Ok food but you're not here for the food. Great place to grab a drink. Outdoor bar on main St in cooperstown is why you stop. Servers are always good and usually have music on weekends. If you are looking for a great meal there are other places in Coop. If you are looking for a great time with friends then check it out. Saying the wait staff is slow is an extreme understatement. We waited 50 minutes for our meal that 100% incorrect all around the table. Out of 11 people at our table, 2 people didn't even get their meals and 5 ended up sick by the end of our horrendous experience. The bathrooms were filthy as a result of all the food poisoning, and lack of cleaning. Tourist Trap. The food was bland. I ordered the chicken wrap sandwich. There was about $1 worth of chicken in the sandwich that sold for $13.00. The french fries were of poor quality. You are paying for being outdoors with lots of TV's and at times live music - the ambiance. They are only open up during the summer so you can see how much profit they make off of the tourists on the meals. read more

Loved the location, and the patio seating. No complaints about service, meals came out correct and in perfect amount of time. We were there mid-afternoon and no wait for a table, but patio was still quite busy. Menu was very small and overpriced. Burgers (only one on menu) were ok, but nothing special for $18.95. My 14 year old's only option for chicken tenders was to order from the children's menu; I asked if there was an option for an adult serving and was flatly told no. Though a good size dog, my son typically eats two. I asked if I could order the meal and pay for a second dog and was told I'd have to order two meals. I wasn't spending $18 for hot dogs. These things seemed odd, considering the baseball theme and this being a family-friendly, casual spot. Based on our experience I think that some tweaks to their menu would have made this a top notch lunch spot when visiting the HOF on a summer day. read more

Popped in after the baseball hall of fame today and was super psyched with the service at the bar... they really put up with our sh*t for the longest time....we noshed on some yummy apps and sampled the local beers....Mindy and Trista the bartenders were so much fun and made our stay memorable !!! My son, grandson, and I dined at the Hardball Café while on a trip from Wisconsin. We all had the best lunch and the best service in a wonderful outdoor setting. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was delicious. If I am able to get back to Cooperstown in the future, I will definitely dine there. Went there last week. Don't sit under the tree by the grease vent as you will get dripped on. My wife and I were at the table and were wondering why there was an odd looking brown drops hitting the table until we discovered it was grease accumulating from the outside vent on the tree. If I could give this zero stars I would. It was awful - burgers were overdone, rolls were stale, soda was almost entirely syrup with no carbonation, and the waitress disappeared after dropping the food, never to return. After finishing our mediocre meal, we waited 10 minutes for the waitress to clean the table or at least give us the check. Three other employees chatted at the hostess station and we were completely ignored by everyone. In disgust, my wife finally asked them to get the waitress so we could get the check. She dropped it on the table and didn't even bother clearing the plates. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

The place is small.. The service there was horrible.. We waited at least 45 min for a burger and wings.. The calamari fries were nothing more than fish sticks.. We had a huge group we were with who Alllll got very sick from the food. Some if the people in the group never even got there meal after waiting well over an hour.. This was a great place for a casual family meal after visiting the Hall of Fame and local shops. We had great, friendly service from the wait staff. No complaints at all. The burgers were awesome & at a reasonable price. We would definitely eat here again! read more

As I prepare for my annual Hall of Fame weekend, I was very surprised by the remarks for the Hard Ball Cafe on Main St. I ate there several times and enjoyed my meal everytime. You are going to run into peak times and may have to wait longer than normal but that can happen at the best restaurants. The owner is a hands on manager and is usually there to assist, the staff are very helpful, they are mostly students working summer jobs earning money for their college tuition. My family has eaten the hamburgers, French fries and spare ribs (which are awesome) and never did anyone of us get sick. Last year new owners took it over and are doing an awesome job remodeling the little cafe. There are five TV's showing different games for your enjoyment. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back this year and eat. Please try it before you read the negative comments, I'm sure you will be glad you did and remember, these are kids working hard to give the best customer service they can. read more
