Great little wine bar. Ambiance is laidback and the food and wine selection amazing. Service is friendly and prices more than fair compared others on the mall. I will also say that thier charcuterie boards are some of the best I have especially when compared to others on the mall. I have been here on a few outings, and have come away happy each time. My girlfriend and I have met here for girls night drinks or snacks before heading to dinner somewhere else, or have come here for a casual dinner after drinks elsewhere. The cocktails I have tried have been well made and balanced with interesting flavors and not too sweet. They have a good wine selection too. The rotating seasonal menu provides something new to try each visit. Over summer they had a life changing peach burrata salad served with crostini and I hope they bring it back every summer forever. The vibe is laid back, you order and pay at counter, and the employees always seem friendly. I normally prefer a red, but most of their options were spicey reds which I dislike. We both found our drinks to be ok. I found their lack of variety in reds to be disappointing. I've been to Tilman's a few times for both lunch and dinner. The food is always excellent. They have a variety of small dishes, similar to tapas but American and Mediterranean. There are also soups, salads and sandwiches. When you want a light meal, one of the dishes may suffice. If you're looking for a substantial meal, order more than one. Everything is good! I had the pork sandwich/Cuban sandwich/something along those lines and it was fantastic. I'm not a huge fan of pickles, but the pickles on this were a necessity to achieve the perfect flavor combo. I loved the carrot slaw, but we did have mixed reviews for it within my lunch group. I spent an early evening walking the Downtown Mall trying different places for cocktails, wine and small bites and this particular joint was my preferred, even though others had a much better cocktail menu. Service here was probably the best out of what I experienced, even though it was far from great. Their menu is imaginative and offered a nice assortment too. I opted for their pickles plate, which had house-made pickled cucumbers, brussel sprouts and beets. I'm not a beet fan at all, but these were good and edible! The brussels were really tasty, as were the cucumber pickles. I liked that the had a "Spritz" section to their menu, always enjoy a nice spritz in the summertime and The Tilman was on-point... refreshing and delicious!! Okay first of all....yum! So many cheeses, meats, non-alcoholic drinks, and wine, how can you go wrong? I came here today for the first time for lunch and got the brie ,fig, and speck crostini small plate; however, I subbed the speck for salami because I'm not a huge prosciutto fan. It was super good. I did pick off the arugula because I'm not a fan (I swear I'm not a super picky eater haha). Regardless, it was all good and the atmosphere was super welcoming. Outstanding place that my sister and I just so happen to stumble upon on our trip to the Charlottesville outdoor mall. What drew me in were all the different cheeses presented behind a glass case. They sell alot of gourmet foods as well such as chocolates, jams, crackers and many other things. We decided to stick around and order the charcuterie board to split among ourselves. All the accompaniments were fresh and delicious. The interior is also very inviting as well and the girls working behind the counter were friendly and got us more bread at our request and were really chill to talk to which is a major plus considering we travelled a long way. This is a great spot located in the Charlottesville downtown mall for sandwiches, soups, cheeses, wine, and snacks. You can choose to sit either inside or outside. I chose to sit outside because the weather is so nice. You order from the counter where menus are provided. You can also grab chips or a bottled drink here to accompany your meal. Upon ordering I was given a little stand with a letter on it indicating my table to the staff. After about 10 or so minutes, my food came out along with a carafe of water. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich which comes with a side. I decided to try the mushroom soup special for my side! The grilled cheese came out melty and gooey with tons of cheese! The bread wasn't over or under grilled! Perfect. The mushroom soup was also delicious but was a bit runny. It came topped with sour cream and chives in a cup size. Other soup size options are available. I picked up a green tea in the bottled drink section which was organic and delicious! The food was great, the inside beautiful, and the staff seemed friendly. They weren't too busy today and I really wanted to ask for salt and pepper for the soup but I dunked my grilled cheese in it and ate it that way! Not only do they have an extensive selection of gourmet snacks and wines, they have food to order that is truly delicious. The back has a bar and tables for dining. My wife and I opted for the front tables since we had our 20-month-old (and it fit a high chair). You order up front and they deliver the food to your table. The food itself was good. My wife ordered the Greek salad and I the fig panini. Both were flavorful. Our baby had the kids grilled cheese and fruit and enjoyed it. The pickle plate we started with and it comes with pickled pickles, beets, and asparagus. We both had drinks and this is where they lacked. My sangria looked beautiful, but was bitter. I credit them for introducing me to one of my new favorite cheeses, Délice de Bourgogne. They serve this French triple creme with hot peach chutney. It's SO good. I've also tried their pickle plate which is great if you're a pickle lover like me! I've always found the staff to be kind and attentive. I had to tear off the cheese oozing out bc my kids were having a sh$& fit about it. Add ham for a dollar. The pimiento cheese with crostini is served cold and good. The fig, prosciutto and mozzarella panini and good and filling. It comes with a carrot salad, that although healthy, it falls flat. Tried to be a good adult and eat it the shizzy, but eventually I had to abort the mission. You can substitute simple greens or a cup of soup for an extra $2. The tomato soup is offered every day or there is a soup of the day to choose from. The tomato soup was tasty. Service was kind of slow even though there weren't too many people dining there around 4 pm. Dunno what that was all about. Overall decent eats that are reasonably priced. read more
