This is a most amazing restaurant! The chef, his wife, and the small but amazing staff deliver excellent food and service. Ingredients are locally sourced. The menu changes frequently and the offerings are inspired deliciousness. They are able to support most any dietary consideration - vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc. One of the things I like best is the obvious passion for the mission the entire staff has. Drinks and wine service are great. I love the soft music and video show that is unobtrusive and unique. Seating is very limited. It's an amazing little restaurant. A few tables which means the noise level was very comfortable, very rare anymore. . We were greeted warmly, and the waiters kept being attentive of the entire time. We had the cheese appetizer which consisted of three great cheeses from all over the world. We also had the duck and black and scallops for our main entrée. Both were cooked and seasoned well. This was our second time and we had a very nice dinner. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable, the service (by one of the owners, and one other member) was charming and memorable and the food was delicious. What a wonderful experience. From the service to the food to the atmosphere, everything was perfect. My husband and I went for my birthday this evening and truly enjoyed our experience. My ragout was delicious and his steak was perfection. He gave me a little taste and it almost melted in my mouth it was so tender. We also tried to beef fat fries and the pâté - how can you go wrong with choosing that? Delicious! Service was impeccable. The timing was just right and everything came out just as we hoped. They kept our glasses full and we never waited for a thing. Our server said they wanted it to feel like we were having dinner in their living room - and they succeeded. Thank you for a wonderful time. We will be back. Also, just a note about the reviewers on here making political statements (and in my opinion anything under 4 stars is probably just that)- ignore them. The positive reviews are all correct. I believe this restaurant is getting poor reviews for past political issues. My wife and I had a lovely dinner when we went to pick up our Keydet. The vibe is different - like you are at a gastropub bar, but everyone sits at tables close enough to where conversations between tables seem natural. We started with the cheeseboard (excellent) and poached shrimp. The shrimp dish had combinations of flavors that were unique and wonderful. Next round of dishes were the spicy noodles and Maryland Rockfish. I was satisfied but not blown away by the noods, but the fish dish was exquisite. This is a unique dining experience in a fun town which has many restaurants from which to choose. If counters repeat traveler to Lexington, it is definitely worth trying. read more

The absolute worst dining experience me and my family have ever had. My mother-in-law got so severely sick from spoiled turkey and had to go to the emergency room. Then to find out my salad had salmonella in it. We spent over $3000 in medical bills because of the horrible and disgusting food here. When we approached the owner, she just laughed and said "well we do our best, so just deal with it." We are pursuing civil litigation due to these poor standards. In addition, the restaurant is being investigated for multiple unsanitary restaurant conditions. Stay away from this place it'll cost. read more

We were treated like welcomed guests and not just paying customers. We plan on plagiarizing some of the interior design features at Zunzun when we remodel our home. The beef tallow French fries were almost addictive. My blackened ribeye was perfect. And I stopped after on Port Barrel Manhattan but could have easily ordered two more. ZunZun (formally the Red Hen) offers five star meals at two star prices. Entrées run between 24 and $32. There are custom cocktails, a wonderful serving staff sometimes including the Chef Matt. The menu varies about weekly but the food is always a delight. The appetizers are substantial and tasty. Entrées evidently always include a vegetarian option. Seating is limited so reservations are strongly recommended. We've seen many people turned away at the door because they did not have reservations. That said, with a little planning, you can expect a wonderful dining experience in a cozy dining space. Casually dressed diners are welcome, but more formally dressed patrons would not feel out of place. read more

Obviously the "famous" Red Hen who let politics and emotions dictate tolerance for people by setting the example. I wondered how they stayed in business and noticed the renaming, probably to avoid the lingering issues. Happen to be traveling for business in the near area and a few of us stopped by. Now I know inflation hitting everyone, but the value is NOT there at all. Minimum $50 per meal with an adult beverage. Out of the group NO ONE enjoyed the food and add in the perceived lack of value. Service wasn't bad but was along the lines of a Perkins/Denny's type of cafe where they are polite but not personable. I would expect for a higher end restaurant to do it right. End of the day, have no idea how they are still going after cutting out so many customers, even though I did go and didn't get kicked out. Probably should have put on a Trump hate and got kicked out so we didn't have to suffer through the food and then pay for it. read more

Very quaint atmosphere but it is not a whole lot different than the previous restaurant that occupied the same space which was known as The Little Red Hen. I find the food to be ok but not worth the high prices they charge. It's ashame the nearest Cracker Barrel is nearly 40 miles away because you could get good food at a much better price at a Cracker Barrel than what they serve at ZunZun. I don't know how they came up with that name but I do remember there was controversy surrounding the Little Red Hen and they had to come up with a new name. read more
