I went in expecting to order a burger but was told I couldn't customize a regular cheeseburger so my burger only had cheese and beef. Not sure where they do that. I could understand if I was ordering one of their specialty burgers but I wasn't. The service wasn't great. The burger was mediocre and the sweet tea was old. Tables dirty, hadn't been wiped, used napkins, trash, food scraps on the floor. Needed sweeping and more appealing look. Inside looked just as dirty with scattered trash on the floor. We consistently have problems with the food, there's always something wrong with the order which in itself is frustrating. Even worse is when you call in to try to have the mistake corrected, apparently that isn't allowed. ‍ I've worked in the food industry and i would have been fired for the attitude and lack of caring but i guess Macado's has given up on politeness and even common courtesy. We decided to give it one last try as it's been a while(place was good when we moved here 5 years ago). Never again wasting our time or money here. Lexington has so many other places with better ambiance and customer service so no need to keep wasting money and having to order food elsewhere as a back up dinner. We loved everything about Macado's (pronounced locally as MacAdoo's), especially after our 7 hour drive from New York. Atmosphere is laid back, beers are cold, refreshing & affordable, the place itself feels homey & historical (it appears to be a large, old home with good, street-view balconies & several dining areas) & the sandwiches are absolutely huge & can be totally personalized, if you choose that option. Our server was friendly, service was unhurried, air conditioning was appreciated & it is in a good location on the main drag. Our large group made a reservation to dine here several months ago. We showed up and the restaurant had canceled our reservation last minute and gave it to another party! The manager was rude and had no reasonable explanation. I have been here before and the food is not very good but we needed a large location. Will not be back! read more

The parents of a college swim team made a reservation for roughly 50 people to have dinner here after a conference championship swim meet. I usually go to the Macado's in Farmville but we stopped at this location for lunch on our way back from Roanoke. Our server, Tori, was very sweet and attentive to our needs. I got the crazy Chris wrap (my usual go to). It was pretty good although I like FarmVille's version better. The Lexington location is in an old historic house which is super cool and gives a relaxed but fun atmosphere. read more

It was a bit late (almost 8pm)- we were hungry and were limited in our restaurant choices since most places closed around that time during the week around here. We are happy that we discovered Macado's! The waitstaff was very friendly and service time was fast. The food was so good! I had the Bobagger sandwich and my SO had the Titanic sandwich. Both were delicious-perhaps the best sandwiches we've ever had. Finally, the added bonus is that they were dog friendly-they had three tables on their front porch-we were fortunate to get one of those tables. They even brought a bowl of water to the table for our pup right as we were seated. We highly recommend Macado's! read more

We stopped in Lexington for a night and found this little gem of a restaurant. My son, a Mac-and-cheese connoisseur, loved the Mac-and-cheese so much that he brought the leftovers ( he had too many snacks on the drive, so wasn't very hungry) to the hotel room because it was so good that he wanted it for breakfast. The next morning, he wolfed it down! As for me, I had the oriental salad and I was pleasantly surprised that it was so good! And my hubby had the fish and chips (he's not a big fish person, but is trying to eat better proteins). he said it was good, which is a nice compliment for him. :) read more

Nice restaurant with a bit of a mom and pop feel. Stopped here on the way back home for dinner tonight and happy we did. The service was friendly and accommodating, seated right away,never had to wait for refills, and the food came out relatively quickly. Portions were definitely satisfactorily large and proved to be a good overall value when looking at prices. My wife got the chef's salad and had to take half of it home! Excellent and love the inside decor with lots of history, Grabbed their Buffalo chicken wrap that was perfect amount of sauce and chicken so filled I couldn't even finish it all decided to go out on a whim and try their potato salad and risky for me I'm a potato salad snob and let me tell this one was awesome very cold toooo. [4.25 Stars] We arrived in Lexington after the typical lunch hour and were quite hungry. Our motel's front desk filled our heads with a half-dozen recommended eateries on Main Street, and we set out on foot. Whether not opening until dinner, being closed on Tuesdays or offering takeout only, we were nearing the end of the Main Street commercial district without finding an available option. Along the route we caught glimpses of the Stonewall Jackson House, Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute-- but still no lunch. As hope was fading we found Macado's, an older looking bar and restaurant with an unmistakeable "college town" vibe. The interior was equal parts quaint and outdated, but servers were welcoming. We would later learn that Macado's is a regional chain of 21 restaurants. The Macado's menu lists at least fifty artisanal, but neither stuffy nor frou-frou sandwich choices, and the selection was difficult. Each sandwich comes with a choice of potato salad, pasta salad, coleslaw, bagged chips or fruit salad. The always charming Ms. G. chose the "Annie Oakley," a mix of mesquite smoked turkey, provolone, ham, coleslaw and tomato on a buttered and grilled croissant. I ordered the "Coney Island;" ham, crisp bacon, melted cheddar and mayo on grilled rye. Each bread portion was oversized and perfectly grilled; crunchy interior without a hint of greasiness. The meats used were of a very high quality, and very generous in their quantities. Together, both sandwiches displayed a level of craftmanship that was truely surprising, and each was excellent. This review is only for the chips & dip. Quite possibly the best homemade chips & dip I have had in a long time. A lot of places make their own chips and try to make them all fancy. They should keep it simple like Macado's. They came out of the kitchen still warm, nice onion flavor on the dip. Basic rule for a restaurant is to have safe and quality food. Macado's failed to do that. My chicken had unusual, soft texture and when I looked it I noticed that parts of my chicken were raw. Fries was very similar-barely fried. The porch dinning was lovely and staff very kond and appologetic but all that is less important from (probably frozen) having food mot prepared proerly. First let me say if a place is crowded you may have to wait a little longer for your meal. I never understand why people mark a restaurant lower due to being crowded. Macado's welcomes everyone. When we went to Macado's and the business was busy. We did wait 5-10 minutes for a table but that was expected. Our drink order arrived promptly and our sandwiches came out as expected. I was having a craving for Onion soup which I ordered and it was great. Overall we had great service. I did request a refill on my tea which promptly arrive. We have visited this location for many years and there was a dramatic improvement in our visit on Tuesday, 12-29-20 at 3:00 p. m.. The food has always been 'okay'. But this time is was superior. In the past, the bar area smelled like spilled beer and now smells like food cooking in the kitchen and 'clean.' Robin served us and was friendly, informative and attentive. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger 'special of the day' and an Annie Oakley fancy sandwich with lemon water and a cherry Coca-Cola. Our food came with extra thick crinkle cut fries, a generous portion of redskin potato salad and oversized pickle spears. The food was outstanding in flavor, serving temperature and portion size. Macado's is known for fancy sandwiches and the Annie Oakley did not disappoint. Stacked with smoked turkey, provolone, ham, tomato and coleslaw on a toasted croissant, the tomato and coleslaw added flavor without adding a wet mess. pickle spears were longer and cut to 1/4 of the pickle this time instead of the thinner 1/8. The servers wore masks and tables were spaced for social distancing. Menus were online and on paper. I did not notice a hand sanitizing station. And since staff opened the door for us, we may have missed the required postings about wearing a mask. On street parking can sometimes be a bit tricky. Today, we were able to park in front of the restaurant. The building is known as the historic Wilson Walker House. There are five or six steps to enter the building. Dining is available outdoors on the front porch, and inside on the first floor bar area and second floor tables and booth area. My mother remembers when the building housed student apartments.
