This is one of my favorite BBQ joints in town. When you walk in the door you are welcomed with a Texas picnic vibe and savory BBQ. I had the huge BBQ baked potato, which has taken comfort food to a whole new level. You will need to share or take half home because the portions are as big as Texas. The sides were amazing. Stopped in for some quick BBQ on a cold day and was blown away by the place. Small and cozy atmosphere, clean bathrooms, great decor. The menu is easy to understand and reasonably priced. Love the monster 'El Jefe'. Like a sampler of all they have. Mac and cheese was tasty and so was the coleslaw. I like that I don't have to drive all the way out to Eli's BBQ to get decent quality flavorful bbq. Ill be back for more!! read more

This place is very authentic Texas barbecue at its best! As I understand correctly the owners went to Texas to learn this skill and brought it back here for us in Kentucky! What I like is they have a single barbecue sauce no need for mild medium hot blah blah blah just one amazing sauce! Jalapeño sausage is a must get brisket is super delicious french fries are amazing cornbread is amazing even the ice tea is amazing! Don't forget to get a brookie Half brownie half a cookie! I've been there a few times now. If you go at lunch, go early because the place fills up pretty quick around noon. Best brisket I have ever had by far, and i'm pretty picky about my brisket. The sausage with jalapeno was pretty amazing too if you can stand the heat - it's not for the meek! I dislike the cafeteria style tables, and wish there was more sauces to choose from, but still think it's the best BBQ in NKY. I'll be back often! read more

Was told this place was really good but we were very disappointed. Wanted so bad to like it but just didn't. We ordered the 2 meat plate and were going to share. There wasn't enough meat to share at all. My husband went back to order more brisket and they were out of it. No cornbread with the meal. That was $2.50 extra. The mac & cheese tasted funny like there was pimento in it. The creamed corn was not good. No greens. The beans were ok but the servings were tiny. Only one kind of barbeque sauce out. Seemed like they were short staffed and it was a Saturday evening when most restaurants are busy. Will stick with our barbeque restaurant in Harrison. read more

I came back to update my review, only to realize I never left one! So, I'll start with what my first visit review might have said. It was disappointing. Staff was unhelpful, bored, and didn't seem to want to be there that day. The black folding chairs were atrocious. I vowed never to eat in again just based on the chairs. The food was ok, similar to any other place, maybe slightly better than alright. The brisket, however was wonderful. We had the El Jefe, pulled pork sandwich, Mac n cheese, fries and there might have been one other side. Wish they had a bit more kick to the sides and a few sauce choices but based on that first visit I was unlikely to return. I Infact, it was about a year later that I decided to return. I did so under protest. I'd just been to the hospital up the hill and was in no mood to sit in the uncomfortable chairs. The chairs have thankfully been changed (!!!) and it was such a welcome surprise. I've been known to choose crappy food with a comfortable environment over excellent food and an uncomfortable environment, so this was a big deal to me. this time our cashier was friendly, offered suggestions and chatted a bit with us. The crew making food was also improved. Very nice and appreciated change. This time we had a 3 meat plate, jalapeno cheese sausage, brisket, pulled pork, brisket baked potato, baked beans and Mac n cheese. The beans were ok, I like the variety of beans used, I think tricky tastebuds I like onion and sweet beans. The potato was very good and the sausage was super hot if that's your thing. The brisket, just like last time, was the star. I'm not big time meat eater and I'm generally not much of a bbq fan, but I'd eat this brisket every single day. I'd still like to see a kick up to the sides and a few sauce choices, but now that the chairs are different and the brisket still rocks, I'll stop in way more often. The brisket is the best I've had in the area, I may have even dreamt about it, and because of it I've been only getting brisket at other local bbq places to compare. I ordered Smoked Sausage and Jalapeno Sausage with sides of Mac b Cheese and potato salad, what I got was Brisket and Pulled Pork with gene beans and Mac b Cheese. Glad we came here! Took my wife and daughter as well as my parents to Harmon's on Thursday night around 720 pm and we got there just before they started to run out of wings. We got the last full order lol and they were great! I got the 3 meat plate so I could try as much as I could. I got the ribs, pulled pork and sliced brisket. Wife got the wings. My daughter ate off our plates after she ate a hotdog lol. Now on to the food. The Ribs were fantastic!! And the brisket was on point! The pulled pork was good not great. All 3 had a great smoke ring and good flavor. And the wings were good but not really smoked tasting in my opinion. Over all good food. Clean and the staff seemed on point. Would eat there again. Next time I'm going for a full rack of ribs. Or maybe brisket. I can't decide! read more

The young man at the front who took my friend's and I order was very kind. This was our first time coming, I got ribs they were okay. Prefer Eli's BBQ over this. With the ribs I asked for beans and cream of corn. I love cream of corn, this stuff was the nastiest thing I have ever eaten before. Corn is clearly frozen and idk what the cream was but it was foul. Tried the beans the beans themselves were good but everything in the beans were not. I go to the counter and apologize that I did not like the sides and asked if I could have something different. The young man kindly said not a problem. Goes into the back i hear some women who wasn't even apart of the first interaction serves up the new sides I handed her the old sides and she snatched them out of my hands! Very very rude. My friends chopped brisket sandwich smelled and tasted like lighter fluid. The corn bread and the young man at the front were the only reason this place gets two stars. read more

We sampled the menu...smoke rings all around, ribs were perfect, brisket...well i thought i was in Texas!! Now that brisket was top notch!! Pulled pork was very good and so was the turkey and sausage!! Sides were good...green beans were good, baked beans were really good, slaw was really good, potato salad was good, Mac and cheese was just plain, the Johnny Cakes (sweet corn bread) was pretty good as well...all in all i would definitely give this place two thumbs up and a absolute return trip multiple times will be coming!! Boy Howdy! I was looking for Texas bbq, and Harmon's surpasses the test. The aroma hits you as you walk in the door. It brought back memories of home. Best barbecue in the Tri-State area! Brisket was fall-apart tender, but you've got ask for the fatty brisket, that's where the flavor is. Smoked turkey actually tastes like turkey (so many have no flavor) and is very tender. Sides good too, baked beans an interesting mix of beans in a good sauce and homemade cream corn was almost a dessert. Speaking of dessert, the banana pudding was just how I like it, heavy on the pudding with a little bit of the other stuff thrown in for effect. Part of why Harmon's is so good is because they wood smoke, with real wood, not pellets or chips, it makes a difference! It's a bit of a drive from Cincinnati but totally worth it.
