Walking in they have freezers full of soda, water, and beer. They have a small kitchen for hot food bowls if you are hungry. My sister and I split a salad and a soda. We spent about $15. pretty decent and compared to what the resorts are charging for a soda inside. This is a hidden gem outside. But the salad was big enough for two people. It was nice. The staff behind the counter worked tirelessly to fill the orders so the wait time was extremely small (1-2 minutes). The cashier promptly assisted each person so you were put the door in less than 1 minute. There are limited seating outside but you can use the tables at the Barefoot Bar. Food was decent. Prices were amazing! $30 hamburgers next door at the Hilton Hawaiian Village where we stayed. $7.50 at Happy's, which made me happy. Fried chicken, pizza, all was good, No indoor seating, but Hale Koa hotel outdoor space is an oasis compared to the busy HHV. You do not have to have a military ID to eat there but the hotel serves our armed force personnel. Another tip for HHV visitors, use the Hale Koa parking garage across the street from the Grand Islander. Get a monthly parking pass (unlimited in-out) for less than half the cost of HHV for a week. read more

I went to Happy's for lunch and the staff who was grabbing our food from behind the counter took care of the entire line until it was our turn then the lady looked at us and walked in the back so we waited for several minutes when she returned we had to ask her multiple times to serve us before she did. Later that night I went back for ice cream right before closing time instead of the man at the door letting me know they were closing the door was abruptly slammed in my face right after he let the man in front of us go in. Was staying across the way at Hilton, hubby was hungry so was I, but it was super cold and windy and we didn't want to venture too far for dinner. I remembered watching live music at this hotel and people bringing in food despite that they didn't serve it, figured there must be something nearby and went on a lil adventure. Found this place and yay! Got a hot dog, I just adore hot dogs. Don't even care if statistically one knocks like 30m off your life I'm not trying to live to 100 anyways. Also got some really yummy mac and potato salad and a pulled pork sandwich with fries for hubs. I think total was $25 or so, waited maybe 5m, and everybody working here was super duper nice! Cool little place to stop by esp if you need to feed a family there were lots of choices and plenty for kiddos. I bet it's insanely busy during the day with beach goers but closer to their closing it was fast, convenient, good, and "cheap" (for waikiki) food. But then again I'm just biased for hot dogs! Esp since earlier in the day we drove by a Costco and SOMEONEEEE wouldn't exit the freeway so I could get a $1.50 dog+soda. Can't beat a quick easy meal though! =) read more

This snack bar is located in the Hale Koa Hotel premises and can get pretty cramped if it gets busy. As you walk in there is coffee to the left as well as a check-out counter. Straight ahead is prepackaged food ready to buy and a counter for made to order food. On the other side of the counter that has coffee are refrigerated drinks and next to it are soft drinks in a fountain. In the far corner is some more prepackaged items such as fruit. As you leave is another checkout counter and that is where the soft serve ice cream machine is...hence why it can get pretty crowded as everyone is waiting for the ice cream. This is a really convenient little place located at the Hale Koa Hotel. They open early for breakfast and serve straight through lunch and dinner closing at 9pm. They offer pizza, burgers, sandwiches, fresh fruit, plate lunches, coffee and an assortment of ice cream and desserts. The prices are extremely reasonable for Waikiki and although its a military hotel they were kind enough to open the establishment to civilians. The service is pretty quick depending on how busy they are and in an effort to keep things moving staff interaction with customers is minimal. Friday nights the snack bar is packed because of the fireworks so beware. The food is good and all guests have the military perk of no tax charged.
