A group of two close friends and I meet for dinner once a month, and we take turns choosing the restaurant and paying.Today it was my turn and I chose 202 Social House. I love the ambiance of this place. The inside feels warm and cozy with lots of wood accents, and all the color large screen tvs gives it a festive look. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows, you can enjoy views stretching from the historic City Market Building in downtown Roanoke to Center in the Square. With a reservation for three, two of us arrived on time, and the third joined us at our table shortly after. My favorite server, Damita, was assigned to our table. It was nice to see her again, always so cheerful and eager to make our dining experience pleasant and memorable. She warmly greeted us and pointed out the 2026 Virginia Blue Ridge Restaurant Week Menu. She then took our order. To drink my friends had a Liquid Death (don't worry, it was non-alcoholic), and a Lemonade. I had a N/A Mockjito (my favorite there). To dine we had a Calypso Sandwich and two Chop House Burgers from their reasantly introduced Fall menu. Once again the bartender outdid himself crafting a masterpiece of a Mockjito. When I dine with friends I don't take as many photos to give them all of my attention, but feel free to view all of the photographs posted (most of them mine, from the very first day I dined there). We had a great time catching up on life over a delicious meal. Even the fries with my burger were exceptional. Our server did an excellent job checking on us to make sure everything was to our satisfaction, and kept our water glasses filled throughout the evening. Friday night, walking downtown browsing restaurants and decided to give 202 a try. Sat outside and it was a really nice evening. The table looked like it was dirty, but that was because the epoxy was all chipped. Waitress was fairly prompt, no personality, and didn't know what beers they had. A trip to the bar. When she returned we placed our order- ramen salad for the wife, I had the fish fry. Food was out before we blinked, and before our drinks! My beer was brought out but my wife's water was forgotten- another trip to the bar. A singular 'sorry' and the waitress was gone. Salad was nice, nothing special. Not big or small, but really nothing to recommend it. The fish fry was two filets- one dark brown and one golden brown, no real taste. Not offensive. Sweet potato fries (extra charge) were covered in sugar, but crisp and tasty. Small cup of Cole slaw was tasty. Waitress was not seen again until she brought us the bill- no offer of coffee or dessert. Not a bad experience but not enough to make me come back. What I expected from a big-box downtown Roanoke restaurant. Glad I didn't get the $48 filet!! Not really recommended. read more

Really fun, "social" environment, with about 100 TVs, think of it as an elevated TGIF/Applebee's/Chili's experience. The food felt premade, but was still tasty, and the sauce on the Calypso chicken sandwich was delicious. The sweet potato waffle fries had a cinnamon sugar dusting on them, which was somewhat odd, but the regular fries were seasoned well, and everything came out pretty expeditiously. The servers were nice and attentive, and there was enough space to spread out without feeling crowded at all. I was also chuckling that my tequila drink with champagne, came out in a champagne glass, which did not fit the vibe of the restaurant, but added to the fun! Great place for March Madness! read more

Since when did 202 Social House change their policy about not letting people sit in the dining room to watch football?? We come in almost every Saturday to watch the games and drink, ordering either appetizers or meals. Today we were told (very rudely, I might add) that we could only sit in the bar. The bar was full and there were plenty of open seats in the dining room. Needless to say 202 just lost not only the sales for 8 people today but in the future. read more

Little did my best friend and I know 202 has a hidden speakeasy bar in the back with seasonal drinks. We came right in time for a fall and from the ambience to the flavor profiles of the drinks, which were definitely elevated we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back. read more

Came in on an early Sunday afternoon. Not many people, yet. The waitress was quick with menus and drinks. Wife had a flatbread, her favorite, and I had chicken parmigiana. It was all quite nice. I was glad we came in when we did. I was getting busier by the time we left. Great atmosphere and great food. Perfect. We had a wonderful experience here! The space is quite large and has a good mix of bar and general seating - lots of TVs! We were in town visiting our dear friends and we popped over for some food after going to the Starcade. For parking, we used the deck connected to where the Starcade is and were there for about 3-4 hours and it was only $6. $8 is the max for all day which is incredible. Ok now for the good stuff - the food!! YUM. Truly everything was amazing: Our little girls got the Mac n cheese, grilled cheese with fries and pita cheese pizza - all great! Here is what the adults got: - Patty melt and fries - WOW. Delish. - Fish and chips with tater tots - devoured! - Black and Bleu salad with steak - fresh and awesome - Buffalo chicken flatbread - maybe the best flatbread I've ever tasted. The bread wasn't too thick and had a seasoning that was perfect - the flavor of the Buffalo chicken topping was just amazing. Our server was a real gem and very accommodating! Yesterday, group of us ladies from out of town walk into this restaurant called "202 Social House in Ronoake" and was rudely disrespected. As i was approaching the reservation desk, I heard the manager telling the hostess, he got this. I ask him can he seat us and he told me that our party was too large to seat. I ask what about if we separate our party, and he said, no it's not enough seats and food, than I ask what about 2 to a table and he still didnt want to seat us. 9 African Americans (me n my friends) walked in your restaurant at 1:30 pm on Saturday May 30 2026). and we told the restaurant could not accommodate us because the kitchen was already backed up and the restaurant did not have enough food. Therefore the restaurant should be closing very soon. Also the manager told the hostess as we were walking up "don't worry I'll take of this". That was very disrespectful. Super cute place! Absolutely loved it here and it reminds me a lot of another place but it's attached to a speakeasy which is really cool. They have a few locations where you can eat such as the main hall, then the hall of fame which is separate from the main hall. We thought the food was delicious and the drinks were great as well. Solid pub-grub in downtown Roanoke with a TON of outside seating and nice social distancing to help you feel safe. I came here with a big group of my pod-friends on a cool fall night. The wait staff were extremely accommodating to our group and a joy in general (I want to say her name was Alexa?) she was friendly and constantly checked in on us. The kitchen was pretty backed up that evening and food and drinks came out pretty slowly. The menu has something for everyone and the kitchen was good at modifying our orders for food sensitivities. Salads, flatbreads, tachos and larger protein dishes at very reasonable prices. The highlight was the fall cocktail menu which showcased pretty delicious takes on old fashions (with apple butter); or diabetes inducing martinis with chocolate and pumpkin flavors! Very solid 4 Star eatery. Quick weekend trip to Roanoke to attend a performance at Bergman Performing Arts Center. From Bergman, it's literally a 2 minute drive to the quaint downtown area full of shops and restaurants and, during the winter holidays, beautiful festive white lights glow at night. We were looking for an impromptu place to eat on a late (9PM-ish) Friday night so we perused Yelp only to get our bearings straight on where the downtown area was and what restaurants we might find there. This place is pretty squarely in the happening area of downtown Roanoke - where Market St SE meets Campbell Ave SW - right where the Roanoke City Market is. Though I see they take reservations (on OpenTable at least), we walked in and were seated immediately no problem - even at 9PM on a Friday night. The place was busy but not insanely so. We were seated at a table in the front area of the restaurant (the open dining area right as you walk in) next to the bank of windows. Loved the table location - you get a view of the street action and the dining area being open and spacious made for an inviting, fun ambience. From the photos on Yelp, there appears to be some other dining areas so seating seems to be plentiful but I'm glad we were out in that main area - ask to be seated there if you see tables available as you walk in. I took pics of the menu - allllllll the menu pages lol - and there's a lot to "digest" in those pages (no pun intended lol). Lots of good stuff - standard bar food fare but also some creative offerings like the Social House BLT $15 (which comes with fries) that my friend ordered. Get this - a classic BLT with a fried egg on toasted sourdough! Gtfo!! Yassssss. It was so good. A big meal for 15 bucks. Try it. The Old Bay Signature Wings appetizer $14 was hearty and substantial. My other buddy had it as his main and ordered it with a side of fries, cooked well done/crispy. A perfect meal. In fact, check out the pics of the wings - meaty, flavorful wings and legs. Service was excellent. Prices are decent. Portion sizes are big. Lots to choose from and based on the dishes we ordered, our meals were high quality, made with fresh ingredients, and hot right out of the kitchen. It's really hard to get all of that right, altogether - but this place achieved that. Bottom line, 202 Social House serves impressively good food and offers good value for the price. We enjoyed ourselves there that night and I would certainly come back again the next time I find myself in Roanoke. read more

Server seemed like she hated us and her life. I have a dairy allergy which is usually pretty easy to accommodate, but i do understand with the southern cooking it's not always doable, but the server was very rude and unhelpful. I tried to ask her what on the menu she thought i could have and she just stared at me blankly and said "i dunno". Everyone was disappointed with their meal. Chili was cold, fish was overcooked and dry, ingredients were missing, everything was flavorless. Overall very disappointing. It costs nothing to be kind and accommodating. I don't ever really make reviews unless they're positive, but as someone who has a food allergy it's so easy for people to be kind and understanding and that just did not happen here. Didn't get the servers name, but she was white with black eyeliner and we were sitting on the patio it was around 3:00 pm. The only positives were the loaded tater tots and the flatbread. We had a customer event at 202 Social House earlier this year and we were able to rent out the entire place which was awesome. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, fast, and attentive. The buffet was amazing - almost everyone complimented it. We were able to take all the leftovers with us and they packed them up neatly for us which we loved. The event planner - Patti - was AMAZING. Very fast in responding to me, super friendly, helped me with making the right buffet item selections, and more. The night was a huge success and we will make sure to return in the future. read more

I came here for a Ferrum College alumni event. I've been here before but our event was in a back room which was extremely nice. The wine selections are awesome. I had a a white wine and it was happy hour. They have appetizers such as loaded tots, fries, fried oysters for a good price. Lovely outdoor seating in the most scenic downtown area in Roanoke. Food was good too but could use some tweaks. I was very hungry so I ordered the filet mignon topped with bleu cheese and asparagus. The bleu cheese and parts of the steak were good but the outside was black and the whole midsection was raw. I ordered medium rare and it was very thick so they probably had a hard time. If they had cooked it at a lower temperature longer it would have been better. Server was nice but not super attentive. She never brought salt and pepper to the table. I would go back though. I came here for my birthday on a Wednesday and they sat us down and it took like 15+ minutes for someone to even come and ask if someone had helped us and she ended up being our waitress. We ordered the buffalo chicken dip which came out fast, but was very disappointed because it had absolutely no flavor. The entree dinner was okay, I got a steak with mac and cheese and smashed potatoes. The mac and cheese was cheesy, but again it had no flavor whatsoever. At the end, I told her it was my birthday and got the cheesecake and was charged for it; I thought most places either gave a free dessert or drink but apparently not here!
