We attended a pop up bar/show called Shipwreck Saloon here this past weekend. We weren't sure what to expect but you always have a vision in your head. Well, it was nothing like the vision I had and when it began, I thought I would be disappointed but I am glad to say I wasn't. It was a simple stage and the best way to describe it is a 4 part story telling about the life of a pirate who opened Shipwreck Saloon. It was entertaining and funny and there was some hilarious audience participation. In between the 4 parts, a different rum cocktail was served which were good. I would recommend this show if you find it in your area. It was something different for an evening out and was entertaining!

Such a great girls day seeing "The Cottage" starring my BILs cousin, Becca Blacksten! Great job!!

What a nice, cozy little theatre!! Loved the quaint atmosphere! Definitely worth the experience!!

We recently held a gala of about 120ish people for a small non profit. The staff were helpful and kind. The food was hot and delicious. We needed in a little early and it wasn't an inconvenience. We requested coffee service late notice and were met with wonderful professionalism and help! Shout out to Krissy & her staff. Thank you Hanover Tavern for being so lovely! We would definitely use this venue again. --Millie's Home

A fun night out to see a show in the theater and have dinner. So nice you can do both here. The food was really good and we love the small intimate nature of the theater. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Limited parking in the lot for a busy night but plenty of parking across the street. Well made cocktails as well.

Very cool ambiance and I enjoyed learning some of the history. The food was fantastic. I had the oyster Benedict and it was absolutely delicious. Service is very slow, but we also had a big party on a busy Sunday brunch timeframe. The server was very nice, but just not necessarily in a hurry. I loved learning some of the history of the building. They were hosting a bridal show later that day, so they were just beginning to set up for that, as well. There were lots of things on the menu that looked absolutely delicious. Pricing was reasonable, if not a little expensive, but the quality of the food was top notch. Everyone in my party was satisfied with their meals.

While we found a shaded table with a nice breeze outdoors, the chairs were wet and the table was tilted, so we ultimately opted to dine inside. Inside, a band was setting up for music later in the evening, and they boast a large selection of beers on tap. Despite the indoor area being almost full, we were waited on quickly, and our food arrived promptly. For my main course, I had a classic burger (normally served with cheese). Since I prefer no pink, I ordered it without any pink element, which was great as it kept the flavor clean. The exterior had a nice char that added depth to the flavor. The burger was served with thick slices of tomato, onion, and lettuce, a small amount of mustard, and on the side were jalapeno and hot dill pickles. The seasoned fries were very good, though they were slightly too salty for my taste (I'm not a big salt person). If you need to limit your sodium intake, I suggest skipping the seasoned fries. My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos, which were delicious and beautifully encrested. While she found the coating flavor was unusual with tuna initially, adding lime juice made it perfect. When I tried a piece, we noticed that the tuna might have been cooked on the same surface as my burger, picking up some of the char, which added an interesting element. Overall, the service was excellent throughout, and both our meals were enjoyable and served hot and quickly. The atmosphere is lively, filled with customers enjoying the music. We didn't stay for the band (which I'm sure would have enhanced the mood), but we noted that the outdoor tables are quieter and suitable for families--though this might change later in the evening. This spot is perfect whether you're looking for a quick meal or an enjoyable evening with live music.

The spicy chips on the side were also great, and much better than the standard fries that seem to come with everything at these types of places. Its a good option right off the highway for a stop.

Their famous short rib egg rolls were a bit burned on the outside so a bit dry on the inside. They did have a very good sauce served with them that pretty well covered the flaws. The risotto that came with my duck leaned a little too far to the mushy side. The duck itself was really good. My niece had the salmon, and she had no complaints. First, I checked out the menu that is posted on the wall, and tried to make the right decision. EVERYTHING is homemade. Ok, I decided on the Tuna Salad on a white homemade yeast roll. You can select one side, so I had cucumber, tomato and onion salad. I couldn't pass up on fresh lemonade and a slice of one of the most delicious coconut pie I've ever had. The lady that took my order was soooo sweet and of course knowledgeable of the menu. I didn't feel rushed, just relaxed. Soooo we had the most interesting conversation that concluded her parents knew my mother back in the day. I didn't expect tears of joy at lunch. It was lovely! I didn't get her name, but I'll never forget her until I return with friends and family to experience this "small town" treasure. Ok, the food. The roll was golden brown, soft and screamed HomeMade. It was filled with a white flaky and well seasoned tuna salad, topped with fresh crunchy shredded lettuce. YUM ! The cucumber, grape tomato and onion salad had a lite vinaigrette dressing. Fresh !! There is freshly made strawberry lemonade, lemonade, Iced tea and the Pepsi fountain drink products. Ok, the star of the show. That slice of coconut pie was Perfect. The crust was brown, very flaky and filled with a thick creamy coconut filling. This little cute old town restaurant is next to the railroad track and train station that's across from Randolph Macon College. It's popular to the students and residents of Ashland. It's a beautiful evening, I sit outside and place my order. Husband wife owners make their way over to introduce themselves separately. We engage in small talk. The first two courses come and are delicious. Someone then brings a scallop appetizer and I say no I had the entree because I am looking forward to the risotto. The waitress comes to apologize for putting in the appetizer instead of entree and says dessert is on me. The entree comes out and the balsamic glaze made the scallops look seared but they weren't and a couple of the larger ones were less than fully cooked. What I ate was very tasty and briny. The risotto was superb. Alex, the owner, comes over to ask how things are so I tell him the flavor of the scallops is excellent and fresh, I just with they seared better. He could see I was trimming and eating the edge. He thanks me for the input and disappears. Mary Ann, the owner, comes by to ask how things are and I tell her the same thing. She says let me bring you something else like a bowl of pasta. I tell her not a bowl just a saucer so I can taste it. She heads off. Alex returns with two scallops cooked to perfection. A few minutes later Mary Ann returns with a full bowl of bolognese pasta. Later the waitress returns with my apple pie dessert which was outstanding! When the waitress brings the bill she explains the scallops were removed from the check and replaced with the pasta (lower price). The dessert was complimentary. She got a great tip. They went above and beyond to ensure I was satisfied and this is what all restaurants should do. Because of that I'll be back. Well if they weren't closing October 25. So with reservations- we made it. What a great looking place. Wonderful patio and outside seating. The indoor dining areas aren't too shabby either. Using an old farmhouse as a restaurant gives a really neat ambiance. The service: All the ladies were very friendly and attentive. Our glasses stayed full. Clearly the kitchen staff were also on their game. Our meals came out to us in maybe 12-13 minutes. The food was delicious. I had a steak, red mashed potatoes and asparagus. I do wish they gave maybe another scoop of potatoes. That portion seemed a bit small. But the overall dinner was fair for the price. The asparagus was nicely cooked. The steak was cooked just as ordered and was tender, without any gristle. The wifey had the fettuccine Bolognese. She really loved it. I also need to mention the large bourbon section, which the wifey had one with dinner. It was a speciality Old Fashion but I can't recall the name. But the wifey says it was perfect. So our first visit was a hit and I'm sure we will be back. Make a reservation and give it a try for yourself.
