Ace is the Place! There is this major ice storm coming and we need to prepare. One of the few things I kept from my late Daddy was a battery lantern which is .. a great big flashlight. This thing runs on four D size batteries but will light an entire room. So, I go looking for D batteries in preparation. Not only were D batteries a scarcity but flashlights had sold out too. I take a trip to Ace. At first, they had none too. But the staff, the very kind staff, found a box of D cell batteries and then FOUND me wandering around the store to give them to me. I waited for 15 minutes then asked to speak to the manager. He clearly did not want to be bothered to speak to a customer - looked at me shrugged - said it will take a while and turned away. This is a great Ace Hardware. It's big and the people really take time to help you out. We tried Lowe's and Home Depot for a pump filter, with no luck. These people didn't have it either, except for a metal version. But at least they told us what it was called so we could try to find a pvc version elsewhere. read more

Was working on a project and needed some glass cut. Was rudely met by their entrance associate who informed me they were closing in 10 minutes. Hi how are you?! Having a blessed day? Can you tell me where I can get some glass cut. Rudely tells me in the back. Guy at the back isn't friendly either. Unfortunately glass length is wrong. Bring it back the next day, no refunds on cut items. Purchase it again at a different length. Still wrong. Guy in the back was still rude and this time got an attitude as if I was accusing him of not cutting it as requested, like my guy, things happen, it's whatever, and of course lady at the front was rude again because it was around the time they were about to close, but guess what, you're still open! Great inventory; friendly helpful staff but poor management. I spent an hour unsuccessfully trying to buy asphalt. I drove out to this location since asphalt wasn't at my local ACE, and I want to support small business, & save them the time & shipping money. Had a $15 off $75 coupon in my app. After lugging a giant bag of soil to the front, and it didnt go through, manager says soil doesn't qualify for coupon (maybe teach your staff that so we don't hump big bags of soil all around? ). Then staff had me call ACE HQ since the coupon still didn't work. Spent a long time on phone getting a new coupon code. Still doesn't work. Finally, manager: we won't accept this coupon (even though YOUR staff told me to get it!). Both products were very heavy. I had to get get the asphalt out of my car and bring it back in. I just left and cried in the car. I mean, my brother works at ACE in PA. I so much want to love ACE. It felt awful. I will always love my ACE in Decatur but this one is not cool at all. read more

I purchased a dehumidifier last week. Came to return today unopened and I was refused saying they don't take returns on storm related products. No where online do I see that policy. It is certainly not easy to find if it does exist as I've spent the last 30 minutes looking and clicking. I will never return to ace hardware ever again! I and others have been taken advantage of. Spoke to manager and they would not take it. I am in this store most days of the week. So they will lose many times over the price of this dehumidifier. I had visited another Ace location somewhere in our fair city searching for some 1" inner-diameter, black rubber tubing to finish a project that had been sitting my garage for far too long. That first location quickly helped me realize they did not have such a piece of tubing in stock, but the gentleman said I should check the "big Handy Ace" in Tucker because they were bigger and probably had more of everything. Well, they didn't. But this did not surprise me. What surprised me was the discovery that as large as this Ace is, it felt somehow disorganized. And every single other Ace I've visited was abundant with helpful people who always approach me (I never seem to have to search for help) to get me what I need. Not at Handy Ace in Tucker. Plenty of people around, but none of them acknowledged me. Still, it's an Ace. And you may have better luck than I did finding what you need there. I did see other folks talking over the finer points of drill bits and hinges and paint and things on my way out. And I'll certainly visit if I have a more-than-obscure fitment need, again. read more

Ace, The Helpful Place. This slogan could not be truer. I had such a wonderful experience at this location. I was asked at least 4 separate times if I needed any assistance. The staff was extraordinary, from front desk to plumbing. I would 100% recommend coming here for all your hardware needs. I know I will be. They had everything I could need at great prices and more. It was very well organized and they had the best and cutest nicknacks. The staff here are extremely unreasonable. After three days after having no power, we were desperate to buy a generator. Finally, we found one at this location. We bought the generator and some power cords. As we were checking out and after we swiped our card, they told us that there were no returns, even if it was BROKEN. We later looked up the store policy and the generator can't be returned but the power cord can. We wanted a second to think about this since it was such a big purchase but they told us "Too late, you already swiped your card." It turns out the power cords didnt work but they wouldn't let us return them. This is the same ACE hardware that refuses to have employees wear masks despite public health recommendations and local regulations. AVOID this store at all cost! read more

At ACE, I was actually helped by an associate. WOWZER!! He did not point me down some alley, but instead, escorted me directly to the aisle and lower shelf and got me the item. I went to shop and noted that not one single employee was wearing a mask. I spoke to the manager to ask why, and he made fun of Covid - called it "the Crawdaddy" - and basically didn't care. Wow! New Store New Location! Super Sized! Just a stone's throw from Main St downtown Tucker in the Yum Yum Thai restaurant shopping center! Perfect location with plenty of parking! Love how spacious the new location is compared to its two previous spots! The Customer Service is still #1! Had no trouble locating the Gardening supplies I needed. Popped in to quickly pick up a dryer vent for my parents and counted at least five employees with their masks down around their necks. The store seemed to have a good selection and the employees were otherwise helpful but I found their lack of consideration for public health appalling and will therefore never shop here again. read more

I love this store and up until today have enjoyed my visits. The service I received today caused me to make a third trip back to the store to speak to a manager. On my first trip I purchased three items totaling $61.53 at 10:59 AM. I also used a $5 ACE coupon. When I got home and open the box containing a ceramic heater, I saw there were two scratches maybe an inch or inch and a half long. So I decided to take it back for an exchange. I got a different cashier, white female and explained the situation. She told me she needed to get a manager to approve since there were holes in the box. I told her I noticed the holes and suspected this was how it happened. When the manager arrived she repeated the box has holes in it and I realized she was accusing me of damaging an item that I had purchased less than an hour ago. The manager approved the exchange and explained to her that they often get products that are damaged in transport. I went to get another heater, making sure there were no holes in the box. Then she told me I needed to pay $2.79 because I used a coupon. In most retailers with would be an even exchange. She told me she could not overwrite it and I asked for a manager and she told me a manager could not override it. I gave her a 5 dollar bill and my receipt was timestamped at 11:56AM. Feeling mistreated and discriminated against I returned to the store to speak with a manager. I patiently waited for John the only manager on duty. I explained what happened, how I was treated and asked him to address the issue with the employee. When I asked to speak to manager she should have called for a manger versus telling me what he could or could not do. I told John it was not so much about the $2.79 it was about how I was treated. He assured me he would handle. That employee needs sensitivity and customer service training or be removed from the cashier position. I do not recommend the Ace Hardware in Tucker, Georgia. Make the extra 2-3 mile trip to Northlake or 5-6 mile to Toco Hills. The folks in Tucker are not the friendliest of people. I had gone there to get a gasket for a light fixture. When I asked the older gentleman in the electrical department for assistance he basically told me he didn't know of any gaskets and to just buy a new fixture. This is not good customer service. I do support the local businesses in Tucker but this Ace Hardware will not be one of them. read more

Sherry and the General Manager who I didn't get the name of need to be fired immediately. They are the most disrespectful people I have ever dealt with in a store. I have spent thousands of dollars at Ace Hardware, and this was the first time I have ever attempted to return a product, which was a defective $5 part. I ended up buying the same part from Home Depot in the middle of a job and no longer needed this defective part so I attempted to return it. The cashier shown in the pictures, Shelly, began yelling immediately at me and told me that I opened it so I couldn't return it and said that they don't need my kind shopping there. I think she was high on some kind of drug by the way she was yelling and acting so crazy for no reason at all. I never raised my voice and was completely calm and extremely polite. I was simply trying to get my $5 back for a defective part that I ended up having to buy at Home Depot, (for half the price), in the middle of a job. The other lady wearing gray in the picture is the General Manager who I was told to speak with. She also yelled and told me to "Get Out!" before I could even say a word as I was approaching her in order to explain the item is defective and that although I opened the package, I didn't use it. I then left immediately without saying a word and vowed to never spend another dollar at Ace Hardware. Handy Ace isn't the store I go to for most items - that's usually Home Depot or Lowes (Home Despot or Blowes as I like to call them - tongue-in-cheek, collectively the BORG as in "Big Orange Retail Giant" with a nod to Star Trek the Next Generation). The problem with shopping at the BORG stores is that sure, they have the very generic stuff you might be looking for and usually at good prices (it's still cheaper to order online with free shipping and no tax, but that's only good if you've planned out way ahead), it's for those obscure items that you shop at Handy Hardware, especially if you're in the middle of a project and suddenly realize you're missing a class 8 bolt and can't get the front suspension back together - you get the idea. Handy Ace is especially good for restoring old hardware - case in point, the homes in my neighborhood mostly still have the old aluminum casement windows that crank open - often those cranks are missing - I've actually managed to find one still in package at Handy Ace that was a direct replacement (I may have bought the last one so don't get too excited if you need the same). No place else I've tried had anything close. So that gets into the real reason this store rates 5 stars for me - finding that oddball part that no one else has. The original store (that was located right across the street - I'm not sure if the address on Yelp is the old or new - the old store was in the corner shopping center, the new is South-East of the old store in a stand-alone building that can be seen from the old store's entrance) had been in it's location for many, many years and I don't believe any item had ever been removed from being "current" stock. What that means is that you used to be able to root around in the back of pegs and find hardware that hadn't been available since the 80's. Case in point, if you ever need to replace a 5" Kwikset latch for a door - they actually still have these on pegs. Otherwise you're up for a long online search for the same item with a slim chance of finding a match - think about going to a store and actually finding one still on the shelf! I mean they still have old Buck branded chisels in the tool bins and the company that made those was bought and sold many years ago. Most of the negative comments I've seen for Handy Ace are really due to the chaos of their move - the old store was packed to the gills and the new store is actually smaller - thus there are still boxes and bins of hardware in the aisles so be prepared (true even one year later). The second reason this store gets 5 stars is due to the customer service and general knowledge of the staff. If you spend 5 minutes and can't find something, make sure you ask - if the person you asked doesn't know where something is, they will direct you to exactly the right person who either does know where the item is, or can give you some options (like special ordering a part for you). The service and wealth of information here is amazing. It's also very old-school so it may not appeal to everyone. If you're in a big hurry this may not be the place for you - if you like to know the people you're working with, who are consistently at the same store for year-after-year, then this IS your store. You build relationships at Handy Ace, try to do that at Lowes (heck try to find anyone at Lowes!). When I talk about ordering, know that Handy Ace still has access to suppliers (they have tons of catalogs) that the BORG have never heard of - it's very likely that they'll find that obscure part for you that only gets you a "Huh?" at Home Depot. The third reason Handy Ace gets a 5 from me is the fact that you can still go in and hunt down that one fastener you need, like a metric 10.2 bolt in exactly the right fine thread and size, with matching washers and a nut, in open bins. You're able to make sure it works with what you have (take in one and match the threads, etc) without opening packages, take the items up front and pay only for what you NEED. You don't have to buy a pound of them, or some blister pack that makes you net a bunch of fasteners you'll never need to use again (my shop is littered with little plastic packages of nuts, bolts and screws where I've only needed one or two and have never needed the same size again - you end of with all this stuff taking up space that's a nightmare - all gotten from the BORG and of no benefit to you). I'm talking super cheap prices (many are around 4-10 cents each) and they do it old school - brown paper bag. You just don't get that any where else (well you do at General and the other Handy Ace stores but that's another posting). So there are three reasons to go - just manage your expectations regarding the clutter and you'll do fine. Make sure you TALK to the people who work there and you'll understand why I go back. read more

This is the neighborhood "go to" store for all of those household odds and ends that you really have no idea where it came from or how to replace it. The store relocated almost a year ago to its new location now, a stone's throw away. When I came here after the move, I was totally put off- everything was a bigger mess than in the old location! (and some seriously bad feng shui!) Flash forward to yesterday when I stopped back in to have my old window screens re-screened. Much more order and a much better traffic flow! I think they finally got it right. Power tools, thing-a-ma-jigs, cast iron pans, Carhartt jackets, nuts, bolts and little red wagons- they have it all here and you didn't even know you needed it. I even bought a pizza peel here! Everyone at Handy Ace is so friendly and helpful. I had my screens fixed and was out the door with a few other gadgets that I didn't even know I needed. I used to work for the big box competitor and there are a few things that I still go there for, but for service and help anywhere near Tucker, Handy Ace is the place! read more

This store lacks customer service. I usually shop at the Intown Ace Hardware but they didn't have the item I needed in stock. This was the only Ace besides Peachtree street that had the ladder in stock but this one was closer to us. The ladder rung up $10 more than the price online, so I showed the cashier and the other cashier asked her the item number. She then picked up the phone to call someone and hung up. She walked away and said she'll be right back. Less than 2 mins later, I don't even think she went to ask anyone, she came back and said there was nothing she could do. She told me to order online and pick it up IN STORE FOR THE ITEM THAT WAS ALREADY IN MY CART, to get the item for $10 less. No it was not an online only price, special savings or even clearance. My words exactly, so instead of honoring the price that's shown online for your store and location, you want me to leave the store, place an online order to come back and pick up the same item? She said yes. I left the ladder and gloves right at the resgister. I will continue to shop at the Intown Ace off scott blvd and N Decatur rd. read more

We visited the new location over the weekend. I had been to the old location one other time and had a pretty bad experience. Basically I had an older employee just brush me off and tell that I was screwed (trying to replace a seal in a bathroom faucet). I had heard that this store was known for friendly staff and helpful service, so I thought that we would give it a shot. Plus I wanted to see the fancy new store. This place had so much crap in it, you literally couldn't get though some of the isles. It's like a law suit waiting to happen. The way the store is set up makes no sense and you should just save yourself the trouble of looking for something and just ask an employee where it is. Pitiful lawn and garden section. They had a whole bunch of employees working, but they seemed more occupied with each other, than with customers. Some weird folks in there, including a very scary looking woman. We did get some help and found what we were looking for with little problems. But, I don't see any reason to go back here again. I didn't really see where they stood out from any other Ace hardware, except they had mounds of merchandise scattered all over the place. I went in needing 2 simple items--screw and anchor bolt. Robert very reluctantly, and what could best be described as grudgingly, waited on me. He was curt, appeared angry, even, and would not answer questions until I asked twice. I asked if he needed to be elsewhere and he ignored me. I normally shop the mom/pop Ace in Conyers in lieu of HDepot or Lowes; mom & pop were there...first. I was passing through Tucker and stopped into the new Handy City...and it's just not handy at all, even worse in the new location for parking and narrow aisles littered with junque. I had purchased two of the 50ft coiled watering hoses that Ace handles for $19.89 each...the last two in Conyers. I stopped into Tucker specifically to get one more for the garden...when I did finally locate the hose (on my own...I didn't want to disturb the "vests" that were standing around chit chatting away; they were much too involved to ask if I needed help).....the hoses that they had were $25 each. Same hoses as Conyers Ace....but $5.11 more. If Ace ever wonders why they lose customers and business to the big box stores....it's greedy, dirty, uncomfortable, junky and lazy hardware stores under the Ace name. This place is the dinosaur of hardware stores and I won't be stopping in again. read more

I had been here when they were at their old location and the place looked like a bomb went off. Well...same thing here. They just moved into this location and it already looked like tornado had gone through there. You literally can not find ANYTHING. I could not even find the plumbing section there was so much crap EVERYWHERE. I doubt they will clean the store up since the old location was terrible too. I did get the part I needed to fix a leaky faucet and didn't get treated like a dumb broad, but the mess in there is enough to give me a panic attack. read more

I've been shopping there more and more over the last year, buying things for projects around my house. I try to shop and support local businesses. I shop here, also, because they are more likely to have hard to find items. That being said, they began earlier this year overcharging for items. I've been told that "the price has changed but we haven't had time to change the shelf stickers yet." First time it happened I called them out on it; I've worked retail before, and was always told that you have to honor the listed price. They adjusted the items that time (begrudgingly, I might add), but you have to note the price of each item then watch to see what it rings up for. Otherwise you're paying more. Today I had an item where the shelf tag was one thing but the sticker on the item was $3.00 less. I didn't notice until I got home (I bought over $100 worth of stuff) but it rang up at the higher price. Also, (not that this has anything to do with it other than I just feel like venting!) a few weeks ago I bought a new mailbox and two sets of numbers, then ended up repairing my mailbox and not needing it. I returned everything - mailbox and eight numbers, four for each side - but the clerk only refunded seven numbers. Again, I didn't notice until I got home. I wasn't going back for $1, and by the time I went again, well, it'd be my word against theirs, so I never said anything. So just watch what's happening at the checkout counters with their pricing, whether purchasing or returning. It's our money, we work hard for it, and they should honor their posted prices. After so many years in Tucker Plaza, they moved acrcoss the street ( about 3 years ago),....to a freestanding 20k sf building, only to burn down December 28, 2012.. But they are back now and in full swing ...right back in Tucker in the opposite end of Stables. Always more variety of hardware, nuts, specialty stainless hardware, everything under the sun ( minus lumber ) and so much more hardware variety than the overpriced Home Depot. Real knowledgeable professional people there who are friendly and helpful. Been going here ( and the other two locations ) for small projects and repairs for 6 years and can say that almost always have what you need. Go here first, take time to browse...there is much more than just hardware like camping , like knives, like BBQ and grill, patio, lawn/garden.....and on and on...worth driving past a few Home Depots and Lowes. Only thing priced a little high are power tools. The new address is 4405 Hugh Howell Rd, , Tucker. Everyone here is helpful and friendly, even the cashiers. . read more

I was so sad when the original Tucker Ace Hardware burned down:(. My husband and I would go by most weekends to pick things up. They were always so helpful and knowledgable. I was ecstatic when this new one was built on Lawrenceville Highway. Yay! Although being closed on Sundays is certainly an inconvenience for our many weekend projects, we take advantage of their inventory and advice whenever they are open. They are so friendly and have all sorts of random things. I get most of my stocking stuffers for Christmas from Ace too:) This location feels bigger and brighter also. I will continue to take my business to this location. Between Ace, Home Depot and Cofer Bros. in Tucker, we are always well equipped for any of our projects. read more
