I've been visiting Tralee since 2003, and Kirby's has always been a welcome stop for lunch, dinner and drinks. By my last visit in 2017, there were noticeably fewer full service pubs around, so Kirby's got me for at least 3 or 4 visits. At my first lunch stop in 2017, the waitress noticed my tshirt, and we had a talk about the Dropkick Murphys. The carvery lunches were around 12 Euro but if you finish your plate you won't have to bother with dinner. Only disappointment was that they never had boiling bacon. It was a staple at every pub on our early trips, but now is mainly a staple at the Tesco grocer down the street. The food is wonderful. There was pleasant music later at night. The service & the food was great. Our waiter made us laugh a few times. I had the lasagna with house fries and a salad. The lasagna was very cheesy but still good. Also had Rose with our meal, can't go wrong with that. There was no long wait on a Friday night but it was also raining. There a lot of options on the menu which is good & for picky/indecisive people like myself. I'll definitely visit again when I go back to Ireland. read more

After all the great reviews, I was expecting a lot more. This wasn't even an average restaurant experience, much less one that has 4 plus stars. After 4 days in Ireland, this was by far the worst meal we had. Granted I do usually look up restaurants before a trip but I choose my restaurants carefully because I recognize I have a limited number of meals and don't wish to waste any. This was a waste. We came in at 8:30pm, so I understand it's late, but service was terribly slow. I confirmed the kitchen closed 9:20, so it's not like we were holding them up. We sat upstairs, and I think the waitress just wanted to leave. No refills on water, she was visibly annoyed with our various questions on the menu, just overall really wasn't welcoming. We were a party of 3, and when we ordered a 4th dish, her face was one of disbelief and just almost disgust. We ordered 4 dishes- rack of lamb, beef stroganoff, beef lasagna, and fillet of sea bass. Rack of lamb ordered rare- received at best medium rare - it was good, but rack was 3 ribs so super tiny portion for the price Beef stroganoff- super salty, worst dish by far. The beef was pretty hard, not tender. And the description was tender beef. What a joke Sea bass filet- well cooked but could not compensate for the rest of the meal Beef lasagna - maybe this is how they make lasagna here. One little layer of noodle. Too much cheese. Cooked fine. Came with fresh fries on the side. That's a filling meal. My expectations were high, I know. But this was just a disastrous meal. Really wish I went somewhere else. Usually I can forgive a place for average food of service is good. The service was exact opposite. I wish they had sat us downstairs. We would have had a better atmosphere and probably a better server downstairs. I started writing this review as soon as I finished the meal that's how strongly I feel about this dining experience. read more

We enjoyed our dinner here. We came with a group of 5 without a reservation. They were able to accomodate us pretty quickly, even though they were pretty busy. The service was quite good, they all seem to work as a team. and even the manager helped out. They have a good selection of beer and cider. We all found the food to be very good and the service sizes were good. read more

Unfortunately, we had a less than positive experience here. Based on other reviews, it doesn't appear common, so maybe we just hit them on a bad night. It took an incredibly long time to get someone to come over and give us any service. After we placed our drink order, it took about 15 minutes to get out drinks. Then the waiter that was taking our food orders did not offer us the options that were listed on the menu (for example the steak sandwich was offered on the menu with different sauces, however he didn't ask what sauce I wanted). He seemed very rushed. It took a long time to get our food order. I had to walk up to the bar to order a second round of drinks as we couldn't flag down a server to come and take our order. We finally received our food, which was pretty good. No complaints there. Then the younger crowd rolled into the bar area and several members of the waitstaff moved to pouring drinks for the crowd. So again, I had to go up to the bar and ask for the check and pay it. read more

As one of two places in town (O'Donnell's being the other) that will show American Football (if you ask nicely and if there are no rugby, Gaelic football, Or EPL games on), we stopped in to try our luck. It has plenty of tables for dine-in as well as a large bar area. We ordered the fish goujons, seafood chowder, Haujie wrap, Chicken Caesar salad, Chicken Curry. Chowder had large chunks of seafood, mostly salmon, was light and full of flavor. The curry was a bit thick and sweet, with large chunks of chicken; overall not bad. Wrap, goujons and salad were good. Their chips are excellent. They have steaks and we've heard excellent lamb dishes, so will have to try next time. Definitely suggest stopping in. read more

We walked into this lively establishment on a Tuesday evening and asked how long the kitchen was open. We were told another 45 minutes or so, so we sat down for dinner and were seated upstairs. The upper level and bar level are *completely* different atmospheres- downstairs very lively and later in the evening had live music while upstairs is very quaint and quiet; nothing wrong with either, just something to note. Our waitress was immediately frustrated and made that clear when she brought menus. We asked what beer they had on tap and had a couple questions about the menu and specials. Apparently those weren't the right questions. She tossed us a couple of paper beer menus and all of her responses were short. In addition to our drinks, we ordered the beef stroganoff (sauce was not as dark as expected, beef wasn't as tender as it could have been), meat lasagna (cheese overload! And where was the pasta?), rack of lamb (by far the biggest hit even though ordered rare and served medium rare), and baked sea bass (very salty but cooked well). The food was fine, nothing to write home about but that's about all. Service, however, was garbage, just in case I hadn't made that clear yet. Every time our waitress passed our table, her head was down. We had to flag someone else down for a single refill of water. Our waitress was nowhere to be found when we finished the meal and wanted the check - also had to ask someone else for that. We provided a card to pay and she was collecting plates and everything else from our table immediately; she hadn't done this for the table next to us, they sat and chatted for some time after paying. As we passed through the main floor on our way out we collectively looked at one another and thought how different our experience would have been if we had been seated at one of those tables. read more

My husband and I went here on a random Tuesday evening and we were not disappointed. The service was excellent and the food delicious and plentiful. We just visited Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland and Kirby's Brogue Inn was recommended by our Air B and B host. He spoke highly of the food, level of service and especially the live, traditional Irish music they offer. He couldn't have been more right about all three. First of all, the food was delicous and plentiful. We couldn't eat all of the offerings on the table. Most of us felt like steak or filet the first night. They were cooked to perfection. One person ordered the lamb chops and raved about them. The food was so good that we came back the next night for another dinner. The live music on Sunday was top notch, lively and interactive. Some of the locals (and one of our friends) were invited to sing with the band. We had a ball. The service was friendly, welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful when we asked a few questions about the local scene and airport/taxi help. Aiden was quite helpful and fun to joke around with. The restaurant is clean, the service delivered and overall it's a fantastic place. If you're in the Tralee area, do yourselves a favor and visit this establishment. read more
