Staff were exceptionally friendly. Unfortunately the owner (Eileen) was quiet rude and a staff member had to ask me to speak with the owner over the phone to resolve a complication on the night. Do not pass up this restaurant. Fantastic meal, service, hospitality and atmosphere. What a find. I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world and this establishment is right there at the top. Suggestion: linen napkins but then after two weeks in Ireland, never had them elsewhere. I found this place from other yelp reviews. You have to go downstairs to enter and once you enter its like you've entered a new world. The atmosphere is cozy and amazing, we sat at the Patrick Stewart table( the picture next to the table looked over 100 years old but the guy in it had a face that looked like Patrick Stewart with white hair). We got the early bird dinner which was probably the finest meal and value I have ever had in my life. The grilled goat cheese and salad starter was awesome and the local steak was delicious. I ended with the bread pudding and an Irish coffee which was amazing. We chatted with the owner Eileen who was very hospitable and gracious. I read that this was one of the finest restaurants in Ireland and I think that I would agree. I would give 6 stars if I could. read more

We stumbled upon Finnegan's on our way back from Dingle and from the moment we walked in loved the place. The ambience is warm, cozy, and completely charming. The owner Eileen greeted us as if we were invited into her home. There were four people in our party and everyone loved their meal and all of us are foodies who also love to cook. We looked up the restaurant on Trip Advisor and based on the six Excellent reviews and one terrible review we easily overlooked the terrible review, some people you will never please and the odds were with is on a great time which was delivered. This is a beautiful candlelit cellar restaurant. Very romantic meal with the candle and nearby fireplace. Service is excellent, and the food is delicious. We had pasta, seafood, salad and wine. Everything was perfect. If you're staying in Tralee, you should absolutely check out Finnegans, before heading out to the pubs for the night. read more

I read a review which rated this restaurant as one of the best in the country, and now that I've been, I find it hard to disagree. I had Grilled Goats Cheese salad, which was perfectly cooked. The cheese was just the right consistency and the salad was light and sweet. One of the best versions of this dish (which can get very boring) I've ever had. I had rack of lamb (rare) as my main. Served with creamed parsnip and potato, with some green beans too. Again, this was sublimely cooked. The lamb came with a gravy jus, which really complimented it's earthy flavour. Superb. I also tried my friend's Duck L'Orange which was delicious. Bread and butter pudding and coffee were both top quality. Best of all, this was all for 22.99e + a 5e supplement for the lamb (early bird, on a saturday). This dinner would cost me 80e in Dublin. So, it was also spectacular value. We needed a break from the pub food we had been eating and based on other Yelp reviews Finnegans was our choice. It is a basement restaurant below the tea house. We shared the calamari as a starter. It was cooked perfectly and the chili sauce and salad that accompanied it really complimented the dish. He got the Crispy Half Duck On The Bone,Orange & Cointreau Jus and says "it was served well done. The delicious glaze and herb garlic carrots were a different flavor but paired amazingly with the duck". I ordered the Seafood Linguini, Dinle Prawns & Mussells in a Chilli Garlic Cream Sauce. Perfect. So much seafood in the dish that was all cooked perfectly. Nothing chewy about it. My only critique on this dish was that the sauce was a bit thick but my bowl looked like it had been licked clean. If you find yourself in Tralee, a must visit for an amazing meal. read more

I can't rave enough about this restaurant. Food is truly outstanding, service impeccable, and it's all offered in a cozy, romantic atmosphere. We came with our 3 kids and thought we would not be welcomed but the hostess was so sweet and accommodating. Gave us a lot of options for the kids. The early bird special is above and beyond in every way. I live in NYC, and usually, a fixed price menu is limited, works with cheaper ingredients (I.e. Pasta and chicken) and small portions. Finnegan's offered the opposite. I had warmed goat cheese and beet salad (which could've been a meal in itself), the lamb shank (OMG, DELICIOUS!!!) and to die for chocolate cake... All for 23 euro. Oh, and they provide this just baked fresh warm bread; I couldn't keep my hands off of it. I ate the entire basket by myself! I rarely eat breads so eating this was so worth it! This place is fantastic!!! Based on the review of others, we decided to give it a try while we were visiting the area. Great choice! Everyone we encountered was delightful and the food was fabulous! Go hungry, because the have an early bird special that is really available all evening, which includes the works, including dessert. There are several choices for starters, entrees and dessert. The full meal well priced at €23. Just in case you are used to waiting for your bill to arrive which you then pay, they chose to let you stay as long as you like and then come up to the register and settle up. read more

i dont know where to start - we stayed in private bed and breakfast and paid that rate-- dirty - horrible - smelly - the staff/owner was very rude - lost keys no breakfast - "tough" quote manageress - child crying with hunger - we stayed 2 nights at €70 a night [agreeably cheap] but €140 at xmas time was hard to find - i rang before our trip to ensure child bed and was handed a dirty matress 6 hours after we arrived the only problem the room was so small it couldnt lay flat on the ground - but according to the manageress "you got bed for the child" - she was the only uk speaking person there so all queries went to her - the other staff members could be found on the stairs !!!!! with ironing boards and ironing the sheets - health and safety would have their hands full - i love tralee and go at min twice a year but never have i stayed in a hell like this - avoid - avoid avoid read more
