I believe in yelping the good, the bad and the ugly. In this case, it was horribly bad. So because I would be in the Brookhaven area, I went here last week to top off my Propane tank. I had just did a trade-in a couple days earlier at Lowes and used the tank about 30 minutes on low while I sat out back to enjoy a cigar and a glass of bourbon. So since I would do the same on New Years, I wanted to simply top off the tank. The tank was still at least 3/4 full. I carried the tank to the front and the guy told me to leave the tank up front and they would take it back to be filled. While I waited 3 other people came in to fill their tanks. Now, I am used to how the East Point Hardware operates as they allow you to see them fill the tank and then they write down the amount of propane filled and you simply take it to the register and pay and then pull your car up to grab the tank as they do not allow tanks in the store due to it being a fire hazard. When (she) manager brough my tank and receipt it read full price for a full refill. I knew this was impossible as the tank was barely used. I asked her to show me the amount placed in the tank and she simply said it was a full refill. When I told her this was impossible, she stated all of the tanks she received were full refills. I asked again, how could a tank that was 3/4 full need a full refill (price)? She could not even look me in the face when she said this as I knew she was not telling the truth even after questioning this a few times with her. Unfortunately, I bet this has happened to a lot of customers that did not pay attention to their receipt as it looks like this location will charge you for a full refill no matter how much propane is in the tank at the time of receiving for refill. This is truly an unscrupulous way to do business. Not everyone waits until their tanks are completely empty before getting refills. I am not sure if this is the manager's business practice or if she was trained to do it this way. Either way, it's not good!! Overcharging for propane refills I guess is an easy way to additionally get additional profit from customers. I am all for making sure a business makes their profit margins on their products, services etc, but do it ETHICALLY! By the way, the 2 young high school looking guys at the front of the store were very friendly. read more

Not greeted , never asked if they could help. Came in to spend 1000 bucks on a new grill. Spent 15-20 minutes looking at their selection and was never approached by an employee or spoken to by one. While the display is nice, most had no pricing and or model numbers displayed.Oh well, maybe another Ace or Lowe's or Home Depot could use an extra grand$$ in sales today. read more

I think it was Claire who spent some time making sure the sidewinder-keys I needed were cut properly. She did indeed get them right, and it was indeed an ordeal. I had no idea these "nonstandard" keys were so difficult. But Claire knocked it out of the park. Staff here is friendly and helpful. And true to ACE fashion, they have anything you need and plenty of knowledgeable staff to help you get things done correctly. I was happy the store carried what I had been looking for. The service was efficient throughout the time I was in the store. However, the fact that one of the employees acted quite brusque and impatient towards me marred the otherwise satisfying experience -- enough to make me want to stay away from shopping there in the future. read more

This Ace Hardware is fantastic. It is a family run business and I would much rather go here than the big box stores such as Lowe's where you get lost and there's no help around. Each time I have gone to this Ace I have been approached and asked what I needed help with. They are in the newly designed Chamblee Plaza on Peachtree Industrial. So glad they opened near me! I've been shopping at Ace for years and have started to go here instead of Lowe's. I'm no longer going here or recommend to anybody else. I bought a grill matt, opened up once at home when my wife noticed it looked used. I was ok with the look because it was a grill matt but it didn't fit my deck space. I went to return and immediately the manager was called. The manager found my receipt with my account where she can see I'm a frequent customer HOWEVER she said it was used and she couldn't refund me. I showed her other matts that looked the same! I felt judged and embarrassed in front of my daughter. Online does not have a support number so here I am. I let them keep the matt too even without the refund... read more

First time here. I was walking down the aisles & almost bumped into an employee. I apologized and he looked like at me as if something was wrong with me . I was here to copy my keys and the man I almost bumped into was the one who ended up "helping" me. I told him I needed one copy of each. Then another customer comes in line and is there to do the same. I guess the employee,Bob, was having a bad day because he said complained how everyone comes at the same time under his breath. Bob couldn't find my key and then implied it was a stolen vehicle and insisted I didn't know what vehicle I had . He said I would know what vehicle I have under the registration and the vehicle I told him does not exist . Look it up, a Honda beat pp1 does exist . Very polite staff and have to applaud them for the professionalism they have, but I am an unhappy customer. Found out that if you buy anything from an Ace Hardware and have an issue with the product you have to drive it back to the exact store you bought it from. As a contractor that is very upsetting that you have a big box store/chain store and they won't take care of you at any store. I bought kitchen caulk/silicone from them. Initially I bought a tube of Dab, but the stuff was not very pasty and consistent. I figured this was due to it being from a tube, so I returned it and bought GE silicone for caulk gun. I could barely get the material out of the tube and it was lumpy in between. We tried to use it but it was no good, too. I checked the expiration date and it was over 2 years expired (my bad...,should have figured this in the store but we rarely use caulk). I returned it again and when I pointed out the cashier that she needed to check the shelves for other expired stuff she told me that I shouldn't be rude and it was not her fault. She was very impolite and unprofessional. Another store attendant tried to tell me that this came from a warehouse and it was not the store's responsibility. This is not how you handle a situation like this with a customer whose home project was not only ruined once but twice due to selling faulty materials. read more

This is one of the most neatly organized and well-stocked hardware stores I've seen. This is especially important to me, as a car enthusiast and a DIY builder, as I frequently need specific bolts, screws, paints, tools, etc., without wasting valuable time searching through disheveled drawers and shelves. Note: This store has one of the best bolt/nut/screw selections in the area. Secondly, the staff is knowledgeable and has always been able to quickly help me find exactly what I need versus searching for help, as I've experienced in big box stores. Before going in store, I called to ask if they do services for automotive keying and the lady who spoke to me was beyond helpful and even asked questions to prompt me in the right direction. In store, an associate with great customer service asked to assist me. I was lead and introduced to Abel, the locksmith specialist in store, who was very helpful and quick (Less than 5 min service) at servicing my new car key. In my opinion, you can go to Lowe's which is right down the street. I went to this store and bought paint they was not sealed oroprrly, when I came back to let the store know, they told me that it was not their problem and that they essentially never mess up. As a note, I made an additional purchase of more paint at the time of my exchange request and noted that paint got everywhere. The manager proceeded to tell me that one the paint leaves the store it isn't their problem.... The selling point of being locally owned is their drawback, they can say and do whatever if they don't think they have to cater to your needs. I needed a car key copied for my 2005 Mercury Marquis, I went to the Ace in Chamblee and was totally delighted! The employees are just outstanding; the young man, appeared to be in his 30's, slender with brown hair, had to program the key as well as cut it, needless to say I was surprised how quick it went, he had the right equipment, expertise and an incredible attitude. I can see how Ace is surviving Home Depot and Lowes, service, nice quality and some niche products you would expect in a gift shop. I bought my Daughter's Birthday gift there. I had brought my faithful dog with me and he was treated like royalty! Ace is indeed the place, and will be my first choice before going to Home Depot or Lowes, Thanks!
