To make a long story short, the employees here are so rude & ignorant that I will never shop at a Harbor Freight Tools store again, and I'll be encouraging my friends, family and business partners to avoid this place as well.
Long story: I own a construction company in IL and came to this store to do a quick pickup of a $500 order. When I walked in the door, I told the cashier that I was coming to pick up an order that I had placed over the phone earlier. She asked me which vehicle was mine outside, and I pointed to my car. She scoffed and said, "I don't know why you people show up in these tiny vehicles to pick up anything." Very rude. I told her that I was sure my items would fit in the car just fine, and could they please bring out my order. She proceeded to argue with me, even calling up another girl from the floor. This girl was even worse, arguing with me that the box was "over six feet long" and actually told me that I was "wasting their time"! At this point, I would have liked to have just taken my business elsewhere, but I didn't have time to drive to another store. I asked once again if I could see the box in question, because I knew that it would fit in my vehicle, even if it was six feet long (and it turned out to only be four feet long). The second girl responded, "No, there's no way I'm letting you in our back room!" as though I was some sort of criminal. I asked if she could wheel it out of the back room for me, in that case, and she rolled her eyes at me and said, "I guess so, but I'm going to help out my other customers first. This is just a waste of my time; the box won't fit in your car."
I was left standing there for 20 minutes while the employees glared at me and made rude comments about me trying to fit "huge items" in my "tiny car," for reasons I still do not understand. I just wanted to pay for my order and had to stand there getting insulted for almost a half hour.
The floor salesgirl then made a big show of going to get the box so I could look at it, and must have realized that she was wrong when she wheeled out the 4 foot box, because she was red faced, couldn't look me in the eye, and quickly scurried off. Once the employees realized they were wrong about the box being 'over six feet' and that it would fit in my trunk just fine, they didn't apologize or anything. Most of them ran off, and the cashier just quickly rang my items up and avoided looking me in the eyes.
I noticed the employees were rude to other customers as well. A man checking out in front of me asked if the 4 foot box was his and the cashier rolled her eyes and said, "No, hon, that box is clearly too big to be your car jack. Think about it."
I was floored.
I've honestly never been treated so rudely in a store before in my life, and over something so ridiculous! I'll NEVER shop at Harbor Freight Tools again, and will tell my family, friends and business partners to stay away from this place as well. There's no excuse for employees to act so rude and to be so ignorant of what they're selling. I'm disgusted that I bought anything from this place, but I was pressed for time that day, and I'll certainly never make the mistake of darkening their doorway ever again. I'll take my money to a store that values my business and can handle basic measurements. read more
