I recently had lunch with friends at Applebees. Our server, Carroll was very attentive to our group of seven. She checked on us often to be sure our needs were met. I live in a big city where service is often minimal. It was refreshing to have Carroll there to provide such great service. We were in the restaurant for longer than most patrons and appreciated that Carroll and the manager were so patient and let us stay so long. read more

I was served riblets which were practically ice cold by the time they hit the table. I sent them back and was told I would get fresh ones as soon as they could fire them. A few minutes later, I was brought the same riblets. You could see the place where I had taken a bite earlier. Something smelled burnt, so I turned over the cuts to see an absolutely charred mess. The front of house was great. Our server was nice and attentive and the manager who brought our food and addressed our issues was very nice, professional and apologetic. I've always been around the Marshalltown area and actually worked at this location just around 3 years ago. This location use to be amazing... miss how the previous owner,Doug, tan the place! The bartender, Chelsea, is always a lovely person to be around but everything else kinda sucked this go around. Restaurant was pretty dead and waited about 20 minutes for an appetizer... we weren't brought silverware until after our food was brought out and didn't get silverware or sauce until waiting for Troy, our server, to come back around ten minutes after receiving our main meal. On October 19 we had appetizers and dollaritas the food and drinks were mid but the service was awful our serve Trixie was no where to be found. I didn't receive the extra sauce I paid for and in result ended up with dry pasta. The bread stick was extremely over cooked. $20 crap. I keep thinking next time will be better. I'm done! My husband, brother and I all ordered the classic cheese burger. My husband asked for his burger to be pink and added the applewood smoked bacon. The burgers were dry, and way well done, coated in grease. Feels like a rock sitting in my stomach. Kids ordered off of the kid menu. We'll just say that things were subpar. Our kids who usually eat everything wouldn't even touch the food. If this review was based on service it would be a four. However, we will not be back. read more

Went to Applebees tonight and had a great meal. My wife and I both had the cedar salmon and we both asked for the fish to be left on the grill a little longer than usual. We always order fish this way no matter what resturant we're in. The salad was outstanding and the salmon came out exactly like we wanted. Great flavor and the garlic mashed potatoes were fine. Our waitress (Danielle) was super and stopped several times to make sure we were happy. We did try the $1.00 special hurricane drink for Feb., too sweet for our tastes but we did finish them. Usually I avoid Applebee's at all costs. That being said, there aren't too many other options in Marshalltown that my co-workers could agree on. I was happily surprised by the quality of the meals I ordered. I had the tuscan garden shrimp salad. Overall, it was good! Lots of veggies and flavor. I also had a ginger apple frozen drink... I really liked it but I did not enjoy hearing a waitress talk shit on my drink from across the bar!! LOL she kept going on about how it wasn't good and she would never pay $9 for it. Little did she know I wasn't paying :) but, no one likes to hear the staff complain about what they just ordered. When I waitressed, we at least went to the kitchen or waited for customers to leave before we talked shit about them or the restaurant! I frequent this place often as I'm traveling for business. I asked the manager politely to put on a specific sports game on the TV she rolled her eyes and was extremely rude about it. I don't appreciate that. To me that's terrible customer service. Bar staff is friendly but manager is very rude. And as I can see from other comments on yelp this is a pattern. read more

The hostess was sitting at the bar when we arrived, she finally glanced up and saw is. She came up to us and said "Wadaya want" I have never been greeted like that before. We were shown to a booth , the table behind us was engaged in a long loud conversation with the waiter. We couldn't hear each other and we were at a two top . I don't want to have to shout at dinner. Terrible wait staff.... my family and I went in at 9:00 p.m. after a round of golf. At 9:37, we walked out because our server hadn't even attempted to take our drink orders. She made eye contact 4 times, and continued to help tables which came in after us, walking past our table several times. Our bill would have easily been $200, and her tip would have been quite nice. She had small section, and our table was in the middle. Others even noticed how she purposely avoided us, although not one of us knew her at all. Went back to Applebee's twice recently.. The food was pretty good this time. I had the steak with stout gravy and enjoyed it Things were up to snuff. My wife had the chicken with gravy and thought it was okay. The tequila lime is still the dish she prefers. The last time I had the fish and chips and substituted a salad for the coleslaw. The coleslaw here is not the best. The salads was crisp but had a lot of the white spines from the head of lettuce in it. My wife had the tequila lime chicken and said it was good. It is to bad when this is about the only game in town. Much prefer to take the trip to Des Moines where the competition is stiffer and a restaurant won't survive with bad food and service. read more

This is an unusually good Applebee's! There was a 10 year span when I first went to this place till the second time. Hey! I haven't had a work order to go to this town in 10 years i'm not going to drive 6 hours to eat at an Applebee's! One thing I did remember from all that time ago the food at this Applebee's is better than any other Applebee's I've ever been to. I've been to a lot of Applebee's. Why? There are a lot of them in the Midwest, they are open late, The food is usually 3 star and thats good enough when I have job that might go 14 hours in a day I don't want to explore for a new restaurant. We hadn't eaten at Applebee's for quite awhile until last night and now I remember why. We had a drink and ordered our food. After 20 minutes I ask the waitress if our food was coming soon. Yes, it should be next. I watched everyone get served that came in after we did and I ask the waitress again. Yes it's coming. After 40 minutes I said I wanted to see a manager. Well he's bringing your food and he did. After about 10 pointed questions he finally said that my steak dinner had been given to another party. Ordered a margarita and cedar plank salmon, baked potato, green beans and house salad. Margarita tasted like it was made from a mix. Server notified me they were out of baked potatoes....it was shortly after 6:00 pm. I asked for garlic mashed potato and that I would like my salad delivered. Salad delivered..and then chicken entree. Told server I ordered salmon..he proceeded to disagree. Manager came..offered to cook a new entree. Since the margarita was awful, they did not have baked potato and didn't deliver the correct entree I declined. I went there the Tuesday before Christmas. It was about 10-1030pm. I witnessed 2 waitresses using profanity at 3 highschool aged boys saying they needed to tip 20%. They said you guys never tip worth a sh.t. They also said something about starving a baby by not tipping 20%. After seeing this we opted for Legends across the street. read more
