Gawd; every time I come here I leave pissed off. Every time I come here, I remind myself why I don't come here. When will I remember? Absolute anuses work here - like the other reviewers say - they are dirty, rude, unprofessional, have bad attitudes. Prices are bait-and-switch. For instance, they have the mini tool boxes on sale right now, in a bunch of different colors. Very popular item for Christmas, and have good reviews online because the quality of the item for its price beats online Chinese brands and Snap-On. I pick one up because they are marked down from $20+ to 18.99, then 14.99, and then 12.99. I expect the 12.99 is the "Inside Track" member price, I figure the 14.00 (Biggest font) is the current price. Item rings up 18.99 and I'm like, whoah, isn't that supposed to be 14.99? Cashier hasn't a clue, asks the cashier next aisle over, he responds, that 14.99 is the "Inside Track" price. I ask what the 12.99 price is, he says that's the "Black Friday Inside Track" price. Join ($30/year) and come back Friday and it will be 12.99. So I have to spend $30 to save $6, and come back in three days. No gonna happen. Too, the basics they used to sell are now gone, and the store is a disheveled mess of products, the employees are constantly rolling carts of goods through the too-narrow aisles, blocking access to items. They offer the Heinz 57 varieties of the same tool. Look for 3/8" socket extensions - you will find probably 10 different SKU's of product, because they want to offer a 3-pack, a 6-pack, a 10-pack, impact sets, rainbow-colored sets, and 3-foot-long varieties. How about just cutting back to the top 2- or 3- selling SKUs and sell more, different things? Jack Stands: the fifty different shades take up practically their own aisle. Creepers, so many different varieties it broke my brain. I decided just to repair my 30-year-old existing one. Where's the brake-line-bleeding hose? No longer available.. you have to buy a brake-line bleeding kit. No replacement adapters, no caliper bleed valve replacement covers. But, hey, how about several thousand different flashlights? It used to be I could find so many different oddball things I needed, I seemed to always find what I was looking for, no matter how arcane it was. Not anymore. It's Socket-Set land. You know, HF has been upgrading the quality of the tools they sell over the past couple of decades. They now are on par with the now-defunct Craftsman brand, and way better than Home DipShiat's Kobalt. But why does it have to be such a friggin' anal-invasion-experience to actually go there and try to find something? read more

Purchased a power washer from them and they charged a restocking fee when we returned it--CROOKS!!! Look at their ratings and buyer beware. STAY AWAY FROM THEM--THEY ARE RIP OFFS!!! How do you people hold your head up? read more

Harbor Freight Tools - Most of the water ran out of the handle. This is right out of the box. You're not getting a bargain--you're getting one of their Headaches - Hardware Stores Near Me - Sterling, Virginia

- STAY AWAY - If they sell you a faulty item, they will replace it, or you can return it and pay a 20% restocking fee. You can buy BETTER QUALITY at COMPARABLE prices at Lowes, Home Depot, or Amazon. And if you have to return it with smiling customer service and NO RESTOCKING FEE! I too purchased the power washer that Elle M. purchased. I saw the crappy quality of the faulty power washer and didn't want just a replacement. I emailed two customer service representatives at Harbor Freight corporate and they said the local store manager (his name is TIM) can waive the restocking fee. Tim wouldn't siting a store policy. That isn't the Corporate Policy, just Tim's. He did manage to be firm and polite refusing me the FULL REFUND, even Thow his hands were shaking in anger. While this is a candy store for men who like tools. I advise you to - STAY AWAY = and manage your risk. I suspect they won't be in business much longer. Posting bad customer service reports when deserved is "My Policy". read more

Overall they have a lot of stuff and you can certainly find some good deals here. My husband loves this place, me...not quite as much. Here are my issues: 1. this store doesn't seem conducive to browsing the aisles are narrow and honestly it just feels a bit cramped with all of the inventory they have there 2. its helpful if you know what you are looking for but good luck finding it. 3. also during my visit the person at the check out who had supervisor on his name badge, was too busy to acknowledge me because he was apparently booking a flight while on speaker phone. read more

I love this store , super organized all the inventory is in stock ! Very friendly helpful staff . They have so many things from outdoor lighting to car cleaning supplies . This is a great store for not just men but also women . You can always find what you are looking for . read more

I purchased our ductless airconditioner heater essentials from this store and highly recommend it

Always bargains to be found here. Even at "regular" price (and using a perpetual 20% off coupon), prices are better here than at most hardware stores. Quality has been good for the hand tools and cordless drills I've purchased. As reliable as Craftsman but at half the price. read more

I am moving into my first home this weekend. My father and I drove from Fairfax to your Sterling location to purchase some tools and equipment. The staff was very nice, polite and friendly. The manager was extremely rude. Forget the words "thank you" and "please." He cut off our questions, sent us to exchange items multiple times and genuinely seemed annoyed with our presence. He was abrasive, not interested in helping or selling us stuff and very much not interested in seeing us again at the store. Instead of being helpful or answering questions he was talking over us and reading off a sales script. We spend several 100 dollars today and I don't ever plan to buy anything from you throughout the move or construction, and don't care about the warranty because I would rather go to another store where people are professional. read more

I am not sure whether it is this store in particular or Harbor Freight in general; but when something goes on sale on the website it is not available in the store. The shelves would be fully stocked with similar items and the website would reflect that the item is in stock, but when you get there the on-sale item is a no show. All the employees have to say is if you don't see it, we don't have it and you shouldn't trust the website. I suspect they see the sale items and pull them from the shelves to bait and switch. read more

For folks who have shopped at Harbor Freight before, you know what you're getting. Its the dollar store of hardware stores. Everything is made in China, branded with a HF company name (usually a iconic American city) and sold at a pretty cheap price compared to the brand name stores. But some of the items are cheap for a reason. You won't find anything that heavy duty here. Do your research on their website first- the reviews are usually fairly accurate. For small hand tools or power tools you wont be using very often or for any strenuous tasks, its a great stop. For tools you plan to use all time and need accuracy or precision on, spend a lot more. read more

Wow, this place has such great deals!! They have all kinds of coupons, you can even get free stuff sometimes. It's incredible. I love that it's smaller and less intimidating than a Home Depot or Lowe's. I'm a fan! Things are laid out pretty clearly, but if you have any questions on where to find something, there are people to assist. I had to ask where one of the free items was, and they pointed me in the right direction and there were plenty left. read more

Just went in for a quick trip to buy a chainsaw. I was the only one up by the register. I asked a male employee up front if he knew where the blue tarps were. He said at the end of the store on the right. I was juggling the chainsaw in the box and I asked him if he would help me by grabbing one. He said no. That's where they were. Then as I struggled to put it down, the cashier said I could get cart to put the machine in and go back and get it. If this guy would have helped, I could have simply paid for both and left. But, I ended up having to set it down, go back to the area to get it, come back, struggle to get it from one counter to the other to pay for it. The whole time, this employee was just hanging by the cashier, just looking at the shelf items, not doing anything. This was so unhelpful and to me, disrespectful. He wasn't doing anything or helping anyone. Why couldn't he have helped me? There were three employees gathered there. The cashier, another cashier who was just standing at the machine not helping anyone, and this guy, standing there doing nothing. I will never go back here due to this lack of care for customer help. There's a reason Home Depot and Lowes have such good business. Customer support. read more

Wow this is the second time I try to Harbor freight and the customer service is even gotten worse I got to the counter and the guy told me I was at the wrong end of the counter in a very forceful way. I took my cart pushed it over and left again I just can't believe that this company can't get customerservice right read more

Great store for having lots of inexpensive tools. Clean and friendly staff but avoid any encounters with one male staff weight about 260-300 lbs, 5ft 10 inches-6ft and wears glasses. Had at least 6x encounters with him and he was very very rude...despite me trying to cheer him up. I contemplatrd writing a review but thought this will provide useful info to avoid unpleasant visit. One bad apple hopefully won't ruin for all. Regional/state mgmt...u may want tondo something about it. read more

Tip 1. You get exactly what you pay for. Tip 2. Bring a coupon. I've bought several screwdriver sets, wrench sets, impact sockets, and a couple of power tools here. I cannot stress how much you get what you pay for. Most of the hand tools are fine for light work and small things; but when you start stripping wrenches and screwdrivers, it's time to spend more than 99 cents on your tools. Oh, and the only thing in the entire store that is not made in China is the WD-40. Which happens to be the only name brand thing in the store. read more

If you like walking around a store looking for what you need shop here. I've been there twice, The first time I was looking for a set of brass punches. I was told the are out of them but would be getting more in. He couldn't tell me when. The next time I was in the area. I checked to see if they were in stock. This time another employee told me the don't carry Brass punches. WTF??? So I decided to check out their safes. I asked a lady who I believed was a manager where they were. She ( with an attitude like I was annoying her) told me what isle they were in. And was quick to add they are in boxes .Another words, you can't check them out at all. Needless to say I will never bother going back. From now I will shop somewhere they will appreciate my business. read more

OMG what a bunch of limp wrist reviews. Cashiers weren't friendly? Staff didn't pamper you? Wake up! It's a friggin' tool store, not Neiman Marcus. And yes, everything there is made in China. It's only been like that for the past 40 years... Harbor Freight is definitely the Toys-R-Us for gearheads, woodworkers, DIY's and engineer types. Great selection of all kinds of tools, supplies and then some. Some of their stuff is a waste of money (ie: some saw blades), most is 100% fine for what 95% of people need it for, some is a downright great deal considering the price. I've bought lots of stuff from Harbor Freight over the years and have very rarely been disappointed. read more

I love harbor freight - wasn't a big online fan - glad there are brick and mortars - and they're everywhere - so I think their tools are not the best but I think they're good enough for me - I have a nice collection and it was all right in my price range - I buy stuff I might need as well as stuff I must have - plus I love spending $25.00 a month on casual walk through - tarps - flashlights - solar lights - paint brushes - get the good ones the cheapies are too cheap - anyway go there and have fun !!! Oh read reviews I see some tools are better off from a big box hardware store like H@@@@@ or L&&&&& Hahahahaha read more

I used to like the store but since they invented the "name brands" they have gone down hill. Used to be able to use the percent coupons on anything that didn't already have a coupon. On the coupons now they have so many exclusions there is nothing worth buying. Probably won't be shopping there any longer. Too bad, I used to enjoy shopping there. read more

The staff at this store is great. Was helped by Ray today and tis guy oozes enthusiasm. Made buying new "toys" even better. Glad I don't have to drive in to MD or to Woodbridge any more read more

I've been to many Harbor Freight stores in different cities -- some are good, some are bad.and some are really really bad I'm pleased to say this one is great! Clean. Well lit. Friendly and very helpful customer-oriented staff. It gives the Harbor Freight franchise a good name. I'm glad I don't have to go to the other HF stores in the area because this one is much closer. Great job. Keep up the good work. We'll be back. read more

It is exactly what it is. A tool store. Pretty busy actually. They had a sale. Saw some good deals. Convenient location in a strip mall. It was pretty smelly in there though. Not sure if it's like that all the time but made me want to get in and get out quickly.I was thinking maybe they had a small section of outdoor decor but I didn't see any if they did so I left without a purchase. Not a bad thing but most hardware stores I have been in did so thought I'd check it out. read more

Only 3 stars because the cashier Becky was rude. After spending a few hundred dollars on cheap tools all I would expect is a simple thank you. Nope mad nothing , just plain rude and a bad attitude. Otherwise the sales help are knowledgeable about the products. The store is well organize. -2 stars because of bad Becky. read more

This place it like a veritable Adult Man Playground! Tons of tools to choose from, and many options as well.

Like this place. Its like a mechanics candy store. I used to order from their catalog years ago before the store was there. Now I can examine stuff before buying. Their fliers almost always have a coupon or two that I can use. The employees are very helpful as well. read more

I walked in ready to buy a grinder, a table, and some needed tools. Our American flag just ripped from age and I was looking to replace that too. I found them and plain as day on back was "made in china." Are you kidding me? I know Chinese Freight is famous for that but the American flags too? I was so put off I walked out. I'll get my tools elsewhere. read more

They are running a bogus ad campaign where they send out coupons that read "one coupon per customer day." So I go in with my wife and am told at the register that we can't both use a coupon because we are in the same family, even with separate transactions. The cashier is a long term employee and this is a long term national ad campaign so you know this has come up before. Apparently they are training their cashiers to do everything possible to not honor the coupons. When I let the management know that I would no longer be a patron of their store they attempted to assure me that we could use as many coupons as we had people in our party and all in one transaction too, but clearly that was a back pedal when they were confronted on it. In addition, we went next door to the dollar store and find many of the items that Harbor Freight has advertised as "originally $8.99 now $1.99 As advertised" and of course they were only $1.00 at the dollar store. I also saw several toys in the toy isle that I have seen this season at numerous other stores and Harbor Freight's price was nearly double the prices I've seen elsewhere. Just about everything they sell can be found at other stores for the same or better prices and better brands (higher quality) and if not, then you don't want it anyway because it will break on your first use or shortly thereafter. Harbor Freight is not a store that deserves your business. read more

Some say you get what you pay for but I think the quality of some of their tools are not bad. I have been shopping here for a decade and still use the same tools I got from here at half the cost you would spend at retail hardware stores. read more

Store is well-organized and checkout is efficient. I returned a tool for exchange that was defective, and though it was slightly out of the 90-day warranty (warranties vary by item) they allowed an exchange, when they could have left me stuck with a bad $80 piece of merchandise. For the uninitiated, Harbor Freight is a large nationwide retail and online seller that sells private label merchandise at cut-rate prices. The quality varies, but it is often quite good. IMO a well-run store like this one is preferable to mail order, since you can see products firsthand and try them out right away. read more

The service here is beyond terrible. The cashiers have no courtesy and are actually rude. If you don't want to give your number they act like you shot their dog. They refuse to open up more registers even if the line is ten people long. The prices are the only thing that makes this place shopable. You get what you pay for I guess. read more

While their products are competitively prices, I've had problems with several. The latest is that I bought one of their Predator small engines (their own house brand) and I broke a plastic part. I've tried to get them to tell me where I can get a replacement part and they continually refuse to do so. Essentially their answers have been "Sorry, it's out of warranty so it's your problem not ours." If they care so little about customers that they won't help me find repair parts, then I care so little about them that I won't provide them any business. read more
