Did a takeout order at Harmony in Mill Valley. They have a takeout area where you can order and takeout near the kitchen or you can dine which they have a nice area to sit. Since I do takeout the staff is friendly and helpful. I cot chow mein, fried rice, egg roll, and shu mai. They have a few other things on the hot bar which you order and the server gets it for you. They are a bit pricey, but their food is good. They do have a dim sum menu. It's your typical Chinese restaurant, but one of the better ones in Marin.

I've passed Harmony countless times and always assumed it was some sort of furniture or home décor store (the West Elm adjacency is misleading), so I was genuinely surprised to learn it was a Chinese restaurant. I went in curious and optimistic -- unfortunately, the experience fell flat almost immediately. Upon entering, no one acknowledged us or greeted us at the door. For a restaurant that presents itself as modern and slightly upscale, that lack of front-of-house awareness was noticeable and set an awkward tone from the start. We ordered the vegetable cake, a dish I'm very familiar with and usually love. Texturally, it was decent -- soft inside with a lightly crisp exterior -- but the flavor missed the mark. It tasted under-seasoned yet strangely heavy, with an excess of oil that lingered on the palate. Instead of feeling clean and balanced, it felt weighed down. For context, Palate Garden Party executes this dish far better: brighter flavor, better seasoning, and far less grease -- and at a lower price point. Even with the longer drive, the difference in quality makes it worth it. Dessert was a banana sesame roll dumpling dish that sounded promising on paper. The first bite was interesting, but that novelty disappeared quickly. The dumpling skin was far too thick and overly crunchy, almost stale-textured, which overwhelmed the filling. The interior lacked cohesion and finesse, and the cinnamon flavor felt muddled rather than intentional. We didn't finish it. Across the board, the food leaned excessively greasy, to the point where it didn't feel good to eat. I left feeling heavy and uncomfortable rather than satisfied. The flavors never quite came together, the quality didn't feel refined, and there wasn't enough charm or warmth to compensate for the technical misses. Overall, this isn't a place I'd return to or recommend. There are far better options for Chinese food that offer cleaner flavors, better execution, and a more thoughtful dining experience.

Dining room just after closing

Celebrating our daughter's 21st birthday here with family tonight. We sure love this place! The food is exceptional, the staff is always terrific, and the ambiance is clean, comfortable and cheery. Sit down, settle in and enjoy the experience! And don't miss the Siu Mai, chicken lettuce cups and chrysanthemum tea!

Pea shoots with shiitake mushrooms

I came specifically for the vegetarian/ vegan dim sum and Harmony did not disappoint. I ordered the leek & corn dumplings, grilled turnip cakes, lotus leaf rice (request veg) and pea shoots with shiitake mushrooms. While my $55 total before tip was a bit steep for a lunch for one, I was still glad I got to try the food because it's not often that I can find vegan dim sum especially the lotus leaf rice. Thanks for offering veg options Harmony!

Chinese Chicken Salad with tofu instead of chicken

While Harmony won't be on the Bib Gourmand list anytime soon, it does have the cozy broken-in charm of a neighborhood stalwart. The moody dining room and unfailingly warm service are a draw, making you feel at home whether or not you're a first-timer; it's clear many of the patrons are far from being first-timers and that familiarity is part of the appeal. My Chinese Chicken Salad (sub tofu for chicken; that option is a huge plus) arrived bland and dry, but some extra spicy mustard that is brought to every table breathed some new life into it. I'd suggest coating the romaine much more generously to make each bite count. Right now, the only satisfying bites were ones including the tofu, which was a hero flavor that couldn't quite elevate the entire dish on its own. However, I'll reiterate how appreciated it is that they do the substitution making the salad vegetarian. I wouldn't be unhappy returning, but I wouldn't venture too far out of my way to do so.

Been coming here since they opened. The food has always been great. The pork buns and harmony beef are marvelous.

A consistently good meal. We've don't both take out and eat in. Take out is easy and fast. Best (might be only) place for dim sum in marin.

Everything was wonderful dim sum wise and service! Skip the green beans not good and I love Asian style green beans usually.

Mamahuhu - Sweet and Spicy Chicken Sandwich

Mamahuhu is a fresh take on Chinese food…read more I ordered the broccoli beef with jasmine rice and although they were out of the drink I wanted, they did have plain sparkling water. The space doesn't have much outside seating (a single table) but there's plenty of seating over by the cafe down the street, so definitely consider getting your food to-go and eating at the picnic tables if you prefer sitting outdoors. Overall, the service was helpful and prompt and the food was delicious. We loved our meal and would absolutely stop by again!

We've been wanting to try Mamahuhu and so glad we made the trip to Mill Valley to do so…read more We ordered the Mushroom Mapo Tofu, Sweet & Sour Chicken (the standout dish!), and Jade Fried Rice, and every dish impressed. The Sweet & Sour Chicken was the highlight--perfectly crispy with a glossy sauce that struck a great balance between sweet and tangy. The addition of pineapple, bell peppers, and onions kept every bite fresh without overpowering the chicken. The Mushroom Mapo Tofu was rich, deeply savory, and packed with silky tofu in a beautifully spicy, numbing sauce. The mushrooms added great texture, and the generous sprinkle of crispy black beans and scallions on top made it even better. The Jade Fried Rice was a great supporting dish--light, flavorful, and studded with egg, greens, and bits of meat without feeling greasy. The portions were generous and perfect for two people to share. They also offer rice plate combinations, but we opted for individual entrées and were glad we did since it let us try more dishes. The restaurant itself is casual, cute, and very clean, making it a comfortable spot for lunch or dinner. Excellent food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere--we'll definitely be back.

I'm so glad I discovered this place. I just need to remember to take photos of the food! lol…read more I've only ever ordered takeout, so I can't really speak on service, but our orders always arrive perfect. We typically order the Beef Chow Fun and the Hot and Sour Won Ton Soup. Both are incredible. I highly recommend both dishes.

Been in search of a good Chinese restaurant in Marin since my fave J. Lowes closed…read more I'd never heard of Emma's before. It's next to the $ store in San Rafael. The inside is painted black or dark charcoal more suited for a nightclub than a Chinese restaurant but the big modern chandeliers keep it from being dark. My hubs and I were seated in a small booth. The seats were comfortable but it had a small square table so it had trouble holding all our plates. We ordered 2 lunch specials and I had to order my favorite, crispy chow mein. The crispy chow mein had a nice amount of veggies. The chicken tasted like it was dipped in corn starch and the sauce was rather bland, the noodles quite greasy. We also ordered chicken with green beans with chow mein and the sirloin and scallops with fried rice. Again the meats had that gummy corn starch flavor. Everything was salty but lacked much flavor. The lunch came with hot and sour soup, that was well done as well as a nice crispy veggie egg roll. The portions of the plates were very good for the price. But my Lack of 2 stars were for the bland flavors. Chinese food can have really flavorful spices and sauces.
