I was driving by, and the name of the place caught my eye, so I decided to stop in for lunch. Just a nice simple restaurant, nothing fancy. Everybody was friendly, and the place was clean. There is a sign, that there is no Wi-Fi. You actually have to *GASP* talk to each other as if it were back in the 90s. :) You order at the front counter, and then when your food is ready, you walk up to the kitchen window and pick it up. I decided to try the 209 hash. Two eggs, Potatoes, bacon, sautéed mushrooms, sausage, and tomatoes. While the food was good and the over easy eggs were done right, everything was pretty oily. From the potatoes, to the mushrooms, everything. I mean yes, there was bacon and sausage, but there shouldn't have been so much oil on everything else. Again, it did taste good, and it was very rich, but all of the oil took away from the meal, just a little bit. Next time I'm passing by, I would stop again, but this time I would get something else. Terrible service! Go to Cohens instead! We went with a group of 10 to Hash for brunch. We called prior to making the drive to ensure they could accommodate our group size. We were assured there was plenty of room. I went in and got a table set up for us-- the owner came over & told me, that he doesn't like it when guests move tables, he also wanted to know if we were all ordering. I assured him we were all hungry and wanting to eat. We received our order, & within 5 minutes of having finished our food the same man approached our table and asked us to leave because there were other people that needed seats. There were 2 open tables as well as other patrons that were already there when we arrived. When we called we were told it was first come first served. Not last come, first asked to leave. Water issues plague this town of Stoneridge so he switched to paper plates during the pandemic which I understand even though it means more paper waste. More than three years ago, my family accidentally stumbled across Hash while on a country drive, and decided to drop in for lunch... with no expectations, we were blown away at how awesome the food was, and hoped to have an occasion to return. Fast forward to the present- my kids being on winter break from school, we all needed something to do on this Presidents' Day. We had both an opportunity and an excuse, so we hopped in the car and hightailed it up to Stone Ridge for Hash: Redux. Now, I did try to temper my kids' expectations- oftentimes, memory can play tricks on you, and things you thought were great may not actually have been as wonderful as you recall. Also, just being realistic, sometimes quality can vary or falter over time, particularly when it comes to restaurants. Let there be no doubt- the second time around, Hash was even better than we remembered. The restaurant (open from 8 AM-2 PM) is on the small side, but perfectly neat and tidy, appointed in a minimalist but brightly attractive way, and has a seating area that easily accommodates their customers. There were plenty of people ordering take-out at the counter as well, and the line moved briskly. Their menu equally straddles the border between breakfast and lunch- arriving at noon, we walked both sides. Each of us ordered something completely different from our first go-around, to have a unique experience. Our order was ready in less than 10 minutes. My daughter ordered their bacon, egg and cheddar cheese sandwich- it arrived bigger than her head, and every ingredient was fresh and perfectly prepared. It was served with a sizable salad as well. Typically she eats like a bird, but she licked the plate completely clean... and ate half of the side order of roasted potatoes that we ordered for the table, LOL. My son ordered their daily special burger (beef today, lamb on our last visit), which was also topped with bacon (sizzling and crispy) and sharp cheddar, and accompanied by more roasted potatoes and salad. The contents of his plate were annihilated from existence in a matter of minutes. He could not speak while eating it- such was his joy. I ordered their special beef stew- ideal for a cold February day. It was rich and hearty, thicker than a soup, with plentiful chunks of tender meat mixed with root vegetables, and intricately spiced. I added some of those roasted potatoes into it, and that was a genius move. The stew came with garlic toast, which was delicious, and perfect for dipping. Oh, and I also had the greatest glass of root beer (house made) that I have ever tasted. The kids each got a freshly baked cookie for the road- oatmeal raisin for the boy, peanut butter for the girl... I sneaked a crumb of the latter, and it was fantastic. And then, marking the most inspired decision I made all day, we ordered a brisket sandwich to take home for dinner and split between the three of us. THIS was the best bite of all. The brisket at Hash (served on a soft bun and heaping to overflow) beats Terry Jack's in Texas by a WIDE margin. Magically moist, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and spiced to perfection... nothing can match it. All of this for about $65. Honestly... a steal. I spoke to the owner and chef on the way out (Page Moll). He is a walking whirlwind- cooking and running the counter and even moving tables and chairs in the dining room when necessary, and keeping things running like a well-oiled machine. I told him that our only purpose for making a two hour drive from NYC today was to come to his restaurant... and that if 20 hours of driving had been necessary, it would have been worth it. It will not be another three years before we go back to Hash... I've been to 48 states and 16 countries, and I rank my experience in Stone Ridge... both of them, in truth... to be among the best meals I have ever had. GO THERE. Don't miss out. read more

The owner claimed his allergy to a service animal would affect him and said we had to leave the building - not understanding the laws of the ADA. He is an ignorant and incompetent owner. The food and fresh made juices at hash are so good! They don't have traditional table service so you need to pick up your food from the window when they call your number and everything is served on paper plates. The quality of the food is outstanding so this didn't really matter to us. The guy at the front making juice I think is the owner and he's super nice. The seating and decor is minimal with cool art and a funny sign about WiFi at the front counter. On our weekend getaway we went everyday because it was so good. Respect. read more

Food and coffee were spectacular! I got the mushroom skillet and it was delicious. BUT you really need to like mushrooms (which I do) because underneath those fried eggs was a whole lot of mushrooms. They were cooked so well and packed with flavor. I also loved how they fried the eggs with like a parmesan crust. It also came with a bed of greens and oh man was this a big plate of food. My fiance got the Hash 209 and ordered it without mushrooms (he really really hates mushrooms) but unfortunately they left them in. As much as I really loved the food, I hated eating on a paper plate, with plastic utensils, out of a paper coffee cup and using ketchup packets. It was just not what I expected or wanted. I guess I just love a good mug first thing in the morning! And then just throwing all of that paper and plastic away was weird. But my guess is that they are trying to keep staff numbers low due to Covid and are making the changes they need to make. All in all, the food was wonderful, but if you are looking for something on the nicer end with wait service and real plates, I'd skip Hash. Stopped here for breakfast during our Catskills vacation, and what a lovely time we had. We sat outside with our pup and basked in the sun, and enjoyed delicious lemon basil house made soda (5/5) and cold brew. While staying in the area, my friends struggled to find a place to order brunch takeout. Hash was one of the few places that appeared to have a seamless system and answered the phones. We really liked the menu - a lot of variety and mildly elevated brunch options - and we all really liked our respective dishes. My Hash Wrap had a great combo and proportion of egg, cheddar and bacon. My French friend deemed the croissants very, very good. I only wish I had gotten more baked goods! Ok I just had a really surly interaction with the cook, and I take it he's the manager and/or owner from the exchange. I've been here maybe 10 times over the years. Used to love it when it was full service. So anyways I notice they have swapped out real butter for palm oil spread. I go ask if i can a real butter, and I'm told, "what's in your hand is butter", to which I answer, no it is vegetable oil spread. Then he says, "oh first time here? That's how we do things, the real butter was hard and didn't spread". I said I had been there before and can remember when there was table service and real silverware. I then get treated to a nasty speech about how "the water sucks" (?), this restaurant is now "designed to be 100% takeout", and how he should've "never done it any other way". Pros-Great parking, good coffee, no dogs allowed, beautiful botanical prints by exceptional local artist Wendy Hollander! Cons-very expensive considering you have to order and pay at a separate counter. No wait staff. Pick up your food served on paper plates your damn self and bus your own tables. So...food is mostly okay to good at Hash but a little overpriced (compared to Roost about a mile away). Also, Hash uses only throw-away paper for their customers which is profoundly anti-ecological and should only be used for take-out. Really, would it cost that much for Hash to have a dishwasher? And coffee in paper cups when you are eating in-house is a drag. When I sit in a restaurant, I want real silverware, plates, bowls, and mugs. I'm greeted by Miles at the coffee and baked goods counter (also all kinds of lemonades, a large selection of mixed juices and delightful interesting sodas ( lavender walnut?!) and iced teas) who takes my order while ably juggling multiple drink requests. Then I sit in the cafe area and watch while Chef Page (Moll) makes my order in the professional- looking kitchen behind an open counter and asks me questions about my life. Currently I'm loving the kale/quinoa egg white wrap with a perfectly dressed salad and a side of chipotle mayo. It's always fluffy and light but full of flavor. The ingredients taare fresh, mostly locally sourced and organic. I have watched Page put the finishing touches on this creation to ensure the wrap itself is slightly brown, never soggy. This place is great for lunch and brunch. I've been here many times with out of towners and friends as I think it's the best place in the area. I've had many dishes I loved and their specials never disappoint. I love all the juice and drink options as well. The veggie tacos are one of my favorites. Came here because we asked around while visiting and two people recommended this place and wow we were very very impressed. You could tell the food was super fresh and healthy. I had the today's special--sweet potato and beet hash and my boyfriend had the burger and both were delicious! But the best thing here is the coffee. I am NOT a coffee drinker but we both had a long drive ahead of us so we ordered the hot house coffee and WOW we both took a sip and literally were in shock. I regret not buying a pack so much!! I've gotta come clean here and admit that I don't do breakfast or brunch. I know you're judging me hard right now. I just prefer to sleep in. I also far prefer a leisurely dinner with wine over bottomless yucky mimosas and meh breakfast food at noon (by the way, I must know just who truly enjoys those concoctions because I'm not sure I want to know you. Why ruin Champagne with orange juice? I digress...) But Hash! Hash might make a breakfast/brunch believer out of me. Usually places like this barely can cobble together something vegan for breakfast despite there being so many vegan breakfast foods out there that all kinds of people like (and I'm not the biggest fan of fake sausage and those too realistic vegan eggs, but still...) What I love about Hash's nod to vegans is that they use tofu rather than black salt-infested pea protein that is a sulfuric nightmare on a plate and does magical things with it. Specifically, they smother large chunks of tofu + fingerling potatoes and mushrooms with a earthy curry sauce that is so delectable, I just wanted a soup bowl full of it. I admit that it needed salt (not black salt! heh) and I definitely poured on a lot of it. I also prefer a more toothsome tofu. That said, this plate of goodness combined with a lightly dressed salad of frisee and other cute lettuces and lightly toasted bread that I can't quite identify but believe it may have been sourdough made for brunchy goodness yesterday. Add in the perfect oat milk cappuccino and I was questioning my usual "fast until 6 pm" rule. It was a special occasion weekend for me that I was celebrating with my friends and brunch at Hash was a perfect ending to it.
