This is a whole new level of quality for Marshalltown Mexican restaurants. I've eaten there 3 times so far - a weekday lunch, a weekday dinner, and a Saturday late dinner. I've had one or another of their seafood dishes each time. Sorry, without a menu in front of me I can't say which, but each time I was extremely satisfied. The seafood tastes very fresh, the sauce is awesome, and the guacamole is delicious (careful - it is spicy hot). I didn't care much for their salsa that was served with chips until the last time I was there. The first two times it tasted more like Italian marinara than Mexican Salsa. But someone must've said something because this last time it was good - slightly spicy, flavorful, and with lots of cilantro (my favorite). The service has been consistently wonderful. The two dinner times I've visited they were so packed it was difficult to find a parking space, but I didn't have to wait to be seated or to be served. Every waiter/waitress has been pleasant, speaks good English, and has been responsive to my needs. I like the fact that although you have a primary server, anyone from their serving team will come over and take dirty dishes, refill your drink, etc. When this place went in I said "Really?! ANOTHER Mexican restaurant in Marshalltown?!" but I'm so glad I tried it. I've tried most of the others and this is a whole new level in freshness, taste, cleanliness, and service. Someone may say "It's not authentic." I can't answer that. But I know it is friendly, delicious, and fairly priced. I miss Jax Steakhouse like most people in town, but I'm glad a great new place has gone in where our memories linger. I hope Plaza Mexico continues to be what it is as I know most new restaurants have trouble maintaining their original appeal. read more

Good service makes this place a standout. Margaritas on the rocks is an actual pitcher of margs with ice on the side. Bucket of tecate beers is 5 for 10$. Reasonable prices and clean atmosphere. read more

Good food, poor service....it took 5 minutes to be noticed at the back door (after walking through the restaurant as directed to the hostess stand.) Paid extra for a salad with the carne asada, but couldn't eat it because it delivered with the main course. Had I taken the time to consume the salad, the steak would have been ice cold due to the 10mph wind emanating from the vent above my booth. And soda refills were only offered after the meal was complete & dishes taken away. I wonder what they do here when they're busy! read more

Finally a great sit down Mexican Restaurant in Marshalltown. Not like some of the others in town, this food has much better quality ingredients. They have a great selection of all kinds of dishes. The food is fresh. The meat has a great BBQ flavor. Authentic dishes, not with the nasty cheese and Americanized style. Large portions. Plenty of space for large groups. Service is very fast. Chips and salsa upon arrival. Great selection of drinks with full bar. They bring you a little scoop of ice-cream and fried tortilla that tops off the meal. We had high hopes for this restaurant, but were ultimately disappointed. For starters, the chips and salsa were awful. The chips tasted noticeably rancid... either old oil or stored in an unclean warming bin. The salsa tasted like it was made with marinara sauce. It was odd. Together, the chips and salsa were so bad that my husband wanted to just walk out without ordering. We decided to give the food a try, despite immediately noticing how overpriced the menu items were. We eat a lot of Mexican food and know "good" and "authentic" food, being a Mexican family from Mexico/Texas. This is neither good or authentic. The refried beans were decent (hard to mess up). The taquitos weren't even close to being a taquito and the beef was dry and flavorless. The enchilada was okay, but unremarkable. The sour cream was oddly grainy. Overall, the best part of the meal with the complimentary fried torta with ice cream. The service was horrendous. The younger girl who waited on us needs a lesson or two on waitressing etiquette. Her responses were rude, pushy, and short. She was also uncomfortably close when talking to us, spoke too loudly, and reached over us to grab plates without excusing herself. Overall, a negative, crass attitude just radiated from her. The place could also use a good cleaning. Definitely felt like we went to a dive restaurant.
