Staying at the International Hotel Killarney, we were exhausted from our travels and decided to eat at Hannigans which has an entrance right in the hotel lobby. Noreen was our server and she took such great care of us. She offered great recommendations and suggestions--also was prompt in making sure we had everything we needed. The food was absolutely superb. I had the goat cheese appetizer, duck and chocolate and orange dessert. Everything was amazing and I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. One of the best meals we have had in Ireland. Brendan was top service. Lamb roast of the day and duck were outstanding. Dark wooden sides and sunken ceiling with tartan coverings was an excellent vibe with a hot brandy after a cool day. Would highly recommend and go back. read more

But anyways, the ambience is a tad nicer than your casual dinners but you don't have to dress up. I ordered the seafood chowder, smoked salmon croquette and salmon with prawns and scallops. I checked in on yelp and showed them the free coffee option. They said okay and gave it to me then a few minutes later another guy comes to us and informs us they don't honor it..it would be nice to have mentioned that before giving me the coffee. They charged 8.50 for a cup of coffee! Not cool. The food was okay. I loved the mixture of breads they served. All was delicious and tasted freshly baked. You can get refills too! The smoked salmon croquette barely had salmon in it. It tasted like a fried dough. The shrimp was very salty and the scallops weren't as light and fluffy as I hoped. I loved the hollandaise sauce but found it strange that it was solidified. The sauce was still great though. Never thought about pairing that with the fish but I guess it's common for breakfast - smoked salmon eggs benedict. So why so many stars if everything was just average? Well the service was speedy and the presentation for all the dishes were good but the most important part was the seafood chowder. Hands down, the BEST seafood chowder I've ever had. I could drink this everyday. It was perfect chowder. Thick chunks of seafood and it was so creamy. The flavor was so rich and ahh I could drink gallons of these. We were also fooled by the big piece of fish - we thought it was potato..We loved the soup. The entree also came with sides of either chips or mash with vegetables. We went with the mash and vegetables and eh. The mash sucked. It was so dry and reminded me of boxed mash. The veggies were very oily. It was probably stir fried. Not one star because the tables are well spaced, the internet works, and the wifi is good, but: - The 'early bird special' evening menu was more expensive than alla Carte, for the items that I wanted. - the service was highly chaotic: Waiter 1 gave the menu, waiter 2 took the order, waiter 3 brought the starter, waiter 4 one cleaned the table after starter, waiter 5(!) brought the main course (and didn't know who ordered what). - When the table was cleaned, no: 'how was it?' - the starter was brought out 90 seconds after ordering it. The main minutes after finishing the starter. The bill was on the table literally 30 seconds after declining a desert. We were actually just discussing a drink as a desert. The bill was then taken away again and we had our drinks (drinks that were not served at the same time). - We saw a gentleman on the table next to us trying to get the attention of the waiter (with a stretched arm!) for minutes. None of the waiters saw him. - worst of all: my flat green beans were with the tips on them! And the thread that needs to come off, still on. Unbeatable.. read more

For 15 euros you get your stomache filled with tasty meat (also more expensive stuff available). Dont know how an irish stew should taste, but this was totally worth ordering. Location: easy to get by feet from nearly everywhere in Killarney. I tried this location because if the good yelp rating and didnt get dissapointed. Everything clean. There are plenty of dining options to pick from in Killarney, each one offering up something different for its guests. Maybe you want a laid-back bar to drink in under the dim lights. Or maybe you want to go somewhere that is a little more upscale with warm lighting giving way to an even warmer experience in a sprawling dining room. And maybe you want to go somewhere that combines both of those into one of the best dining choices you could find in Ireland. If that last option sounds about right, then Hannigans should be on your list of places to try. Four of us had reservations at another nearby place, which shall remain nameless, and we canceled them in the afternoon to come here. You probably will not need reservations for the dining room here, but it is nice that they offer them. And actually, finding the dining room can be a bit of a challenge depending on what door you come in through. The place is semi-attached to a hotel, but you can walk into the bar area from the street. And through the modestly sized bar sits a doorway leading into the dining room. We were in the bar for maybe 30 seconds, and that was to get to the dining room. The bar gets busy with locals and tourists alike, but the dining room was wide open when we stopped in. And it's nice, too! Bright lighting accentuates the wooden walls, plush booths and armchairs you can sit upon. Perhaps the best part is the seats are at a reasonable distance from one another, meaning you can stretch and not run the risk of accidentally punching someone in the back of the head. And you may want to stretch out after sampling some of the outstanding food on offer. From start to finish, everything our group tasted ranked as some of the best food we had during our two-week visit. In fact, the brown bread provided here was the best we had anywhere else around the country. So if beer and brown bread are your go-to dining choices, you will be in Heaven. (Possibly literally depending on how much you consume.) Which is not to discount the rest of the meal: celery and leek soup was a great precursor to an even greater main course. Chicken stir fry with basmati rice, honey and soy was reviewed favorably by two in our party, while the lemon sole and a burger big enough to physically harm you if it fell on you definitely hit the spot for the rest of us. And because we are in the habit of our eyes being bigger than our stomachs, we had to get dessert. Lemon meringue remoulade and a Bailey's cheesecake made for a terrific ending to an equally terrific meal buoyed by an excellent server. Antoinette did everything right, and then some. She took the time to answer all our questions, she was always nearby to offer assistance and she was efficient beyond compare. That she did all of this with a smile and a sense of humor that could keep even the surliest guests in line is a testament to her talents. With all that in mind, Hannigans offers up a wide variety of food, drink and seating options. Whether you are here to drown your sorrows or dive into a food coma, you have a great menu and an even greater degree of service from the staff to help you accomplish your goals. read more

We had dinner here because our B&B recommended it. Our server was very helpful and pleasant. (The service they provide in Ireland is different and people don't expect tips.) The food was delicious and the ambience was great. We enjoyed our visit with them. Towards the end of the meal it was very busy and packed. It was very hard to check out. We wanted to leave, our server would say he would be a min but he wouldn't come back. We wanted to tip so that's why we waited, at the end we just paid the bill with cash and left. We felt bad not tipping, but we waiting 15-20 mins past to pay for our bill and tip. Regardless, it's totally worth it. read more

Hannigans Bar and restaurant was our first stop on a night out in Killarney. Basically I wanted alcohol ASAP and the taxi driver said this one was good. So we went in, grabbed some seats in the bar, and I ordered some booze for me and the parents. Perfect. Place was pretty dead earlier on but there were some people there speaking Irish. There were also some Americans there that didn't get the concept of the BAR and then the RESTAURANT in the back. The bartender and I exchanged a look like 'WTF' which was amusing. Also, there are hotels around, perhaps even attached, and the wifi could be used. I do like to use wifi. Basically a good place to have a pint or some whiskey and stay to eat in the restaurant or walk around Killarney. read more

My friend and I had a nice dinner at Hannigans while traveling in Ireland because it was located in our hotel and recommended by several sources. I couldn't be happier that we chose Hannigans, because it was the best meal of our trip and both the food and the service were outstanding. We each had a sirloin steak with a side of vegetables and split a bottle of cabernet sauvignon and a delicious sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The steaks were done absolutely perfectly and they threw in a side of frites as well. The only part I didn't like was the portobello mushroom, but that's a personal preference. We were given a choice of pepper sauce or garlic butter for the steak and I definitely recommend asking for both on the side. They were both delicious in very different ways and it was nice to try each of them. The service was absolutely impeccable and the atmosphere was perfect. As twenty-somethings, sometimes service can lack in nice restaurants if they aren't sure whether we really fit in there. This was not the case at all at Hannigans. We were treated with the utmost kindness and respect and had a fantastic evening. The beautiful Christmas decorations and warmth from the open fireplaces certainly didn't hurt. For anyone looking for a nice restaurant in Killarney, I cannot recommend Hannigans enough. If I'm lucky enough to get back to Ireland again, I'd love to return. read more

Came here for lunch with my wife in our honeymoon trip - it was so good we came back for dinner a few nights later. The foods we had were the Vegetable Stir Fry, Chargrilled Fillet of Chicken, the BLT on Brown Bread, the Mixed Vegetable Soup (it was more of a cream-based puréed soup), and the Chicken Stir Fry. All delicious. The seating is also very comfortable. Bonus points for leaving the pitcher of water at the table - after a hard day of hiking Carrantuohill, the gesture is much appreciated! So good the first time, we came back again! This time, in addition to having their outstanding Irish Coffee, we had dinner, as well. We opted for the early bird specials, which were very reasonably priced. The manager waited on us personally (it was a little slow) and he was simply delightful. We started off with the Deep Fried Brie and it tasted just as we had hoped - decadent! Moved on to the Mussels in garlic wine sauce and was positively swooning (Irish mussels are THE BEST!). We went for Sunday lunch and had the roast turkey and ham. The food was very nice and was served very fast. Quick service is a must when accompanied by a two year old! The staff also provided us with coloring pens and paper to keep our daughter entertained which was a nice touch. The food is priced very reasonably (Turkey & Ham is €12.50 and €8.50 for a child's portion) and of a high quality. When we arrived the lounge was empty save for one couple but it filled up quickly while we were eating. It never got loud but there was a level of background noise which meant you didn't have to whisper to have a private conversation. read more

I ordered the ciabatta sandwich with tomato, mozzarella , and pancetta and received the "vegetarian" version instead. My companions each ordered a meat dish and a chicken with cream sauce each and both were cold on arrival. Once the errors were taken care of, the food was fine. Staff was friendly and it's located in the heart of Killarney at the international hotel - just make sure they get your order correct.
