The food was great but server left off some of the toppings to be included on my salad. Had to go back and ask for them.

So, I'm on the fence about this place. I love the business model and wish more restaurants would focus on clean eating but I feel like H + H is missing a few things. First off, the staff here are marvelous. My girlfriend was torn between two salads and the girl helping us out suggested a create your own bowl that somewhat combed the two. She loved it and felt the young lady hit the nail on the head. I went with the Thai Chicken Crunch and thought it was delicious minus the chicken served in it. I don't discriminate against white or dark meat chicken but please take the fat off of it. We were both totally grossed out by it and if the line had not been so long, I would have said something. Speaking of long lines. The folks making the salads were killing it but there was a major hold up when paying. I do not know how much google pay/apple pay costs to purchase but the owner needs to at least look into it. Finally, for a "health food" place there are no macronutrients listed for anything on their menu, let alone calories. You would think a place like this would proudly displace these numbers. I feel like they have a lot going for them and I would return again but get something without the chicken. read more

This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The staff is always in a great mood, they never fail to make me smile. They're patient with me when I ask questions. They even check on me as I'm eating. The store is super clean. The food always tastes wonderful. It's rare to find a place like this, highly recommend!! read more

A bit pricey, but the Thai chicken crunch salad and the chimichurri steak bowl are both super good! The way they marinate the chicken makes it juicy and flavorful, and the toppings/dressing of the thai chicken crunch salad makes it one of my favorite salads. The chimichurri steak bowl isn't the most healthy since it's not a salad, but it's great for when you want something a bit more hearty. I replace the chipotle ranch with the avocado cilantro dressing which goes really well with the pesto. read more

This is my FAVORITE spot to grab a quick healthy lunch! I'm obsessed with the Bueno Bowl. The staff is always friendly. I only had one poor encounter while picking up an order. I HIGHLY recommend this place! read more

Staff was so friendly. My salad was INCREDIBLE! Gluten free and vegan! Hale Caesar. Would definitely get again.

Super friendly staff and deliciously nutritious food. The food had great flavor with good texture. I got breakfast here and I cannot wait to come back and get lunch next time I'm in town. Also the music selection was stellar. If you want a friendly, hip environment with delicious healthy food, I recommend giving Happy + Hale a try. read more

Priced like every other salad shop but you get a large portion! Often I'll grab a salad for lunch and keep the leftovers for part of dinner. They have some pretty unique drinks, and it's a great spot to come soak up the sunshine with your friends on a nice day read more

They require you to call if you need to request a minor modification to a menu item when you order via an app. However, they refuse to answer the phone. If you go in person, expect rude service. The food is fine, but it's not worth the trouble. read more

Great healthy option in town. Service was friendly and helpful, and it wasn't too packed. Will definitely be back.

Cute interior and healthy (at least seemingly) food, great for instagrams, but really quite overpriced (but then what isnt w avocadoes in their menu?) When picking menu try to stick to safe ones like avocado toast or conventional smoothie names; pokebowl or anything you've not heard of I'd say avoid. Probably the best brunch place around here but then again we're in Durham. read more

Adorable little spot with some delicious bowls. I enjoyed the chimichurri bowl with steak, and ended up taking half home. It may seem pricey but for the amount of food you get it balances out. They had some delicious lemonade and tea options as well. Very trendy and delicious! read more

Ok they're always incredible. The food is really really good, the smoothies tend to be really good (I had one today that was just kinda bland which is unusual but no big deal) and the staff is incredible! I went in today and waited for lentils, and it took a bit longer than they had estimated, and they comped my smoothie and were also just incredibly kind. One of my go-to's in Durham. read more

Stopped by for breakfast with a friend. We both got breakfast wraps. For the price the portion size was pretty good. It was a hearty wrap. But while we were ordering he had no idea what the veggie options were as they weren't listed anywhere, which made the ordering process slightly confusing. Overall the wrap was fairly bland and the proportion of quinoa to veggies were off. But it did the job. read more

I had the Quinoa Bowl. YUM. This full bowl of warm quinoa, black beans, cilantro, feta cheese, onions, avocado, tomatoes, crushed blue chips, and some sweet-ish balsamic dressing is sure to satisfy your hungry. The place itself is very clean very fresh and very appealing. Staff is friendly!!! It's a nice place to stop at to get some healthy fresh food! read more

I love this place. The create-your-own bowl is my go to! The vegan peanut butter brownie is the BOMB

I do like this place but I guess I want more from it somehow. I love a good smoothie bowl but theirs just missed the mark slightly for me. The fruits were fresh and tasty, but the texture of the base was runnier than I like. Overall for the price point I just felt underwhelmed and like I should make this at home. If I'm spending the money to get a smoothie out I am looking for something that would take me a bit more effort than this to whip up on my own. read more

Great salads and bowls. The scramble wrap, incredibull, bida bowl and steak bowl are my favorite items from their menu. The poke is great too, but not a great value compared to Zenfish down the street. read more

The food here is very good and I appreciate the overall healthy California vibe. God knows we need a healthy restaurant in Durham. Our restaurant options are hillbilly garbage. So thank you Happy Hale for coming to Durham, BUT what is the deal with the smaller bowls? When I discovered this place last week I went twice and got a delicious bowl of food for $10. When I returned today Sun, March 12, the bowl is half the size but still $10. I attached a picture I took of last week's bowl (fished it out of my recycling) next to today's bowl. Come on, Happy Hale, if you're going to cut the portion in half don't you think $7 tops is only fair? read more

Love the menu items and all the staff are very friendly. If you're looking for a new addiction the brownies are great.

I want to like HH more than I actually do. This is the last time I ordered the avocado toast. The fried egg in the corner looked bad, tasted worse and was simply unacceptable for more than $10+. Now I make my avocado toast at home. Haven't been back since. read more

It was my first time into the restaurant today. I was looking forward to going here for weeks and finally had the time. I only came in for a smoothie, and what I found was music blaring really loudly though it's only lunchtime, and workers behind the counter having social hour (literally hitting each other with sweatshirts) and not taking a break from their conversations. The place was busy but no line at the counter, however the atmosphere was super unnecessarily chaotic feeling. Spilt food on the floor and the worker spilt my drink toward me while handing it over. It felt more like a zoo than a restaurant. Thankfully my smoothie was pretty good. read more

We love the food however this location was struggling today. No one was in line, they were fully staffed and it took over 20 minutes just to get a smoothie. No apology or acknowledgment of the wait either. And the music is so loud, you can't even have a conversation anymore. read more

Food was very good. I only give it 4stars because it was expensive for two people. The atmosphere is very hip, but kinda small. Overall a good experience and I'd totally eat there again!! read more

If your looking for a healthy and tasty lunch, this is the place to go. The bowls are the best, and always fill you up without feeling guilty. The food is fresh and the inside of the restaurant is very clean and modern. Additionally, the focus on environmentally friendly packaging (bowls, utensils, etc) is very refreshing. A great spot...will come again! read more

Delicious, fresh, and fast! Sometimes I want something green and healthy and this is my go-to place for that! I love that all of their ingredients are labeled with a vegan and GF designation. I have fun putting together my own bowl combination or trying one of the ones with pre-selected ingredients. I really love the dressings and fun bowl toppings. read more

Love the freshness of the bowls, quality of ingredients is great. Quick, friendly, and helpful staff.

Happy and Hale is a fantastic place to get a salad! The ingredients are extremely fresh, and it's by far the best healthy eatery in Durham. Coming from California, I'm thrilled to see H&H moving Durham in the right direction. However, as a avid lover of acai bowls, I have to say I'm very disappointed in this offering. I do not believe there is much real acai in H&H's bowl, and it feels like a cheap knockoff of the real thing. Happy and Hale could really improve in this department by importing 14% pure acai straight from Brazil (labeled purely in Portuguese)... it wouldn't cost them much more but would create a world of difference. A truly successful acai bowl should have a smoothie component so thick it wont budge out of the blender when turned upside down. However, Happy and Hale's bowl is so watery and thin it's hard to even eat it with a spoon... might as well slurp it with a straw at that point...... Further, when I requested Kale be added to the acai bowl (a common addition in most acai bowl places), they put it on top (?) instead of blending it in. Concerning...... Happy to double the stars on this review if H&H doubles the thickness of their acai bowls ;) read more

I appreciate happy & hale a lot more now that I realize it's one of the very few places near me where I can grab a healthy, filling salad to go. My go-to order is the protein bowl, which is their grilled and cubed chicken breast with bacon, black beans, corn, roasted red peppers, and goat cheese. I add mixed greens for a dollar extra and it's the perfect amount of food. The chicken looks like it could be super dry but trust me it's actually just the opposite. The goat cheese adds a decadent creaminess and goes great with the honey sriracha sauce that adds a nice kick. I'm not a bacon fan so I usually just sub it for another veggie or more chicken - they are pretty flexible with substitutions. It really is a lot of protein and I sometimes struggle to finish all of it - never thought I'd say that about a salad but for the price (~$11) it's to be expected I guess. The people working there are friendly too which is always a plus. read more
