When you plan on camping around here, bring your food on the way in. If not, the 25 miles you just drove, with nothing around, is the same 25 miles you'll need to return to get it. (and gas)! That was my problem today and I already knew it. SMH. First light, I drove 19 miles to gas station. Then 9 more miles to eat. Edith's was the closest food location. -Im glad she had a red sign saying OPEN in the front glass window because it looks vacant. I held my breath and walked into.....a clean seated area with a big TV to watch while you eat. I ordered coffee first of all. Its been 4 days. That coffee was delicious!. No burnt or old taste not a hint of anything except a freshly made pot of coffee. Really, it was perfect. Being the only person in there, I walked around waiting on my food order. I think the pictures were hand painted, and lots of plants inside. My breakfast came. A bacon egg and cheese biscuit with home fries and grits, I'll tell you right now, that was some good eating! Best bacon egg and cheese biscuit. Real bacon! Biscuit was fluffy and moist. I loved it. Fried potatoes were hand cut and fried up in a skillet for sure! Love to support small businesses when traveling. This place was a disappointment. The food was not homemade. The country fried steak was a frozen patty. The gravy tasted like it was canned. Didn't get a thank you or have a nice day even after leaving a $10 tip on a $30 meal. However, my husband said thw coffee was good. read more

We were visiting family in the area and wanted a good diner breakfast before a day of sightseeing and outdoors enjoyment. Edith's popped up on the search and seemed like it would fit the bill--and it did! Laid back and old-school diner with very fair prices and portions. I had the country fried steak and eggs with homefries and a biscuit, my wife ordered an egg sandwich. We both enjoyed our food and hot coffee. The owner (Edith?) seemed to be all hands on deck, assisting with the cooking (I think) and serving us as well, if so doing both tremendously! Very friendly and efficient person who appears to run a great business. If I lived in the area I'd be back to try lunch and dessert, so until that's possible I'll just have to recommend to the family members we were visiting to give Edith's a try! read more

I've only eaten here once and I loved it! It was like eating my Grandma's cooking once again "down home Southern cooking" like Momma used to say! My sister and her friend are going to be passing through tomorrow and we are going to eat lunch here. We have been having breakfast here for years, and I never considered leaving a review because this restaurant has transcended the traditional feeling of dining out and more so feels like we're having breakfast in a family friend's dining room. If you're traveling down Route 60 East or West, I highly recommend you give Ms. Edith a chance. The ambiance is so welcoming and friendly, and the staff are always ready to bring you a fresh cup of coffee and serve a delicious home-cooked meal. I truly wanted to love this place and to consider it a newfound go-to! I wanted to. Such missed opportunities at this little spot. Some menu items are worth a stop in, good breakfast. Good soup. But I'd have to pass on the sandwiches and the dessert. Skimpy is an understatement. When you can't even see the meat between the slices of bread that's not a sandwich that's a mistake. And if it's on the menu it needs to be available. Each visit I was told that the first 2-3 things I ordered were not available. If you're out of something that's a part of most of the menu options then send someone out to get it or make a daily menu of what is actually available. Clean up and straighten it up. This could be an adorable nostalgic diner with a little effort. It's just soooo close to being good/great with every potential for greatness that it's a shame not to try a little harder. Go for it! Well, it's like this. I found myself hankering for a Sunday morning drive. The trees were perfect--orange, firey, changing and all--and the air crisp. My two friends and I hopped into the ole minivan and got rolling. As the miles ticked up and up, we felt the slowly growing growl of our collective stomach. And so we fought the growl and stopped by Edith's. The atmosphere is immediately cozy and welcoming. It felt like we were stepping into a family member's kitchen for a get together. Edith's grandkids were playing with their little dinosaurs, taking plates back to the kitchen, and filling the place with laughter. Real nice. Edith's daughter, I believe, served us and was super attentive. The three of us ordered French toast, grits, eggs, sausage gravy and biscuits, and coffee. The French toast was light and perfect, the grits filling and tasty, the overeasy eggs yolky, and the sausage gravy and biscuit simply killed me. So. Damn. Good. Like, if you're gonna come to Edith's, don't leave without having had some sausage gravy. The coffee was good, straight-cut, what-ya-expect diner coffee. The three of us sat a while and reflected on the meal, the drive, the beautiful weather of the day. Edith greeted us at the counter, and we chatted a moment. I'm driving along Route 60, and just when I think Yelp has led me astray, I see the building off the side of the road. I'm greeted with a friendly "good morning." I take my seat and peruse the varied menu. Eggs; check. Country fried steak; check. Biscuits and gravy. Biscuits AND gravy! In my humble opinion, that was the best sausage gravy I have ever had. And the coffee is nice and strong, not watered down from over-brewing, like so many diners do. If there's one thing I didn't like, it's that Edith's is about 250 miles from where I live. Disappointed! We really wanted a good breakfast. The place was very dark and cold. The coffee was terrible. It smelled bad and tasted worse. We both got pancakes with our meals and they were stiff. From a food standpoint, one of my favorite things was they bring you a basket of homemade yeast rolls! Homemade! Yeast rolls. Impressed from the get-go! My husband and I both ordered fried catfish - really well prepared, tasty and plentiful! Of the sides we tried, fried okra and cole slaw were my favorites. Was searching for a place to eat prior to a hike on the AT. Stopped in here for lunch with two friends and we are now definitely fans. Edith's is clean and homey and the staff are super friendly. Home cooked food was wonderful and plentiful. There were several daily specials. I had the meat loaf and the best corn pudding I've ever eaten. My friends had the pulled pork sandwich special and liked it a lot. We came back two days later for breakfast on our way out of town and it was just as good.
