I'll start out with the good. The biscuits and gravy were excellent. Super fluffy biscuit with standard gravy. The eggs were solid as well. The harsh brown, however, were burnt and awful. The corned beef looked gross and was only okay. I've made better at home. The service was not great either. After we got our food, our waitress never came back until we were done and she brought the check. We weren't able to get refills on drinks or ask for replacement harsh browns. It was too late by then. Also, while we waited to order, 2 guys walked out because they waited too long to be served. The waitress ran after them outside to convince them to come back in. We wanted to like Hassler's but sadly we did not have a good experience. read more

We came in on a busy Sunday. The place was packed and we took that as a good sign! We weren't in a hurry, and happy to wait. It started to clear out right as we seated ourselves, as directed. Food is low-priced and portions are generous - I sense that's the real attraction here. It's not delicious, though that could be in large part because our food was cold and hard. I would anticipate that Sunday breakfast rushes were a fairly common thing for this place (as noted above, we understood that they were dealing with a rush, and we were happy to wait). Our waitress seemed really unable to coordinate with the other staff or the kitchen (though other parts of the restaurant seemed to be running a bit more smoothly). Our waitress kept apologizing for the rush repeatedly and kept emphasizing how crazy it was and how overwhelmed they were. She apologized so many times it became a little tiring. My food came out first. The waitress came out to check on us not too long after that to ask 'us' how 'our' meals were. I was the only one who had been served, as we pointed out to her - she seemed surprised by this and said she would get the other two meals right away. We continued to wait. In that time they came back by to see if we wanted more coffee. Um, no, but we'd really like our other two meals. They assured us again they were coming. The meals finally arrived and it was very clear they'd been cooked sometime ago and had been sitting and waiting. I was completely done eating, even though I waited to start for some time, hoping their food would come. You could have broken a window with the biscuit. Hard as a rock. Will not be back. Talk about a Diamond. Here's a place to go, sit and enjoy your meal in peace and a very clean environment. Even the kitchen the restrooms and dining area. Spotless. Absolutely white glove clean. Food is excellent. While presentation is more like an old style cafeteria since the like to use "Monkey Dishes" I'm sure that's fo portion control. Guess poodles with pre measured sizes is out of the question. However, great food home town café ambiance. Good people. Wait staff is excellent and cheerfully. They take CASH ONLY, no, credit of debit cards. This is one of the best spots in Norman to eat. Closes at we 2 pm. Great place to meet with friends. BTW, if you order breakfast. I've driven by this place so many times and finally tried it because there was a 30 minute wait at another spot downtown at 10am on a Saturday. Our party of 5 was seated immediately. We ordered the fried green tomatoes for the table, fabulous. They have a full array of offerings including breakfast, salads, sandwiches and even chili. The homemade hash browns were a standout, but everything was fresh and delicious. A couple of us cleaned our plates and the others ate as much as we could. They do only take cash and the service was outstanding. This will be a new regular place for us read more

Well, a year went by and we tried breakfast here again. Seemed clean and the staff was attentive and friendly. Only small issue was the omelets we ordered were obviously a two egg omelet and small. The food is good homestyle food, and the service is fantastic. There are few places anymore where you get coffee refill without asking and tracking down a waitstaff member. We were greeted by two friendly waitresses and seated immediately. Our food was brought out quickly and was great! I revisited during a recent trip back home and this diner is still the best in Norman in my book! It's cleaner than I remember, which is good for most, but takes away from that old diner feel that I love. Service was great and as always, it's cash only. This is my "secret" diner stop where my friends and I love to grab a chicken fried steak breakfast special for $8.99, which is off the menu. The meals are so cheap and so good! The diner is very down home and full of locals, your waitress will make you feel like you're in a small town diner. Hassler's has been on Porter for many years. It has a loyal following and serves the traditional diner favorites for breakfast and lunch. You get a good amount of food for not much money. It's a classic, no frills diner. The problem is the food isn't seasoned well. I got the chicken fried steak lunch, which comes with 2 sides and a roll. First of all, they heat the rolls up in a microwave. This is something I do at home, but I don't expect at a restaurant, even one as cheap and simple as Hassler's. The steak was large, but it was deep fried. It became crispy, but the batter wasn't seasoned. Or, if it was seasoned, it wasn't seasoned well. So, it tasted like a deep fried piece of meat and flour, nothing else. The mashed potatoes were thick, but again, lacked seasoning. The gravy was creamy and great consistency. It needed pepper, but it was probably the best part of the meal. I had okra for my other side, it's also deep fried, but the breading wasn't overly thick, and was seasoned better than the steak breading. The okra and gravy are what saves Hassler's from a 1 star review. I've not been to Hassler's for breakfast, and I will note it's popular for breakfast. So, I might give it a shot. The wait staff and food is great, was there for breakfast this morning and someone called in a phone order, the cook was cursing and yelling and throwing stuff in the kitchen, because he didn't want to make the lunch special at 715. There was a 9 year old in our party who had to hear his fit throwing, very unprofessional! I feel sorry for the girl waiting on us who has to put up with his poor attitude. Been a while since I have been there since I recently moved, but went to breakfast there today and was really good. Home fries were improved, great seasoning and flavor, friend got the Chile relleno omelette and said it was delicious. Excellent seasoning and great tasting meat lover skillet. Always been a good breakfast spot but these recent changes to the menu items take it up a notch. Kudos to the kitchen and management for adjusting menu and flavor profile of your items. Do not go to this restaurant. The only thing worst than the food is the waitress. I found a hair in my food and when we told the waitress her response was "well you ate most of it." My wife had an omelette and I had the heavenly hash with biscuits and gravy. My over easy eggs were cooked perfectly, my wife's omelette was delicious (I had some). They serve the eggs unseasoned so you can do it yourself. Biscuits and gravy....biscuits were warm, tender, a bit flakey....gravy needed some sausage and a little more pepper.
