My daughter loves the fried vegetable buns. The bun is fluffy and light. I absolutely love the beef rolls. The flavors go well together but it could use more beef. I would not order the beef noodle soup again. Maybe it's just not my flavor. I do see others ordering it. I'm not a fan of the dumplings. The skin is very thick and dumplings are small. I've been on the hunt for a good chicken cold noodle and finally found it! Perfect amount of sesame to garlic, good amount of cucumbers and chicken and perfectly cooked noodle that take in the broth. I loved every bite! My boyfriend got the bean paste noodles and his were great too! Service and quick and great prices. Place is small but quaint. One thing, the owners speak Chinese, you can point to order but it would be easier to have someone with you that can order for you if you need to be specific. read more

Heard about this dish and wanted to try it. Got to the restaurant around 3pm and there were a few tables occupied. The place was cozy. Largest table had 8 chairs and a TV above it, but it was turned off. The only server there welcomed me when I came in, but was on the phone. She gave me a menu and I ordered the dish. When it was brought out, I dove into it, and it was chilled and refreshing. The peanuts, the cucumber, everything mended together deliciously. When I was done with half, I wanted to take the rest to go for my lunch the next day, but the lady was still on the phone. She sat at an unoccupied table and laughed now and then, so I assume it wasn't business. When I was finally noticed, she brought me the bill. I can't believe it was only 10.95! Prices here were great! I wanted to pay cash so I could leave an entire bill for tip, which I did, but I was expecting the usual $15 -$16 total, so she got an almost $10 tip! She was very appreciative, which I love to see whenever I leave big tips. So her happiness made my day. Loved the noodles the next day too. Didn't have to microwave or anything because it was already a cold dish! If I'm craving cold noodles again, I will definitely be back! My all time favorite Chinese restaurant! Seriously my family and I love this hole in the wall so much. The interior is small but the food here is amazing and portion sizes are huge. We always get the same dishes when we come and they never ever disappoint. Lamb casserole ($15.50) - super flavorful and soul warming lamb broth with tofu, glass noodles, lamb meat with green onions and cilantro. A MUST GET! Hot and Sour Mung Bean Jelly ($5.95) - thick mung bean noodles (just tastes like glass noodles) in hot chili sauce. The perfect appetizer to start the meal and I love adding the remaining chili sauce on everything else. Stir fried Sliced potatoes ($9.50) - self explanatory but you can order it cooked with vinegar or without. Comes with sliced carrots and green onions as well. So delicious and always cooked perfectly. Stir fried pig kidney ($11.95) - if you love kidney you'll love this dish! Comes with kidney, celery, wood ear mushrooms, and cooked with chili for a bit of a kick. Service here is typical of what you would expect at any Asian restaurant, but they always quickly accommodate anything we ask for. Happy Noodles has been here in Arcadia as long as I had been here (11 years and counting), but this was probably my first time coming here! Happy noodle is located away from most other Chinese establishment, but that does not mean it is not nearly as good or authentic! I especially loved their noodle soup with pickled vegetable and pork (雪菜肉絲麵), and their beef rolls (牛肉卷餅). I was actually very surprised at how much I loved their beef rolls: it wasn't oily, it was saucy but not too salty, and good beef to cilantro ratio. There were so many other dishes that I wanted to try, their Shan Dong Stuffed Buns, cold appetizers, lamb dishes, etc. Their dishes brings a taste of home and I'm so glad I found this place. So my Wife's Uncle was craving dan dan noodles. I've heard of this particular dish, but have not had the opportunity to try it yet, until now. We picked this place based on the Yelp ratings and reviews, so it should be pretty good. Restaurant was small, with about a dozen tables inside, few tables outside, but not sure if they were for outdoor seating options, or for waiting purposes, they were not set up for use. Parking was even smaller, with just a few spots available, and that's including the handicap spaces. Interior was so so, generic decor, mirrors, pictures of different dishes they offer posted on the walls and the plastic plants and foliage added a nice touch. Employees were nice and attentive. In general, the place looked clean, but our table was sticky, so I'm not sure what was up with that. The food, was just OK. We ordered two different kinds the dumplings, and they both tasted exactly the same, plus both lacked in seasoning, so dipping sauce was a must. The dan dan noodles which is a dry noodle dish and it looked good and harmless, but when you mix it around, all the hot chili oils and spices are hidden at the bottom of the bowl. The first three to four bites were pretty good, good flavor, then after that, your mouth just goes numb from the chili's. After the numbness comes, you don't taste anything anymore, just numbness. It was kind of a bummer that you lose all of those wonderful flavors and seasonings you get at the beginning. Other dishes that we ordered were the combination fried rice, just average. The San Dong noodles with soy bean sauce, kind of salty. The beef roll, average, and another noodle dish, which was just a plain vegetable chow mein which was actually pretty good, flavors were above average. So with taking everything into consideration, 3 stars from me, just OK. Would I come back, most likely not, and not because this place was bad, it's just that there are a lot of restaurants out there that are really good. read more

Love this place for their Dan Dan noodles and three meat dumplings! When I used to live in El Monte I was constantly on the hunt for good Dan Dan noodles. This place didn't take the gold, but it's still top three. Noodles were soft and Szechuan peppers wasn't so overpowering. overall, delicious! The dough used for the dumplings are a little on the chewier side, but I like that they're thick and flavorful. Beef rolls had too much green onions, it's not as good as JTYH. I've also had the vegetarian dumpling with squash, beef noodle soup, and cold cucumber. Cold cucumber is always a must at authentic Chinese spots. The beef noodle soup was a great balance of soup, noodle, and meat. It wasn't as spicy as I thought and was still very tasty as leftovers! WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. Today I came to pick up my to-go order. Every dish we ordered is poor quality, salty, and you can tell the different dishes we ordered used the same exact ingredients when they were supposed to be different. Cherry on the top is when we asked if our pot stickers could be remade. If anyone knows anything about pot stickers they know it's not supposed to look like this. It looks like they barely cooked it. We asked the front desk lady nicely and she told the cook and the cook came out to YELL AT US to tell us how wrong we are and that pot stickers are supposed to look like that. HORRIBLE SERVICE HORRIBLE FOOD. We used to be regulars at this place a long time ago and when we tried it again this time it's safe to say we will never be coming back. They've switched owners here recently. I've been coming here periodically for years. While the food was not amazing, it was decent enough and located in close proximity enough for me to eat here once in awhile. The new ownership group however is an absolute mess. I don't give too many 1 star reviews, but this place just have too many issues to not give them a 1 star. Food: I hate wasting food. I'd eat it even if it wasn't good. This place however served pretty horrible tasting food to a point where I didn't finish the food (rare for me). Dan Dan Noodles - Didn't have ground pork. Had some fake dried pork wannabe meat. Over use of Szechuan peppercorns. The weakest version of this dish I've ever tasted. Dumplings - Packaged dumplings had more flavor than this....wtf? Pan fried buns - Had a huge chinese wine stench to it. Couldn't taste anything but the wine. Chow mein - This one was okay. Nothing special, but not bad. Service: Lady was so angry to see me walk in. Didn't acknowledge my existence for 5 minutes then asked what I wanted to order. Told her I ordered by phone and she walks away for a few more minutes without acknowledgement. Environment: I like hole in the wall joints. Typically it is a sign of good food. How disappointing is this place to not match that expectation. I've been aware of Happy Noodle for quite some time as I've always driven by on the way to Sam's Club, but I haven't had the chance to visit until recently. Their storefront isn't the grandest or newest, and the overall look makes the restaurant feel more like a hole in the wall mom and pop shop; however, I've seen the restaurant being pretty full on weeknights and weekends, so I think they have a pretty loyal customer base. Located right on Lower Azusa and El Monte, Happy Noodle has mostly small tables with several larger ones as well. Parking lot is pretty small and there are signs that state convenient store parking only, so make sure you park in the right spots. Otherwise, street parking is your best bet. Menu has a lot of options, for both meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. They have buns, (pan fried, steamed) dumplings, wontons, cold dishes, soups, entrées to eat with rice, fried rice, noodle soups, and chef favorites. We weren't too sure the differences between the pot stickers and pan fried dumplings, so we went with what the worker recommended us. We saw the table next to us order some large and juicy potstickers, which we decided we'd get as well; however, the worker who told us they had gotten the pork and vegetable dumplings (15 count) actually made a mistake - they had gotten the pork pot stickers (12 count) instead. Oh well. Their dumplings are unique as there's a thin edible outer layer of the dumpling that is attached to all the dumplings. For $7.50, the taste wasn't too bad. I will say that the dumplings are much smaller than the pot stickers. As for the taste, nothing too special and there could have been more flavor in the inside of the dumplings. I liked the skin though as it was quite chewy. Probably would not order the pan fried dumplings again though. Beef roll ($7.95) - I've had some really good beef rolls and some not so great ones, and I think Happy Noodle's beef roll falls towards the lesser end of that spectrum. Coming out of the kitchen, the skin on the beef rolls weren't glistening or a light brown color. They were pretty naked and made it seem like the rolls were not yet ready. There was also a lack of hoisin sauce, which would have really improved the flavor of the dish. Good amount of meat, vegetables, and onions, but the sauce would have really tied it together. That wrapping was a bit too chewy and undercooked in my opinion. Not bad, but I wouldn't order this again either. Braised beef noodle soup ($7.95) - you're able to adjust the spiciness level of the soup, which is nice. We asked if they had different kinds of noodles, and the worker explained that they had the regular thin noodle as well as a thicker hand-pulled noodle. Of course I went with the thicker one - too bad he didn't mention that there was an additional $1 increase in price for the thicker noodle. And we didn't see the sign (in Chinese) on the wall stating that it's a dollar more for the noodles. But they actually were really tasty and perfectly cooked. Loved how al dente the noodles were. But compared to other customers' bowls of noodle soup with the regular noodles, it seemed like they had a never-ending flow of noodles while we finished our bowl quite quickly. So paying more for a lesser amount of noodles - I don't know if I would next time. Soup was good though. For the price, you get several pieces of braised beef, some vegetables, cilantro, and pickled vegetables. The taste of the soup was thick and quite heavy, but after swallowing it down, it left a warm sensation in me, making me feel super satisfied. Very few pieces of beef, but I do have to say that the beef was soft and tender and really flavorful. We ordered our bowl of soup to be less spicy, and I think they executed that perfectly. tl;dr - Will be back to try some other dishes and maybe bring my vegetarian friends here now that I know they offer vegetarian dishes. Loved the beef noodle soup, but definitely want to try other items as well. Credit cards accepted! read more

Happy Noodle has been around for years, I've passed by the restaurant many times. We finally went in and got some take out (baby at home, so takeout is key). We ordered the following: Mapo Tofu - The hubby love mapo tofu. This one has the Szechuan tongue numbing kind of peppers. It was a beautiful presentation even in a to go container. Dan Dan Noodles - Every restaurant makes their own version, so this dish can be hit or miss. You can't miss trying their Dan Dan noodles!! Lamb Casserole (soup) - Such a great soup for a cold day. If you haven't had this type of soup before, it has vermicelli and is super delicious. Their version is hearty and can easily be shared. Beef Noodle Soup - Very good flavor and I would recommend even for take out. Vegetable Dumplings - This is by far the best vegetable dumplings I've ever had because there was egg in the filling. When you get veggie dumplings, some restaurants use mushroom or wood ear. They don't put any, which is great because my hubby is "allergic" to mushrooms. Lamb Dumplings - We got the pan fried version and it was delicious. The filling had carrot with the lamb. I liked these dumplings a lot, but the vegetable dumplings by far were much better in my opinion. If you were like me and have overlooked Happy Noodle, you must come and try them (even if it's for takeout). We can during a busy time and we're advised about a 20 minute wait time for the food, but it was well worth the wait. Although the menu is the same and outwardly the food like looks similar to before, the taste has gone a bit downhill. I recently ordered take out for the Shan Dong stuffed buns, spicy wontons and beef rolls, and none of them are good. The bun breading is nice and doughy like I remember with the slimy gooey interior, but the taste of the meat and shrimp filling is all wrong. I wouldn't order these again. My family buys takeouts from this place sometimes. Their food used to be mediocre but nowadays it tastes pretty gross. I have never used th word "gross" in a restaurant review, but yes, the food tasted gross. Dumpling skin should be slightly aldente and Pan Fried Bun dry and a bit fluffy. Interestingly, BY LOOKING, what I ordered have exactly that - aldente dumpling skin and fluffy bun, but once I bit into them, the skin texture tasted wet, mushy, and started deteriorating. The bun skin turns into small, wet, mushy doughy balls in the mouth. The dumpling skin was weird in a different way - although the skin is wet, but it has a powdery texture. Sounds like an oxymoron but it's the best I can describe. Now the filling - Way too salty! Maybe the cook is trying to cover the not-so-fresh ingredients by using lots of salt, but this attempt on top of what I described earlier make their food unacceptable to me. Pretty mediocre restaurant for Taiwanese food. This restaurant is run down and tables didn't seem clean. We were the first ones there on a Sunday afternoon and there were no other customers during our stay. Unfortunately, the quality of the food won't sell me to return again for a dine-in experience. Went back to happy noodle after so many years. The experience is not too great. The female cashier is terrible rude, like they don't want your business there. The bao taste kind of blend. The price is ok. But would never go back there because how they treat their customer. Why should I spend my money there and endured the terrible treatment. It's not worth it. Update: I went back about a month ago. Seems like they changed owners and wait staff. Some menu items went up in price while some came in smaller portions. Only half of our potstickers were crispy. The other half was still all white. The rest of the food tasted the same as before. One star off because we felt very rushed before we finished our meal. They brought our check, stopped refilling our water/tea and kept asking if we need boxes. I've ordered from this place multiple times off the postmates app as well as dined in with my family. The food is good and service is consistent. It seems family owned so there's only one server and what seems to be 2 cooks in the back. I typically order the Mung bean jelly noodles (YUM!), the mapo tofu (7/10), the preserved cabbage and pork noodle soup (9/10), the beef rolls (7/10) and the pan fried dumplings (9/10)! I honestly just keep coming back for the mung bean noodles, but have enjoyed everything else I've tried! Then when I came home and opened the container they gave me noodles instead of wontons. When I called they blamed it on me and said I should have known. When I asked for refund on item, they said I had to drive back to show them the wrong order. When I said I was disappointed with service, they said okay. They were good! The Lamb Noodle Soup was more on the bland side for me. I had to add chili paste for more flavor. However, my mom really liked this dish. The Spicy Wontons was definitely my favorite out of all 3. Perfect level of spiciness and full of flavor. Why only 2 stars, you ask? FULL OF MSG!!!! I was incredibly thirsty the whole day.
