I was expecting stronger flavors tasting the rice and strong banana flavors respectively but they tasted practically the same and I did not finish it. This gelato place advertises quality ingredients, and offers a great flavor variety. Some of the flavors are fruity, some with nuts or candy. Some are more classically European, and some are clearly more geared towards Southern Virginia. Ordering a cup still got me a little waffle cone piece, and of the three flavors I sampled, all were excellent. Getting chocolate in sorbet form actually allows the taste of chocolate to come through more purely; vegans won't be disappointed with this flavor. The dairy flavors I got included a matcha (which the label explained was green tea, which some might not have known) which was a very pure flavor and if anything needed a little variety or more mixing with the other flavors than I did, and a peppermint bark, which was a very sweet candy cane flavor with noticeable chocolate bits as well. Given that an actual banana split cost twice as much as the generous cup I got, I doubt I could have finished it, but I bet it would have been great. The flavor was as good as any high-end gelato place in an urban area, and I was quite happy to have found it here. read more

I would not have guessed that this place is a gelateria based on the name alone. Maybe a standard ice cream shop with banana splits - and that's a maybe. But wow... it was gelato - and that's not what blew me away. What blew me away is that it's far better than at least 90% of the gelato I've had in Washington, DC area (I can't think of any at the moment that beats this place in DC proper). It's THAT good! Ice cream in the cold weather doesn't sound like a good idea but Split Banana was worth it! I got the Cocoa Ancho which is very similar to mexican chocolate drinks I've had. The cocoa chocolate flavor is super rich and thick, while the cinnamon and ancho pepper give it a nice fragrance and spicy aftertaste. Not a lot of places have it so I was really happy when I got it! The butter pecan was also pretty good! I love how their ice cream isn't overly sweet, so it allows you to actually taste the flavors. Wow, I randomly stopped here on a road trip and it was a delightful cool treat after a long slog of a drive. The staff was patient as I tasted and took a while to make my flavor pick. A very simple menu with local and fresh gelato with flavors that change daily. The gals inside were friendly and I tasted about half of the daily flavors before I settled on the ones I wanted. They have 4 sizes with a small small being junior which was perfect for me. I mixed a scoop of hazelnut with a scoop of peppermint and it was delicious served with a tiny waffle cone cookie. They have sundaes and coffee drinks and plenty of seats inside to enjoy. A list on the back wall shows most of their natural ingredients and where they come from with almost all being around Virginia. A nice touch and it impressed me. Parking is mostly street parallel just outside as this is located right in the heart of old downtown by the police parking area. There is a garage about two blocks away. read more

They offer a rotating menu of flavors including local favorites such as Virginia Peanut Butter, Sweet Cream, and Cherry Cheesecake! Aside from some local flavors are of course you traditional, vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream, butter pecan, as well as sorbets, gelatos, milk shakes, banana splits, sundaes, and take away items! After enjoying dinner on main street Staunton we walked down the block and popped in to have a quick treat. The girlfriend and I both got mediums with a variety of different flavors for each scoop of gelato. The ice cream tasted good and there was a fair amount of flavors to choose from. The shop had a fair amount of seating with tables and a old fashion ice cream bar to sit at. My girlfriend who has celiac disease and has to eat gluten free foods was fine eating here, obviously stay away from anything that you would expect gluten in such as cookie dough.
