With the recent price increases, that is expected. What is not expected is the rounding up of prices... Lately, the price listed and quoted to what is charged and change provided are very different One example is a 10.00 purchase was quoted $11.50. When did tax become 15% again? What peeved me was with a $20.00, was only provided $7.50 with all coins (loonies, dimes and nickels) They have now lost me as a long time customer and will bring my patronage to more honest and deserving shops

Tasty and value! Definitely recommend if you've never been before. Congee is not too watery compared to other places. Make sure to call in advance because the line is looong. Based in the food court, they keep food quality high and low prices.

This is a stall in the food court of Field Fresh supermarket. Notably, the food court has some stalls selling Southern Chinese food which goes beyond the usual Cantonese dishes, of which this is one. Had the Chinese fried dough snacks: you tiao (fried dough sticks), Ham jin peng (fried doughnuts) & Ox-tongue pastry/horse ear pastry. The first is relatively easy to find in the GTA (it's sold packaged in supermarkets) but I haven't seen the other 2 here yet. The you tiao was a bit dense but fresh, warm & crispy & had a good taste.  The Ox-tongue pastry/horse ear pastry was pretty good, but rather light tasting (Butterflies, which I'm told they also do, are tastier). The ham jin peng was decent. It was the salty kind, though it was rather light tasting (it didn't seem to be the variety with five spice powder, and it certainly wasn't the kind with red bean paste or with glutinous rice). One of each of the 3 was $5.50 including tax.

Budget 5 star food Locate in local food court, but foods are to die for. Foods are freshly made, you can even see how they deep fried dough sticks in front of the glass window. Food is as its store name, "Contentment" Full of satisfaction!!!

I have ordered spicy tofu, fried noodles, two type of rice noodle roll and different kind of deep fried bread sticks !

Seen lots of good review about this eatery! Happy Congee located in a food court inside a Chinese supermarket. There were lots of people ordering , to my surprise it only took 10 mins to get my order ! There was only one lady takes order, pack foods and take phone order at the same time ! She was efficient and friendly ! The price of the foods were reasonable, food size were just right too ! Would recommend and definitely come back to eat on site when indoor food court re-open !

Happy Congee is one of the food court vendors in the food court inside the Field Fresh grocery store. It is definitely the most popular one (longest lineups), but I'm not sure why, as I was not crazy about the food there. I went with my parents and we got food from 2 places, Happy Congee being one of them. We got an order of Shrimp Rice Rolls ($3.10), a Chinese donut ($1.50) and an order of Pork Pudding and Minced Beef Congee ($4.50). They accidentally gave us Preserved Egg and Minced Beef Congee instead but my parents didn't realize it until they ate part of it. Dad doesn't like to make a fuss, so he just ate it anyway. My mom said it was one of the worse congee she's ever had. She said it was so bland and she regretted buying it. I don't like congee so I didn't have any. However, my mom loved the Chinese donut. She said it was so crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. They make them there in front of you so you can see. They are fried in this gigantic vat of oil! The shrimp rice rolls were ok, but lacking in shrimp. They were hot and the rolls were chewy and not too thick, but at $3.10 I didn't feel like they were much of a deal considering I got another order of shrimp rice rolls from the dim sum counter inside Field Fresh and those were only $2.59 and they had much more shrimp. I guess I would just recommend this place for their Chinese donuts, not their congee. Congee 1 star, Chinese donuts 4 stars, shrimp rice rolls 3 stars, so overall 3 stars (rounding up).

Sunday Dec. 22, 2019 - I recently watched a Mandarin drama called "Put your head on my shoulder". In many parts of the show the actors/actresses ate youtiao with congee. I told my friend about it and he said he eats it every now and then. I asked him if there is a restaurant that he goes to buy youtiao and he told me one of his favourite restaurant is "Happy Congee". So we set the date. When we got there my friends ordered everything. As I walked around and checked the other restaurants out. The service was fast, plus it was nice to see them fry the Youtiao. We all tried everything and loved it, the congee was yummy and tasted very good with the Youtiao. The sticky rice dumpling with sauce was so good, we had to order more.

I am so Happy that Happy Congee is open for business in the food court area of Field Fresh Supermarket (Old T&T). #1 Beef Congee and Plain Rice Roll ($5.50) always my order to go combo. To celebrate for the first snow storm for Winter 2016, I decided to order a fried dough! Freshly from the fryer, went so well with the congee. Cash Only!

[LOCATION] - 4/5 This place is located in the food court of Field Fresh Supermarket near Steeles Ave. E and Middlefield Rd. Plenty of parking spots at the plaza. [SERVICE] - 5/5 The staff really knew how to manage the crowd and were also quick and efficient when we visited this spot during the lunch rush. [DÉCOR] - 4/5 I liked the concept of the transparent glass panel, which allowed us to see the chefs deep fry dough sticks and create other delicious foods. [QUALITY] - 4/5 Quality of rice rolls were pretty great for a food court stall. The dough stick could have been a little crispier, but tasted fresh overall. [ORDER] - 4/5 - Beef Congee with Plain Rice Roll Combo - $5.80: definitely worth the price for a cheap, filling, and delicious breakfast. Beef congee was a little salty, but plain rice roll tasted so soft and paired so well with hoisin sauce, peanut sauce, sesame seeds, and chilli oil on the side. - Rice Roll with Dough Stick - $2.80: very inexpensive and comforting. Dough stick was definitely fresh but not crispy enough in my opinion. - Shrimp Rice Roll - $2.95: shrimp was delicious and paired well with the rice roll [OVERALL] - 4/5 I would highly recommend Happy Congee for simple, affordable, and delicious congee and rice rolls. I really enjoy how you can customize your own condiments because I can cover my rice rolls in that delicious hoisin sauce, peanut sauce, and chilli oil.

A food court institution in North East Scarborough back to the T&T days when it used to be the main tenant of the building. Now it's part of the Field Fresh Supermarket. As you walk into the supermarket, you'll see their stall on your immediate left. It's one of the most popular vendors in the food court there. The main thing this place has going for it is the freshly fried chinese doughnuts. They're amazing and are the best around. Straight from the giant wok, you seem them freshly frying these delicacies. We always get the fried doughnut stick and the sweet one. I haven't had a better sweet one anywhere else. Everything here is just so soft, very airy and light. The congee is also a popular choice, and you can also get a combo with a soy drink. I guarantee you everyone going there will get one or two, or all three of these items. The congee here is quite silky, a decent amount of ingredients in there. Tastes clean and not too much MSG, perhaps completely devoid of it.

Happy Congee is a small restaurant located in the Field Fresh Supermarket food court. They're located immediately on your left as you enter the building, and they proudly display their giant oil-filled wok through a glass pane for all to see. You can't miss them! While they have a full menu, this is a perfect place to get a quick fried dough snack on your way in to do some groceries (you know what they say about groceries on an empty stomach, right?). If you love youtiao, then this is the place for you: hot, always fresh, and quite the bargain for $1.60 (taxes included). I've been here several times and always found them to be consistent on quality, though perhaps a tad oily: the youtiao are always being bought as quickly as they can make them, they don't get as long to drain as I'd like. That said, I take my cue from my mother-in-law (a real youtiao connaisseur), who always looks forward to enjoying a Happy Congee youtiao whenever she visits from Montreal. For the price, you really can't go wrong.

Happy Congee is located in the Field Fresh Supermarket plaza at Middlefield and Steeles. When the original @tntsupermarketcanada closed, the original kiosk owner moved to the outside units called Original Congee (since closed) while the inside reopened as Happy Congee in its place. . Serving traditional Cantonese style breakfast fare such as congee, noodles, rice rolls etc., its's a popular neighbourhood joint. The food here is pretty good but for us the standout is their freshly made fried Chinese cruellers/donuts. . Chinese cruller/donuts, "yau tiu"(油条) are fried double pieces of dough that is eaten with congee, soy milk, soup or whatever else you want. As a kid we always called it "yau zha gwei" (油炸粿) which means "oil fried ghosts/devil " which apparently represented some treacherous general and his spouse. Who cares as long as it tastes good! . They also make a mean "ngau lei so" (牛脷酥) aka Ox Tongue Pastry which is sweet and "haam chin beng" (咸煎饼) aka Salty Fried Pastry which is of course a salty version. At about $1.50 each they are so cheap that no one makes them at home! 4 outta 5 for freshly made oil fried devils! (Man that sounds weird when you translate it!)

A decent place with a decent price for Chinese food. Their deep fried Chinese donuts are made fresh daily.

We tried several of their noodle soups, and each one had its own charm. The house special noodles came loaded with toppings like beef tendon, brisket, wontons, offal, and squid balls, so every bite felt hearty and satisfying. The broth was especially comforting with the noodles. The wonton noodles were a little lighter, but still very good. The shrimp wontons were huge, with a nice crisp bite to the shrimp, and the whole bowl felt especially soothing after a late night. The offal noodles were also impressive, with a very generous portion of offal and a fragrant touch of garlic oil that brought everything together. The four-ball noodle soup is a great choice if you are not sure what to order, since you get to try fish balls, squid balls, beef tendon balls, and sliced fish all in one bowl. My favorite dish of the night was definitely the fried dumplings. They were crispy on the outside, tender and juicy inside, and soaked up that savory house sauce so well. Easily some of the best fried dumplings I've had. We also tried the chives and pork blood, which is a must-order for anyone who enjoys pork blood dishes. There was no unpleasant smell at all, and the seasoning with chives was just right. To drink, the iced lemon tea and lemonade were simple but refreshing, and paired perfectly with the meal. Overall, this is a place I would gladly come back to when I want something filling, flavorful, and affordable.

We ended up ordering the Signature Spicy Grilled BBQ Fish ($40), a whole fish served bubbling hot with three toppings (potatoes, spam, and lotus root). You can choose between catfish and turbot, we chose the turbot fish. It looked extremely spicy, but the spice level was actually perfect. It was a bit on the oily side, but pairing it with rice balanced it out nicely. The fish was very tender and buttery, everything tasted amazing! We also ordered the Stir-Fried Egg with Tomato. The eggs were soft, the tomato sauce was rich. Not to mention the portion size was huge, we even had leftovers after eating until we were full. The restaurant itself was spacious, clean, and had plenty of seating. I think they were doing some sort of promotion so they gave us a $25 off coupon, though it expired pretty quickly so we didn't get to use it. I'd definitely come back for that grilled fish.
