The decor was really nice and is definitely not your average dark and gloomy pub. It's got more of an upscale, yet historical vibe to it. Ordered the chicken & waffles, which was a great serving size. The food was the right temperature and I recommend this dish! Also got the fish & chips, which I'd definitely expect to see in a pub environment. The fish was cooked well with the crispy fries, making it an excellent pub choice. The power bowl with chicken was nice, yet hearty. Eating it mad me feel like I was eating a very healthy, which is was. Lots of food colors adorn the dish and I also recommend this. The nachos came out on a Huge plate. They are definitely meant to share with 3 or more people. It was a hit at the table as well. As for the service, it was so disappointing. We got the drinks refilled one time and the waitress didn't seemed to be happy serving. She didn't thank us to coming in or anything. I guess we weren't dressed up enough? Who knows. I suppose if you're a local, TAPS is about as good as it gets. But if you have dined in major cities around the world, this is about an equivalent to cafeteria food. This place aims for style with zero substance. I got the Lex Vegas to start which wasn't as full as it should have been. The flavor was pretty good, however. My husband got the burger which was quite literally the ones that you buy in the frozen section of the grocery store and they added some pimento cheese to it; no lettuce, tomato, onion....nothing. A bunch of pickles and pimento cheese....with hard and charred shoe string fries. Wow. I had the Cobb salad with chicken and it was crazy plain. The chicken wasn't marinated or anything. $18 for chopped romaine and a hard boiled egg. Extremely overpriced. Waters weren't filled even once past getting them initially. Service was meh. Located in a cute little downtown area. It's street parking in front of the restaurant. Taps is clean and welcoming. The food came out decently fast! I got the Power Bowl, which was amazing! However, I must say the Taps Burger that the rest of my crew got looked so delicious! They are generous with the amount of fries. The grilled cheese from the kids menu is huge. A friend and I lunched here and it was such a treat! She had the veggie burger (a repeat customer) and I had the fish tacos. I really appreciated server Areli steering me towards these gems. There were three tacos, each with a single slice of seared tuna (so raw in middle) and were garnished with a very tasty combination of thin cabbage, wasabi aioli ( just the right amount of spice for my mild palate), avocado and maybe other chef secrets. Really tasty and a perfect lunch (not too filling). Fries good. The dining room was a bit loud even though not all tables were occupied. The bar area tables would have been nice and quiet, but the chairs are conducive to leaning back with a drink; over a plate not so much. Luxurious paper towels in the restrooms. Everything spotless. They have an area, the room in which the bar is located, with classy conversation nooks created from arrangements of armchairs, small sofas and pillows. super cute and would make for fun pictures with friends. I think you could go dressy or casual. The food was good too. Their menu says they have the best wings in Lexington... I'm not sure about that, they were decent though. I had the kale salad and it was very flavorful and refined, very thin ribbons of kale and cabbage, toasted almonds, goat cheese, and dainty apple slices in vinaigrette... I love salads with fruit and goat cheese and this one was one of the best I've ever had. They actually made it seem different than the average goat cheese salad by how finely chopped the ingredients were, it made the average kind seem kind of rustic. I had the salmon with my salad. Seasoned with only salt, most likely, but tasted fresh and tender and was a huge portion. read more

The dishes are fine--nothing surprising. While the lack of variety can feel uninspiring because the menu remains unchanged, the atmosphere is pleasant, albeit at times very noisy. One thing is certain: I constantly order takeout, and 95% of the time, things are left out of my order. For example, they don't swap out sweet potato for regular friends as requested, don't give me extra garlic aioli when requested, etc. I have to go in and manually check the order myself. They are buying up businesses with their brand in the downtown which is not making people happy; they therefore need to do better with their product. read more

Taps was recommended to us by a W&L professor but our dinner experience was mediocre. Ambience was nice enough and our young waiter was friendly and attentive. But my fried oysters appetizer featured small and tasteless oysters. The Cobb salad entree was just passable and it was delivered by someone from the kitchen right after we had started on the appetizer. We will give them another chance when we are back in Lexington but this eatery isn't exactly swinging for the fence. read more

We stopped here after visiting Natural Bridge and the Caverns. The place has great ambience and very friendly staff. The menu is small but well thought out. All the menu items were elevated classics with an interesting twist. The burger was fantastic. It was missing the listed bread and butter pickles but they weren't missed much. The chicken and waffles had several nice twists that elevated a Southern classic. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and very very friendly. ATMOSPHERE Nicer restaurant with full table service and bar in George's Hotel. A little warm around the edges on closer inspection, like ripped seats. SERVICE A little awkward. At first we were unsure of where to enter because it's part of the hotel, and upon entry the receptionist just smiled at us. I asked about the restaurant and we were told to check in at the bar. That interaction felt a little awkward as well, but we were excited to seat ourselves and eat. Our server started out great. But after we got our food no one checked on us and once we finished eating, no one came with the check. We finally got up to pay at the bar. FOOD The Cobb salad was pretty good. But I was disappointed in the rice pilaf. It tasted just like steamed white rice. I was looking forward to the combo of flavors from the rice pilaf, pico de gallo, avocado, etc. A thick, out of the bottle teriyaki sauce was the last thing I expected to be served with it--had I known what it was, I would not have poured it on the dish. It clashed and overwhelmed the other flavors. Additionally, there is no vegetarian protein option for the power bowl. OVERALL You could try some of the other dishes... they looked pretty good at other tables. But I'm not going back. 2 stars for a pretty big swing and a miss. My friends and I were in town to visit and looking for somewhere to grab dinner. Our local friend suggested we try out TAPS. Located on Main Street in the Georges Hotel, we arrived at the venue for our 7pm reservations and were promptly escorted outside to a cute little back area to start our meal. While the atmosphere for this spot seems fun, everything else about the meal was pretty mediocre. Our waitress came out to say hello after a little while and was really sporadic in terms of taking care of our table. While she wasn't a bad waitress, the lack of attention combined with errors with our food and checks made for a pretty frustrating experience for all of us throughout the night. The service issues weren't that big of a deal and could have been forgiven had the drinks and food been any good. Unfortunately, all of our cocktails were extremely weak (my wife was the smart and ordered wine instead) and our food was just not that great. I ordered the fish and chips while my wife ordered the power bowl, and both dishes were more in line with something you would order at a basic pub rather than at one of the "better" restaurants in town. The recommendation from the waitress and several other reviews was the burger, which my friend ordered, and he also found it to just be like a standard pub burger. Overall, while TAPS did not provide us with an overtly bad experience, it mostly didn't provide us much of an experience at all. Others might have a better experience here, but I would rather check out other spots in the area. read more

TAPS is part of the Uber high end boutique hotel, the Georges. We were in town scouting a future location for our traveling "club", and needed a casual dinner. TAPS fit the bill nicely. You can't beat the ambience. We sat at a small bistro table about 15 feet from a large colonial fireplace. We could watch the bartender (who doubled as the waiter) do his thing as well as the steady stream of takeout travel. We both had a before-dinner drink. What! no draft beer in here; that's ironic? So I settled for a bottle of Stella Artois and my wife got the George Marshall cocktail. She was a bit underwhelmed with it. I tasted it and it reminded me of grapefruit juice. As I recall it was a mixture of St. Germain, gin, lemon and sparkling water. Our food: we settled on a Cobb salad and TAPS burger. The Cobb salad featured a very light and slightly sweet dressing. No surprises here. Just a good salad with fresh ingredients. The burger was cooked to perfection, and featured a nice brioche bun! We split our food. Came in for a late lunch after doing a garden tour in the area. Loved the ambiance of the place and the service was very friendly. We sat at a table right next to the fireplace which was nice after walking around in the rain. I appreciated the warmth. We ordered the garlic parmesan wings to start which were crispy and quick to come out. The executive chef brought out our entrees which I thought was a nice touch. I ordered the fish tacos and im not usually a fan of flour tortillas but the ingredients inside the tacos were so fresh & flavorful that the lack of corn tortillas didn't even matter. My boyfriend ordered the burger and while it looked a bit plain to me (no lettuce, tomato & onion) he really enjoyed it. It was a nice thick patty with some kind of sauce and pickles. Salmon over cooked after asking for medium rare(knowing they would overcook it). Husband ordered a burger and a salad. Salad came at same time as burger and was so drenched in dressing he couldn't eat it. Fries tasted like they were a day old. At some point , we were too embarrassed for them to complain anymore. Wonderful lunch at an historic inn in beautiful Downtown Lexington, Virginia! Met my son and his beloved met me for lunch on a Monday when many other restaurants are closed. TAPS was open and very welcoming. The three of us are a diverse group: he's dairy-free, she's gluten free, and I'm a vegetarian! All of us were very easily accommodated as the menu indicated what dishes could be gluten free! Our waitress was lovely and made sure everything was perfect. Portions were plentiful and everything well presented. It was a quick lunch as they had to get back on the road to head home to D.C.
