Our mindful, alignment-oriented approach, integrated with the philosophy of yoga, emphasizes quality instruction within each of the unique styles offered. Our goal is to offer you practices that support and create ease, joy and harmony in your life, both on and off the mat.
Our compassionate style of teaching includes individualized instruction, with manual adjustments to facilitate a deeper understanding of the postures. We use props when necessary for support, and to help teach and understand particular actions. Moving at a comfortable pace, we draw our students' attention to the breath, with the invitation to deepen the awareness within each posture.
Integrated with the philosophy and the many practices of yoga, the path of yoga becomes a journey toward knowing oneself at the deepest level.
History
Established in 1984.
I began teaching yoga in 1984 under the name of Lifedance Yoga. At that time there was only one other instructor in the Spokane area. I started teaching in homes and church halls and eventually found a location on the lower South Hill where I opened up a formal studio. By 1999 classes had grown to the point of needing a larger location. I visualized my next studio, and within a week it materialized! I was able to design the interior exactly as I wanted and specifically for the purpose of Yoga. Harmony Yoga at its present location was launched. Over the past 19 years I have employed a variety of instructors, classes have been added, students have come, gone, returned and stayed! In 2012 I directed our first RYT-200 Teacher Training, and have directed and taught 7 trainings to date.
Meet the Business Owner: Alison R.
I was born and grew up in England. As a teenager I became interested in Eastern Spirituality, and when I came to the USA at the age of 18, I discovered yoga. It immediately resonated for me, and for 12 years I attended weekly classes and practiced on my own mat. When I moved to Spokane, the only other instructor had plans to move out of state, and so I took over the teacher role. It was evident to me that I needed to receive more training and so I pursued and engaged in many Teacher Trainings and Yoga Workshops over the next few years. When Yoga Alliance was birthed, I was grandfathered in as a RYT-500. Yoga has been my friend and inspiration for my entire adult life, through 45 years of marriage, 3 children, 5 grandchildren as well as through cancer and a couple major surgeries. I am deeply grateful for this practice and am honored to share its benefits with my students on and off the mat!
