Until that one day that you decided to stop, and explore a whole new culinary world. After having been selected as number 4 of the Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at the Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Coach & Four Restaurant, in Roanoke Virginia is a perfect example. At first it was just a large colonial house turned restaurant on Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia. But once I decided to stop and explore it, it has become one of my favorite restaurants in Roanoke, Virginia. Its uniqueness lies not only in its colonial atmosphere and in its classic American cuisine, but primarily in its amazing staff that from the time you walk in begin to make your fine-dining experience one that you'll always remember and cherish dearly. Their refined behavior creates a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere that create unforgettable dining experiences. Today, after having gone through one of the worst snow and ice storms in years, I decided to not allow the icy roads to hold me back, and requested a Lyft to take me there for dinner. As soon as I arrived, the friendly host came out to greet me and take me to a table of my choice. My server from the first time I dined there, happened to recognize me and took me to the booth where I had dined the first time I ever dined there. We discussed a Mocktail for me to drink and she came back with an amazing drink, and a small meatball as an "amuse-bouche," designed to prepare ones palate for the meal. After studying the restaurant's extensive menu, I ordered their Bacon Wrapped Scallops as appetizer. For my main entrée I ordered the Prime Rib Combination that consisted of a generous portion of roasted prime rib served with a delicious lobster tail. For the two sides that came with my main entree, I had their famous tossed salad with their in-house made blue cheese dressing and a loaded baked potato. The scallops were not so big in size but big in flavor and texture. The salad was amazing, as always. The main entrée looked well at first, but when I cut into the prime rib it was too well done to be able to appreciate the flavor of the meat. But my server came by, as promised, to see if the prime rib was cooked to my satisfaction, and when I told her it was too well done for my original request of medium-rare, she gracefully apologized and took it back. Returning shortly with another piece of prime rib more to my liking. For dessert I had a slice of Pecan Pie a la mode, which by the way was amazingly delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for one of the best fine-dining experiences of your life. And am looking forward to returning and ordering ahead of time their Baked Alaska to have for dessert.

Pizzas came out in relative short order and I immediately noticed our pizza was wrong. I pointed out that we didnt have hot red peppers and basil but instead we had green peppers. I dont eat green peppers as they dont sit well with me. I mentioned to my husband and he also noted as did my brothers family that this was wrong. When the waiter eventually returned - we told him we had the wrong pizza. He indicated that he saw it looked different when he brought it out and perhaps the kitchen just subbed out the peppers. I stated That is fine to do - if you check with the consumer first as i dont eat nor like green peppers. And sure i can pick them off but the ratio of peppers to sausage was more than 2-1 and left gaping holes. Waiter left and soon a manager returned. She told me that they buy both red and green hot cherry peppers and thats what this was and left. Sigh. Waiter came back and said we would get 20% off bill and was All ok then. I didnt care at that point. There is no such thing as a hot green cherry pepper - except it is green before it turns red. We also didnt have the basil as the description stated. I was not impressed with the pizza at all - ans then particularly not impressed that they couldnt just be honest that they messed up. I understand mistakes - just own it! Menu has changed and not for the better. A normally very busy place was practically empty. 9 people sitting around doing nothing. Food was mediocre. Upstairs was completely empty. General store was noticeably not stocked as usual. This place is usually busy with motorcyclists and the after church crowd. If it doesn't go back the way things were, they may as well close the doors.

Every bite was delicious, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. The BBQ was just as impressive. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor without being overly salty or dry. You could tell it had been cooked with care. The sides complemented the meal well, making for what should have been an excellent dining experience. If I were judging on the food alone, this would easily be a five-star restaurant. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the overall experience. Great service can elevate a meal, while poor service can overshadow even the best food. That's exactly what happened here. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing, and the quality of the wings and BBQ is reason enough to visit. However, the front-of-house experience needs significant improvement. Friendly, attentive, and timely service should match the quality of the food being served. Of all the times we ate here this by far where the worst service we have ever had. Most of the time the service is impeccable. Tonight it fell short, I always usually leave a tip, but tonight was different. I could bring myself to leave a tip on such poor service. I genuinely hope The Fishin' Pig addresses these issues because the restaurant has tremendous potential. The hubs and I stopped by here and had a biscuit sandwich, a Hot Roast Beef dinner, and one of their famous hand-pattied burgers (which we actually stayed for an additional hour or so, as they weren't serving the burgers until later!). While the biscuit was forgettable, the hot roast beef was so scrumptious! It was so hearty, savory, and stick-to-your-rib deliciousness, and such a comfort meal on a plate! I tend to stick to what I know and go with simple items and wouldn't order anything other than a sandwich or the burger from here. It's simple food with a simple kitchen and it's very good for what it is. But this is not a fancy place. It's a small diner in a small town run by friendly locals. Temper your expectations, if you find yourself here and hungry, it'll hit the spot.
