Tis forever a treat for me to stay at the Natural Bridge Hotel and dine at the Red Fox Tavern. Lee Ellen is fantastic and waited on me with last evening and today. A other server was held up at her other job, thus Lee Ellen was hustling extra hard. She remained unfazed, pleasant, and helpful. Today I tried the Black Bean Burgereith jalapeño pepper cheese as well as a side of green beans as they were out of both French fries and sweet potato fries. I also ordered their soup of the day which was a tasty cup of black bean soup. The Office was playing on TV with subcaptions and volume off with decent music, non-blaring, in the background. With the chatter of a full Tavern, the noise level was loud yet acceptable and not obnoxious. On June 15, 2026, I had dinner at the red fox tavern while staying at the natural bridge hotel and the food was not good at all. The website claims to have hand-cut steaks. I ordered the ribeye with chef's potato and chef's vegetable. The steak was clearly a frozen steak, and even worse, the chef's potato was instant mashed potatoes. The vegetable was canned green beans covered in minced jarred garlic. My mom ordered chicken tacos and Mac & cheese. The Mac & cheese was hard noodles with dried out cheese. Chicken tacos were chicken in a tortilla with a pre-made coleslaw on top, none of the topping described on the menu. We wanted to say something to the server, but there was only one person working the bar, the dining room, the tavern, and outside. The server was doing her best. Last but not least, gnats were flying everywhere. We felt taken advantage of because we were traveling and relied on the food in the hotel for our meal. read more

Didn't expect much from the less-formal restaurant in the hotel, but we were pleasantly surprised! Very great flavor combos and a friendly atmosphere. He got the Bone-in Pork Chop - the spoon bread was like thicker cheesy grits - yum!, and he loved the chop. I got the Roasted Salmon - it came with mashed sweet potatoes, succotash, and a cajun cream sauce. I don't usually go for things with the word cajun in them, but it wasn't spicy at all, and I sopped up every last bit of it. The salmon was tasty and well cooked. Word of warning: there is bacon in their succotash - it gave it a smoky flavor that worked well with the corn and lima beans, but if you are a pescatarian, you will want to avoid that. It was the server's 50th birthday and we were happy to see her family celebrating there with her since she had to work. I got a lemon cake desert that had cheesecake on top and a raspberry jam crumble thing going on on the bottom. It was good, but hard to eat, as it kept falling apart. :) In a neighborhood without many restaurant options, this place still qualifies as a hidden gem! read more

An atypical Sunday with unexpected demand while somewhat short-staffed. Both restaurant staff and hotel staff were exceptionally personable and nice. First of all,the bartender/ waitress, Chris was AH-mazing! Her humor and service are 100% on point. I love a person that can have some witty banter and give great drink & food recommendations. We only wanted a bottle of wine but our convo was so great we decided to get fried pickles and they were great. Before we left we ordered the Bourbon bread pudding to go so we could enjoy it in the balcony in our rocking chairs. It also was delicious! My husband wanted to take me somewhere different for my birthday and since the choices are limited around the bridge, we decided to go here. I was excited when I walked in. The atmosphere was nice and the waitress behind the bar was pleasant but that is where it ended. I was expecting food cooked by a 5 star chef since the restaurant is located in the historical natural Bridge hotel however received anything but. The prime rib was tough and had grill marks. The "braised" greens tasted like they were just dumped out of a can and warmed up a bit. The corn was the toughest kernels. It tasted like field corn. Please if you are going to charge 5 star prices, for God's sake provide 5 star food and service. read more

The best sweet potato fries I ever had. The cheeseburger did not look impressive but was so juicy and full of flavor I wanted two. The fried chicken with cheese grits was so full of flavor my husband didn't need his dipping sauce. We had to have desert just to see if it was up to the same standards. The bourbon brioche bread pudding was awesome. We also had the blueberry cake. We will definitely be back for breakfast and every time we come here we will be back. read more

I had breakfast at this location and my overall experience was okay. The hostess and waitress were nice and polite. The place is quiet with a few other diners on a Tuesday morning. My food was pretty simple but it was okay for my purpose; I just needed to kill time and I was hungry. I ordered the Belgian waffle without butter, seasonal berries, and water. The waffle was a bit overpriced at $8. It wasn't too thick but I honestly expected the thinner version from this place so no hopes were up. I like the touch of confectioners sugar on top. The bowl of berries consisted of only strawberries. It would have been nice to get maybe some blueberries in there for $6. The amount of sliced strawberries filled the small bowl but $6 is pretty steep. I can buy a package of whole strawberries for that price or less. They unfortunately don't have pure maple syrup; they offer artificial syrup. Sugar free syrup is also available. Overall I wouldn't prefer to return to eat here again but it's good for getting a meal in and hunger out. I'd return if there wasn't a better choice and I'm in this area again. They weren't anything to write home about but they were good. Also took advantage of the special on the 2nd night with $5 margaritas which was also tasty. The place was more on the dressy looking side, but casual wear is more than acceptable. The wood tables were all covered with a red tablecloth and wood accents were everywhere in the restaurant, giving it that dressed up look. It was also quiet and good lighting. The service was on the opposite extreme to the food. The hosts were slow to seat you. During the 2nd night, the host (Faye) would do everything BUT sit the folks coming in the door. She would bus a table and reset the tablecloth and place settings while people were waiting to be seated (and no, it wasn't crowded). The server on the first night was average, but on the 2nd night, it took awhile to get the order, no rolls were delivered and someone else brought out the order (again, not a crowded place). The tavern seemed to get the good servers as they were back and forth with plates of food from the kitchen, walking at a pace that showed they were on top of things. Overall, if you're not in a rush, the food is good and they atmosphere very comforting, but if you're really hungry, try the Pink Cadillac a few miles down the road :-) read more

Just for clarification, we were the only guests at the time of our dinner - but our waitress, Michelle, did not skimp on service, even with our being the only patrons in the place. She walked out to check on us on a regular basis and didn't just ask how we were doing from the bar. Both the appetizer (Cesar Salad) and the main entree (Chicken Marsala) were delicious! To be fair, the vegetable side dish had a touch too much salt. We ordered the Cheesecake to go. The food was served promptly and properly prepared. We would highly recommend this place. read more

This restaurant is high-class redneck. The menu is good in concept but the chef has to be taking this restaurant for a ride or incompetent. Filet was more like undercooked roast beef. The Brussel sprouts were dry and overcooked. The risotto was tasteless. The Caesar salad had Caesar dressing just slopped all over it. Manager was receptive to criticism which was a plus. I just drove to The Red Fox after an entire morning at the Virginia Safari. Yelp has Red Fox open from 3-9 however upon arriving to The Red Fox I found out that they're NOT open and they actually won't be open until 5pm. I informed the lady at the front desk that their website has it listed as opening at 3 and she stated, "Yeah, it hasn't been updated". Waste of time. Family was starving. I'm sure this happens to many many people as there aren't that many food places out here. Hope this helps someone so they don't waste their time too. read more

My wife and I have been coming twice a year for the seafood buffet since our wedding rehearsal dinner in 2007. Each visit was wonderful until this past Friday 3/22/19. Walking in the arrangement was different. No problem. Our server was wonderful the entire evening. That is where it ended. They've always had scallops, seasoned warm shrimp, & seasoned warm salmon in the trays that have a revolving lid. The scallops and seasoned shrimp are no longer there. The seasoned shrimp have been replaced by a bowl of chilled shrimp, none of which are de-veined. The crab legs, which most people coming to a seafood buffet come for, were nothing short of terrible. We arrived at 5:40 and by 7:00 they brought fresh crab legs out once. The thing that bothered me most about the $44.95 per person buffet was the bowl they used to keep the crab legs warm was useless. I'm not sure how, but they were always cold. Not warm, cold. Everyone in the dining area was waiting on fresh crab legs and once they were finally brought out they were also cold as if they brought them out from a chiller. It was obvious they weren't cooking them fresh in the back. The crab legs were also the dirties I've ever eaten. There were so many barnacles on them they were falling on the place and I had them all over my hands cracking them. I asked the hostess out front some questions and she preceded to tell me that the restaurant was under new ownership and management and it was obvious. My wife and I were very disappointed. We decided right then we'd never return. Shenandoah Acres Eatery in Stuarts Draft is now owned by the same family that owned and operated The Old School House and they have the seafood buffet every Friday night. For the prices on their limited menu, things should be better. By "things" I mean the amount of time it takes for a person to get their food considering it's the size of a large living room. I ordered the vegetarian burger and I was pleased to understand they have a variety of toppings. HOWEVER, it literally took almost an hour to get a burger. Seriously? The manager came out and offered free dessert but what the crap? It takes that long to serve food? You'd better go in the kitchen and pick up a spatula. Even our waitress was like WTF. My experience was okay to say the least nothing to brag about. We were seated quickly the hostess was very nice, our server was nice as well! The spinach artichoke dip was pretty good it's $5 to add lump crab meat, it was a little over priced for the Size of it but it was what definitely saved the night! I ordered the pulled pork biscuits w/ a side of steamed broccoli and the hubby ordered shrimp/scallop pasta w/ Alfredo sauce. The Steamed broccoli was awfully dry and seemed kind of old, pulled pork was burnt had to drown it in store bought bbq sauce to eat it. It said it had a vinegar base on it but did not get the vinegar flavor at all. My plate was $10 and the portions were decently sized for its price, now my husbands meal was a horrible rip off, he basically ordered a Alfredo soup w/ noddles and seafood because that is what he got. His plate was $18 and I was seriously disturbed how lacking in flavor, quality, etc it was. Could've gotten a better meal at cheddars or at home. I don't know if we came on a bad night or if they are missing the head chef or something but for these prices we aren't coming back to find out. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here for dinner last night after a day at the Safari Park. Based on the other reviews, the place sounded a little too upscale for us to walk in covered in llama drool and grain, but there isn't much in the area so we decided to give it a shot. We drove around like idiots for 10 minutes looking for the place before realizing it's in the hotel, so keep that in mind if you aren't familiar with the area lol! We arrived just as they were opening, and were the first ones seated at the bar area. Our server/bartender was fantastic, she quickly got our drinks while making friendly conversation. The place filled up fast, and for a while it was just her running around taking care of everyone until the manager (I'm assuming) showed up to help. Really the whole point of my review is to commend our server on being so awesome, because several other diners were being jerks for no reason at all, yet this girl didn't let it phase her and kept on smiling. I would've smacked someone and walked out (Probably the reason my serving days are over). Even with her dealing with complaints about the ice cream portions, what was playing on the TV, volume of the music, etc, our food came out fresh and right on time and our glasses were refilled before we could empty them, I'm impressed! The food was delicious, prices were fair, and service was outstanding. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal! read more

I would say everything was prefect, but between the amazing service and consistent quality of food from their kitchen, and a historic like atmosphere makes it a 5 star experience. The burgers are a must try. However what sold me was that they were able to take our takeout order even when the kitchen was scheduled to close 10 minutes pior. For this place to be near empty the service was entirely too slow. I ordered coffee and it got cold while I waited for the sugar. AND I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN MY SUGAR. My friends and I sat for almost 20 minutes waiting on someone to come take our order. If we weren't so far from civilization (meaning I don't feel like driving around for food when it's in reach) I would get food from somewhere else. The service is poor and slow. read more

I am currently a guess at the Natural Bridge hotel. I agree with the one customer in a previous review. The time it takes to get your food is ridiculous. The place had one young lady trying to be bartender and waitress. While she was great, it's just to much to ask one person to satisfy this many people. Management needs to show some compassion for the customer instead of worrying about slicing staff at customer expense. Oh by the way never saw a manager anywhere. read more
