This was a lovely little restaurant on a hotel that we wandered upon in Lexington. It was not crowded on a Saturday night in midwinter, and we had a delicious dinner. My husband and I shared the coconut shrimp appetizer and the chicken piccata. They were both fantastic. The chicken, roast potatoes and vegetables were cooked perfectly and the flavor was delicious. In such a nice setting I guess I expected more. The onion soup has a weak broth. We had cauliflower bites but the dip with it was an overpowering ranch. Chicken sandwich was less than inspirational. I was staying at the Robert E Lee Hotel, now called the Gin, and thought I'd supp here as it was convenient. I ate "outside" on a mild, gorgeous, late October day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the Pasta Primavera and cheesecake to eat as well as some local IPA beer which did the trick. I'd eaten at a high end restaurant which was was more costly the night before, but the food was better When I visit Lexington again, I'll definitely eat here. It wasn't crowded ( 6pm on a Saturday ) , the server Crystal was great, and outside it wasn't noisy and I breathed fresh air. I'll be back! read more

We've never been disappointed. Sunday brunch is a favorite but we also enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet. Food is always well prepared, service pleasant and the prices fair. The room is nice and the open, second story porch overlooking Lexington's lovely main street is delightful. We came to Rocca for happy hour before our movie. They have an excellent happy hour: $5 for select appetizers and $5 drinks including rail drinks and wine. Naturally, we got a bit hungry so we ordered a few things off their normal menu. The calamari was excellent! It tasted extremely fresh and the sauce they served with it was just amazing. The sausage gnocchi was good, but just kind of average. I wouldn't necessarily order it again. (The calamari I would definitely order again.) The salmon pasta was not good. Despite there only being a few little pieces of salmon mixed into the pasta, it tasted extremely fishy. The manager happily offered to take the item off our bill which we appreciated. Rocca has a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking the main street in historic Lexington. The service is great and the happy hour deals are good for the area. I would probably come here for happy hour and appetizers, but opt of dinner across the street. read more

This is one of those places that is so good, I kinda don't want to review it so I can still get a table! ;-) In all seriousness, we came to the Juniper Lounge on a Friday in the hope we could get a table outside on a beautiful day and enjoy some Happy Hour drinks, and we were thrilled to get in! BF got wine and I got the "drink of the moment " - the Pink Lady, vodka, pomegranate juice and triple sec served in a tall glass. Which I took one sip of and then spilled all over myself (boo). Luckily for me, our waitress, Miranda, was just the sweetest ever and got me a new drink (at no charge - so nice!). For food, we had the drunken mussels and bruchetta which are both regular appetizers but at about half price. The food was delish and very heartily portioned. The bruchetta topping was my favorite - fresh tomatoes and herbs, so good. We also tried their red and white sangria (I ended up having a 2nd white sangria!). All the food and drinks were great, the location can't be beat, and our service was outstanding. We will definitely be back! You can even eat outside on the first of November. Loved the thoughtfulness of the black napkins. Food: what's not to love about warm, homemade bread? Good Caesar salad or if you prefer get the Parmesan cheese soup--outstanding. The entree was gnocchi ragu with locally sourced sausage. Service: in one word, outstanding. So, my wife and I only went there for drinks on a Saturday night after dinner. We were just walking around downtown when we followed the music right to this place. It's on the second floor of the Gin Hotel (formerly the Robert E. Lee). Service was outstanding. The hostess was amazing. She found the perfect table for two for us to listen to the music. They were shorthanded but everyone of the staff pitched in to ensure all the guests were taken care of. We saw the hostess bussing tables and bar tending in addition to her own duties. My wife had a very reasonably priced Cabernet and I had a Makers on the rocks. We shared a delicious piece of key lime pie (could have been a bit more tart), and listened to some very nice live music. The weather was a bonus too. A nice light breeze. Definitely a nice and classy place for a drink. read more

Nice night - no concerns about being exposed to all the elements As with many families, there was some discord going into the dinner. I kept thinking the waitperson will bring out wine all will be fine & I was right. Wine mellowed the crowd out. I got the carbonara. Hadn't had carbonara in awhile (it's not the healthiest dish). And the sauce was a little creamier. But OMG, the pasta is good - fresh. Good pasta, good setting, good service and reasonably priced, too! read more

Judging from reviews, I'd estimate there are not that many foodies that are writing. Portions were as expected for a restaurant producing tailored cuisine. Price is more than fast food but less than comparable meals I've had in larger cities. Service is slow on a busy night but that is the challenge of a restaurant in a small town with unsteady demand; dead many nights but booming when one of the universities have a special event. Anyone with experience running a business knows how challenging it is to balance costs with decisions of how much permanent staff to keep on knowing many a night they will be twiddling their thumbs. Our second visit and a delightful meal. This time we arrived for the happy hour drinks and appetizers. For an entree I opted for the beef short ribs... EXCELLENT. The Rocca strives to locally procure as much as possible and seems successful in doing so. Some of the furnishings are getting worn and could stand an upgrade (leather bench was cracked and worn for example). We hit a busy night so we did have less attention... not always a bad thing. Billing. Billing was clear... only those that assume and don't bother to read would miss the tips on the larger parties. We'll definitely try this a third time in the future. read more

Rocca is usually my go-to restaurant when family are in town because it's a nice dining room and has fun cocktails and pretty good food. Unfortunately, the service is usually painfully slow, but I go in with that expectation and plan accordingly. Last night, however, the service to my party-of-five was exceptionally bad. It took over 20 minutes to get a bottle of prosecco to our table, and we never even got to order dessert because by then we'd been at the restaurant for almost 2 hours! To add insult to injury, we were charged an automatic 20% gratuity. While we were a party-of-five eating dinner, I had my newborn baby with me in my arms. Apparently, her mere existence justified the automatic gratuity indicated for parties of six and over, despite the fact that she of course did nothing but sleep through dinner and took up no extra room, and I certainly didn't require any assistance from our waitress for the baby in any way. I post this in warning to other families who might not be expecting the automatic inclusion of gratuity based on the presence of an infant--be careful, and scrutinize your bill to avoid accidentally double tipping (particularly for sub-par service). I feel like this was a less than above-board move on the part of the restaurant, and plan to move my future business when hosting family in town. It was disappointing to say the least. read more

I'm so happy we stumbled upon this treasure. It's located on the second floor of the Robert E. Lee Hotel. I recommend sitting outside in nice weather-- it was beautiful to look down on Main Street in the evening. We ordered what I think was the best artichoke dip I've ever had. Artichokes mixed with kale and mascarpone cheese and what seems a drizzle of fresh lemon, was topped with toasted croutons; it was served with cheese toasted cracker shards. Additionally, the tiramisu just melted in your mouth, layer by layer, without any sogginess or hardness that frequently afflicts this dessert. I hope that more people find out about this hidden gem. Since the restaurant is not street level, it may not be apparent to those passing by looking for a nice meal. I recommend a sign be placed outside that refers to people to the second floor. read more

Lunch.. It was ok. I think they have padded their dishes in fancy terminology to look good however the food does not live up to the terminology. It was ok as I said & good for Lexington. I will return & try dinner at some point. The squash cream cup of soup was very good however we had to keep asking for bread. Finally got three sticks. The lasagne was good as was the burger my son got. The pasta was ok but the chicken big & tough to eat. A return visit.. nothing has changed. Located in a beautiful historic hotel all i can say is....FANTASTIC! Start-to-finish, this was a great dining experience. I can honestly say that our pasta dishes were exceptional and reasonably priced. The drink special was a cucumber and basil gin and tonic. Wow! It was delicious and well worth $9. We skipped appetizers because we had eaten on the road. My son had Chicken Picatta and he said it was the best he'd ever had - priced not much more than at Olive Garden, but infinitely more delicious. I had the Lemon Pasta with veggies and the taste is different but also delightful. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and we left satisfied but not stuffed. The desserts looked amazing and the guests were gushing about them around us. I will definitely eat here again! read more

While they may advertise their happy hour as any drink or appetizer for $5, it is not. You'll find that an Old Fashion is $9 when you get the bill. The appetizers, for what they were, were good. However, for the fine dining experience that Rocca prides themselves on, I was not expecting chips or pretzel bites to be the appetizers available for $5. If you want bang for your buck at a Lexington happy hour, try pretty much anywhere else, Applebee's for instance. Outside of the happy hour, good food as expected. The Chicken Pesto sandwich was great for the price. The big surprise was the fries that accompanied it. They were some of the best fries I've had in a long time. In short: skip the happy hour. Rocca is a fine dining experience, not a place for college kids to get cheap drinks and apps. read more

Lovely meal on the patio, which was very nice. The food was very good and they were accommodating with menu changes for vegetarian. Good selections for wine and the waitress was very attentive. The only suggestion is that when we arrived at 6:30 pm and stopped at the area where it said wait to be seated, there seamed to be no one paying attention to that area. read more

Came here last July to celebrate my birthday. Skimming through the reviews, I didn't catch that it was in a hotel so if you're new in the area, try to keep that in mind. Took us a minute to find it. We got seated right away which was nice. The ambiance seemed fancy with how everything was set up and you can tell they tried putting an italian flavor to it but you can be dressed as casual as you want from looking around the other people dining. I mean, it is a hotel, so it will be inevitable. I remember we ordered the calamari, I got the seafood pasta and my boyfriend got one of their steaks. I've honestly had better and he thought the same, also it was overpriced for what it was. Overall...would I come here again? Maybe not unless I was invited. read more
