great little spot! was easy to find street parking (albeit it was 11pm on a Thursday night) and we wanted to get a bite to eat after work. [I do want to mention we had a couple of caucasians in our group before I start going into detail on spice level and flavors] spicy chicken with cheese: this came out first and it was phenomenal. the green onions soaked into the sauce was a nice little palatte cleanser and the cheese was a nice touch to balance the salty/spicy flavors fried chicken: sweet and spicy: very sticky sauce that was gochujang forward fried chicken: garlic and pepper: this was very flavorful and very crispy still. comes with sliced jalapenos that gave it a nice kick. kimchi fried rice with cheese corn: mix this baby up! all of the flavors and cheese melt together nicely - but do be warned you should eat it in a timely manner. if the cheese hardens you can request the servers to re-torch it for that cheese pull :) we also ordered the seafood chive pajeon (pancake) but I didn't get a taste or a picture of it. based on not having any time to take a picture or get a bite of it - it must have been delicious. everyone else was drinking somaek (soju and beer - terra) which I've been told goes fantastic with korean fried chicken. I stuck to classic korean pear juice and was not disappointed. even with getting extra beer, our total was about $180 before tip between 5 people with no leftovers. they're open super late! will definitely be back soon :) read more

I was craving some Korean fried chicken in Oakland, and I didn't want to go to bb.q Chicken because last time I ate there, they had too much packaging waste. Because of that, I decided to try Hanshin Pocha last Friday at around 7 p.m. It was very empty, so we were able to choose our table. As they removed the extra plate on the table, I told them I brought my own chopsticks, so they could take away those, too, and use them for another table. There was an iPad at the table that made ordering convenient. My party of two got the following: Carbonara Rice Cake - Tasted great! It was flavorful, and the rice cakes were chewy. One of the best Asian fusion dishes I've ever had. Korean Fried Chicken (Garlic & Pepper) - Standard fare. This had a good fry, though some of the chicken pieces were white meat, so they weren't as tasty. What they did was chop up a whole chicken and fry the pieces. While I was disappointed about the less tasty white meat, I did appreciate that they used more of the chicken. Beef Soft Tofu Stew - This also tasted like standard fare, so it was decent. They didn't say it was spicy on the ordering tablet, but it was a little bit spicy. We did end up having leftovers, so I packed them away in my glass Pyrex containers from the car. One thing I loved, but didn't need, was their seats can flip open so you can store your stuff inside. Amazing! Overall, the food is fairly average, aside from the Carbonara Rice Cakes, which was fantastic. I love the amount of reusable foodware that they used (see Eco Notes below), and I will come back for that Carbanara. I'm honestly shocked I haven't reviewed Hanshin Pocha yet because I've been here at least five times this year... and I keep coming back for one dish and one dish only: THE. CHICKEN. FEET. Why are they so good?! This was actually my first time having Korean-style chicken feet. I've only had them at Taiwanese/Chinese dim sum spots before, but these are next level. Spicy, flavorful, and the seasoning gets into every bit of that gelatinous goodness. My only complaint is that when I shower later, my lips still feel the burn... but also it's like a fun reminder of the deliciousness I just experienced, so I'm not even mad. Other reccs: Spicy pork with cheese: my partner's favorite! Marinated crab: solid Chicken gizzard with fries: surprisingly addictive One miss: the oden soup. Not sure if we caught a bad batch, but it had that freezer-burn taste and I couldn't finish it (which says a lot because I'm usually anti-food-waste). Everything else we've tried over multiple visits has been great though. Overall, it was an awesome late-night spot with tasty bites, good vibes, and food that hits even harder after a few drinks. Run don't walk to Hanshin Pocha. This is the epitome of Korean street/comfort food. Definitely come with a group of people so that you can get as many dishes as possible to split. Everything on the menu is delicious. But I highly recommend getting the pork mozzarella cheese fondue (they also have one if you're not a pork person). It has the perfect balance of cheesy hot goodness with the savoriness of the meat. Another go to is the Korean fried chicken. It is perfectly fried with a nice crispy exterior and perfectly cooked meat. If seafood is more of your personal taste they have a grilled whole squid that is never overcooked and has a small amount of a kick to it. For a fun hands on activity get the DIY rice ball. Something about putting the gloves on and forming them yourself make them taste just that much better. There is a little private lot behind the building, but also plenty of street parking. Extremely Disappointed in the lack of care for customers. We ordered the seafood pancake since most of our table does not eat pork. They give us a "pork" pancake which had eggshells in the pancake. Our table had issues with the tab where the orders were confused with a different table and the servers first response was, "YOU ordered it, so YOU have to eat it." We ended up calling the manager and talking to people on the other table, and got it figured out, but that experience was incredible rude. I was craving Korean fried chicken one night after work, and checked google and TikTok to see what my best options were since it was kind of late at night (10pm). To my surprise, Hanshin Pocha was top rated on both Google and TikTok. There were lots of people on TikTok raving about this restaurant all over the country, (It seems to be a chain). So I decided to give it a shot. At first glance, this late night eatery is pretty cute. It has a bit of a vibe to it, playing K-pop in the background and bright with different colored neon lights. I really enjoyed the ambience. It felt fun. When it comes to the food, I'm not exactly sure how to feel. This was my first experience in this type of Korean restaurant. I've had Korean food before, but I've never had the dishes I had smothered in mozzarella cheese and what not. I'm really not sure how I felt about it. I love cheese, and I do love Korean food, but I don't know that I loved them together. Just my preference. The menu is huge. So there are lots of dishes to choose from. They don't all have cheese on them. I just chose what seemed to be the most popular on TikTok like the kimchi fried rice, and the chicken of course. If I'm being completely honest, I didn't love the chicken. The sauce wasn't bad, but my boyfriend kept comparing it to ketchup, and that left a bad taste in my mouth. It just wasn't quite what I was hoping for or expecting when ordering Korean fried chicken. But I suppose there are several ways you can do it. So I'm not trying to knock them, it just wasn't my favorite. I loved the presentation of the kimchi fried rice. It looked so good. And it was tasty, it was just hard to eat with all of the mozzarella cheese, burnt to the bottom of the skillet. It felt like we had to scrape the dish off of the plate that it served on. And that's while it was hot. Don't let it cool down, because then the cheese congealed into a rock solid form, and it's almost impossible to eat after that. Even when I tried to reheat it at home, it could not be brought back to life. We also tried the fried potstickers. And I don't think I took any notes on them. I can hardly remember what I thought about them, so I'm going to say they were forgettable. That doesn't mean they were bad. They were just average potstickers I guess. One of my favorite things about this place is their hours for starters. I love a late night restaurant. So I really appreciate them for being open as late as they are. And secondly, I really appreciated their drink options. They had a lot of different Korean beverages that you don't typically find on menus, such as pear juice, and pocari sweat. All in all, despite my opinions on the food, I think this place is definitely worth checking out. While I might not have loved something, I could absolutely see why somebody else might enjoy it. We ordered the following items and it was more than enough for the 4 of us. - Cheese Pork BBQ - the pork was tender and had a little kick to it and paired perfectly with the mozzarella cheese. - Hanshin Chicken - a whole chicken that is extremely crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It even comes with seasoning on the side to dip the chicken in. - Stir-Fried Seafood - loved the crispy fried noodles and all the seafood that came with it but could have used a bit more flavor. This is a go-to place for me and my friends! I've been here multiple times. Today, I came with a bigger party to celebrate a friend's birthday! We split order by different tables, since we were a big group! All the food and alcohol was good , except service was a bit slow for my table specifically. I've been wanting to try soy marinated crab, and see they had it here so I couldn't pass it up. It was good, a tad salty, and sad that it didn't have roe and didn't come with the shell. I loved the texture of the crab meat, it was very soft. It comes with a serving of rice and a side of seaweed. I got a diy rice that comes with daikon, sesame seeds, and shredded seaweed pieces, and mayo to eat with the crab. I also asked for a side of sesame oil. I squeezed the crab meat into the diy rice mixture and mixed it up to eat. The crab itself was a 3.5/5. The diy rice was a 4/5. We also got the chicken, that was so delicious. It's a whole fried chicken but they fried in pieces. The flavor was delicious and I love how it was slightly spicy but not on fire spicy. Chicken was a 4.5/5! Wish it was cooked more for tender chewiness. It was on the tougher side. But the flavor was good. One of the better seafood pancakes I've had. Corn cheese comes with pork potstickers so the presentation was good. Added bell peppers slightly ruined the taste of a classic cheesy corn. Next time, will ask to withhold bell peppers. Whole fried chicken was lacking seasoning and the meat tasted dried. Chicken butthole aka gizzard was good. Loved the generous garlic portion. Served with a side of sesame/salt/pepper sauce which enhanced the butthole. Spicy mussel jjamppong was tasty. Extremely salty though. But with a balanced seasoning, this will be my go-to. They added pork meat which was a little disappointing as I didn't notice the description mentioning any pork. As someone who's allergic to pork, this was a surprise. My fiancée and I really liked this place! He got off work really, really late and needed to find a place that was open late. Hanshin stays open until just past midnight. Luckily we found street parking right in the front at around 1030pm. We got seated right away. It's such a fun, lively spot! They play music and people are def enjoying soju/beer with their meals. They give you a flashing light to turn on when you need attention. We ordered soy marinated crab, fried chicken, galbi, and kim chi rice. Portions are large and probably could've fed 6 people with the amount we ordered. My favorite was the crab, I've never had it before. I've gone twice now in the last two years, so I'm not a frequent visitor, but each time, the food and ambiance has been amazing. I went a few weeks ago and was surprised to see that it was not as crowded as it was when I visited the year prior. However, I did go a bit earlier than the usual drinking crowd. Service continued to be stellar, and everything we ordered - kimchi fried rice, fish cake soup, Korean style popcorn chicken, and rice cakes were sooo good. The sweet-spicy glaze hits all the right notes Then the Cheese-covered Spicy Chicken ("Cheese Waterfall") - This dish is a showstopper. We ordered several dishes to share: beef belly tteokbokki, kimchi jeongol, sweet and spicy korean fried chicken, 2 fried rice and 1 white rice. Everything was absolutely delicious! All the flavors were on point. I wish I can handle spicy more so I can eat more of everything! The prices for the portion sizes were fairly reasonable. 10/10 recommend! My friends were craving Friday late night fried chicken after our friend's wedding, so we decided to make a stop at Hanshin since I've seen good things about it on Instagram Reels but never had a reason to go to Oakland!! It worked out quite well, we ordered two orders of fried chicken with fries and kimchi fried rice. Really nice ambiance. My friends and I got take out to take to our AirBNB a few minutes away and it took around 10-15 minutes to come out for us, but I definitely feel like I missed out on a good experience! The fried chicken was made with dark meat and very juicy/well breaded. Fries were kinda eh, not really any seasoning or flavor on them. Texture was okay, like fresh McDonald's fries (no soggy ones, to my discontent). The kimchi fried rice sat on a bed of cheese, which ended up hardening and taking on the form of the plastic to-go container since typically they're supposed to sit on a hot plate when you order it in the restaurant (duh). I wish we just got a good portion of kimchi fried rice instead of an obscene amount of cheese- even if it sat on a hot plate, the amount was frankly overwhelming and seemed like a cash grab to keep profit margins up? Which is strange, considering kimchi fried rice is also inexpensive. That's the only explanation I can come up with. Came here after a concert at midnight - they closed at 1230am but we made it for last call! Love the vibe, very clean interior with round tables like the ones you see in K-dramas in the center and more spacious booths along the walls. Servers were nice enough even though we came in so late. The menu is extensive with nice pictures of all the food. Pricing is to be expected - $15-25 for larger plates. I loved the pork jiggae or stew. Came out with a large portion piping hot. Nice chunks of pork and sausage with that quintessential sour kimchi taste. The pepper chicken was good but a bit more soggy than I am used to eating at more traditional Korean fried chicken joints. I wanted a little more crunch. It's a HUGE portion though! The corn cheese Mandu was tasty. I liked the addition of fried Mandu on top. The kimchi fried rice was a miss to me because it was surrounded by too much cheese. I normally like it just on its own with more rice. The cheese was overwhelming. Good for late night eats. This is just based on my DoorDash delivery order and I have not dined in person. I haven't tried soy sauce marinated raw crab before, but plenty of the spicy marinated kind especially when I lived in LA. I have been wanting to try since I see it all over social media and wanted to see if it lived up to the hype. And it did not disappoint at all and I am so glad I was able to try it here. The flavor is perfectly balanced, and the crab meat is so creamy and with the rice mix that you pay extra for all blended together, it's just amazing. I would definitely be ordering from here again if I am in the area. Next time I would order two so I can have more leftovers! read more
