Cauliflower stir fry
Cynthia C.

Solid lunch spot for comfort foods: clay pots, fried items and bbq. The staff here are very efficient, friendly and can speak multiple dialects. Futuristic LED lighting on the ceilings, padded neon orange seating/booths that are nicely spaced out. I personally thought $30 for 3 meat platter was pretty steep but everything else on the menu seemed to be mostly under $17. The char siu wasn't too fatty, they don't overuse the red dye and not too much cancer causing char! Chicken and duck were standard. Loved the cauliflower stir fry - big portion, seasoned right and lots of Chinese cured meats to nibble on. The clay pot rice noodle was a simple surprise, a clear broth, shredded daikon, shiitake, dried shrimp, chicken and some noodles - felt light and healthy. Light handed with the MSG here. Try the chili sauce on the table. Solid spot for a quick lunch - steady flow of people throughout our visit. 3.7 - rounding up

Hao Kee Kitchen takes over the old King Kong space. The Cantonese BBQ / noodle restaurant is casual with noodle, claypot and rice dishes. We ordered the deep fried smelt, chicken rice noodle claypot with a dual of roasted duck and Hainan chicken. All of the items were good. Service was good and there is plenty of parking in the large shopping center.

Not too sure if we will visit again. The roasted goose was a rare find but way too pricey. $80 something for half. The favor was excellent however the meat was too tough. I couldn't compare with the authentic goose I had in Hong Kong. I believe the supply itself is not the same. The clay pot rice noodles felt like a pot of leftover mixed together. The roasted pork and bbq pork were good but small in portion. The cups and plates were all greasy. The cleanliness needs improvement. The service overall was attractive. They didn't serve the plum sauce until we ask for. Only the goose took quite a long time to prepare.

Found there is this new place for claypot rice and HK BBQ. Restaurant is bright and clean, but unfortunately the dinnerware is not. Arrived during lunch hour on Sunday, around 1pm. It was full house, and there was only two servers were serving approximately 10+ tables. We were about to pour water to the water cup but found it was greasy holding it, so we use the napkin to wipe down a bit, finding there is still lipstick stain because it transferred to the napkin, quite disgusting. Told the server and they quickly changed to paper cups, soon after, next table customer said the same thing. While waiting, found the chopsticks were not very clean either, some kind of vegetable was still sticking on it! So we decided to clean with water ourselves one more time. I understand it is new and everything still needs to be adjusted, but serving unclean dinnerware is quite nasty. Management please take a deeper look and hoping to see improvement next time I come. So we finally ordered, and knowing it was still lunch hour and there was a wait. Time has been ticking and our food was not ready. Not only ours not ready, they barely started serving maybe 5 tables before us and we actually were already seated for 25 minutes. Wow, orders have been backed up and still seeing the kitchen non stop cooking! Business owners should look at this since this is understaff during peak hours. About the plates we ordered: Two BBQ items with rice (Hainan chicken & roast duck) 8/10: Not sure if it was because of this dish has been ready for a while before it was served, everything was cold. Both hainan chicken and roast duck tastes good. In addition, I found they served honey soy bean, where you don't find many places make those and serve along with roast duck. Beans are soft enough and very tasty. Fish fillet & Tofu Claypot 7/10: This dish took the longest, from the moment we sat down till it served, it took more than 30 minutes. Taste is just all right, it is only some ordinary deep fried tofu and fish fillet, not a surprising dish. Overall, this restaurant is still new and there is still a lot of improvement. If I will ever go back? I might, to try out their claypot rice and give them another try

First time trying this place. I was really excited to try. Based on the pictures and reviews. However, I do feel like their portion sizes for their prices isn't that great. I got their sweet and sour pork and hainan chicken. I was disappointed that they only gave you a small portion of the ginger sauce and when I asked for more she went to the back and said they ran out. But, it was 6:30pm. So idk. Disappointment one. I tried the sweet and sour chicken first and it was just okay. After this bite I was like yeah, I'm not going back. But, after tasting the chicken mmmm! Soo good!! I will give them another try and try the duck and pork. But, I would say price for portion size isn't that great.

Hao Kee Kitchen opened 2 weeks ago where King Kong Chinese Kitchen was. Interior has new 7 new tables, 7 new booths. No decor save for signage on front wall. Some chairs are too cramped. Seating packed post noon. Luckily got seating soon after entering. Many patrons ordered to go. Ordered. Got food in 10ish minutes. Offerings: (BBQ, Cantonese): appetizers, pan fried combos, specialities, noodle soup, rice plate, entrees, claypot, drinks... Eats: pan fried chow mein with char Siu (14.95) -home made chili sauce on table not too spicy. -pan fried chow mein just barely pan fried. Angel hair size. Warm. Tasted only soy sauce. No wok hei. Had semi raw bean sprouts/green onions. No blanching nor stir fried. -some small pieces of char siu semi-hard/chewy. Not stirred fried nor fresh. Just got into warmed chow mein. 3.5 stars semi-worthy:ymmv quality: underwhelming. Pan fried chow mein ok. Rest not. Quantity: barely reasonable. Plates have unique designs with Chinese sayings/wordss: good, peace & happiness et al.

This new Chinese food restaurant took over the old King Kong place on the Blvd. It has good ambient, the inside feels really clean and the vibe is great. Servers are super attentive and nice. They are very patient and came to check on us a few times to see if we need anything. It was a light dinner for us so we got the Choi Sum in broth and sweet and sour pork. Both dishes look very appetizing and the portion is great. However, the sweet and sour pork has almost no pork in it. It's just a heavy layer of fried breading. More than half of the dish when I took a bite there was either no meat in there or so little meat that you only taste the breading. Even though it was a disappointing dish, the taste was still very good though. Will have to come back another time to give it another try.

Nicely remodeled restaurant, but the wait took almost an hour due to only 2 waitress'. Haines Chicken has sauce poured over the chicken & so it was sparse whereas I've seen a Yelper get a side of the garlic, green onion sauce. Food was good, but they aren't equipped to handle a room full of customers due to the lack of staffing. Be prepared to wait(we waited a good 30 min. & the entire lunch took 1hr. w/3 dishes. Orders: -3 Meat BBQ Combo platter which we chose the Macao BBQ Pork, Haniese Chicken & Honey BBQ Pork. The meats were well curated but the chicken had very little ginger, scallion oil dipping sauce. The chicken had little meat, so for this reason it didn't appeal to me, but everything else was perfectly made. -Stir Fried Beef Chow Fun(not pictured) was flavorful without a lot of grease & what I loved the most is the quality of the meat which was tender & seasoned perfectly. This is a dish we always order & in this case we weren't disappointed. -Hai Nan Chicken Fried Rice(not pictured) was moist & consistently flavorful. What impressed me was the quality of the pieces of chicken. Usually it seems like most places just offer the scraps of chicken pieces, but here at Hao Kee Kitchen you get a nice chunk of chicken. Would revisit Hao Kee Kitchen again to see how the efficiency of dishes go.

On our 2nd carry out experience I would update and increase rating from 4 to a 4.2 rating as the beef chow fun has pleasantly thin noodles, the mapo tofu was well seasoned, and the bbq 2 combo w tasty duck and pork was delicious. It is on par with garden cafe and Hong Kong bbq in Castro Valley

Had a craving Sunday evening and found this place only because all the other places were closed or closing. Wasn't sure if they did over the phone orders so me and the lady friend went to investigate. Incredilby busy, they had been catering to what looked like two large groups. The place itself looked great, clean and organized in a way that celebrated who they were. Enter my first issue, they really didn't have a clear line of communication. We walked up and we didn't know who to talk to or ask about menus or anything. Infact yelp is where I found I could call in the order. Enter second issue, asked if they had pork and the woman said yes. proceed to order Hai Nan Chicken and Rice and then BBQ pork and was immediately shot down. No more pork. Thats fine, two Chickens it is. Enter the third issue, headed in for pick up. Once again, no idea who I'm supposed to talk to or where I'm supposed to go so all the way to what looks like a front counter where employees are rushing past me making me feel nervous and out of place. I said excuse me, immediately again shot down with "we are closed" which is fine to me, I understand the mentality near the end of a night. I told her it was phone order and she changed her tune. Last and final issue for me was payment, I had always intended to leave a decent tip. Being a local restaurant and a small business I always try to support. This woman took my card and selected my tip for me, which rubbed me entirely the wrong way. Crazy part about it, the food was delicous and I want to actually try the BBQ pork still but I feel like I don't want to return for that kind of chaos.

We tried this place as we saw it had recently opened, but it wasn't quite up to standard. First of all, being a new place, you wouldn't expect to have a leaking roof or tables that wobble. Well, on our visit, the they had a bucket collecting water dripping from the ceiling and the table we sat at kept wobbling, even after putting some tissue underneath. Now onto the food, honestly it was anything to rave about. We had the Wonton Noodle Soup, Hai Nan Chicken and Sweet & Sour Pork, and nothing to write home about for any of the 3 dishes. The sweet & sour pork was weird in how each piece was circular in shape, never seen that before, and it just didn't seem right or traditional. The wonton noodle soup wasn't anything to rave about, the meat was so so and the shrimps were meh. The Hai Nan Chicken was decent, I liked the ginger scallion sauce that was spreaded on top of the chicken. Would be better on the side though, so you can dip the chicken yourself. The service was okay, the staff was friendly, but not too attentive to needs or concerns I would say. Only time will tell how will this place does and if they last. Also, the parking lot here is very dark, they have lights, but they weren't on in the evening, and we went at like 7ish.

Food was delicious! The place is a great Hong Kong style cafe, and the interior is super cute with the splashes of orange everywhere. My favorite was the salt and pepper tofu. Service was good - they got our order in quickly and were super attentive.

Service is good. Ambiance is a quick, easy dash and fine spot as there's a few tables. Food taste is mediocre yet fine if you just need something quick and easy. Temperature of food is decent. Except for the one dish we ordered which came out like warm and quickly turned cold so no "wok hey".

The cheese is rich, smooth, and perfectly melted, coating every piece of pasta without being too heavy or greasy. It's that balance a lot of places miss: creamy without feeling overwhelming. The texture is where it really stands out. The noodles are cooked just right not too soft, not too firm so every bite has that perfect consistency. And if there's a baked top layer, it adds that slight crisp that contrasts the creaminess underneath, making it even better. Flavor-wise, it's deep. You can taste the blend of cheeses instead of just one basic note. It's savory, slightly sharp, and comforting at the same time. It's the kind of dish that doesn't need extras to prove itself it already stands strong on its own. What really makes it memorable though is how it feels like more than just food. It's the type of mac and cheese that reminds you why simple dishes matter when they're done right. It's warm, satisfying, and leaves you thinking about it even after you're done. Some meals fill you up... this one stays with you. I am impressed!!

Bruh, I was going to comment that the hours are silly on this Yelp page, went to go double check…read moretheir Google page and apparently it's permanently closed? I'm gonna check with my NorCal moots about this but sucks if that's true. I was going to comment on how this is one of few bastions of affordable, slightly more unique food in the bay area, but I guess that's not the case. I'm spoiled by having a Dollar Hits in SoCal literally down the street from me so I can't say this place compares, but it's at least an option for NorCal, you know? This definitely used to be another restaurant, but then retrofitted to be a grill. Super large grill in the middle for everyone to communally cook at indoors. This is a good combination between the outdoors grill it yourself and the indoors seating of both the SoCal Dollar Hits, so I thought that was nice. They have all the classics here, isaw (sometimes Dollar Hits doesn't have this unless you request -it's chicken intestines), large intestines, chicken skin, kwek kwek (battered quail eggs), and Tender Juicy bright red filipino hot dogs (a must). You can also order a side of rice and the sauces were self serve (made it a bit sticky). It gets a bit smoky in there even with the fans, but overall had an enjoyable time the time when I did visit.

The food on the sticks does not compare at all to other places I've had it especially the Philippines. The fish ball and lobster balls were dry and needing the fish ball sauce which they didn't have. Only sauce I did find that they say was an all around sauce was pretty much a watered down mang Tomas sauce. The bbq stick was rubber and way too sweet. The chicharon bulaklak was also rubber and not crunchy at all. The kikiam was okay. The isaw was not good at all, it lack seasoning. The shumai was dry. Service was you pretty much get what you want and heat it up yourself. Place was empty as there wasn't much people. Definitely first and last time coming here.

I truly believe that there is potential here, but a lot of things would have to change. When you walk in, BBQ is not the first thing you smell. I'm the type that if you can smell the BBQ when you get out of the car, it's probably about to be pretty dang good. I got all the way into the restaurant and it was just a vague smell... not necessarily bad, but not necessarily food, either. * The Mac n' Cheese recipe needs to be re-thought and revised. It was watery, tasteless and not what you would expect from a black owned business. * The cornbread is expensive and not given as sidecar to your sides. I'd rather pay a little more for food overall when I buy a plate and get cornbread than have to ask for and purchase a side of cornbread. As far as taste, if I wasn't eating it with the greens, it wouldn't have been very good standalone. * I had the rib plate.... No rub in sight, not even the slightest hint of salt and pepper coating. It was almost like the ribs go straight from package to smoker, no process in between. They seem to take the angle of drowning them in sauce, which is overly tangy seems like a bulk purchase sauce, rather than a house made sauce. BBQ sauce is too simple to make to not hone in on your own sauce recipe. The ladies who plate the food chop the ribs in half as a means to fit them into the carton, but to be honest, I don't wanna see or taste pigs marrow when I'm eating my ribs. Ribs were also very dry and over-charred... a few pieces. * The greens were the best thing on the whole plate to be honest. * Lastly, the hot sauce packets were puffy and swollen, which is never a good sign. Never seen that before until I came here. Also, I asked for extra BBQ sauce and was told that would be an extra charge..... this was already a tip off that they don't get a lot of business and now they're at the "nickels & dimes" point of their day-to-day operations. All in all, it just seems like the labor of love has been lost on this place, as it was recommended to me by someone who says it was good years ago. While that might be true, it seems the family has gotten too comfortable with their neighborhood regulars to keep the doors open and the quality is slipping as the month and years pass. If you're reading this as the owner, I hope this is a motivator for you to restructure and re-brand so that you become a "line out the door" business, because in today's climate, it only takes one influencer to enter your doors and call your food "certified" or "trash" for YouTube, IG, Twitch etc.. Be brave and make changes.
