Classic small town bar. Good people, good times. There's a pool table and a jukebox and I have no complaints.

Plenty of parking on street and on side street area in front of water. Skip the franchise places and head on over to this quaint locally ran restaurant. They have indoor seating, outdoor seating, and a small bar area. They do have ice cream and milkshakes when you enter. You can pick out your dessert before your meal. There is a bar with beet on draft, canned/bottled alcoholic drinks, and even wine. The menu offers a variety of choices from burgers, salads, wings, quesadillas, cheese steaks, etc. Lots of options. You will not have a hard time finding something to tempt your tastebuds. We ordered the homemade pork rinds for an app. They came to the table popping!!! So fresh and delish. Highly recommend if you like them. We then ordered The Hunter (cheeseburger with bacon) and wings. The wings were saucy and delicious. The burger was awesome! The roll was pretty fantastic as it was buttered and toasted. We upgraded to onion rings as a side which were great as they weren't heavily breaded. All in all, a terrific meal. The people here make the experience even better. Natalie waited on us and she was very friendly and attentive. John was the other server who was just as equally friendly and attentive as Natalie with his tables. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity you get. Just a fabulous find. Don't pass this one up!!! Show them some love. You won't be sad. PS - tore into the burger before remembering to take a pic (it was just that good)!!

There is a full bar, pop/hip hop music was a bit loud and out of place for the time of day. Kids meals were cheap. I tried the three summer side salads and they were okay, broccoli salad was good, the potato salad was thick and super mustard-y, pasta salad was meh. The staff were attentive and friendly but seemed inexperienced. Prices were fair even though for almost $40 after a tip for lunch it sort of felt like I had wasted my money afterwards. The sweet tea was decent but very sweet. There was a large covered outdoor seating area and I think we should have sat out there. I'd definitely recommend running a dehumidifier in there.

The North Star is a clean Virginia roadside diner offering delicious food. My neighbor and I were visiting Buchanan to have his John Deere mower serviced, and we asked the salespeople where we could get a good lunch. The staff unanimously recommended the North Star, but we were cautioned not to order the double-cheeseburger unless we were very hungry. They were right. It is rare to get a burger prepared exactly the way I prefer one (cheese, ketchup, and loaded with grilled onions), and the North Star didn't disappoint. My friend ordered the double-cheeseburger and loved his meal as well. The fries were really good, and reminiscent of New York diner fries. My wife and I have been back more than a few times when we are in the mood for an excellent burger.

The menu is basically burgers and fries and nachos and hot dogs and ice cream. All things delicious to be sure, but not my normal fare. This past weekend however, I was in Buchanan to spend some time with my dad during a weekend trip home and we decided to poke our heads in and have a "snack". We ordered the loaded nachos, carnival fries, and a small side salad for me. The loaded nachos were actually really good - they have ground beef, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos and nacho cheese on them. They were warm and fresh and crispy. My dad devoured them. The carnival fries were amazeballs. I mean, they're the Buchanan carnival fries - need I say more?! Served with a spray bottle for vinegar on the side - YUM. Perfection. The little side salad was fresh and good - sparse - but with really good fresh lettuce, peppers, tomato and onion with crunchy fresh croutons and a choice of dressing. The prices are reasonable - $3-5 for everything and our waitress was adorable and super attentive and friendly. I still didn't get to try a shake here - but maybe one day. Plenty of on-street parking and the inside is decorated like a cute old soda shop complete with the soda fountain bar and a working juke box.

Our server was Angel and she was able to give us, our table of four, some ideas of what was selling well, what was available and what customers seem to be enjoying. She did recommend a Ruben and I was happy to go with that recommendation. Maybe I was tired from the wedding we went to the day before and not fully awake but the Ruben just didn't seem right. It tasted fine there was corned beef, cheese and nice bread. It wasn't until several hours later I realized there was no sauerkraut or thousand Island dressing on it. I asked for mustard to moisten the sandwich a bit and there was none to be had. My partner had the hamburger and enjoyed it, there was ketchup, and the sweet potato fries were very good. The grilled romaine with chicken on the side was well received as was the chicken sandwich. I suggest asking your server what seems to be well received and be sure to check your Ruben. There was a beautiful view of the lake from our dining room table and Angel was very attentive and helpful overall.
