Really fun, "social" environment, with about 100 TVs, think of it as an elevated TGIF/Applebee's/Chili's experience. The food felt premade, but was still tasty, and the sauce on the Calypso chicken sandwich was delicious. The sweet potato waffle fries had a cinnamon sugar dusting on them, which was somewhat odd, but the regular fries were seasoned well, and everything came out pretty expeditiously. The servers were nice and attentive, and there was enough space to spread out without feeling crowded at all. I was also chuckling that my tequila drink with champagne, came out in a champagne glass, which did not fit the vibe of the restaurant, but added to the fun! Great place for March Madness! read more

Just the other day a Lyft driver who found out that I write restaurant reviews for Yelp asked me for a name of a restaurant where he could take his wife to. I suggested 202 Social House. For its wonderful location, relaxing dining environment, diverse menu, wonderful food cooked by exemplary chefs, and exceptional staff customer service and management. Yesterday, I had the privilege of having him as my Lyft driver once again and he told me that he took his wife there like I had suggested and that it has become her favorite restaurant. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. After receiving this feedback from the Lyft driver, I came back for an early dinner on a beautiful Sunny day. When I arrived and announced I had a reservation through Open Table, the young lady host looked it up in the computer, confirmed that I had arrived, and then after asking me, took me to a table close to a window, just as I had requested. My server Meagan, didn't take long to arrive and greet me with a big smile and a warm welcoming attitude. I ordered s Mockjito Mocktail to drink, a small house salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing as appetizer, and the Char-grilled Chicken accompanied by a side of Shrimps as my main entrée. Everything was delicious and priced reasonably. The two chicken breasts were plumpy and juicy, and cooked just right, to perfection retaining that tasty flavor of the grill. I enjoyed looking out the window while I was dining and watching one of their many large screen TVs. My server came to check on me at the appropriate times, and to refill my iced water glass. For dessert I had the Reese's Peanut Butter Pie, my favorite. It was so creamy and tasty, like always. At the end of this wonderful dining experience, I realized all the things that made this restaurant special, deserving of the Lyft driver's wife pick as her favorite restaurant, and of my solid 5 Stars that I'm giving it on this follow-up review. read more

We had a wonderful experience here! The space is quite large and has a good mix of bar and general seating - lots of TVs! We were in town visiting our dear friends and we popped over for some food after going to the Starcade. For parking, we used the deck connected to where the Starcade is and were there for about 3-4 hours and it was only $6. $8 is the max for all day which is incredible. Ok now for the good stuff - the food!! YUM. Truly everything was amazing: Our little girls got the Mac n cheese, grilled cheese with fries and pita cheese pizza - all great! Here is what the adults got: - Patty melt and fries - WOW. Delish. - Fish and chips with tater tots - devoured! - Black and Bleu salad with steak - fresh and awesome - Buffalo chicken flatbread - maybe the best flatbread I've ever tasted. The bread wasn't too thick and had a seasoning that was perfect - the flavor of the Buffalo chicken topping was just amazing. Our server was a real gem and very accommodating! Server seemed like she hated us and her life. I have a dairy allergy which is usually pretty easy to accommodate, but i do understand with the southern cooking it's not always doable, but the server was very rude and unhelpful. I tried to ask her what on the menu she thought i could have and she just stared at me blankly and said "i dunno". Everyone was disappointed with their meal. Chili was cold, fish was overcooked and dry, ingredients were missing, everything was flavorless. Overall very disappointing. It costs nothing to be kind and accommodating. I don't ever really make reviews unless they're positive, but as someone who has a food allergy it's so easy for people to be kind and understanding and that just did not happen here. Didn't get the servers name, but she was white with black eyeliner and we were sitting on the patio it was around 3:00 pm. The only positives were the loaded tater tots and the flatbread. Very solid 4 Star eatery. Quick weekend trip to Roanoke to attend a performance at Bergman Performing Arts Center. From Bergman, it's literally a 2 minute drive to the quaint downtown area full of shops and restaurants and, during the winter holidays, beautiful festive white lights glow at night. We were looking for an impromptu place to eat on a late (9PM-ish) Friday night so we perused Yelp only to get our bearings straight on where the downtown area was and what restaurants we might find there. This place is pretty squarely in the happening area of downtown Roanoke - where Market St SE meets Campbell Ave SW - right where the Roanoke City Market is. Though I see they take reservations (on OpenTable at least), we walked in and were seated immediately no problem - even at 9PM on a Friday night. The place was busy but not insanely so. We were seated at a table in the front area of the restaurant (the open dining area right as you walk in) next to the bank of windows. Loved the table location - you get a view of the street action and the dining area being open and spacious made for an inviting, fun ambience. From the photos on Yelp, there appears to be some other dining areas so seating seems to be plentiful but I'm glad we were out in that main area - ask to be seated there if you see tables available as you walk in. I took pics of the menu - allllllll the menu pages lol - and there's a lot to "digest" in those pages (no pun intended lol). Lots of good stuff - standard bar food fare but also some creative offerings like the Social House BLT $15 (which comes with fries) that my friend ordered. Get this - a classic BLT with a fried egg on toasted sourdough! Gtfo!! Yassssss. It was so good. A big meal for 15 bucks. Try it. The Old Bay Signature Wings appetizer $14 was hearty and substantial. My other buddy had it as his main and ordered it with a side of fries, cooked well done/crispy. A perfect meal. In fact, check out the pics of the wings - meaty, flavorful wings and legs. Service was excellent. Prices are decent. Portion sizes are big. Lots to choose from and based on the dishes we ordered, our meals were high quality, made with fresh ingredients, and hot right out of the kitchen. It's really hard to get all of that right, altogether - but this place achieved that. Bottom line, 202 Social House serves impressively good food and offers good value for the price. We enjoyed ourselves there that night and I would certainly come back again the next time I find myself in Roanoke. read more

Super cute place! Absolutely loved it here and it reminds me a lot of another place but it's attached to a speakeasy which is really cool. They have a few locations where you can eat such as the main hall, then the hall of fame which is separate from the main hall. We thought the food was delicious and the drinks were great as well. Solid pub-grub in downtown Roanoke with a TON of outside seating and nice social distancing to help you feel safe. I came here with a big group of my pod-friends on a cool fall night. The wait staff were extremely accommodating to our group and a joy in general (I want to say her name was Alexa?) she was friendly and constantly checked in on us. The kitchen was pretty backed up that evening and food and drinks came out pretty slowly. The menu has something for everyone and the kitchen was good at modifying our orders for food sensitivities. Salads, flatbreads, tachos and larger protein dishes at very reasonable prices. The highlight was the fall cocktail menu which showcased pretty delicious takes on old fashions (with apple butter); or diabetes inducing martinis with chocolate and pumpkin flavors! We had a customer event at 202 Social House earlier this year and we were able to rent out the entire place which was awesome. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, fast, and attentive. The buffet was amazing - almost everyone complimented it. We were able to take all the leftovers with us and they packed them up neatly for us which we loved. The event planner - Patti - was AMAZING. Very fast in responding to me, super friendly, helped me with making the right buffet item selections, and more. The night was a huge success and we will make sure to return in the future. read more

I came here for a Ferrum College alumni event. I've been here before but our event was in a back room which was extremely nice. The wine selections are awesome. I had a a white wine and it was happy hour. They have appetizers such as loaded tots, fries, fried oysters for a good price. Lovely outdoor seating in the most scenic downtown area in Roanoke. Food was good too but could use some tweaks. I was very hungry so I ordered the filet mignon topped with bleu cheese and asparagus. The bleu cheese and parts of the steak were good but the outside was black and the whole midsection was raw. I ordered medium rare and it was very thick so they probably had a hard time. If they had cooked it at a lower temperature longer it would have been better. Server was nice but not super attentive. She never brought salt and pepper to the table. I would go back though. I came here for my birthday on a Wednesday and they sat us down and it took like 15+ minutes for someone to even come and ask if someone had helped us and she ended up being our waitress. We ordered the buffalo chicken dip which came out fast, but was very disappointed because it had absolutely no flavor. The entree dinner was okay, I got a steak with mac and cheese and smashed potatoes. The mac and cheese was cheesy, but again it had no flavor whatsoever. At the end, I told her it was my birthday and got the cheesecake and was charged for it; I thought most places either gave a free dessert or drink but apparently not here! This is a newer restaurant in downtown Roanoke, with paid parking available in the lot next door for about $6 for the evening. The places decor is nice and likely a 4 star once they get their act together and become better at the game of being a restaurant. I think that it will get better with more practice We went with a party of four and the server was very nice but inexperienced. The appetizer came out pretty quickly and then we waited forever for the next course. The main dishes came out before the salads and I commented to the manager. He did not offer to comp them or offer much of an apology. Either would have been fine but to not acknowledge it was weird. Overall the kitchen and service was really slow. we told them that we had a show to go to in 90 minutes and what should have been an easy breezy meal actually became concerning as we were rushed at the end overall the food was good, and all of the diners enjoyed the courses. Stopping in Roanoke for the evening enroute to NC, we popped into 202 Social House. After reading reviews and articles about the owner, and his desire to provide downtown Roanoke a dining establishment with good food and that appealed to everyone, we decided to pop in for an early dinner. Our server was friendly, however, shortly after taking our order, she was spotted sitting at an outdoor table with a couple, eating and socializing. I should have known when I ordered a mango margarita and was told that they needed to go to the other bar to get the mango mix, that it wasn't going to be good. The cocktail was cloying sweet and tasted more like a Virgin artificial mango ice pop. My husband started with the chili, which was one note without much flavor. The smash burger was edible, but salty. Shrimp tacos were served on a soggy soft tortilla with chopped lettuce, tomato an off putting hot sauce of sorts. The Cobb salad was large and had crispy romaine, however, the "grilled" chicken atop the salad tasted like pre-cut chicken slices that were salted and thrown on a skittle. The salad dressing was cheap and salty, nearly inedible. I don't think I've ever eaten a salad where I had to stop eating after only a few bites. We were looking forward to trying a cute local restaurant in downtown Roanoke, and instead left feeling utterly underwhelmed and like we had ingested our weekly sodium intake in one meal read more

From a stylish-looking restaurant with a dress code, you'd be surprised by the chasm by which 202 misses the mark. Now the restaurant was clean and the staff attentive, but the quality of the food was so poor that nothing could save this place from one star. I ordered the Ultimate Grilled Cheese, which is supposed to be a grilled cheese sandwich featuring Mac and cheese with bacon as toppings on sourdough with tomato soup on the side. Keep in mind the name...ULTIMATE....GRILLED....CHEESE. What arrived on my plate was two slices of generic, pre-cut grocery store "sourdough"...which were toasted, not grilled. As for toppings, the bread was home to a spoonful of the Gordon's Food Service generic Mac and cheese (the kind of stuff that comes in gallon cans, lasts 3 years, whose only ingredient that comes relatively close to something that came from a cow is "cheese flavoring", and is used at soup kitchens). Embedded in the slop was two overcooked slices of bacon which had the consistency of a leather tongue from an old shoe. The "tomato soup" was really just marinara sauce with some Parmesan sprinkled on top. A grilled cheese sandwich without cheese and which wasn't grilled...but I will say I wasn't left down by the "ultimate", just mislead. I assumed ultimate meant "the highest achieving", but there is another definition. Ultimate can also mean "final", which I think was far more accurate because if you order this it will be the final meal you ever eat here. read more

Not a great experience. Based on the Yelp reviews, we were cautious but hopeful. We shouldn't have been. If you just need a place for a quick bite and beer in a fun atmosphere, and don't care about quality, this place might work for you. If you want good food and quality drinks, this is not the place. Starting with the positives. Location...right in town. An easy walk from parking, stores, hotels, and offices. The atmosphere...lively, fun, and busy. Service...fast and friendly. It seemed like we were never more than a couple minutes from a visit by our smiling waitress. Now for the not so positives. We started with cocktails; the 202 and the Mule. Both were not good. The 202 was particularly disappointing. We expected a drink with the establishment's name would be a sure winner. But nope. Disappointing flavor, topped with nearly flat low quality bubbly. We thought we'd switch to beer instead. But when we asked for the beer list, instead of a professional menu we got a hand written piece of greasy paper the waitress carried around in her note book...a list of approximately 10 beers to choose from, that fell into two categories; cheap domestic or IPA. We don't generally enjoy either category. We didn't fare much better with food. We were really hungry, so we ordered a bunch of different things. We started with Cheese Bread, Chili, and Tomato Basil Soup. The Cheese Bread was a winner. But, the soup was just ok and the Chili was not good. It was super sweet, as though someone mixed in corn syrup or a bunch of sugar. We'd never had chili so sweet. We couldn't get thru more than a couple spoonfuls. We moved on to a House Salad and a Salad Wedge. The wedge was fine. The house salad was way out of balance. We ended up using the wedge plate once we'd finished eating the wedge...pulled all the ingredients out of the house salad and then reassembled with proper proportions. Once disassembled, we had about 1 cup of mixed greens, 1 cup tomatoes, and 3/4 cup red onion. After reassembling the greens with a more reasonable proportion of tomatoes and onions, we had a decent salad...and a bunch of leftover tomato and onion. We finished with the Margherita Flatbread, a Quesadilla, and Chicken Tenders. The Flatbread was oddly sweet, but not so much that we couldn't eat it. The Quesadilla was good. The Chicken Tenders were super low quality...pressed meat product with texture that switched back and forth from bite to bite between weirdly mushy to rubbery. We left most of the "chicken" on the plate. In the end we definitely won't be back. There are a lot of places to eat within a few blocks of 202 Social House. We'll try those instead. read more

I was very skeptical about getting the ribeye because if it's not a steakhouse, you never know what you're getting yourself into. So I put my trust in the reviews that were already on Yelp. To my surprise, the ribeye was amazing. Cooked medium rare, it was cooked very well and had great texture & taste. I was very impressed. And I substituted the asparagus with mac & cheese and had mashed potatoes on the side and the combination was amazing. Overall, I enjoyed the dining experience. read more
