Let's be honest, most of downtown Cooperstown, NY is a gigantic tourist trap. It's very much like…read morethe town of Niagara Falls. They have a captive audience of bus tours and summer tourists that are visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame, and so the streets are lined with baseball-themed cafés, gift shops, and the usual touristy stuff. They do have some cool local farmers' markets on the weekends, but most everything else is focused on the baseball fans. Guilty as charged... my best friend is a huge New York Yankees fan, and he asked me to bring him back "something" from Cooperstown. As my Dad and I were walking back towards our car we spotted the Where It All Began Bat Company along Main Street. I looked through the front windows and saw displays of full-sized and miniature baseball bats that had been painted and personalized for the various Major League Baseball teams. I went into the shop and looked over the full-sized Rawlings and Louisville Slugger souvenir baseball bats all of which can be personalized by their on-site laser engraver with up to three lines of text. They also have miniature bats, whether bearing a MLB logo or a Cooperstown-themed logo, and those can be painted and also personalized. I got my friend an 18" miniature baseball bat, painted Yankees blue, and engraved with his name and the MLB logo. They were able to show me samples of finished bats so that I'd know what to expect. I was able to pay for the bat, the engraving, and the shipping down to South Florida, which meant one less thing to lug around in my luggage! Glen got the bat within a week, and he was thrilled with this unique gift and conversation starter. His wife has informed me that he hung up over his desk at home, and that she occasionally catches him standing in front of a mirror taking practice swings. Classy gift.....SCORE!!!

There was a young, thick man sitting behind the counter, never got up and glued to his computer and phone. It did not bother him there was someone walking around the store. I received one of the Mets '62 heritage series hats which was a little small and came with a soft brim instead of the firmer brim I was familiar on New Era hats. Clyde responded to my email the very next day and explained that older versions of these hats had softer brims. He then located the next size up in the newer version with the firmer brim and waived the shipping to send it back out to me. I also picked up one of the NY Giants Heritage hats. These are 50% wool and 50% polyester and shrink up nicely after a bit of wear. I definitely prefer these to any of the 100% polyester on field hats from New Era. They are hands down, the best fitting hats I own. And Mickey's Place has, like, all of them. While I have historically ordered from the Hall of Fame store (which also has excellent customer service), the selection at Mickey's Place is excellent. I would definitely recommend shopping here! Looking forward to visiting in person this summer and snagging one of the Brooklyn Dodgers heritage caps.

The Riverwood DOES NOT PAY THE ARTISTS who's products they profit off of…read more We're a small, artist-run company called Cactus Club Paper Goods who create stickers and greeting cards of animals and plants we paint. At the beginning of 2022, Riverwood placed an order with us at a trade show under a net30 agreement (meaning they had 30 days to pay us for the wholesale products they bought). They took a receipt with our terms and conditions. It has now been over a year and we still haven't received payment. We have emailed, called, left voicemails, and used their live chat function on their website for over a year and were completely stone-walled. Last week, we finally got a response... They said they sold our products and didn't communicate or pay us because NYC has seized their assets. We felt bad for their situation so we offered a couple solutions to help them out, including waiving all their late fees. They told us to: "F*** off and get a life". And: "Great I'm done talking you you. Feel free to blast me out there and try to destroy another humans life. We will do the same to you." We don't understand the lack of professionalism and we still need them to pay us. They had every opportunity to return any products for a full refund (we'd even pay the shipping). We invested our time and money to create these products and we need stores to pay us to stay in business. We've been as kind as possible and have given them over a year to work with us, but they decided to be unprofessional and vulgar. Our company is only two people and this is our only livelihood. If they feel they can take advantage of us, I can't imagine who else they feel justified in taking advantage of. When you purchase a product at Riverwood, the artists and companies that made that product are seeing no money and Riverwood is keeping 100% of the profit. This is unethical and very wrong.

The sales clerk was fabulous when…read moreshe asked my son to play a game of "Space" with him because he was a little shy and declined but she won him over by offering him a pair of the smallest dice in the world if he won the game. We did not purchase that game but we did find a bunch of other cool dice to swap out for the plain, boring dice that come with Yahtzee. Everything should have a touch of the original, I think. My son selected a game called "Butts in Space", we have not played it yet but it looks like a hilarious winner. They have toys for people of all ages, something for everyone for sure.
