My mother got a 8oz steak with mashed potatoes and fries, she told me that the steak was all gristle and was not really that good, but she looked the mashed potatoes. Single Traveler from Louisville KY on my way to Petersburg VA to visit family. Decided to spend the night in Lexington. Checked into Holiday Inn, Applebee's right next door, GREAT!! or so I thought. I'm a 66 year ole brown man, arrived at the door the lady put me somewhere that appeared out of reach to anyone, it's a wonder they knew I was even there. 20 mins later, no one came by to take my order, offer water, anything, lucky for me I had a book with me to read, quiet night hardly busy, after 33 minutes I got up and walked out. I definitely took the message that I was not welcome. If so, I would never force, holler to anyone in that restaurant to come over and take my order. I'm still wondering why I was never served. The lady who first showed me my table watched me walk right out and said nothing , nothing to me. Applebee's in Lexington, VA will never ever have to worry about this patron ever visiting that' establishment. Lucky for me I found a FANTASTIC Asian restaurant in downtown Lexington, and my dinner was so much that I ended up taking extras with me. Fast to seat us as we were the only customers at 11:30 am but then at about 20 minutes later a lot more customers entered. We had ordered a Southwest Chicken Bowl and the lunch special of 1/2 a sandwich which was a Turkey Club and the house salad. Took 30 minutes for our meals to arrive so we were anxious about the time as we were traveling. The salads were comparable in size and my half sandwich was packed full of meat and veggies. First things: -The four of us wanted to have a nice dinner before our long trip up north. -Waitress was pleasant, no issues there. -Soda was good. Food issues: -The soup we ordered was lukewarm and had to be sent back to be heated up. -The three prime rib dippers had burned meat on all three of the sandwiches we ordered. One was slightly burned, one was slightly more burned and one was nearly completely burned. All three came with a small side cup of "au jus", which wasn't even enough for half the sandwich. I'd complain about it not being au jus, it was like French onion soup, but I think that's a corporate thing. My father's sandwich (the most burnt) had meat on only 2/3 of the sandwich. -My mother's salad had frozen lettuce, that was nearly inedible. -Our appetizer came out AFTER the meals, and the queso that came with it was not very good (probably another corporate thing). Conclusion: After talking to our waitress, we discovered that the cook tonight only works on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, this lackluster dinner disappointed my 73 year old father. Conveniently located out front of the Tesla super chargers in Lexington, this Applebee's was a no brained for lunch as we needed at least 30 minutes to recharge. At noon on a weekday, it was surprisingly empty when we walked in. It started filling up though after we sat down. Maybe Lexingtonians eat lunch later than most. The folks working here were very friendly and polite. After being seated, our drink order was taken as we looked over their menu. On the back were the lunch specials that came with a 12 minute (I think) guarantee. We didn't pay very close attention to that but our food did appear quickly after ordering. I got a soup and salad combination as did my wife. The salad had lots of yummy bits on it but the accompanying ranch dressing was just ok. My tomato soup was bubbling hot but kind of institutional tasting like something I would get in a school cafeteria. Overall our visit was pleasant and the food ok. We've lived here in Lexington 17 years now, and what once was a decent Applebees that we frequented often (once a week or more) has become the worst Applebees we've ever encountered anywhere we travel across the country. Disappointing for the only real place to watch sports in town. They remodeled the place a while ago to make the bar more open, and since then it has gone downhill. The food is mediocre at best, and that isbeing kind. This last visit left our stomachs upset from the soggy quesadilla, and overpriced but small portion of nacho chips with more queso than you could eat (because they skimped on the chips). We stopped in the bar to watch the Sunday night football game, around 8 pm. It was pretty quiet, except for the family sitting at the bar with their screaming (SCREAMING!!!!!!!) baby in a high chair. At...the...bar...not a table. No one could enjoy their drinks or meals. The volume on the sets was turned off, though the games were showing. The bartender has been there for years, and she hasn't gotten better at her job. When several folks asked for the volume to be turned up, and to change the cartoon that was on 3 of the sets to the game, she said she would, but never did. It wasn't just us. Others repeatedly asked why we were watching cartoons. Could she turn the sound up. But no, apparently she couldn't . Or wouldn't. Or didn't care what the customers wanted. So everyone there was forced to listen to canned music and all the gossip of the staff, who were clearly bored with no customers to wait on. Now we recall why we stopped going to this Applebees. It used to be packed, we even had to wait at times. When the owner doesn't care enough to make sure the environment is friendly and the food is good, it's no wonder it's not busy anymore. read more

You get either 2 salads or one appetizer to share and 2 entrees We got salads and chicken The salads were fresh. Large enough to be satisfying. Sunday evening for 3 around 6:30. Place barely had anyone. Hostess told us 10 minute wait. We got seated at 6:54. Waitress was fast! We ordered our drinks and immediately got them. We ordered our food and took about 12 mins to get them. I got the Fiesta Lime Chicken, my husband got the chicken tenders, and my son got the corn dog. My rice was a little dry but other than that it was good. The hostess and having to wait was the worst part. They are pretty well staffed for a Sunday and barely any tables with customers. Applebee's was open late for dinner on Christmas Eve. Many restaurant were already closed by the time we got to town. We had a great waitress by the name or Cord. The menu was pretty extensive and overwhelming for a newbie to Applebee's. Had couple entrees in mind and was undecided with selection the process. She gave good recommendations that made our dining experience enjoyable. What makes a good restaurant is not only the ambiance or the good food but the also the customer service. The salad was fresh. It was a lettuce wedge with blue cheese and sprinkled with Bacon. We had it split in two. Portion big enough for two. Sweet! Had the Savory Cedar Salmon with creamy artichoke spread sitting on a bed of spinach sprinkled with zucchini and potatoes. Like the artichoke spread which give it more flavor to the salmon. Also ordered the Sirloin, they even have smaller portion like 4 oz. Went for the largest size for we were hungry. It came with carrots and other mixed vegetables. They serve $3.00 House Margaritas which is a good deal, but it was a tad sweet. As for desserts, we had the brownie with ice cream. Nice treat with a cup of coffee. We stayed at a hotel across the street after driving all day and were happy to see a restaurant we could easily walk to. Applebee's is Applebee's, right? Wrong!! We should've just eaten the snack from the back seat of the car. First of all, the place was just plain dirty. We sat next to a window and there was filth and bits of food stuck to the sill and blinds. Built up, not simply stuff from that day that hadn't been cleaned yet. We ordered some apps and a server bought us some small plates and extra silverware actually telling us "don't worry, they're clean. I just took them from the dishwasher myself". I grabbed a plate that had slimy bits of food stuck to it as well as a dirty fork and knife. Our waitress, who really was lovely, was standing behind our table at the waitress stand saw and heard my reaction and was there in a second to remedy it. The apps were actually very good. Chicken quesadillas and mozzarella sticks. It would be extremely hard to mess those up. After being on the road and eating junk all day, I wanted a fairly healthy dinner so I ordered a steak. Not expecting much since it's Applebee's after all but when my plate arrived, I was pretty disgusted. I ordered my steak medium and could tell right away it was well done and overly so at that. The mashed potatoes looked like they'd been squeezed from a tube or bag and were stone cold. The green beans... I can't explain what those were. Frozen obviously. Maybe just cooked in the microwave? Again the waitress heard me and offered me another meal. I asked for a salad and she brought one quickly. It was okay. My Pepsi even tasted strange though. My husband was happy enough with his meal. Applebee's ... it's a chain. Like all chains, some franchises stand out more than others. My friends and I needed a place that would accommodate a large group and one that was open on the later side. Applebee's it was. I ordered the cedar grilled lemon chicken. For an estimated 600 calories, the portion was on the larger side, which was great since I was on the hungry side. Unfortunately, the cedar flavor tasted artificial. That's where my bias fits in. My taste buds were expecting a genuine cedar flavor as one would find in one of the finest seafood establishments. Sorry. My brain just could not get on board with the fake cedar taste. Otherwise, this Applebee's served my group's needs. The server worked hard and kept the drinks coming. However, if their was competition surrounding it, I'm sure it would close down! We were just passing through the area and needed to grab a quick bite. Checked the Yelp app and this establishment had bad reviews! We figured its Applebee's, how bad can it be. Well it was pretty bad! The lettuce was wilted, the apps were burnt and salty, and nobody finished their main entrée. My son went the safe route with chicken fingers and fries, even that was dried out with a ton of salt. Now we expected it to be fried/microwaved food but it was even worse than we could have imagined. The drinks were fine. Soda and beer were not flat. So that is a positive. And the service was good and came out fast. But the apps and main meal came out seconds apart. I hate that!!!! To make things worse the place was filthy. Ceiling tiles were black, food and paper all over dining area floor and the bathrooms were gross. Stalls were nasty and sink was clogged with paper towel. Floor was so wet it was like walking in an ice rink. I don't think an employee has checked the men's restroom in a few days.
