This is my second review in 6 years. They changed management, but the outstanding Quality Food and Service was still exceptional. Great Food AND even better Service! They have Hershey's ice cream in about every flavor one could want to try! They often have Daily Specials. I like the "Chuck Wagon" platter! I added Onion Rings, and they were delicious! Once again, another great experience at the Amherst Corner Restaurant. The menu does not indicate that the meal comes with hush puppies and the waitress did not mention it. So a nice little, presumably family owned restaurant, conveniently located right off 29. Waitress was nice and funny. Menu was reassured with multiple seafood options, burgers, sandwiches, soup and salad. I got probably the best vegetable soup I've ever had. Grilled cheese and sweet potato fries were spot on too. The atmosphere is beautiful. It's clean, gorgeously decorated, and has the prettiest instrumental music playing (as well as the Charlie Brown theme song, which made me smile). We stopped here by chance because we wanted some ice cream. We got small waffle cones- one with soft serve and the other with hand-dipped. We were blown away. Our portions were large, the cone was decent, and the ice cream phenomenal. Tonight we just wanted sandwiches for dinner. Based on reviews about the food, we came back here. We got the soup/grilled cheese combo and the BLT. What a disappointment. I asked for toasted white for the BLT and got Texas Toast. There was barely a dab of mayo, one thin piece of lettuce, maybe two pieces of bacon, and two thick slices of tomato that totally overpowered the sandwich. The place was busy so I gave up trying to get some mayo. My husband said while the soup was vey hot and looked good, it was just okay. Same for the grilled cheese. But the real disappointment was I decided to get some ice cream. We ordered the same size but both with hand-dipped. Sadly this time we got barely two scoops. I even asked the girl if it was the right amount. I will say all the staff are very friendly, professional, and proficient. Our food came quickly and we were asked several times if we wanted drink refills. The reasons for the low rating is because of the ingredient portions of the BLT, lack of flavor of the soup, and the small portion of the ice cream. read more

This seemingly quick-stop-spot is full of surprises when you walk in. The renovated, clean, and wood-accented dining area is inviting and comfortable. I paid ten dollars for two large slices of pizza, fries, and a drink. The staff was masked, and very polite. We felt like locals walking in with how we were treated, even though we were passing through. While we were eating, the owner came and checked on us and the food. We had a great conversation about the restaurant's history, his experience running it as a family business, and COVID's impacts. We ate outside at the somewhat new outdoor area, which had picnic tables with umbrellas and small gravel spread around; perfect on a warm day. The menu is classic, and the ice cream is Hersheys brand, with the large coolers and all. Burgers, pizza, wings, chicken, and other staple diner foods are available. We finally had the opportunity to stop at this gem of an eatery! Remodeled last year, the dining area is clean and inviting. The wait staff were excellent - very helpful with the menu as it was our first visit - kind and gracious. The burger/fry combos were exceptional! My husband ordered the double cheeseburger and I ordered the Swiss mushroom. And their 'Ro-Ro' sauce - wow! Bathrooms were clean. Dining area was full of customers when we left at 12:30 and they fulfilled a steady stream of takeout orders. We were in the area for an event and couldn't find anywhere to eat. We stood in line at another local place only to be passed over while they waited on others so we arrived at The Amherst Corner Restaurant wanting some food! We were greeted, ordered and waiting on our food in a matter of minutes. The staff are patient and super nice. It did take about a half an hour for two burgers but the quality of the food and cleanliness of the restaurant are a testament to taking things a bit slower. The burgers were good and the fries were thin-cut and cooked just right. Stop in if you have a few minutes for their home-style food and/or an ice cream (wide array of Hersey's ice cream flavors). read more

Fun little corner diner with the most pleasant couple who own it - they welcomed us immediately and upon finding we were new to the area, pointed out walking trails etc for us. When we took a family member who doesn't eat meat, we were pleasantly surprised to find options for meat-like burgers which tasted great! We love the food and the ice cream?? Super underrated place! Very cozy and very clean, which is greatly appreciated during COVID times. Pretty good variety of food, plus pizza and ice cream. We had a lovely server named Hannah who was very nice and even gave us a few menu recommendations. Would definitely recommend the house made hush puppies myself. My only real complaint is that the door opens towards the handicap ramp, which is a bit annoying but we could work with it.
