This place is a 5-star find! Highly recommend coming early to beat the rush, which lasted well into the evening. Gluten free guest, here - thrilled with the offerings. Best fried brussels and steak nachos we have ever had. The queso was smooth and flavorful, the steak perfectly cooked. The brussels were a wonderful mix of lovely crunch and a creamy bacon and cherry finish. Skip the Korean rice bowl in favor of literally everything else. For dessert we had a seasonal pumpkin spice cheesecake crème fraise. Chef's kiss! The Lex Lux Vegas cocktail was tart and balanced. The Blue Mountain Dark Hollow stout was malty, creamy, and strong. Go here. You'll be glad.

Great food, drinks, service and ambiance. We had the ahi tostada and nachos. We will definitely be back!

This place is a must visit when in the Lexington, VA area. Very cool vibe, friendly service and amazing food and drinks. We tired Thai chicken wings, smash burger and Mac and cheese (I requested our server to put Serrano peppers on top!) Everything tasted delicious. They have nice cocktails, wine and beer options.

Amazing food, wonderful service, and gluten free options. 8 had the Thai wing which were delicious. My wife had the smash burger on gluten free bun. Also recommend the Viva Lux Vegas cocktail.

We decided to make a quick visit to Lexington to celebrate Schweety's birthday. Our "usual" is closed so after a bit of research, we came upon Hardens. This may me our new usual!! What a gem! The cocktail list is wonderful. We ordered several :). But needing a bit a food, the tuna tostada was phenomenal! Our first course. The menu here is small but mighty. Several at the bar were enjoying the steak sandwich, so that's the choice Schweety made, too. I've been trying to stay on the lighter side so initially was going to get the Wedge salad, but based on someone down the bar, I choose the Harvest Salad and added the tuna because it was so awesome in the appetizer. WOW! One of the best salads, EVER! A restaurant which would receive accolades wherever it was located.. Lucky Lexington!

Thai Wings & the Mac and Cheese

INSANELY delicious! 10/10 recommend a trip to Lexington with this restaurant as the main attraction. The dining room is one open room so it did get a bit lively, but the food and drinks were well worth the steady buzz of fellow excited patrons. Our server was an absolute sweetheart, said it was just the 3 front of house servers working- including the bartender- and they have only been open for a year and a half. Compliments all around the house, we will definitely be returning and hopefully sooner rather than later.

Stopped by on way to Lime Kiln Theater for a show. Service was quick and drinks were excellent. Food was also great. The fries, smash burger, wedge salad all were what we were looking for before a show.

Still thinking about my dinner here last night and am so sad I don't live closer. I had one of their seasonal cocktails and the steak frites. So many yummy things on their menu! Can't wait to come back!

I enjoyed the sea bass that I was served, but my partner ordered a vegetarian dish that was mostly rice with veggies mixed in priced at $28(!!). It was barely OK by her standards, certainly not worth the price. Ditto for a side of sautéed mushrooms priced at $18(!!), adequate but hardly worth that price. There are several much more reasonably priced restaurants in town with better food on the menu.

Four out of the five guests in our party were so excited about the Eggs Benedict with a Bernaise sauce instead of the more traditional hollandaise sauce. We loved the option of the crabcake over Florentine choices although I think all of us wish we had gotten the crabcake option after seeing it delivered to our table. The Bloody Mary's were absolutely to die for (not overdone, simple and easy to go thru a few during our breakfast) and I'll be back just for this combination again of the eggs Benedict with Bernaise and a Bloody Mary. The ambience of Heywoods was easy to enjoy. We had a lovely breakfast full of lots of laughter and never felt like we were disturbing others nor did anybody else seem to be disturbed or disrupted by the fun we were having at our table. The server was absolutely wonderful and attentive.

We decided to give it another try but this time will also be our last. We ordered the chicken and dumplings. What we got was 2 big containers of chicken broth with little scraps of chicken floating in it. It was like lousy chicken soup. The dumplings were not bad but when I found that some of the "chicken" was skin and even a bone I was disgusted. There was not even a half chicken breast total in the 2 orders. I don't know who is really doing the cooking for this takeout service but it is not good.

We started with the savory cheesecake, which was really more of a cold cheese dip. I was expecting a souffle like item which you would eat with a fork (like a cheesecake) but this was still good! It was delicious on the toasted bread and the tomato jam was good, despite my hesitation. We also got the fried brussel sprouts, which were incredible - perfectly crispy and served with a delicious aioli. I had the salmon club as my entree and kind of expected smoked salmon since it specified a bagel, but it was a cooked piece, which was kind of strange. I almost would have preferred smoked, which would've been easier to eat on a bagel. The entire thing was a little impractical to eat as a sandwich. I did enjoy the slaw, which had a nice vinegary taste. It was definitely the size of a full entree so don't let the "lighter fare" heading throw you off. I would probably come back if I were in the area!

The chips were clearly fresh out of the fryer, perfectly crisp, and paired with a flavorful salsa that had a nice hint of heat. We both ordered the Speedy Gonzales, featuring a cheese enchilada, beef taco, and refried beans. As expected, everything was consistently good and exactly what we've come to enjoy from that dish. The restaurant itself has a great look and feel, making it an easy and enjoyable stop for lunch. We would certainly come back again if we're ever in the area

They had a lot of customers dining in and a few picking up takeaway orders. It didn't take very long for them to take our orders and to have it come out of the kitchen. They have a spacious dining area that is decorated very much on theme with Mexican-inspired decor and murals. It was cute. I ordered carnitas and a frozen mango margarita. We also ordered guacamole to share for the table. The carnitas plate was a filling portion and was quite flavorful. I quite enjoyed it. I was really disappointed with the frozen margarita; it tasted just like juice, and I was kind of looking forward to drinking a stronger margarita. We asked for a little bit more tequila to add to it, but it didn't help much. I think was balance was all out of wack. The guacamole we ordered also never made its way to our table, and we had to ask the cashier to confirm with our waiter that they need to take it off our bill because we never got it. Overall, we had an okay experience.

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to return to those special ones, that have made a difference in my life and highlight them, for the benefit of the public, so they too can have an opportunity to appreciate the qualities of a one-of-a-kind fine dining experience. And Bernard's Gastropub & Eatery in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Bernard's was born out of the love of two culinary aficionados turned professionals that in someway have managed to create a restaurant with an environment that transmits this intimate love to the hearts of their customers through the attention to detail in its extraordinary customer service and amazing culinary masterpieces. Today, I felt like dining at this restaurant, which I admire for its consistency in always far exceeding my high expectations of what a fine-dining restaurant should be all about. Not knowing if they would have a table for me at this late time on a Saturday early evening, I drove in my pearl white Lexus to the nearest private parking lot and gave them a call to inquire as if they could give me a reservation for the next ten minutes. A gentleman, who later I found out was named Matthew, and would be my server, answered the phone with a very polite and welcoming voice; answering my question of what was the special dish of the day and to come on down, that my reservation was assured. As soon as I arrived to the small, very elegant foyer in front of the Host's station, he came out to greet me and instantly recognized who I was. My only request was that he give me a low table because at my age seating at a high table was a bit uncomfortable. He went back to see what he could find and ended setting me up with what I consider one of the best tables of the house, and I was so appreciative of his last minute accommodation. The menu was already setup on my table. He poured water from a special bottle into my water glass and asked if I wanted something else to drink. I asked for a Mocktail and since he also was a bartender, he prepared me one of the best mocktails I've ever had. To dine, I started out with their Mussels Carbonara appetizer, which came in a bacon parmesan cream sauce that was simply amazing, and served with toast points. As my main entrée I had the Dinner Special of the Night, the Seafood Trio. It had a delicious, giant size crab cake in the middle, scallops, and shrimps, with parmesan risotto sautéed heirloom tomato, spinach, and nice size asparagus, with a burre blanc sauce. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review to get a better sense of the high-quality of their food and magnificent ambiance of the place. Everything was so delicious that only one word could ever describe them: priceless! For dessert I had their very famous Butterscotch Banana Pudding, which the chef makes at the moment ordered. It looked spectacular and tasted amazingly delicious: a culinary work of art. What a great way for the Gran Finale of an extraordinary dining experience!
