    Carbonara Rice Cake
    Sherry G.

I was craving some Korean fried chicken in Oakland, and I didn't want to go to bb.q Chicken because last time I ate there, they had too much packaging waste. Because of that, I decided to try Hanshin Pocha last Friday at around 7 p.m. It was very empty, so we were able to choose our table. As they removed the extra plate on the table, I told them I brought my own chopsticks, so they could take away those, too, and use them for another table. There was an iPad at the table that made ordering convenient. My party of two got the following: Carbonara Rice Cake - Tasted great! It was flavorful, and the rice cakes were chewy. One of the best Asian fusion dishes I've ever had. Korean Fried Chicken (Garlic & Pepper) - Standard fare. This had a good fry, though some of the chicken pieces were white meat, so they weren't as tasty. What they did was chop up a whole chicken and fry the pieces. While I was disappointed about the less tasty white meat, I did appreciate that they used more of the chicken. Beef Soft Tofu Stew - This also tasted like standard fare, so it was decent. They didn't say it was spicy on the ordering tablet, but it was a little bit spicy. We did end up having leftovers, so I packed them away in my glass Pyrex containers from the car. One thing I loved, but didn't need, was their seats can flip open so you can store your stuff inside. Amazing! Overall, the food is fairly average, aside from the Carbonara Rice Cakes, which was fantastic. I love the amount of reusable foodware that they used (see Eco Notes below), and I will come back for that Carbanara. ECO NOTES (Dine-In) Dine-In Dishware: Reusable plates and bowls Napkins: Single-use disposable paper napkin Utensils: Wooden chopsticks, which I asked them to take back, and metal spoons Water cups: Reusable metal cups

chicken feet, chicken gizzard and fries, kimchi fried rice - all delicious!

I'm honestly shocked I haven't reviewed Hanshin Pocha yet because I've been here at least five times this year... and I keep coming back for one dish and one dish only: THE. CHICKEN. FEET. Why are they so good?! This was actually my first time having Korean-style chicken feet. I've only had them at Taiwanese/Chinese dim sum spots before, but these are next level. Spicy, flavorful, and the seasoning gets into every bit of that gelatinous goodness. My only complaint is that when I shower later, my lips still feel the burn... but also it's like a fun reminder of the deliciousness I just experienced, so I'm not even mad. Other reccs: Spicy pork with cheese: my partner's favorite! Marinated crab: solid Chicken gizzard with fries: surprisingly addictive One miss: the oden soup. Not sure if we caught a bad batch, but it had that freezer-burn taste and I couldn't finish it (which says a lot because I'm usually anti-food-waste). Everything else we've tried over multiple visits has been great though. Overall, it was an awesome late-night spot with tasty bites, good vibes, and food that hits even harder after a few drinks. We'll definitely keep coming back for more... especially those darn chicken feet.

Extremely Disappointed in the lack of care for customers. We ordered the seafood pancake since most of our table does not eat pork. They give us a "pork" pancake which had eggshells in the pancake. Our table had issues with the tab where the orders were confused with a different table and the servers first response was, "YOU ordered it, so YOU have to eat it." We ended up calling the manager and talking to people on the other table, and got it figured out, but that experience was incredible rude. Additionally, this place is not located in a safe environment. While eating, our friend's car got broken into . Very disappointed, do not recommend coming here again.

I was craving Korean fried chicken one night after work, and checked google and TikTok to see what my best options were since it was kind of late at night (10pm). To my surprise, Hanshin Pocha was top rated on both Google and TikTok. There were lots of people on TikTok raving about this restaurant all over the country, (It seems to be a chain). So I decided to give it a shot. At first glance, this late night eatery is pretty cute. It has a bit of a vibe to it, playing K-pop in the background and bright with different colored neon lights. I really enjoyed the ambience. It felt fun. When it comes to the food, I'm not exactly sure how to feel. This was my first experience in this type of Korean restaurant. I've had Korean food before, but I've never had the dishes I had smothered in mozzarella cheese and what not. I'm really not sure how I felt about it. I love cheese, and I do love Korean food, but I don't know that I loved them together. Just my preference. The menu is huge. So there are lots of dishes to choose from. They don't all have cheese on them. I just chose what seemed to be the most popular on TikTok like the kimchi fried rice, and the chicken of course. If I'm being completely honest, I didn't love the chicken. The sauce wasn't bad, but my boyfriend kept comparing it to ketchup, and that left a bad taste in my mouth. It just wasn't quite what I was hoping for or expecting when ordering Korean fried chicken. But I suppose there are several ways you can do it. So I'm not trying to knock them, it just wasn't my favorite. I loved the presentation of the kimchi fried rice. It looked so good. And it was tasty, it was just hard to eat with all of the mozzarella cheese, burnt to the bottom of the skillet. It felt like we had to scrape the dish off of the plate that it served on. And that's while it was hot. Don't let it cool down, because then the cheese congealed into a rock solid form, and it's almost impossible to eat after that. Even when I tried to reheat it at home, it could not be brought back to life. We also tried the fried potstickers. And I don't think I took any notes on them. I can hardly remember what I thought about them, so I'm going to say they were forgettable. That doesn't mean they were bad. They were just average potstickers I guess. One of my favorite things about this place is their hours for starters. I love a late night restaurant. So I really appreciate them for being open as late as they are. And secondly, I really appreciated their drink options. They had a lot of different Korean beverages that you don't typically find on menus, such as pear juice, and pocari sweat. All in all, despite my opinions on the food, I think this place is definitely worth checking out. While I might not have loved something, I could absolutely see why somebody else might enjoy it. It's a fun spot to try something different and get outside of your comfort zone.

A very cute Korean place with good vibes. The menu has a wide variety of food, Korean stew, fried chicken, and even marinated raw crab. Price is very reasonable given that the portion is quite large, it is recommended to visit this place as a big group so you get to try more food. They also open till late, so it will be a pretty good spot for those who want some late night food and drinks.

It's a Korean restaurant with variety of hot pot, fried chicken and bowls. Service was OK. Staff was responsive. Indoor setting with booths and tables. Ambient is a bit KPop style with KPop shows playing on big screen with nice music. Ambient can easily get laud. Food was not as expected, bowls were so sweet watery, no ingredients, tasteless. Boneless Fried chicken was so oily, fatty low quality meat. Items are very expensive. Just check the menu! For sure you can get better food else where. None (group of four) could finish their meal despite starving. We ended up MacDonald opposite street for a bit to just change the mouth taste! They seem to play up the game much ahead of tariff/inflation hit! Understand it's a chain reaction and their cost might have gone up too and sorry for businesses :(

Food was yummy! We got the soy sauce squid, spicy tteokbokki, & chicken with cheese. Lots of seating inside. Floors were a little sticky. Service was great, they have a light at the end of the table you can use to signal for any questions.

I ordered the garlic fried chicken and the tteokbokki. Both were tasty, but the tteokbokki was a little spicier than expected. The chicken was okay for me--just came in really big pieces.

I can't recall who recommended this spot, but it did not disappoint and was better than I'd thought it would be. I decided to stop by (without making a reservation) on a Wednesday night with my family and the entire restaurant was empty. We were the only customers there the entire time. I'm assuming more people come here for a late night meal rather than dinner? We ordered the following items and it was more than enough for the 4 of us. - Cheese Pork BBQ - the pork was tender and had a little kick to it and paired perfectly with the mozzarella cheese. - Hanshin Chicken - a whole chicken that is extremely crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It even comes with seasoning on the side to dip the chicken in. - Stir-Fried Seafood - loved the crispy fried noodles and all the seafood that came with it but could have used a bit more flavor. I would stop by again to try other items on their menu. Telegraph Ave is known for many Korean restaurants but parking can be a bit tricky due to limited street parking.

This is a go-to place for me and my friends! I've been here multiple times. Today, I came with a bigger party to celebrate a friend's birthday! We split order by different tables, since we were a big group! All the food and alcohol was good , except service was a bit slow for my table specifically. We had to ask multiple times for one of our dishes that we ordered a while ago. We did eventually get it as our last dish. However, I understand they could've had a busier day and just forgot. They gave us a free dish to make up the situation. All good!! overall, I love this place! I think the food in general is delicious and service is great! 10/10 would recommend !

Stopped by here with a friend and it was relatively busy. They seated us pretty quickly. I will say, the vibes were very good. We were definitely the smallest group in the restaurant and after getting seated and our menu, we ordered drinks and said we needed some time with the menu and they gave us a lot of time. When we did order, food came pretty quickly and was solid. Is it my new favorite Korean spot? No, but it's a great place if you want to wow a friend with a cheese pull.

I can here for late night eats after a concert on a Friday night and I really loved the vibes! I honestly love the chairs. They were weirdly so comfortable and low to the ground but something about it stood out to me. We ordered two dishes and I just remembered the pork with cheese being very salty. You were supposed to wrap it in the cheese, and so that would make things better. I definitely love a good spicy, sour, salty, cheesy, combo at night so it hit the spot for me! The portion sizes are also huge. Me and 2 friends were stuffed!

Hanshin Pocha stands out from other pochas for serving unique Korean dishes. I've dined in this establishment a couple times and find this place to be super packed, whether it be a weekday or weekend night. My favorite items are the whole grilled squid, chicken feet, garlic and pepper fried chicken, and soft tofu soup. All items were really flavorful and had the perfect amount of seasoning or spice. I've never experienced spicy stir-fried chicken feet, so this dish absolutely blew me away! I loved how the grilled squid was not too chewy as well. Generous portions of crispy and crunchy fried chicken. The cheese is so addicting to eat and pairs well with meat and fried items. This restaurant is great for small and large groups, but I recommend coming with more people to try more items. Most dishes are priced around $30, but I think it's reasonable in terms of quality and portions.

It tastes good. However, the chicken feet are too big and burdensome. I hope it's chicken feet of an appropriate size.

The food in this place was good but the service was so bad at some point I felt like it was a torture. The place was kind of empty not too many table were full but the waiter just would be gone for long and wouldn't come ask if we needed anything. The wait between meals like appetizer and main course was so long not because of kitchen but the server was just gone for long at a stretch. I had to ask him to come and same with after our meal was finished he never came to ask if we needed dessert, The waiter on other table saw us a few times and he finally came and gave us a menu. I really wanted to try a dessert but was scared this will again take us another hour to even get the server to come and get our order. On top of really slow service there was an older man who sat in the table next to us and kept talking to us looking at our food. He literally was asking me if you support trump do you like him. He kept telling us how he knew the owner and his wife and has come to this place for 100 times over years and everything is free for him here. This was all ok but I wasn't sure why he wasn't letting us eat our meal in peace. At some point he became a little racist as well, when we tried to take our food goto he told us i won't take this goto. I never take this goto. Do you have cable.. omg never ending interrogation and also kept looking at our food and table and what we were eating and kept commenting on that. I understand this restaurant might have some old and familiar guest or important people come to this place but they should understand other guest should still be able to enjoy there meal without being bothered by the people who are known. It was one of my worse restaurant experiences, the service and on top of this man who somehow is VIP guest at this place made it so hard for us to have our date night meal in peace. I literally tried to run away from this place. This was almost 2 hrs long ordeal. We came a little before 6 and left at 8 and I never eat for that long. From the moment we sat down, something felt off. We had just come from the Alvin Ailey show and were catching up, so we were taking our time. Still, it felt like we were being rushed. The pacing of the food made no sense. The salad came out quickly, which was fine, but before we even started it, two fried dishes hit the table. I asked directly if they were trying to rush us because I've been here many times and that has never happened. The response I got felt dismissive, like I didn't understand how they serve their food. I do. This was different. By the time we got to the fried dishes, they were cold and not good. And honestly, they didn't seem hot when they first came out. That pretty much set the tone. The pasta came later and was also cold. At that point, I asked to speak with the owner. I've met her before when I've come in with my boyfriend and she's always been warm and present. This time I was told she was busy, and while I could see she was in the back of the house, she did not appear so busy that she couldn't step away briefly to address a guest who was clearly disappointed. No one ever came back to follow up. The main dishes didn't recover anything. The cod had no flavor and was cold. The pork chop was tough, fatty, and just not good. It didn't feel like the same kitchen at all. What made it harder to ignore was looking around the room. Other tables were getting a completely different experience. Food coming out properly paced, hot, and with attention. Our table felt like an afterthought, especially after we raised a concern early on. At one point, someone offered to take two dishes off the bill. I appreciated the gesture, but that wasn't the issue. I wasn't trying to get anything for free. I was trying to give my friends a really nice birthday dinner. This is a Michelin-recognized restaurant, which is exactly why I chose it. I've known them to deliver. That's what made this experience so disappointing. It felt rushed, disorganized, and careless. I don't know what's going on there right now, but it was not the same experience I've had before. I won't be going back. PS. Normally I take pictures, but didn't because the food was that disappointing!

Well this ended up being kind of a bummer today. Not a very attractive place, but we chose it…read moreknowing it was a diner, so expectations of decor were limited. The waitress looked comfortable wearing her pajamas and the cook in his shorts and t-shirt.... Odd, but whatever. Some standard tables and chairs and a cooler in the dining area for drinks. Handy, I suppose. Or, maybe that was the only outlet available? Who knows? Added character! Haha I'll share some positive notes: The French fries were great! Perfectly crisp outside and tender in! We ordered the pulled pork fries as an appetizer. It was okay. The pork tasted a little off, but not quite sure why. My daughter's cheeseburger was fine. My friends sandwich, BLT was also fine. Things went south from here. My sandwich was the brisket and the waitress said it was her favorite. Well... everybody has different tastes I guess because I felt like it was gross. The meat tasted old and it was absolutely the messiest sandwich in the Kingdom of Messy Sandwiches. I'm OK, in general, with messy sandwiches, but in this case it was extreme. I needed a bib and wet wipes in abundance. It came with a salad, which would have been great, except they absolutely DROWNED it in an apple cider vinegar dressing. The thing is, the dressing had a wonderful flavor, and it would have been quite lovely had it not been so cloying and gooped on so massively. It was literally inedible. So after three bites of the sandwich and one bite of the salad, I decided to send it back. The whole plate was just nasty. And this is where my rating went from a 3 or 4 stars to a two. First the waitress was extremely confused. Okaaay.... So she went to talk to the cook who then came out to argue with me. I was trying hard not to be rude. I just wanted to let them know that I didn't want the sandwich and they needed to take it back. I told him that I didn't like it. He proceeds to tell me that it is everyone's favorite, their most popular sandwich. That all of their sandwiches are messy. ( The BLT and the hamburger were not. They were normal) so I tell them that despite other people liking it apparently I did not. I explained how there was too much salad dressing and that the meat tasted old to me. They acted like they had no idea what to do with this feedback. I said please just take this plate away from our table. I was not paying the bill so I do not know for sure if they charged for it or not. But yuck. Who argues with a customer? Especially when it's about taste and perceived quality, as we all have different taste buds that's why there's a menu of different options available at restaurants! I worked in restaurants for many years of my life. I hate sending things back and I don't do it unless it is really bad or really not what I ordered. It's very uncomfortable to be confrontational at all with anyone at any time, but the reality is when we are paying for something we want it to be good and if it is not good we need to be able to speak up about it and hold them accountable to an inferior quality product. They made that very difficult.

It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

Inside there's the actual bar area that's low lit and more intimate and a bigger seating area with huge TV screens. Cocktails were good. We went with the Spicy Lil Burro which was a spicy margarita with honey and lime. The Nikkei Margarita which was a tamarind margarita was also solid. Started with the Brussels Sprouts which had the perfect glaze and the almonds added an extra crunch to them. The Fish-N-Chips were fresh and perfectly battered. Fries golden crispy. The Yard Birds was the winner of the night. Succulent and juicy inside but crunchy on the outside. Great portion of chicken. The biscuit was fluffy and paired well with the hot honey and chicken. The Mac salad was okay. It had a little flavor out of the ordinary that didn't taste great. Service was good and attentive. The inside has a nice modern look and there is a lounge to the side open for happy hour. We sat in there which has its own bar. It is very cozy. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and I ordered the French Onion soup with a bacon grilled cheese. Our waiter started off well but when he came to get our orders he didn't write anything down and I had to repeat myself twice. The first time he was facing my husband, the second he came to my side and I pointed at the menu while slowly repeating my order. I simply wanted a grilled cheese with bacon added no avocado as it is advertised as an add on, on the menu. As he walked away a part of me knew my order was going to be messed up. Low and behold my soup arrives with a side of bacon. I then explained again what I ordered. A few moments pass and he comes back and then my husband explains what I wanted. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier but it just didn't seem to register. I truly did not think asking for soup & bacon grilled cheese would be so difficult. By this time my husband had already received his salad which was delicious. Finally, he comes back with my soup, a grilled cheese and the bacon ON THE SIDE. If I ordered a bacon grilled cheese why would you give me like this? Why not make my grilled cheese and add the bacon inside? To make matters worse the French onion soup was so bland not even salt could save it. It tasted like a nothingness broth. The grilled cheese was better once I made it myself. The waiter never came back to check on us. The manager hovered by for a while but we had to even flag him down for the check. I left hungry and got a meal at the airport. Would not recommend. If you can't remember an order as a waiter please just write it down.

I can't recommend if enough because the food was phenomenal! Our favorites were for sure the beef carpaccio, chicken wings and blackened catfish! Bone marrow was good just wasn't for me, garlic prawns were decent but wasn't too flavorful. I'd come back a thousand times for the blackened catfish and beef carpaccio. If you're going to get anything get those two! Service is shared and everyone helps each other which means you're never really waiting too long for anything. Cocktails came out quick and were great. I'd definitely be coming back!

Wow What an adventure! MUA has set the stage for all of the yummy food I expect to have in Oakland!…read moreSuch a great place as my first eatery as a new bay area resident. Arrived on time for my 8:00pm reservation and while people were definitely in ther having a good time, it was a quieter evening. Which was great since I really got to soak in the ambiance of this place. Incredible art lined the walls (very basquiat-esque), great chill music, tons of decor and huge giant mirrors in the back of the place to make it look much bigger. Low lights and calm energy also, definitely my favorite kind of restaurant vibes. To start off, i, of course had to grab a cocktail. I started off with the Crazy Pisco which was great! Super smooth, a little sour, and delicious. For food, we had such a great few dishes to share: Beef Carpaccio - This was so good! I'm a huge lover of any kind of carpaccio so this one hit all of the cylinders for me. Thinly sliced and yummy with an arugula salad to pair it with. Delicious! Mushroom Crostini - I am so happy I am a fully formed adult who got over her hatred of mushrooms because this was too good! What can I say...Yummy mushrooms, crispy bread, and a delicious sauce. I was a happy camper! This also had some arugula paired with it. Chicken Wings - These were the fan favorite of the bunch! Give me a chicken wing with some great sauce and im your forever. Yummy, sweet sticky sauce baked into some great chicken wings. We fought over a few pieces for sure. Bone Marrow - Simple, delicious, fatty, yummy. The bone marrow was totally great with some toasted bread. Super happy with this one. I've officially given up dessert for Port. So I had to finish the night off with one. Perfect ending to such a wonderful meal. Lovely time over at MUA! The vibes were immaculate, the service was wonderful, and the food was amazing. Super great intro to the food scene in Oakland!
