It says a lot for a place to have such a positive effect on an angry customer like me. I was pleased with the variety of selections they offer. I chose the Burrito Chorizo. Wrapped in a large flour tortilla and topped with ranchero sauce & cheese, the fillings were generous and included rice, beans, ground meat and, of course, the namesake chorizo. Served with lettuce and guacamole on the side, the meal was ample and quite tasty. My favorite Mexican restaurants in Texas make their tortillas in-house - the tortilla here had the texture and flavor of pre-prepared. Not a big deal, but I did notice the difference. Because this was a business lunch, I was not able to try one of the key items on which I base my impressions of Mexican restaurants - no margarita for me this visit. The iced tea substitute was just OK. Of course, our meal was preceded with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and crispy, but the salsa lacked any meaningful heat - but, hey, this is Iowa, not Texas. Although not spicy it did have nice flavor. I'd be remiss if I didn't offer kudos to our server, a very pleasant young man who answered all of our questions with ease. Thanks to Los Charros, I am reconsidering my "no Mexican food outside of Texas rule." I liked it. Well done!

I didn't care much for their salsa that was served with chips until the last time I was there. The first two times it tasted more like Italian marinara than Mexican Salsa. But someone must've said something because this last time it was good - slightly spicy, flavorful, and with lots of cilantro (my favorite). The service has been consistently wonderful. The two dinner times I've visited they were so packed it was difficult to find a parking space, but I didn't have to wait to be seated or to be served. Every waiter/waitress has been pleasant, speaks good English, and has been responsive to my needs. I like the fact that although you have a primary server, anyone from their serving team will come over and take dirty dishes, refill your drink, etc. When this place went in I said "Really?! ANOTHER Mexican restaurant in Marshalltown?!" but I'm so glad I tried it. I've tried most of the others and this is a whole new level in freshness, taste, cleanliness, and service. Someone may say "It's not authentic." I can't answer that. But I know it is friendly, delicious, and fairly priced. I miss Jax Steakhouse like most people in town, but I'm glad a great new place has gone in where our memories linger. I hope Plaza Mexico continues to be what it is as I know most new restaurants have trouble maintaining their original appeal.
