O'Donoghues is situated at the base of a hotel on the main street of Killarney's city center, and was a spot we visited for cocktails and dinner one evening. The space is good sized and features several dining areas and a decent sized bar. Decor and overall vibe is your classic Irish pub with lots of dark woods, soft lighting and grandiose fixtures and dividers. We initially bellied up the bar to grab a pint and cocktail while we waited for our table to be ready. After about 20 minutes, the staff came and whisked us away to a small table just off the main entrance. The table was not that comfortable, but they are doing everything they can with every inch of space they have, and we were just happy to be there! While bellied up to the bar, we enjoyed a pint of Guinness and the Apple & Honey cocktail. The Guinness was perfection, and the cocktail was tasty. The food menu has all the classics from toasties to stew and even fish and chips. We started our meal with the trio of croquettes. They were okay and plating was a bit odd as the salad and veggies that accompanied the croquettes were more visible and focus than the actual croquettes. While the trio was all different, the taste profiles were very similar for each one. For our mains, we both went with sandwiches. I got the Prime Sirloin Steak and my partner got the Ham, Cheese and Tayto. Steak was well cooked, bread was a great vessel, however more sauce would have been welcomed. The toastie was classic, no frills and hit the spot. Service was okay. Not very efficient or helpful, but also not awful or unfriendly. Was odd enough to notice, but not bad enough to ruin the visit. Overall, a fair rating is 3.5 for O'Donoghues. Given no half stars, they get the fourth. It is a good location and is just okay. We wouldn't go out of our way to visit again, but also wouldn't go out of our way to avoid. read more

When we walked in, they took our name and told us that there was a 15min wait. We went to the bar to grab a drink while we waited. We ordered a pint of Guinness and an O'D fashioned. We stood in what was a service area, the bartender asked us to move very politely. We tried to find a place to stand out of the way, the bartender came out from behind the bar to bring a stool for us. That was so sweet, just then the host found us the take us to our table. We very much appreciated the effort made by the bartender. Loved the drinks, btw. We sat down and looked over the menu. Decided on the burger and soup and sandwich combo. The burger was really good, made with Irish Hereford beef. It was so beautiful on the plate and tasted great. I got the soup abd sandwich of the day. It was a carrot soup (carrot and something else, I can't recall) and a toasty of ham and cheese with Tayto chips. Both the soup and sandwich hit the spot. It was a beautiful pub, lots of cute areas, I even saw an armored suit when I went to the bathroom. I found the menu prices very reasonable. 9.50 euro for soup, sandwich and chips (crisps). read more

The fish special was decent, but the fish had a slightly funny flavor. I wish I would've went with the regular fish and chips and it would've been less expensive than the special. Similarly, for the beef pie special, the shepherds pie was less expensive, might have been bigger, and less mushroom heavy. Five stars for the food. The Cod entree I ordered was just as good or better than some of the more expensive places we dined at in Dublin. I highly recommend getting their Cod entree if you like fish. The service was decent as well and they have good cocktails. We did not make reservations and just walked in so got one of the few available tables since this place is popular. The kids menu also has large ice cream sundaes that our toddlers enjoyed. They also split the fish and chips from the kids menu. This place has good food and decent Irish ambiance if you're looking for a dinner place in the cute town of Killarney. read more

Wow such a stellar restaurant pub in downtown Killarney. This spot is a must stop if you are in town! Delicious food, darling cocktails, comfortable vibes, and really reasonable prices. O Donoghues brought us in with a great menu and friendly staff from the get go. Also the trickling sounds of Hozier drifting onto the street might have also encouraged me to walk in "I take my whiskey neat, my coffee black in my bed at 3". Haha. But really, this spot is the perfect pub vibe without being too raunchy. Staff were all very nice. Who looked to be the lead staff or manager was very friendly and keeping tabs all around. He engaged us in playful banter and kept his eye on things. The female and male staff that helped throughout the meal were also nice. Talked to the bartender for a brief moment, all nice people. I was impressed that the menu was little more extensive than other spots with good variety. Prices were also extremely reasonable. It was nice to see a good mix of locals and tourists. Locals primarily at the bar and tourists throughout the mix. Definitely a welcoming spot. For cider was recommended their local cider Cronins and it was definitely lovely. A good starter drink. I really loved their cocktail menu and opted for a Tea-Ki cocktail as I liked it was very fruit forward. Imagine my surprise and delight when the cocktail was served in an actual tea pot hahaha. The teacup had ice and an orange slice. Brilliant! If I was a bartender I'd definitely take an idea like this and turn it into my own, it was just so cute and Instagram worthy. Cocktail was fruity and strong, I was happy. Food was also pretty good. I opted for the prawns and chips, pretty happy with them. The prawns were a good size and I liked that the batter wasn't too heavy. Tartar sauce was also tasty. The fries while good were slightly underdone for my taste. Overall though still a good meal. The ambiance was perfect and clean restrooms! Always important. I'd definitely come back here when in Killarney again, perfect spot for some food and drink, also heard live music after 9pm so worth a stop. read more

We stumbled upon this bar just walking around Killarney. We were looking for a Guinness Stew but saw they had Shepherd's Pie and decided to try it out. Prices were average compared to other pubs we've been to. The food was delicious & the drinks were strong. The shepherds pie was made with lamb but did not taste gamey at all. Cute spot with live modern music. Came here for a couple of drinks on a Wednesday evening at 9:30 and the music went on until about 11. The bartender was nice enough to try to cobble a Moscow mule together (which wasn't on the menu). They have specialty cocktails as well as the standard drinks. The restrooms are in the hotel (which the bar is connected to). There were plenty of places to sit and the overall environment was a bit more upscale than your typical pub. read more

We traveled around Ireland for 9 days and this place was by far the worst food the entire time. Male server told us the vegetables in the Shepards Pie were tomatoes and cucumber (when asked to confirm he assured me). Steak sandwich inedible, prawns and chips okay at best. Shepards Pie (which did NOT have cucumber in it - ha) was only okay. While the male Server was nice and accommodating (despite lacking knowledge - fault management for that), the female servers had truly poor attitudes. So many better options in Killarney and better service anywhere! read more

I went around 6pm and there were a lot of couples hanging out as well as a family. Mellow atmosphere but cool pub. I didn't see the live music because it didn't seem like a great venue for later in the evening. I got the chicken bacon salad ($7) which was awesome, not very big but very well done with lots of chicken and bacon, as well as a pint of Guiness (which is good at this pub) and an Irish coffee. The Irish coffee was out of this world! I didn't give this a 5 stars because it's much more a sit down relax and have a pint place than a place to go out and it's a little spendy but everything I had was great and I will definitely come here when I am a bit older (24 ur old reviewer). read more

We chose this place based on the menu outside the door. It was altogether an okay experience, I wouldn't come back here anytime soon. I had the salad special, which was a mozzarella and tomato with basil drizzle on greens, which was very delicious. I also got the Irish meatballs in tagliatelle pasta. The pasta was fresh and tasty, the meatballs I felt like lacked flavor or proper seasoning and the sauce was subpar I think, in both quantity and quality (kind of bland, thin/watery). My husband got their lamb burger, which he couldn't finish because of the taste. He likes lamb, a lot, but said something was off about the flavor of the meat and he couldn't stomach finishing barely more than half. The service was okay, but the place just seemed sort of run down and lacking in life by comparison to the other pubs and restaurants we went into in Killarney. read more

I visited here several times on my vacation in Killarney. It very quickly became my "home" bar. Cold beer, friendly faces, and the food was delish. The burger was juicy, and soup was flavorful. After a long drive from Northern Ireland coming into this town was a delight! We grabbed dinner here while we waited for our room to be ready. We only stopped for a drink as we were crawling through Killarney. Typical clean hotel bar, so don't expect a pub feel. Friendly service.
