I really wanted to love tbis place as I was so happy for it to come back. It is so true they have amazing rolls and doughnuts, however they need to stick to that. Their attempt at soup and sandwiches is a complete failure. I was there with a friend and we ordered the pannini. We then we watched as a poorly organzined staff floundered around waiting customers. Hans has SERIOUS customer service issues. Even the manager on duty looked rather lost. 35 minutes later when the young man making our sandwiches decided to stop wandering around, we were served two stone cold panninis. He also forgot the soup. We had to ask for that ourselves. When we left we ran into 5 others who had the misfortune of ordering a sandwich and they we upset at the service as well. I used to get off the school bus going to Fred Moore and run over to grab a quick treat! Hans used to be rather dark and dreary but tasty so I didn't care as a 13 year old. They really stepped up the place with the remodeling and it tastes just as yummy as I remember! The lines can be annoying but worth it, everyone's always so impatient now days. Beestings are my favorite by far and anything with sprinkles! Or the custard filled ones are yummy! I recommend this place to everyone when looking for cakes or treats. read more

I spent my entire lunch break waiting in line. This was my first trip to Hans' since you've reopened. Actually I should say this is the first time I've gone into the shop, as I have either driven by or gotten up to the door to see too many people in line and a long wait and gave up. I know you have not been open long, but you have a few kinks to work on. Let me start out by saying something nice -- the store looks great and is clean and bright! Now to the items of contention: You have too many tables (especially the great big one-- even though it is a cool table). Nobody likes to sit and eat their donut while people waiting in line are brushing up against them with their coats and purses and butts. You need to change the configuration so that there is a rope system right in front of the cases- like at the bank so people waiting can look at the stuff in the cases and do their thinking and then be served and rung up. Either that or get a number system ! Also, I observed several employees standing around in the back and 3 people standing by the register doing nothing. (one guy with a beard and buzz cut just wiped the same spot on the counter the whole time I was there and looked out onto the huge line). One person at a time was being served which was ridiculous, since you had ample staff present. Also your staff seemed to be sleepwalking. No greeting, no smiles -- the young man with the beard and longer hair was not even looking at me and I had to ask him if I could tell him the next item I wanted (shouldn't he have had a hat on by the way?). The cases were approaching empty, even though I observed racks and racks of baked items behind the counter.All those people in the back an nobody thought they should fill up the cases again! I felt like people should have had a fire lit under them to hop to it and serve the customers. None of the employees seemed to have any sense of urgency about serving customers. Several times while waiting in line I observed people coming up to the door, seeing the line and leaving! (just like I had done before). I went there to get bee stings, date cookies and maple long johns with bacon. Upon being rung up, the receipt jammed in the receipt printer and it took 2 people (the buzzcut wiper guy and the counter girl MINUTES to try to thread the paper in the machine). I politely asked if they could just rip my receipt off and give it to me since I was now running LATE! They acted like it was something they couldn't do!!!!! Ugh. I can never count on being able to swing by in the morning before going to the office to pick up treats and actually getting to work on time! After all that I tasted the bacon topped maple long john -- it was very small and did not have enough maple frosting on it. The date cookies did not have a enough date filling. I have not tasted the bee stings yet. The prices are higher than the average bakery, and the items are smaller. I'm afraid this visit was not worth the wait! :( read more

I come here for the maple bacon long john. Other than that, I think the pace is average. The doughnuts taste like something I can pick up at the gas station or grocery store, the Texas donut is huge, but that's where the coolness factor ends. The beehive or beesting is good, but not great....the cream tastes like they just use a vanilla pudding packet and the bread is dry. One of the biggest annoyances is the store layout. You don't really get to browse. The parking lot is small, so not much luck if the place is busy. read more

I have been known to make up reasons to drop one of my kids off at school, so I can swing in for a tasty treat (Fred Moore Middle Schools is across the street). My addiction got so bad at one point that the servers behind the counter knew my order before I would say it... I admit, I have a problem. These donuts have ruined other donuts for me... I used to swing into a gas station every once in a while... no more. I go out of my way for these. Usually 2, sometimes 3, sprinkle glazed. Fluffy and sweet. I really enjoy the original recipes of Hans' as I grew up with them and went to school at Sandburg. However, since the new owner has taken over I can see and taste a definite difference. I think the way you treat your staff is a reflection of yourself and I have seen and heard firsthand, Kelly (the owner) lie to customers ie: they didn't make a customers special order so the owner had a staff member go purchase a similar item at the bakery of Lunds/Byerlys in Orono. I've also heard her speak to her staff in some pretty unsettling ways. They go through staff by the dozens in a month and change ppl's hours the day before their shift. Yep, the food is good. But at what cost for the mistreatment and abuse of employees. Go to Taste of Scandanavia instead if you want fresh pastries and a clear conscious. read more

I am giving 3 stars because their donuts are delicious and worth every penny. However, their ordering online is awful and not even worth 1 star. I can completely understand needing to give 48 hours for large orders, but I only wanted to order 11 donuts. It also did not state that I needed to give 48-hour notice for donuts. However, it does say if you are ordering cakes, cupcakes, and bread please give 48-hour notice. I was really looking forward to just picking up my order since it is a busy holiday weekend, but very disappointed with their website and advertising. read more

Hans is a very traditional bakery. It's great if you're a local, but not worth a trip coming from outside Anoka. It's priced reasonable, as it's donuts are double the size and much better tasting than a gaz station or even Glam Dolls donuts. read more

Hans has been in Anoka forever, so when I moved out of state and found out they closed, I was so sad! We came home for a visit and were so excited they reopened, we had to stop. It was 12:30 pm on a Friday. They were putting out fresh pastries, and so the cases were full. Years ago I remember it was crowded and smoke-filled. The pastries were awesome, but used to have to take them to go. Still a nice little crowd, but plenty of seating & no smoke!!! The lines weren't too long, and they had 4 girls taking orders so the line was moving pretty fast. The bacon maple long john was delicious, but even better (believe it or not) was the lemon cupcake! I meant to stop at Cupcake on University (that was my old go-to, except last time I wasn't very impressed), but since stopping at Hans, no need to take the trip! Super moist, but didn't fall apart, and the frosting was not too sweet and there was raspberry filling inside. I was really impressed, most places have certain things they specialize in, but everything at Hans is awesome!! read more

The beehive is the signature item. It is fabulous !!! There have been imitators but this is the best. Prices may seem higher but the quality is amazing. The maple bacon long john ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. You make friends with the people in line. Everyone has stories about there history with the bakery. So glad to see the old Hans recipes in a new clean and happy environment. It is well worth the drive and is open on Sundays. 5 YUMS UP! read more

I grew up having Han's bakery items as a treat... the original. It was exciting when these owners took over and were able to get the original recipes! Most items taste just as I remember them being in the 80's, 90's and even early 2000... especially the beehives and whipped cheesecake. The reason for the 2 star rating is pricing and lack of products. Almost $20 for a dozen doughnuts, or 3 doughnuts for $5 is crazy. Yes I understand they use quality products, it's a specialty and they actually bake fresh at the Anoka location. You can pay around the same price for pastries on the other end of Main street at the Swedish Crown bakery for all natural products with a wide variety for those with dietary restrictions. Han's has been out of cheesecake every time I've stopped in for almost 2 months now. It's rather frustrating making a special detour to stop by and not have what you're looking for. Especially when it's for a special celebration that's since long passed. The staff is always very friendly and the atmosphere is great. I just wish the few cons would be worked on. Maybe post on Facebook that they won't have certain items, or only on certain days would be helpful. Or a punch card or something to get a break on pricing. read more

This place has been a staple in Anoka since it opened and was very much missed for the last decade as it was closed or under different management that thought people wanted grocery store quality donuts. People go to Han's because it serves high quality donuts made from old recipes and besides tasting great its something different from what everyone else has. I had a Texas donut today that as good or better than the last time I had one back in the 90's from Hans. I will definitely be back for more. read more

Very pricey for what you get .I have been to cheaper bakeries with fresher quality. The little other bakeries only charged $4 a dozen( chocolate frosted raised glazed, raised glazed, old fashioned, blueberry, and creme old fashioned) for donuts and they were great .Han's is charging up $17 . Visited Hans' for first time since it reopened and were disappointed at the service, the cleanliness (or lack thereof) and inefficiency of the operation. Pastries were wonderful, but there were 25 people in line at 9:00 a.m. and only 2 people working behind the counter. One very slow man helping customers and a cashier. Another clerk came to help but the inefficiency was unbelievable. The clerk asks you what you want and runs back and forth to fill your order. The display cases are beautiful to look at but the clerks have to bend way over and peer inside to find what you are asking for. Once your order is filled (and no one bought just one doughnut), the clerk walks down to the cash register and stands there and tells the cashier what is in the bag you bought (or the box) and then the cashier rings it up. So the clerk has to stand and wait for the cashier to ring up the order before you until she can tell the cashier what you are getting. In the meantime, the line of 25 people behind you gets longer and longer. Come on, folks. Write the amount on the bag and let me hand it to the cashier and she can ring it up. The trash can was overflowing and the tables and chairs were dirty. We had to use a napkin to clean off the table and chairs we were using before we could sit down. I know this is a new owner who is learning her way, but it's pretty obvious that some of what was put in place didn't anticipate the size of her customer base and the need for more help than she has. Don't know that we'll go back. To be that busy at 9:00 on a Thursday ... what does it say about their weekend service? read more
