This was my first time at this Harris Teeter but once again I am satisfied with the customer service and the prices. They have the best deals, they double coupons and they have the cheapest seafood. I've been to other HT stores in Virginia and they were always a wonderful store as well as the best choice among other neighborhood grocers. There has been a long period of time since I went into a HT; judging from this visit it will be my last time in this location. With plans to purchase fresh produce, I remembered my past experiences and decided that Harris Teeter would be the best choice. Things change and sometimes not for the better. Not only were the options scarce, but the condition of the options were in terrible shape. Rotting fruits and vegetables, nearly empty containers. To top off that tragedy the associate working in that department looked around and walked off without removing the rotting produce. If you are looking to fill your compost bin, they have an abundance of choices for you. read more

I dont frequent this location and I will never return. 7am on a weekday my husband and I arrived at the store for a few basket items. 15 mins later we were done shopping and proceeded to self check out because ALL of the cashier check out lines were closed. Another customer informed is that self check out was not working so he, my husband and a few other customer walked around to find a cashier. Employees were everywhere stocking shelves but none willing to check us out. Several minutes later my husband encounters cashier Sharon, he ask her is self check out available or a lane opening soon as week need to go to work. Her response "No! Im open". Her action, snatches the basket from his hands and walks to the 3rd lane. she snatched the basket so abruptly his keys fell from his hands and shocked we both stare at each other. Once we get to the lane my husband asked if she was ok . no response. Another customer is now behind us and let us know that "this is how they treat you around here." Sharon finally acknowledges me with the word "Pay." I let her know that i had already swiped and she needed to press something for the transaction to continue. The encounter ended with her saying "You saved nothing" and I filing a complaint once i got to work. The store had the groceries i needed but the customer service is horrible so I wont be returning. read more

This is my local grocery store and I love everything about it. The people that work there are usually very friendly and helpful as well as the other people that shop there! I usually find really good fresh fruits, the bakery isn't as elaborate as some other grocery stores but what they have is good. I enjoy the deli and the meats are great. The hot food area is fantastic and the pizza here is better than some of the major chains! I never have to wait super long to get checked out and not once have I walked away feeling like they didn't have just want I needed to cook what I wanted. The parking lot is typical as it's part of a strip ball but it's not bad. And if I'm in a rush I know I can use the fast lane where I just order my groceries online and pull up to get them right outside of the store. I haven't tried their pharmacy yet but people seem to be pleased with it. Overall it's my grocery store and I only go somewhere else if I just happen to be near it and need something. So happy HT had added a location in Canton. I was completely fed up with the lack of service, incorrect register prices, ghetto service and lack of fresh food at Safeway (feel free to go read my review of them.) We here in Canton deserved a gleeful shopping experience and so far HT has delivered. This store isn't as large as their other B'more store, there's no second story, so those of you use to going to the Fed Hill location may be missing a few items in your shopping list. But have no fear, I've noticed that their selection has grown each time I've been in here. For example, their vegan frozen food selection is on an end cap and was pretty bare the first two times, but this last time they had it stocked! What's even better, I'm use to buying something in a family pack at Safeway, but they only have it here in the regular size (veggie sausages) so I mentioned it to the cashier (because she seemed genuinely interested in my answer when she asked me, "did you find everything you're looking for?) and the cashier said that they will specially order it for me and call me when it's in. Ummm, really? I expect that service at J Crew or Nordys, but a grocery store? I'm in. See you soon. read more

First time here at the Canton HT. I had tried the market in Locust Point and was won over by the selection, so I suggested to my husband that we go shopping here, since we were in the area for some errands anyway, and he agreed. I'm really glad that he did. We had a grand time in here. Lots of choices, free samples everywhere, and the market was SUPER clean. I think we could have eaten off of the floor, it was that sparkly and shiny. Very impressed. It took us a long time to go through there because this store is huge. I'm thrilled with the selection here - there's all kinds of specialty goods, and I'm pleased to see that they have reasonably priced generic items (some of which I've tried since, and let me tell you, these generics are right on par with the name brands - some of them are even better). I was thrilled at the seafood counter. Everything was VERY fresh and clean. I ordered up some of my favorite mahi-mahi for a shocking 5 dollars a pound. Say WHAT??!!!??? I LOVED the lights coming on in the frozen section. That was worth the trip all by itself. (Hey, what can I say, I'm weird.) So by the end of the trip, everything came out to a whopping.... 97 dollars. My mouth was on the floor. We have never gotten out of any supermarket (Giant included) for under 100 dollars for the week. And we had a basket FULL of groceries. I mean FULL. Definitely get the VIC card. It's worth the savings you'll get. I think we saved 40 bucks on this last shopping trip alone. The only thing that I think I'd ask for here is a little bit of improvement in the produce section. It's not bad, but I've seen some fresher items at the Giant, sometimes. Maybe we just hit it on a bad night. Either way, we'll be back. So happy Harris Teeter opened in Canton. I've been to this new location several times since it has opened. Produce has consistently been delicious and fresh with an incredible variety to choose from. The meats and fish have been tasty and tender. I have particularly enjoyed the salmon. The service is top notch. They were serving free samples of their mango salsa, I tried some and then wanted to buy some. I went looking for the salsa, but couldn't find any. The manager noticed that I was looking for something, asked, and then made it his mission to find me some. I continued shopping and about five minutes later he came up to me (in a completely new section) to let me know that they had sold out. Bummed, but appreciative that he looked, I said "thank you." He responded, "but I'm not done...I grabbed you a container and put what we have from the samples... It's on us!" They gave me a free tub. So nice. And it is not only one isolated event. Every cashier has been kind and courteous, every time, without fail. I really appreciate that from Harris Teeter. Once, an employee who was stocking stopped what he was doing to help me find 3 separate items throughout the store off of their meal deal, and let me even exchange one type of roll on the deal for another type. Another time, the cashier noticed me that if I spend a few more dollars I would be able to get 10 dollars off my total with the promotion they were having... I went back to get a papaya and some gum... Now, we regularly buy papaya, something we would not have tried otherwise. Some people are posting that Harris Teeter is much more expensive than Safeway. I have not found this at all, I have a VIC card and shop their deals and I ALWAYS spend less than what I spent at Safeway. **UPDATE** So just wanted to add; I forgot a bag of my groceries today. I called up Harris Teeter. They we're extremely helpful- replaced the items that I forgot, gathered the items for me, and met me outside... never even had to leave my car! I'm a Baltimorean. I believe in walking to your local butcher or farmers market and buying your produce and fresh cuts of meat. Harris Teeter is supposed to fill that gap by providing fresh products and options, since most of those small merchants are getting run out of business, with the current state of the economy. However, when I stepped into Harris Teeter I felt underwhelmed by their lack of gluten free products and their ability to organize their store. Yeah.. it looks clean and organized but the pricing for the product/quality - well that was just A-OK to me. Plus I felt a little fed-up by the time I left the store because not one person knew how to say excuse me. I guess manners go out the window when you have to drop half of your paycheck on your groceries. Guess I'll have to continue to do my grocery shopping elsewhere. read more

Would rate store much higher, but I dread going to Deli section not because of quality of meats, but because how long it will take. Average person takes 10+ minutes to be processed. Ok, I'd like to start off saying I'm a huge Safeway fan for 2 reasons: 1. The app - You can use coupons, plus the app coupons, plus the Safeway Card savings - Every trip, I'm saving at least 50%. 2. The Location - I live in Canton, and it's close So, with that being said, I had heard that Harris Teeter was expensive, but I got a coupon in the mail ($10 off $50) and decided to check it out. I mean, it's pretty easy to spend $50 at the grocery store...and I am a sucker for coupons. Service: Tons of free samples! Produce, sushi, hummus, breads, etc. The customer service is awesome here. Everyone is willing to help, people are super friendly! (unlike the Safeway) and they are always willing to help! I had one experience where I was buying 2 K-cups for $7.99 each. When I got home I noticed that one rang up at $7.99, and the other was $11.95. I brought it back with my reciept, and the lady at customer service was so funny, she told me that I got them. That there was a scan error, and because of that (I guess the original price was $9.99, and she wasn't sure where $11.95 came from) so I got to keep the item, and she gave me $11.95 in cash! If this was a Safeway issue, they 1. wouldn't have given it to me for free, and 2. would have given me a hard time. Cleanliness: Very clean! Their produce offers WAY more than the Safeway. The store also is very modern. The freezer section lights up as you walk by. If you're the only one in the aisle, as you walk down, you totally feel like a celebrity on the cat walk with all the lights. haha. TIP: SIGN UP FOR THE E-MAILS WHEN YOU GET YOUR VIC CARD. You'll get an email with your VIC coupons once a week, which will have a REALLY good deal or 6. For instance, loaded to my VIC card for the week was .67 cent eggs, .97 cent 4 lb bag of Domino Sugar, and .97 cent 6-pack of coca-cola bottled soda. If the store is out of it, you can still get a rain-check for this item. I'd highly recommend this store. read more

I'm torn between reviewing this HT as an individual version of a company and reviewing this in comparison to other markets. This confusion comes from the fact that I hadn't had a chance to visit the one near Locust Point before so this was my first HT experience. When I visited a few days after the grand opening, I couldn't turn an aisle without encountering a friendly, smiling staff member. Fast forward to a few months later, the smiling faces are still present but there are not as many around. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your familiarity with the store and since this is intended to be a neighborhood establishment for the residents of Canton, it's acceptable. It can be difficult to find help at the Customer Service desk. The times I've needed assistance, a floor attendance has always had to locate someone. While there appears to be a great variety of products for the ones they do have, I would think such a market as HT would have more vegan/vegetarian products, especially considering the costs of all their products. You would think if you can charge $8 for some quinoa, you can afford to have more vegan products in stock. I suggest signing up for the HT card and email list so you can receive the latest sales and coupon offers. You can find great offers that can rival any market, ritzy or sketchy. read more

I love Harris Teeter, but this store is not like the one at home. It is fairly clean inside but not immaculate like the one I frequent in Virginia Beach. The selection of products is as good as any Harris Teeter but be warned ... the fresh cut up produce is often underripe or fermented. if you have the convenience of being able to prep the fruit yourself, I would opt for that. Unfortunately, I haven't had that convenience on my trips to Baltimore having stayed in hotels without kitchen accommodations. True to their word, they not only refunded me what was owed but doubled it. I had forgotten about this policy when I took the fruit back and when the woman behind the counter began counting out the change, I told her that she was giving me too much money. Her response implied that I was making false claims but it was their policy anyway. She back peddled a bit immediately afterward. The assortment of products (organic, high quality, etc.) brings me back despite the few things that could be better. There is a Starbucks located inside; however, the two young ladies that are frequently working don't have the best attitudes. Take your coffee business next door to the Starbucks located in Target a couple doors down. They are very friendly there. read more

Love this store! No matter which one l visit (this one was in Canton Crossing) l have a good experience. Clean store, fresh produce, friendly checkers to assist you, it couldn't be any better. I found the items l was looking for and with double coupons up to 99 cents, I scored some great deals. A word of caution: l had two coupon for 75 cents off of an item and when l purchased two of them to use my coupon on each, the second coupon would not scan. The checker requested the manager and when they came (very pleasant, mind you) to the register, they informed me that l could only use that particular coupon one time per shopping transaction. No big deal as l will use it during another shopping trip to Harris Teeter. In spite of that, checkout was painless. I will add this location to my future store shopping list. read more

What a nice, clean, mixed-price, well-stocked city grocery store! I really liked the prepared food options. The only other Harris Teeter I had visited was in Norfolk, VA where they had an amazing wine selection, but thanks to Maryland's backwater liquor laws, thats a no-go here. We joined the VIC program at the store, and got amazing deals on beautiful steaks from the butchers, and discounts on almost everything we found! AMAZING ice cream selection, and though i can't eat that, I had fun looking at all the new flavors and brands. The produce area is awesome, and the baked goods looked divine. read more

Friendly and helpful staff most of the time. Deals are really good, especially with the e-Vic coupons. Prices are really good on some things and a bit more than you'd normally pay on others, but the quality is definitely there. Produce always looks good. If you're concerned about gluten free: they only have frozen sandwich bread, their selection of foods seems good but it's all mixed into the regular aisles Parking is a breeze and everything is well stocked in the store. read more

I don't know about y'all but I love me a free sample! They have samples in all the fresh departments. They do have lots and lots of sales weekly but the prices are normal to Walmart. My cashier today name was Tuesday she was very nice and made sure she reminded me on my savings. This market is not my 1st choice because of pricing but I love to come here because they have items that a lot of other markets don't carry. The employees in the meat department are always delightful and helpful on recipes. My daughter love the mini carts for children. I've just left Harris Teeter and it took me longer to checkout than it did to shop for 2 weeks worth of groceries. For some reason this store thinks having 2 people direct people to open lanes speeds up checkout. The "managers" with ear pieces send you to a line then stand there and wait, instead of jumping on a bagging station and getting people out of the store. I guess this is a senior management position, but to a customer is looks counterproductive. After waiting for 30 minutes to checkout bc I was placed in a line with 50 year old cashier who did not receive any bagging assistance, I finally reached a register. I helped the cashier bag bc right before it was our turn to checkout, the bagger disappeared. My wife paid and I had 4 or 5 bags worth of product left to bag. The cashier, instead of turning and helping me finish STARTED RINGING UP THE NEXT CUSTOMER AND SLIDING THEIR STUFF ON TOP OF MINE! I help you by bagging and the cashier treats me like this? Someone needs to get a grip on this location before more customers start looking else where to spend their money. read more

Clean and bright. Slightly more expensive than Safeway, but for better quality produce and meat. (It's kind of like the Walmart vs. Target trade off). The staff is friendly and helpful, parking is plentiful, and it's easily accessible from Boston St. A word of caution: Don't try to park in between Michaels and HT or between Target and HT and expect to get your groceries to the car. The carts are shut off right at the corner of Michaels. While it is fun to see the perplexed looks on shoppers' faces, it's a real inconveniece for traffic that is stopped while people try to load all purchases onto their arms and abandon the cart in the street. read more

How do you give a grocery store 5 stars.... well I am glad you asked. 1) Quality and Branding - Harris Teeter is a brand known for quality and expectation that typically would give it a four start rating in my book. This location is clean and has a great local produce section.... love some local produce as PA, MD, and VA all have some great farms. 2) Prices/Specials - HT has some great specials for their club members but beyond that the prices are typically very fair... 1.99 for boneless chicken breast... where else? They also take competitor coupons. $5 off of meat because I had a coupon from target... heck yes! 3) Club membership - yes this club/shoppers card is very helpful I love this place. The pizza was great, soups are good, meat department clean and fresh.... highly recommend this location. read more

This store is awful and is getting worse everyday. The produce is often wilted or on the cusp of spoiling. Over the last 2 months, I bought meat and when I got home to unwrap it, it smelled so awful and rotten. The employees who are packing online orders are rude and nasty. One woman actually smacked a pack of lunch meat that I pre-ordered online out of my hand and said, "These are for online orders only". I showed her the order on my phone, and she said if I didn't like it, I could take it up with customer service. The cashiers look miserable. The only good thing about this store and the employees who work at the deli counter, the employees who bring in the carts from the parking, and the pharmacy staff. This was my 1st visit to the Harris Teeter near Federal Hill, Baltimore. A beautiful setting, lighting, clean, etc. However, the Choice Filet Mignkn's I purchased (and grilled successfully) were as good as the finest steaks I've ever tasted (restaurants included). My favorite grocery store to go to ! Best prices for organic foods around and the quality of produces is top notch. Although it may be more pricey than safeway, for unique foods and quality it is the best. The staff is SO friendly and willing to help you find anything you need. Whenever I'm just walking around they'll come up to me and ask if I need help finding anything. Plenty of samples of produce and meat around. Just love this place! If i could give this store a zero i would the only thing about this store is they are SOMEWHAT well stocked. I've been here on several occasions all horrible. My first complaint is their online shopping never ever ever do their online shopping i pick up for my neighbor when she needs it and something is always wrong every time either they forget something or they over charge for something of course but i also do shopping on my own so i sometime pick up inside after shopping well one of my times i grocery shopped and the experience inside was also horrible You can hardly get through the aisles because they have boxes of things that should be on the shelf just laying on the floor in the aisles, i walked past a young lady that worked there named Amanda she was on her phone i said excuse me do you work here she looked at me and said yeah why so i told her i was looking for something and she said she didn't know where the item was that i could go and ask customer service (i bet if she get off the phone long enough she would know ) then continued to text. The dairy section was and absolute mess there was NOTHING in its place obviously they don't have people keeping up during the day because things were everywhere in the refrigerator they were low and milk and the frozen section was the same things just thrown all over the place. I get over to the meat section and they were pretty stocked but there were of course boxes of things that needed to be stocked everywhere. The shelves are full with dust like they aren't wiped ever and it's just dirty. I finally am ready to check out and the lines are ridiculously long i wait in the self checkout line it was moving pretty quick and i only had a few things. Of course i get up to the self check out machine the young lady Brianna was nicer than the other lady Quetta that normally works it she's terrible she doesn't greet you she stands there she's slow and when it's time for you to go to one of the machines she said "go there " but anyways Brianna was nice i didn't get a greet from her either but she directed me to the machine by saying "this one is open you can use that one" but my only complaint about her is she was also on her phone. I'm finally done checking out and i go over to customer service to let them know i was there to pick up groceries that my neighbor placed online someone paged customer service to the desk but of course i stood there for 15-20 minutes and no one showed so i walked over to the online shopping part of the store and low and behold i found 5 employees doing nothing (most likely on the clock) i caught one name and that's because she was the oonly one that helped me (Victoria) she was super nice i told her i was picking up and she asked my name i told her my neighbors last name and she went to check on it. She then cane back and said it wasn't ready they were a bit behind on orders but i could wait alittle but being that it was almost ready i told her i was going to load my groceries in my car and i would be back. I went to the car loaded my things cane back and sat on the bench. The employees must of had a great lunch because they left their trash on the floor, someone should really tell them the office they go in isn't sound proof because you can hear everything, someone should also teach these people how to bag they were just throwing things in the bag like it wasn't a problem. I then seen by that bench there is a lot of traffic with employees and carts so i moved and stood by the pharmacy it took a little longer than expected so i went over and grabbed me a sub from their deli one thing i can say good about this place is the sub was fantastic! I payed for my sub and walked back over and the experience got worst when i went back over there was a employee nodding off maybe she was on crack? Only lord knows what she was on but she was so doped up she didn't hear or see me get up close and personal to take the picture of her oh and her name badge said Paula that's how i knew she worked there! But i finally got my neighbors groceries about a half hour later! DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE i showed my neighbor and for now on I'm gonna take the time and go down to McHenry Row location instead to shop and pick up her groc! DONT GO HERE read more

So happy for the residents and neighbors of Canton and Brewers Hill -- they needed an alternative to the only grocery, Safeway. And, this Harris Teeter is what Safeway was, but, did not turn out to be. The Deli needs much more organization, however. And, that entire area, near the Deli needs to be more open.
