Usually my go to spot for sushi (Tuna crisp to be exact) a scorpion bowl, chicken yakisoba noodles and pan fried gyoza. It took the waitress about 10 min to come over and when she did we gave her our whole order including drinks,apps, and entree. Food came it was cold....we had to flag the bus boy down to get the waitress, she takes food in the back ( I don't ever give food back because you know), brings the same gyoza back cold (minus the one we tried) and the yakisoba noodles back luke warm (with no steam at all billowing out) because they were supposed to be heated.....then when we asked for the bill sans gyoza they bring only two out again..We are extremely disappointed considering we go there about once a week for years!!! I came here randomly after a doctor appointment nearby because i was starving. And I'm used to eating in providence and Boston so i didn't have high hopes. But omg every detail of my meal was incredible. The bartender was super attentive and despite being incredibly busy, he was super apologetic and stayed on top of things. I'm never in a hurry anyway so i don't mind waiting. He explained a couple things on the menu to me that i didn't quite understand. I ended up deciding on the pork katsu curry. The miso soup i got to start was probably the most flavorful miso soup I've ever tried in my life. This was also my first experience with Japanese curry. And the flavors were so hearty, and earthy. I rarely can finish an entire plate in one sitting, but this dish was just so good i couldn't help myself. Not to mention the prices are well worth the experience. Haruki's sushi is fine but definitely not the best. The maki rolls are too big and loaded with rice and not much flavor. That said, the fish was fresh, the service was friendly, and it's open later than many other sushi places. I'd classify it as a good if you're in the neighborhood restaurant but not good enough to go out of your way. read more

I've been here so many times that I lost count. Basically, this is the place to go for great sushi and authentic Japanese food. I always have some sushi and finish off with cold noddles. I've always liked it here. It's not amazing Japanese food nor is the sushi extraordinary but it's good enough for RI. The service is always good. For the food that doesn't come out so great, there's enough good food to make up for it...if that makes any sense. It's pretty casual inside the restaurant. I'd say it's a good place to grab some drinks at the bar along with a few apps. I was disappointed with the uní here but then again I've been disappointed with uní everywhere in RI. We have been going to Haruki for years now and decided to take a trip from the East Bay over to Cranston for some sushi this week. We were sorely disappointed. This place has gone downhill. The quality isn't anywhere close to what it once was. The Nigiri portions are smaller and the two special rolls we ordered were seriously lacking in flavor. This was our go-to for good, consistent sushi, but our previous two experiences have been pretty bad. At $80 a pop for two people (without drinks) I expect better. We have crossed Haruki off of our list. I think we can find a better option. read more

We have been loyal customers of Haruki for 17+ years and we still love it! Although things have changed (new staff, smaller portions, etc) the quality of their food has not. The best thing about this restaurant is that although they're known for their sushi, they have a variety of other options for people who dislike seafood. Service is quick and the food comes out in a timely manner. Reservations are not necessarily, unless it is a Friday night. Such a good place! Highly recommended it!! read more

We have been going here for years. That in itself is a positive review... foot surgery dictated use of a kneewalker. Access was fine and staff was more than accommodating and caring regarding my situation. We started with shrimp nam chow and miso soup. For our main dish we each had a serving of Sesame Tuna.. the tuna is seared with a coating of sesame seeds. It comes with greens and fresh sliced tomatoes drizzled with their house ginger dressing.. it's an appetizer on menu but plenty big enough to be a main course. We complemented the meal with a hot house saki.. yum. (I just ate dinner at home and I'm starting to crave Haruki!! We have had all kinds of sushi here too. Haruki holds so many wonderful memories for me. It's been my go-to for years with friends and family. The food is always delicious, the staff are some of the nicest people. They would ask how I am and I would update them on how things have been. They are like a family to me. I left for college a few years ago. After I graduated I came back to Rhode Island, they saw me and instantly put together my "usual" and congratulated me on my graduation. I almost teared up! I love their house Rolls, especially the 'Spicy Joe' roll and their Pork Gyoza is also something I would recommend. This is my absolute favorite place to go. read more

I've never had a bad meal here. Wonderful, attentive service. A variety of sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and other options for those that think all Japanese food consists raw fish. Great date place, romantic night out or take out. Great variety of Japanese beers, along with the usual types and sake's, as well as original martinis. I'd recommend them to anyone. I frequent the haruki express shop on Thayer a lot and have yet to be disappointed with their sushi. The restaurant itself is even better. We arrived pretty much as soon as it opened on a Friday, just in time for lunch hr; at this point there wasn't too much people, but it wasn't completely dead either. It's really a good idea to come with a few group of friends/family, that way each person can order something they want and everyone can just pick and choose what they like from each plate. I find that it's a good way to try a variety of sushi in one sitting and this way you can determine which rolls you like best and which rolls to avoid next time. If I'm dining alone and I'm pretty much starving I normally order the 6 piece rolls and one of the special rolls. I always automatically skip through to the special rolls when browsing through the menu in any sushi place, they often tend to be the chunkier rolls that fill you right up. My younger sister, was a first-time sushi eater (which I should also should add is quite choosy w/ her eating prefs), we suggested she go for the California roll. Needless to say we converted her. (Though we should have warned her about the green ball of wasabi on her plate, she thought it was avocado and immediately chowed down on it with much displeasure. lol...) So our table had an order of the Spider Shimp which came w/ 8-10 rolls, delicious-- I always order this @ the express shop but here it's even better, the Superman roll was one of the raw rolls, who would've thought that raw fish doesn't actually taste like raw fish. Would order again. With that roll I ordered a side of the piano which was pretty light tasting. As far as service goes, I would have to say our waitress was nice, didn't pester us w/ a million questions and did her job well. Haruki's has my approval, I will have to try Haruki's East next and see how that compares. ps: They have the cutest kissing fish in the waiting area, right where you walk in, I advise anyone to take a look. :) read more

I have dined here for many years. The BEST SUSHI IN RHODE ISLAND! The rest of the menu is overpriced though. The green tea fried ice cream is a must to end your night. Will be going here tonight for the spider shrimp roll and manhattan, both my faves! There is also a back room for bigger parties of about 10. What makes the common Sushi restaurant stand out among it's peers is the freshnes of the fish, the presentation, the service and my always important category the cleanliness. Haruki does better than average in all these categories. The fist is always fresh and I have always liked sitting at the Sushi bar. The chef's are inviting but not over bearing. I stopped by this place to meet up with my old friend from back home(NC) who was having a show at the hotel nearby. First I noticed that the XXL menu contrary to the size of this place. Might as well, call it a dictionary. Maybe because of that, it took a while to get sashimi deluxe despite of the place wasn't that busy. (I learned that large menu often slow down and hinder the kitchen performance from "Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmare"). Fish were fresh indeed and size of slice wasn't so generous(thin). But having seen diabolical rip off by Sakura Tokyo in Worcester, Haruki's pricing($18 for sashimi deluxe) is absolutely fair. So there's no complain there. Having experienced quite high end sushi joint such as Fugakyu, it is quite hard to be forgiving and fair. And I honestly would like to give 3 stars. But considering it's located somewhat 'burb-ish entity where is not so international. I think I should give one more star for them keeping good balance of attracting both adventurous audience and stubbornly conservative audience. read more

My. Daughter and I ran in for sushi before an appt. We sat at the sushi bar. The fish is fresh, well presented, and consistent everytime. The best thing is it's the only place in RI in an find bluefin tuna. It is amazing everytime. I also like the subtle spiciness to their spicy maki roll and not over do it with spicy mayo. This is a decent sushi restaurant. They have a wide variety of sushi and sashimi selections that they offer. Each time that we have gone for dinner, we were seated in a reasonably timely manner and greeted with smiles. We like to order the special sushi rolls. If you order six or more, they put them on a huge sushi boat. The kids always get a kick out of that as well as all the people in your party. Though the seafood appears to be fresh and the presentation is excellent. Each time I eat there, I leave wanting. I'm not sure why. We love sushi and frequent another restaurant in Warwick which always satisfies, that must be why. That said, many really enjoy this restaurant and I have not had a bad experience. Though I'm a raw sushi kind of guy, I do highly recommend the scallop roll. It's cooked, but really is fantastic :) read more

This is my fave Japanese restaurant. Actually, I only eat Japanese food here! The sesame ginger dressing they make is delicious. Menu options are abundant and are made with great presentation. Haruki's was a bit of a letdown for us. Nothing was really bad or poor in service - quite adequate, in fact - but we were hoping for Japanese cuisine that would be a step above the host of other sushi or Korean-Japanese typically found. Haruki's appetizers probably best approached this ideal: we devoured 2 orders of a terrific fried soft-shell crab, crispy-hot and delicious; and similarly for their panko-fried oysters katsu, plump and juicy interior, surrounded by a nicely friable batter. The shrimp and vegetable tempura, however, was merely adequate, fortunately not greasy or heavy, but nothing eye-opening either. Moving on to main entrees, one of our party had the sushi and teriyaki salmon bento box dinner - which again was rather ordinary, adequate but unremarkable. The rest of our party shared two sushi platters - the Heaven and the Paradise - which arrived table side on impressive boats, but again, while the sushi and sashimi were fresh, we didn't find them to be that special cut above we were hoping for. So all in all, a decent Japanese and sushi house, but nothing to go out of your way for, save for some very good appetizers (if you choose well). read more
