Fantastic dinner at Harry's. I was apprehensive to eat here at first because it appears to be a slightly divey bar that happens to serve food. But I was wrong. The food was outstanding. I enjoyed a very generous portion of Steak over salad. Super tender with really good marinade. Meatballs were top notch in red sauce. Chicken was also good. Service was quick and friendly. As someone who does not go to sports bars often, this felt like a solid sports bar. It was very spacious, with both a section of seats at and near the bar and an upper level of tables as well. We went on a Saturday afternoon, and several different games were being played on the many giant TVs on the walls (3 different college football games, a soccer game, and Cartoon Network). The highlight here was the food. It was reasonably priced, not too greasy, and delicious. Special shoutout to the glazed Brussels sprouts (sweet, crispy, and soft on the inside) and the chicken tenders tower (crispy, tender, and a fun presentation). A lowlight here was how our drinks kept almost falling off the table. It was nice that the tables were smooth instead of sticky, but we soon learned that all drinks should be kept on tables that weren't slanted at all, since they kept slipping towards the edge. read more

Harry's might be my new go to spot for a casual classic bar! Came here to watch a redsox game on a Tuesday night and the atmosphere was lively but not too packed. Service was fantastic! Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. We ordered the chicken tender tower and split it between 3 people which was more than enough - the tenders were so crispy, loved the fries and large quantitiy, dips were all fantatstic, and loved the fun presentation. In our mind's we were headed to Buff's but we read a friends Yelp and they said try Harry's so we pivoted. On street parking in a slightly busy area. All the staff are young but super inviting and friendly. This place is more spacious and brighter (natural light from large windows) than dive bar but has a dive bar vibe with dark wood, large bar and walls decked with beer signs. Our waitress was new and said that in her onto which was great to do. She did a great job! Extensive menu. Our family settled for a little sharing to sample. Buffalo wings, Gouda mac and cheese and Irish nachos. Good portions. The gouda mac and cheese was delicious! All the gooey cheese was underneath and each bite was warm/cheesy. I had a terrible experience. I was visiting my friend and wanted to grab a couple drinks and play pool as my friend who recently moved into the area said that the vibes were good along with the food. I was very excited to go to a chill bar however, when we showed up (while being completely sober) I was denied and was not clear of a reason. I am not sure if it was my naturally high pitched voice, that I had to use my passport, or if we were heard down the street chatting and laughing while walking over. The bouncer had taken 2 of my friend's IDs and as I handed him my passport he had asked how many drinks I have had. After telling him that I haven't had any, he continued to tell me that I was not going to let me in. I felt offended as there was no clear or obvious reason as of why I was being denied. Overall, if you plan on going with your friends I suggest you act like robots with no personality or else you won't get let in. read more

I like this place for the beer selection they have but I'm not a huge fan of the food. I ordered the nachos which only had cheese on the top layer and nothing underneath. They were also more like pita chips and not tortilla chips. The prices on the menu were also quite different than what we were charged. It said is was $12 for nachos but we were charged $14.50. OMG! What a fabulous brunch! We over ordered but were happy with everything we ate. Had the scrambled eggs, which came with scallions in it - love that! Also had the Cinnamon Roll French toast - devine! The BLT Avocado toast was fabulous! We only ate half of what we ordered but enjoyed it the next day. I really like this place. It always seems friendly and comfortable with solid food and beer choices. My only complaint is the last few times the music--at least in their upper level where the pool table is--was way too loud. Like, I can't wait to get out of here loud. I have to yell at my friend loud. In their defense, I didn't ask anyone if the could turn it down. As an older guy, I felt like maybe I've just aged out of some places that like it loud. Cons: -Loud music, even in the morning -Kind of dark -- Reese's Puffs Cereal Donut ($3.00) Yeast donut with a heavy sugar glaze, chocolate drizzle, and Reese's Puffs. The donut itself was warm, light and fluffy, which I appreciated! Unfortunately the toppings were overwhelmingly sweet--much more than a typical glazed donut. Harry's has become a great place to just hang out with friends. They have never been too busy for us to fit in. The food is typical bar food. Think comfort food in large portions. The pretzels with beer cheese is my favorite dish. I do not enjoy the mac-n-cheese; it's not bad just average. There is a single pool table that requires quarters. I suppose it makes sense to charge during peak hours when there are several groups wanting to play. However, when no one is on the table, it would make more sense to allow a couple non-pool sharks to play for free rather than leave the table taking up space. Overall, it's a decent spot that's becoming familiar, but it won't be on my list of places to recommend to visitors. read more

Second time stopping by on a Sun afternoon. We had the same bartender and he's awesome, makes a great Bloody Mary which is a deal at $8. I'd had drink envy before and there was no way I was skipping the Bloody today. We split the fried chicken sandwich and while the fries were hot, the ciabatta bread was excellent and we loved the siracha basil aioli, the actual chicken felt prefab and it barely seemed fried. I've lived in Brighton, MA almost my entire adult life and went to grade school, high school and college here and justifiably have been to almost every bar joint in the area. I am also a Mom to an 11 year old boy. I have only ever been to Harry's with a group of friends for drinks or apps before an event and have always had a decent time. However, if you are thinking of going with you and just your child, think about doing that somewhere else. It was somewhat busy with larger groups and couples drinking. We walked over the an empty table as there were no indications that patrons needed to wit to be seated. We then waited for over 10 minutes and watched the waitress bring items TO THE NEXT TABLE several times without even acknowledging that we had arrived or that someone would be over. I told my son to hold tight as they may just be busy, but sure enough, we continued to be ignored. My son then said, "maybe it's because it's just you and me?" To that I said: It should not make a difference. We have rarely felt welcomed into others lives as a pair so it's hard to also feel that way when we are simply trying to get a bite to eat. If you are understaffed, find a way to make it work or close off a section to allow yourselves to not be overwhelmed. Get a system going where waters are brought to the table so the patrons know someone will be right over. Hell, even saying "we're a little busy but we'll be right over is better than than nothing. But at the very least, acknowledge your guests so they feel they've been seen and will be served. Don't ignore them with the hopes that they will leave. I worked the service industry for years and I know the tricks but I also know some secrets too. My son and I ultimately left though we were very hungry when we arrived. We left not in the slightest bit hungry but extremely disappointed. We won't be visiting anymore but I hope that you can implement some changes to make room for those of us that only have two people in our party. read more

This is and has been a gem of Brighton. It's that bar you look for when are visiting Boston or to make your default. I ordered Nachos Just the right amount of heat from the jalapeno's. The dish could improve with proper cheese distribution. The beer was cold and delicious. There is an opportunity in cleaning practices. It would help them stand out from the other bars in the area. Ordered a burger and fried chicken sandwich for pickup. Food was ready on time, and I was waiting at the bar when they came out. Less than 5 minute walk to get home and eat. Servings were pretty big for the price. Burger was fine, though nothing special. Huge beef patty, good veggies. Strangely unevenly cooked, one side had a nice char and grill lines, the other barely had any (cooked medium), and one corner was very charred. Bun was toasted dark, but not quite burned, fine with me. Staff fries taste like lots of lowreys seasoning salt dumped on decent fries. Regular fries were good..slightly crispy, tasted pretty fresh. Chicken sandwich looked ok, but after eating about half my wife pulled out a pretty large piece of what appears to be wax paper from the sandwich (pictured). It was clearly fried onto the chicken. Probably not a health concerns as it was cooked with the chicken, but still pretty gross. Chicken wasn't crispy, and that shouldn't be due to the less than 5 minute walk home, but otherwise tasted fine until the wax paper discovery. For the price I wish the burger was better, but at least it was big. Staff fries could definitely do with less seasoning salt, it gets pretty intense when it's caked on. Chefs need to know to be careful to take wax paper off of the meat before breading and frying. Had to knock off a few points for that. read more

Harry's is a solid pub/bar food place. I've had plenty of their apps/entrees over time including their super gluttonous cheesy waffle fries. All were good and fine but I thought it was nothing to go out of your way of unless you're in the area. BUT Then I tried out their brunch and damn they have a great Bloody Mary (called a bloody harry). Fresh tasting tomato mix with olive, cornichon and pepperoncini, really made it a boozy salad in a glass. The way it always ought to be. I was looking for a place to have a burger and noticed that Harry has burgers in their brunch menu so we decided to give it a try. I'm thinking that the kitchen slaughters the mooo. It took around half an hour for burgers to come out. It came out well done, dry instead of medium. Because it took so long, I didn't file a complaint to get another one and just ate a dry burger. I lived above this bar for 2 years and it became my standard "go to" with great specials that include $0.40 wing night, $5 cheeseburgers (with a purchase of a drink), and $2 tacos (to name a few). It's a great place to relax after work (or school in my case) and watch a game on their projector above the bar or one of there several tvs. For the wing nights, we would often get large groups (between 5-12) in there and the staff didn't mind us pulling together several tables to accommodate our party. They had several flavors (hot, medium, mild, bbq, mango-habanero, jerk, teriyaki, Guatemalan insanity pepper, golden bbq, sweet chili, grilled Memphis or grilled old bay) and while I had a chance to try them all over time, my favorites were hot and grilled old bay. We made SO MANY bone-yards and enjoyed every second of it! The cheeseburgers were really good, even when they were on special they included fries. At $5! What a steal! I realized that Boston has really good food specials since they can't have drink specials and that is one thing I miss after getting back to CA. They change their menu every so often, but keep the staples (aka the specials) pretty much the same. The service is usually good, but I also found that their wait staff had a tendency to have a healthy turn over. This is definitely a neighborhood bar. The atmosphere is warm, and if you came here as often as I did, they stopped carding me because they recognized me. (That's never happened to me before, and I gotta say, that was pretty cool!) There is also visitor parking close to the bar. It's definitely not easy to come by, but at least it's available! This was the worst service I have ever had. The waitress with the red hair+tattoos was literally miserable and acted like we were an inconvenience to her the whole time. Did not have utensils or menus to start, finally our friend went up to the hostess station and just grabbed the menus himself. We waited 20 minutes for our water which she forgot about, then waited another 40 minutes for our food. She did not apologize or acknowledge us at all. I kept trying to stay positive and maybe she was just having an off day but she was so rude and the one time she actually came to check in on us she said "*huge sigh* are you guys good now?? Did I forget anything else?" The bun on my breakfast burger was hard as rocks. And everyone got their food except for one of our friends where they forgot her order and when she finally got it - it was cold. Never refilled any of our coffees or water. Took another 20 minutes to get our bill and pay. When we did get our bill, there was an extra charge for the breakfast potatoes that was supposed to come included with the omelette. Classic spot in the post-Allston, pre-BC no mans land in Brighton. Yeah you seat yourself, yeah the tables are sticky - but spots like Harry's are becoming harder and harder to find nowadays. Have some patience, in the summer enjoy a beer with the windows open and any NFL game you want when it's just snowed a foot in December. Despite some comments, I've never had a bad meal here and the beer selection on draft is evolving. When ordering food, make sure you spend the extra $1 for sweet potato fries or waffles. Very low key spot over on Comm Ave. Awesome to grab a round or few of pool with excellent vibes. More notably is the chef, I believe his name was Joel. Not a good experience at Harry's bar. Bad service, worse food I went for Sunday brunch with my friends and was initially excited to not have to wait for a table. However I should have taken the empty restaurant as a sign. Friends each ordered omelets with different fixings, I chose the breakfast burger. I was amazed that our waiter did not need to write down our order due to the amount of items in each omelet. I complimented his memory. Well my friend's omelets arrived and our waiter comes to tell me he forgot my order and never put it in. I repeated that I ordered the breakfast burger. By the time my friends finished eating it still had not arrived. The manager came over and stated "oh your meal is late so we'll take it off the bill" another 10 minutes later and my meal arrived- though it wasn't what I ordered. At that point my friends had been done for a while and we needed to leave so i took a few bites and left. I'm glad i only ate a few bites as I had a severe stomach ache for the rest of the evening from the undercooked sandwich they did serve me. do not go here. Great local bar! On the Brighton/Allston line, this bar makes a convenient stop for all of the neighboring apartment buildings, including my own. (Update: We live in Medford but miss this local watering hole!) I walk to this bar in five mins... And five mins later am seated at a table with a drink menu in hand. Great options; consistent drink specials (I swear these are seasonal but can you argue with a beer that cost $4 which isn't bud light?). Brunch is a must here as it fills you up for the rest of your day. The Bloody Harry is my favorite here. Irish coffees do the trick too. Feeling adventurous? Try the donut of the day! I did and didn't regret it. My friends and I like to watch football here on Sunday's. I'd like to keep this place a secret so I can keep my favorite table option open...
