We stuck to the Chinese section of the menu. The food was very good, sweet-and-sour pork, pork, fried rice, and chicken lo mein. The eggrolls were hot and very good. Portion size was excellent so much that the two of us brought leftovers home of each of the dishes. The service was outstanding and we thank you for a great first time visit. Typical westernized Chinese food. Very interesting that it had Chinese food and pizza + burgers. The crispy beef is good. The other Chinese dishes were ok, not that great. The portion size is regular and price is high. Ex. Shanghai noodle is usually $13-15 , here it is $20. The service is great, the staff are very friendly. They offer take out and delivery. I was so hopeful this was going to be a good experience because I love local mom and pop restaurants. Sadly it wasn't. There were some positives though... The staff were wonderful. So friendly and attentive. The menu is decent but a little quirky (Chinese food and then a parmigiana and bolognese thrown in). However, hat's ok, I thought it added a little charm. The whole place got a fresh facelift recently which looked quite pleasing. Interior and exterior renovations. We ordered standard fare Chinese takeout (fried rice, sweet and sour chicken balls etc). When we got it home five minutes later and dove in we all looked at each other and wondered why something didn't seem right. To start... The sweet and sour sauce was just sweet, and way too sweet with no sour. The fried rice wasn't fried rice. It was just rice with some veg. It was very bland, not seasoned and was yellow for some reason not the traditional brown. The beef and broccoli was..... well in a word, "slimy." We were scared to eat it. Cantonese chow mein noodles were white, not brown like every other places we've eaten at (maybe they don't fry them at hansons which might explain). They weren't bad tasting but were also very bland. I think you get the point, sadly everything tasted the same. Not like Chinese food!?!! There was one dish that was better than any other one I've had anywhere which deserves mention. Their sweet and sour chicken balls. Other than the gloopy super sweet sauce, the actual chicken balls were amazing. Big thick chunks of chicken perfectly cooked in a nice crispy batter. Perfection! They really got those right. Also the broccoli in the beef and broccoli was a bright and crispy green also nicely cooked- sadly the beef was chewy and also kind of slimy which pulled the dish down. I just wish I could say more good things about more items but I can't. I think some recipes need some tweaking to improve the flavours of the food. Ditch the sauces that come out of cans and prepare more items with authenticity and flavour. That could turn the whole flavour problem around. I think I'll check back in a year or so and follow up. As strange as an Italian/Chinese restaurant is, I felt that it worked surprisingly well! I came here last weekend for my sons' 3rd birthday (more of a family gathering than birthday party) and we rented out the large party room that they have. I think they said it seats about 40 people but we had half as many. We ordered large platters of various items. I enjoyed most of the items that we ordered and I'll list them below. Some other items were just ok but I didn't dislike anything. Vegetarian spring rolls: I absolutely loved these! They're huge, maybe twice the size of a regular spring roll, and they were delicious! The outside was crispy and the inside was filled with veggies and noodles that worked so well. Lemon chicken: The sauce isn't overpowering and the chicken was crispy on the outside while still moist on the inside. I generally don't like lemon chicken because the sauce is too sweet or bitter but I thought Hanson's did a nice job of getting it just right. Crispy chicken wings: Huge chicken wings that were super juicy on the inside! They taste like what you'd expect from a Chinese restaurant but done really well! Salt and pepper shrimp: These shrimp are lightly breaded and spiced really well. This is key because most Chinese restaurants have a ton of batter. These weren't too spicy and super delicious! Thin crust pizza: The best part of the meal and this is the reason their restaurant can thrive as an Italian/Chinese restaurant! While it's a bit pricier than your average pizza, the extra cost is worth it! The crust was thin but not floppy and the taste/quality of the crust and ingredients really shine! The last thing I wanted to mention was the service. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive to our needs. Definitely some of the best service you can ask for. Overall, I thoroughly loved Hanson's! I'll have to try the rest of their diverse menu since there is so much there and they have lots of potential! They've won me over and I'll definitely be going back over and over again! read more

Best Chinese food ever! Has a slight twist to all typical Chinese dishes, but absolutely fantastic! Cannot beat the General Tao, so yummy The noodle dishes are amazing-tried them all and the Sesame chicken is incredible. My all time favourite is the crispy chicken wings, so big and crispy. Try the egg rolls and spring rolls, they are also so tasty. Have taken many friends and family members there, and has now become their favourite spot too! This is, by far, the best place in this area to go for Chinese food. I have tried every other Chinese food place and their food has gone down hill, more money and far less quality. The service is awesome and the quality of the food is fantastic. I went and had take-out and it was just as good as if I had eaten in the restaurant. We were on our way to Shadow Lake camp near Musselman's Lake, Ontario when we discovered this unique Chinese and Italian restaurant. That sounds like a weird combination till you find out that a longtime Italian restaurant in the area got purchased by Chinese owners. It's generally a couple of dollars more expensive than you'd pay for the equivalent item at your average Toronto eatery. However, the food quality of everything we had was uniformly excellent, really piping hot, fresh and tasty and I had the best Black Pepper Beef, which is my fave Chinese dish, that I've ever had in my life! It's a good thing I had conventional utensils instead of chopsticks to eat it with, because it was SO GOOD that I had to scoop up with a big spoon, every last drop of all the chopped garlicky peppery goodness of the black pepper sauce, after enjoying thoroughly the beef, sautéed onions and green pepper pieces. Hubby was very content to order a nicely battered haddock fish and chips. My oldest daughter decided to try the spaghetti. She just had one problem, not enough parmesan as she prefers. So I have a suggestion for Hanson's management: either have your wait staff come by to grate the parmesan personally to each customer as they do at places like East Side Mario's, which is the classier way, or provide a shaker of grated parmesan along with a shaker of crushed red peppers for each table ordering pasta or pizza as they do at Pizza Hut. Cause cheese is VERY IMPORTANT, you guys! All in all, provided we weren't broke at the time, we'd happily be back to enjoy the offerings at Hanson's Restaurant if we were in the area. I really wanted to like this place because the staff seemed very friendly. Let me begin by stating I did take out the food so the quality could have suffered a tad bit. This is why I'm giving it three stars as opposed to two. I ordered hot and sour soup, sweet and sour chicken balls and chicken dumplings. The hot and sour soup was pretty bland and salty, no real heat to it. The sweet and sour chicken balls were dry and made with dark meat. The dumplings weren't bad but the dipping sauce was way too vinegary for my liking. Yes keep in mind that it was my first visit here, and I only had a small sample of the menu. Hanson's is a nice little place that has a solid reputation for good food and friendly staff. I would say that the good staff and pleasant atmosphere are the best parts about Hanson's, but the food is also quite good. If you've never been here before, you may find the menu a bit strange. The combination of Chinese-inspired and Pizza is unusual, but the cooking staff is able to produce both with quality. The pizza is very good, and the Chinese food is decent too but the chicken stands out to me as particularly better than the rest. The place is seldom too packed, so anyone dining here is likely to have attentive staff members serving them. I like to stop here when I am in the area, and I highly recommend it. read more

Went there recently, overall very happy with experience. My only issues with the place is the location, being far from where I live and the portions for some of the dishes, mainly the noodles, were small (We ordered Cantonese noodles). Other then that, Everything tasted really good, even the noodles, and I would consider this good for a traditional Chinese restaurant, despite it being a Canadian-Chinese restaurant. Just got an extra large pizza, with 3toppings at $28 which was a pick up. These folks claim to be in business for a long time. First and last visit for us. This dry poor excuse of a pizza just does not measure up, especially for the price. I suggest that the owners check out Lamar's in Bradford. There they put toppings that are falling when the slice is picked up. Unlike this one where you need a magnifying glass to see the toppings. I had ordered some takeout from Hanson's a while back. I had arrived a little early, and was chatting with Hanson while waiting for my food. He said, let me check on your food for you. My food arrived out of the kitchen and I left quickly since my Mom and Son were waiting in the car. It didn't occur to me at the time that it was probably more bags than necessary for what I'd ordered. Halfway home, I got a call. We'd apparently been given the wrong order... I was ready to turn around and head back, but was told to go home and Hanson would bring me our order. He arrived less than 5 minutes after we got home, and when I handed him the other bags, he said, "No, please, this was our error. Enjoy the other dishes." He re-made the entire order for the other customer, and we had Chinese food that fed two families for a week! We did try some new things, all of which were delicious! Love this place.
