Tried to buy a lawnmower twice for a pickup and both times the store had credit card issues and said there browser we were using to place the online order sometimes didn't work. Both times we had an order confirmation and were waiting for an email update. Didn't hear back from the store and had to call to follow up just to learn that the orders never went through. Decided not to try again, the order was over $750.00, and was surprised that the person we spoke with didn't care. Ace the helpful hardware men are alive and well in Batavia. I'm one of those whose handy skills are nonexistent. So, when it came to screwing on some hardware to a recently bought bamboo cabinet I went to Ace in Batavia and was met by Jerry. I told him I was looking for some screws that I would hope be better than the ones that I got with the cabinet. As he was showing me screws that could make the task easier, I asked if he knew anybody who could possibly attach the hardware. He introduced me to Monti who was quick to help. Monti said if I brought in the pieces to the cabinet he could do it. Short of it all in less than an hour my frustration was gone. I thought the service I received at the Batavia Ace Hardware store was long gone since the days of my grandfather, some forty years ago. It may be at most places but in the Batavia Ace Hardware, the helpful hardware men live on. read more

I enjoy walking in this store I guess I always have since grown up with Ace as a kid. They hire lots of elderly people which is great to me even if some slower a bit they give them a chance and let them have a purpose which is beautiful. Oh. Stay away, unless you want to increase your aggravation to Warp 10 In the land of the blind, The one Eye man is king. This is the kind of place, that if you had a YouTube Chanel. And wanted to document, the decay of a business. This store would be a perfect pallet to work with. I picked the store, to purchase craftsman tools after, the craftsman store across the road closed down, as was recommended to me. The level of incompetence is indescribable, unless you explained it as a comedy. The employees are so completely out of touch with any aspect of a hardware store. You can't help but think you're being pranked. I had been in the store previously looking for, parts to a grill years before. And because of previous experiences I brought the part with me, the employee took the part for a weber grill. And started walking around the grill section, holding the part up and walking around trying to find a match. It reminded me of a primate trying to figure out how to get the square, round, triangle, and Starr in to the right peg hole. The last visit, I refuse to go in. I had mentioned to a neighbor that this particular facility filed propane tanks. But I did not want to go through the experience, Of going with her, Because of past experiences. Even if you go in and get the part and get out quick. You have to deal with the check out woman. Who must've been a prison guard in a previous life, as she will interrogate you to a level you didn't think it possible for a person to ask, so many irrelevant questions in such a short time. I made the assumption because she was so bad that she was a new employee. She was happy to inform me that she's been there for years and years. I'm guessing whoever owns the business, has hired a family member with special needs. Back to the propane filling story, she walked in the front door with the empty propane tank to pay to get it filled which happened, on the outside of the building of course. She made it about 15 feet into the door, and then an employee started to scream at her. To put the tank in a cart, put the tank in a cart. No initial contact, no offer to help. Just screaming, like he would do if someone was crossing the road and about to get hit. Employee even though never seeing my friend, assumed somehow. She had gotten the tank filled without previously paying. And was then bringing a full propane tank into the building. And she was afraid, that my friend could've dropped the tank, and somehow even though the tanks are made for such a thing as that. Facility would explode like an 80s diehard movie. My writing doesn't do justice to how unnerved this employee was. It was something, that normally happed. If I need a hardware store, go to the Geneva Ace. It's definitely worth the drive and night and day in both inventory and the skill level and professionalism of the staff. Now I know what you're thinking, it can't really be that bad. And you want to go there and try it, if you do so. I get it, but only do it if you actually go to Geneva afterwards and can see the difference. Otherwise your brain gets so overwhelmed by the incompetence, it will start to think that you were in a Third World. And you will need to correct that as soon as possible by going to the Ace in Geneva. Or probably any other one for that fact, because I can't believe there's another ace hardware in America That is this poorly run read more

I have been buying stuff from Ace Hardware for about 65 years. Bought a defective window fan from Ace for $113.23 and returned to the local store in Batavia IL per Ace instructions. Ace kept $11.12 of our money, they say for shipping. Their policy states if defective, shipping will be returned. Don't buy anything here or you will have big problems! Best go to Home Depot, Menards, Lowes, or Walmart, as they stand behind their products.. read more

I needed help in paint dept to select black paint for front door for our newly sided Williamsburg style colonial. . The young lady who helped me was super knowledgable and found the paint charts that would work. I chose a satin finish black and when I got it home, I realized that it was more of a charcoal gray and didn't match the black shutters. This morning I came back to store and asked her if she could darken the color. She gave me top notch service, remixed my paint at no charge. Just by darkening the color made all the difference! We just used their order-by-phone and pick-up-curb-side service. I placed my order with Lynn and Tom who were both very helpful. We picked up the order in front of the store about a hour later. They had the order ready and a young man quickly loaded it into our car trunk. During this COVID-19 period, this store has provided excellent service and we will certainly be giving them more business in the future. read more

Manager, Chris, was terse, rude and petty. Didn't have the time of day for me or my experience. Would love to see a change in management.

Firstly, I would never recommend a big box store over a locally owned Ace Hardware Store. Never. Secondly, staff is very good assisting your needs, answering questions and providing advice. Thirdly, the cashiers need help focusing on efficiency and not pissing people off. When it takes 5 minutes to shop and fifteen minutes to checkout, that's a problem. This is habitual, perpetual and remarkably consistent. Fourthly, I do not believe management has a clue, therefore no concern! Finally, oust the "Ace Rewards Card"! An outdated concept and a waste of everybody's time! Give me instant savings NOW to keep me as a customer and not paying a cashier in the big box stores! read more

My pool broke a plastic fitting & after I had to run to the Great Escape for one of the fittings, I had to stop in here for the reducer bushing. While in there, an older employee came up & asked if I needed assistance. I replied, " yes I do ", Then he said, " Oh shit ". Really ? I said, " You work here don't you, you asked me if I needed assistance, then you reply with, Oh shit " . Then he proceeded to just stand next to me. I told him, " I am don't want or need your help ". I come here often. You can't get 15 feet inside the door that someone isn't asking you if they can help you find what you are looking for. This store has everything you need, should have or never knew you needed. The store holds everything but isn't so large you need to take a power bar with you for the trek. You know the sorts of stores I'm talking about - orange. If you haven't believed you could find that specific knob, clasp or connector give this place a try. Oh, and you can buy just one or two rather than forced to buy a gross ton just for one - orange. One sour experience... wanted to buy house plant aphid spray. Checked everything very throughly. Asked if someone could double check that I hadn't missed anything. Then he asked someone else to check. They both read each bottle three times to hesitantly agree they didn't have it.
