Popped into Pure Eats for breakfast on my last day in Lexington. They serve breakfast all day. First: Get a donut! Or two donuts, like I did! They make the donuts in house, and they are super fresh in the morning. Their classic is the cinnamon sugar donut, but I also got a glazed and both were delicious. That and a cup of black coffee, and breakfast is set. But I thought it would be wise to get some protein, so I also ordered the avocado toast with an over-medium egg. The avocado toast is a single piece of wheat bread (or white bread, if you prefer) with a schmear of herbed cream cheese and mashed avocado (plus an egg if you add one). The avocado toast was good and simple. Pure Eats is housed in a former gas station, and you can tell because it looks like an old fashioned petrol place from the outside. Inside, the dining room is colorful and fun, with table and booth seating, as well as a high-top bar. Appalled is an under statement - not only did they reprimand my 3 year old for her feet being on a cushion (since when is it appropriate to parent someone's kid, if she had asked me I would've gladly told my daughter to move her feet) But we also saw a cockroach on the ground where we were eating. We let them know and all they had to say was "okay thank you". No offer to reimburse or anything. Gross gross gross. read more

Very, very cute burger stop in Lexington. Had a veggie burger and a breakfast burrito (all day breakfast!) and both were delicious. Hardworking young staff is friendly and capable. Might be on the expensive side if you just wanted a bite to go, but worth a sit-down meal in their sunny and welcoming dining room. After much research on where to eat (after a detour to see Stonewall Jackson gravesite), we chose this AWESOME place! Locally grown beef makes an incredible burger (hubby said best ever) and organic homemade chicken salad ("think old church lady recipe" per owner)for me was wow yummy! We were told by the visitors bureau that they had excellent burgers here. Not from area but I would rate this burger so-so. Place is very cramped. Food mostly fried is ok. Service is slow. If you are truly in the mood for a burger this will disappoint. We did like the tallow beef fries. Not a must visit by any stretch of the imagination. read more

Pure Eats is known to be a staple but this place has only disappointed me since moving back home and eating there again. First off the line up to the counter was very awkward and the employees seemed very annoyed I wanted to take my time looking at the menu. Mostly because everything that should just come on a burger or a hotdog is all up charged. I ordered a burger with cheese and fries and it cost me almost $15 which if the burger was any good or a decent size maybe I would be happier with it. My burger paddy was very small way over cooked and the bun was hard and dry. The only good thing we're the fries. Which I had to pay almost $5 bucks for. And the bag had barely any fries in it. The atmosphere in there is so stuffy and you feel like you're eating in a little kids playroom. Overall terrible place the breakfast I've had before as well it was so bad. Worst bagel that they bought probably frozen and same for the biscuits. Don't eat here they try to say the local beef is what is pure but it's not done properly to make it any good. This is a very nice find for donuts in Lexington. It has some parking out front and is within easy walking distance from hotels on Main Street. Six of us went in here on a Sunday morning for some donuts and bagels. THe donuts were excellent! They had a lemon one this day and I love lemon! Diner like restaurants, that specializes in homemade donuts with breakfast served all day. We like to go for a cheeseburger and fries. Ambience is cool, old gas station with pillowed benches and red whitens blue decor. Prices are reasonable. Service is quick, order at the counter. My milkshake was a little thin, so ask for it thicker if that's how you like it. Great location in Lexington, close to Washington and Lee, VMI and downtown. Outdoor seating and beer and wine served too. Small parking lot and street parking... usually never hard to find a spot. Could be a line in prime times. My wife and I were traveling in the area and want to eat local. Small place very close to VMI. cramped inside. I ordered a double burger and my wife got a breakfast biscuit. Food overall was good. I had ordered my burger with ketchup and mayo and it came plain. when asked for the mayo, was told would bring it out. it never came! Absolutely delicious!! I also love the history of the building they work out of, it used to be an old gas station. The outdoor seating area is pretty large and they leave you with lots of room in between as per the social distance guidelines. Out door parking was not too plentiful and some guests had to park across the street. However, it is well worth the walk. I had to order some donuts, because according to their menu that's what they are famous for. I don't even know how to explain what it tasted like, but if I lived closer I would definitely be gaining a lot of weight! The breakfast burrito I ordered was super delicious and not close to any I have had, they really pay attention to details at this establishment. We stopped in for a fresh lunch in our way home from a DC/Williamsburg road trip and were pleasantly surprised! The owner and staff were very kind and easy to talk to. I have several food allergies and was able to enjoy a delicious meal with meat fresh from the farmer/butcher that morning. The bun was soft and held up to the fresh juicy patties and toppings. My husband enjoyed the beef tallow fries and I went with he regular fat fries. They were very fresh and simply seasoned. Such a cool place!!! And the food was great. We had a veggie burger and grilled chicken sandwich with fries. Plenty of seating inside and outside but it was hot so we stayed inside. Even the bathroom was very nice. You order at the counter when you walk in and then they bring you the food. Very friendly and service was quick. We were so happy to have ventured off the highway to find this place. I bought a donut for the road and it was amazing. Finished it before we got to the car. Curt, prompt service. I ordered a BLT and tried to order an a la carte egg on the side, but they don't serve their eggs boiled. Bread on the BLT was over toasted. Good tomatoes are the difference in a good BLT and just food. This was just food. The bread appeared to be just store-bought smallish sandwich bread. The rest of my party ordered breakfast wraps or burritos that they found a little lacking in taste. I managed to borrow hot sauce from another patron's table and everyone put it on their food, even the children. They reported that it was pretty good hot sauce. I didn't know this joint was known for their burgers until my friends and I found ourselves trying to get a good, solid yet simple lunch. Great burgers, nice patio, and yummy donuts. Getting off work was way more important to the crew working here than service. They refused to make milkshakes 30 minutes before closing. Served my kids stale donut sundaes before giving them a chicken finger and 7 fries in a paper bag. When we asked for plates, they said they weren't using dishes (except for the stale donut sundaes bowls) Another customer ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich because they didn't understand the chalkboard menu, the server took their money even though they don't sell a buffalo chicken sandwich. We've coming back to this place for years. We've never come to town without having some Pure Eats! Service has always been great. Some people are friendly than others, but diversity is what makes life rich. The eggs are always fresh. High quality local foods is a definite plus and one reason we keep coming back. I love that they serve on real plates with glass beverage containers. I love the variety and unique offerings. Great vibe inside. Small but accommodating. Plenty of outdoor seating.
