Cute bookstore on main st. that shares an opening with another nice cafe. This bookstore has an array of well organized books and sections and a lot of miscellaneous tchotchkes. While you should be mindful and squeezing in and out of the isles to avoid knocking into people or items, this is a fun local bookstore that too many cities lack these days. This is the cutest small town bookstore!! The service is incredible, with a clerk asking what you are looking for and offering recommendations. They have a big book selection for all genre readers. They offer other little book accessories, candles, notebooks, and more. It is a little cramped but in the perfect cozy way. I am sure to stop every time I am in the area. read more

My friends took me next door for breakfast and I wandered around here while we were waiting for our order. The two businesses are connected from the inside. I love stores like this that have quirky odds and ends in addition to books. It's awesome to see in an age where you really only have Barnes and Noble. They had bags that looked really interesting, and I didn't have the funds on hand at the time, but took note of the company who made them. There is a fun kids section and I did buy my daughter some fun slipper socks. For myself, a cat magnet. I mean, where else can you find all of those random items? read more

Day before yesterday I made reservations to fly back to the family in New York for Christmas. That it's the time of year when people across the coast must begin planning for the winter fellowship is incredible because it seems as if I was just home for Christmas like five minutes ago but that's the way it is and I'll dwell on it not for a moment more. But the planning did get me to thinking of the places I've visited in Oneonta (Stone-eonta whilst I was in college moons ago down the road), places I've enjoyed, places I intend to darken four months hence. And ... The Green Toad is one such place. It is so cozy, with supple seating surfaces and the coffee and sammich place next door. Staff spotlights the good reads with an objective sense of humor it feels. The bookshelves appear to lean strongly neither right nor left. As with other independent booksellers, they don't have the breadth of offerings that you'll find on your computer, but if you call ahead they'll order what you desire and have it waiting to proffer for a fair price and with a smile. Amazon can take care of the former. I've yet to receive a box with a smile inside. Here's a tip for you. Call the Toad and ask them to order up Daniel Ellsberg's book entitled Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers. Fascinating read on the people who risked everything to make public secrets that once illuminated are said to have weighed heavily in our decision to end the futile destructive engagement in Southeast Asia. For me, Ellsberg's narcissism is outweighed by the lives it saved. If the former motivated the latter, so be it. The story needed to be told. Ellsberg didn't spend the rest of his life behind bars because the law of the land at the time he committed his act of conscience didn't require it. That little oversight has been seen to, as will be attested by Bradley Manning as he serves the 35 year sentence handed down today. All hail to the corporate whistleblower, all hail the neighborhood snitch. But you best not pull the covers off the murder of civilians overseas or what's gone down at Gitmo, you best not hint that Brother is reading your email and photographing your license plates lest you like the idea of living the rest of your days in the pen or in a room at the Moscow airport. There are nuances and details to be sure, facts we'll never learn but if we did perhaps these facts might change our minds. I'm open to that. One thing I can tell you with certainty, as far as the facts that are published are concerned, if it be Christmastime, I'll be picking them up here at the Green Toad. read more

Very cute addition to the City of Oneonta! The Green Toad Bookstore is connected to Latte Lounge. Not all the hours are the same, but when it is open, there is seating inside so you can curl up with a latte and a book. There is a children's section and many locally made items such as soap, bags, and jewelry. There are plenty of books from different genres, fit for people of all ages. The inside of the bookstore is clean, high bookshelves filled with all sorts of items to read, festive, quiet, and usually busy. There is street parking right outside and a lot more free parking in the back in the 3 story parking center. The Green Toad Bookstore carries the common read that SUNY Oneonta has every semester. It is a great place to find a popular book such as Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur or any of the Stephen King books. read more

Cute little bookstore but lacks what the area sorely needs--a selection of current literary and political magazines and journals, like The New York Review of Books, Mother Jones, The New Yorker, etc. A third to half of the store is nicknacks, jewelry and cutesy cards, which can be found elsewhere and take away space that could be used for a larger, better, selection. Especially in a college town, this is disheartening. It is next door to a coffee shop, and the lovely aroma wafts into the shop. read more

I could spend all day here What a great book store. The feeling you get when you walk in is what a book store should feel like. It's packed with hand picked great books not the run of the mill . I have never been to the physical location. I pre-ordered two signed copies of the 1619 Project Book back in September. They were shipped to two separate addresses in Georgia with no issue. My two phone interactions were very pleasant and staff was super helpful as I am not keen on phone transactions. It was smooth and issue free. read more

It's a really, really nice book store. I'm a fan of ebooks (sorry not sorry), but I'll sometimes stop in when I'm walking around Main Street. It's attached to a cafe, which is very convenient. I mostly go here when I need to purchase children's books as gifts. I know my parents shop here often because the store will always order books for them. Although its a small-ish place, you can sit and read. They sell many things other than books, including jewelry, toys, and cards (I love buying cards from here). read more

I used to love visiting this store whenever I visited Oneonta. The last few times I have visited the customer service was very bad. The very last time I witnessed another customer being treated horribly that I was gobsmacked. I don't understand how a small business owner would put up with management and employees treating customers with such disrespect. read more

Having travelled all over tarnation, and always feeling the pull of a new book store when I discover one exists, I can say that the Green Toad ranks up there with some of the best small independents that I have been in. They have a great variety of genres and if you can't find it, they'll order it for you. The staff is friendly and the ambience is perfect for a relaxing good time. They also have unique gifts. The adjoining "Latte Lounge" is a great place for a coffee and a snack. read more
