I've been shopping there more and more over the last year, buying things for projects around my house. I try to shop and support local businesses. I shop here, also, because they are more likely to have hard to find items. That being said, they began earlier this year overcharging for items. I've been told that "the price has changed but we haven't had time to change the shelf stickers yet." First time it happened I called them out on it; I've worked retail before, and was always told that you have to honor the listed price. They adjusted the items that time (begrudgingly, I might add), but you have to note the price of each item then watch to see what it rings up for. Otherwise you're paying more. Today I had an item where the shelf tag was one thing but the sticker on the item was $3.00 less. I didn't notice until I got home (I bought over $100 worth of stuff) but it rang up at the higher price. Also, (not that this has anything to do with it other than I just feel like venting!) a few weeks ago I bought a new mailbox and two sets of numbers, then ended up repairing my mailbox and not needing it. I returned everything - mailbox and eight numbers, four for each side - but the clerk only refunded seven numbers. Again, I didn't notice until I got home. I wasn't going back for $1, and by the time I went again, well, it'd be my word against theirs, so I never said anything. So just watch what's happening at the checkout counters with their pricing, whether purchasing or returning. It's our money, we work hard for it, and they should honor their posted prices. Just sayin'!!! This was all at the location in Tucker, Ga. read more

Usually customer service is here is great. However, the one time I go in to purchase a Big Green Egg, no one approaches me or asks me if I have any questions . I walked out the door after about 15 minutes of waiting. Will definitely take my business elsewhere. read more

Rude is about all I can say. On September 11 I bought items. The power regularly goes out in my neighbor(storm or not) and thought to stop in. One of the items was not what I thought it was so I went to return it. The cashier tried to be empathetic but told me there was no refund on STORM items. Talking to her 3 other people chimed in. Rude as I don't know what. She said that's the manager(One of the people talking all over me and being rude). How do they decide what a "storm item" is and how is a customer supposed to determine that. Some items used for storms are sold and bought in all weather. I was told a sign was on the door that said No Storm items could be refunded. With the door open (which is how it was when I went in due to a young man that works standing in the door to let me know to hurry in because they were closing). the sign cannot be seen. I was told the sign was placed there two years ago buy a rude woman(one of the three rude people). I was also told it was it was on the receipt. Duh....this needs to be printed clearly at the cash register and verbally said as you DO NOT GET A RECEIPT UNTIL YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE A PURCHASE. I definitely understand policies but being rude, loud and almost hostile is so unnecessary. You can convey policy apologetically and with kindness. Outside of the cashier and the guy that waved us in on Sept 11, this was not done. I was so caught up in my own disappointment and frustration that I did not think to ask if the items could be exchanged. Plus it was closing time. I will be reaching out to the owner to see if that is possible. I know we are human and have our days but to have 3 people in leadership being rude, nasty and loud was disappointing. In the meantime, great learning lesson - stick with Home Depot or some other store that marries great inventory, with great prices and great service. read more

Being a skilled woodworker from a family of engineers I've spent much of my life exploring hardware stores. This is one of my all-time favorites. I've visited Handy Ace many times to find hard-to-locate items since they are among three or four places in metro Atlanta where you can find just about anything in hardware. They have everything from tiny, chrome plated, slotted, oval head screws to nuts & bolts large enough for bridge construction. I believe that those who gave this store a less than stella rating simply don't know much about what to expect from a hardware store. The people are pleasant, helpful, but far more important, they're knowledgeable. I love the place! read more

Handy Ace Hardware in Tucker has reopened, not far from their old locations. This place is amazing! They sell every small part you could want. They have rows of screws, nuts, washers, nails, etc. - all sold individually. They also have a great selection of tools, adhesives, electrical items, plumbing items, paints, and millions of odds and ends. The service is very good - infinitely better than Home Depot or Lowes. read more

This store is a life saver and has HANDS DOWN, the best customer service of any hardware store I've ever been to. Pete went above and beyond to stay a bit late and rekey some locks for us. Thank you Pete and know that anytime I'm anywhere near Tucker and have hardware needs Handy Ace Hardware will be my only stop! read more

My kids and I just moved to Tucker about 6 months ago and I started going to this Ace. I love going in. The customer service is absolutely amazing. I've had several employees walk a single mom through step by step instructions on how to repair something with patience and kindness. I hope I never have to step foot in another Home Depot. Going there to get sleds now because I just called and they have plenty of them! Shop here!!!! read more

OUTSTANDING!! This place is in direct contrast to Home Depot. At HD you can never find anyone to help you when you need them. At Handy they are go far beyond the call of duty and are immensely willing to help. I will never visit HD again... read more

I really like this store. Always get great assistance. I went last week to get paint that had to be color-matched. I had tried to have it done at Home Depot and the color was way off. Chaos has a name, and it's name is Ace Hardware. The first obstacle your soul must endure is the parking lot. Your vehicle makes contact with numerous gaping holes of oblivion in the pavement creating a future vision of the state your of soul upon leaving this store. Once you brave the parking lot and enters this hellscape, you discover more chaos; other shoppers stop and start with no apparent plan to navigate this death maze, the shoppers genuinely have no idea how to operate buggies. I fear the apocalypse as I wall through this place. The aisles are thin and not marked as one-way. It's reminiscent of the passage in Matthews Gospel, "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." The thin aisles challenge the shopper to only take what is necessary because otherwise you literally cannot navigate this death maze disguised as an Ace Hardware. The aisles are not labeled. You must search for every item as if you're looking for the holy grail. Once you finally find what you're looking for (in my case I was searching for bug traps). You must brave the line to the cashier, which will test you to the very limits. As I stood waiting to purchase my items, I noticed trinket after trinket displaying an array of terribly written southern euphemisms and bumper stickers asking me if I "got Jesus?" Indeed this question has haunted me since I arrived in the store. The rich cannot enter God's presence, and this Ace Hardware makes me question if there is a divine Other at all. The passage from Matthew's Gospel is swirling in my head. "Do I need these bug traps?" I wonder as I finally reach the cashier. I purchase my items and at the last minute throw a bag of skittles in with my necessary items. I have failed the test. Defeated, I leave the Ace Hardware convinced of my own damnation. Then I realize. I've already walked through the place called Hell and it's an Ace Hardware. read more

This is a big hardware store. When you have a real problem that you can't solve at Lowes or Home Depot go see these guys. This weekend I needed washers for my 1953 American Standard sink. Great way to get the job done. read more

Huge store with great selection. Nice people and excellent customer service. Plenty of parking. Easy to find. Big fan! Good Carhartt selection. UPDATE So, I've been there 3 times since my original review, and I'm a little disappointed. They've failed to replenish the stock of Carhartt or call us when they opened the new stock (as requested) The employees are spectacular, but I'm driving clear across town to visit this location. Not bad...just not as great as I thought. read more

A wonderland of hardware! I just wish it were closer. It's not close enough to be the first stop for basics, but the moment I think I'm going to have trouble sourcing something, I'm on my way. I monopolized one of the employees today for probably 20 minutes to help me find a disparate selection of screws that had nothing in common with each other and we were up and down the various screw aisles until I had everything I needed for my project. I felt almost guilty that after all that I only had about $4 worth. but I find myself making the trek more and more and just getting it over with instead of futzing around with disappointment at the Big Box stores. read more

I have been using this store since I bought an apartment building 12 years ago. The building was built in 1988 so whenever anything needed to be fixed, especially plumbing parts, HD & Lowe's never had them. I was always able to find what I needed. And the staff was always helpful because I never knew what I was looking for. More recently, I had been searching all over town looking for parts to a hand truck purchased online. Again, HD and Lowe's didn't have it. HD caters more to contractors so they only have the most popular parts that contractors use. Lowe's caters to DIYers remodeling their house so they don't have most of the useful stuff, especially when it comes to screws, bolts, etc. I like the new location, even though it does have a LOT of stuff in it. I don't even begin to look around because it's not really a customer-friendly design, but I've always been able to find someone to help me, even if I have to wait for a few minutes because they're so busy. read more

Two employees were too busy eating and talking to each other to help me determine prices on custom-order address plates for mailbox. "We'd have to call," they mumbled, and wandered off. I have never seen retail employees anywhere eat while on the job...totally unprofessional. Women at front cash registers were also eating. Store has a popcorn machine. Excellent employees of past years are gone for the most part. read more

I apologize in advance for this length of this post but I wanted to ensure I gave all the details so you can get the full picture of the incident. I feel I need to warn everyone to be careful of your cash at Handy Hardware. This past Saturday I was having some work done at my house and realized I needed a strike plate I had failed to pickup. It was also lunch hour so I ran up to Handy Hardware to get the strike plate and then headed up to Chick-fil-A. I got to the register and the girl rang up the sale at right around $6.00. I had a $20 folded in my coin section of my wallet so I handed it to her and waited for my change. While she was slowly counting my change, a guy came around with some food. First he put the plate on her right, then he moved it to the left, then he stood around distracting her, then he took the food and left. She finally hands me my change, I fold it into the my coin section and head out for lunch. When I got to Chick-fil-A I reach in the coin section to get the $10 I was supposed to have received in change only to find I only had $3.00 folded together. After I got back home I called Handy and asked to speak to the manager. He acted like I was a nuisance but he finally took my name and number and said he would check into the matter. A little while later a girl called me back and said she had checked all the registers and there was no extra money in any of them. I told her I didn't make stuff up or lie and that if the $10 wasn't in the register then it was in the pocket of her cashier. I also pointed out that I was a long time customer and that I had never had this problem before. She was totally unimpressed but did agree to look at security footage and call me back. Well, it is now Monday evening around 6:00 and I have not received a phone call. It is not a surprise because she pretty much let me know she did not believe me on Saturday. I was already aggravated with the store because I couldn't find what I needed and there was no one to help me. The lady wearing an Ace shirt that was in the same aisle as me was too busy doing something with her clipboard and the other employee was helping a customer. He did, however, finally interrupt himself long enough to direct me to the correct aisle. When I needed screws to go with the strike plate, I again could not find anyone to help me. There were 3 employees gathered around a computer console but they did not offer any help. The customer standing with the employee who had given me directions took me over to the group of 3 and told them I needed help so one of them finally got me the screws I needed. Then, as if the experience were not negative enough, the cashier didn't even thank me for shopping there. When I pointed this out to the manager, he completely ignored me and the girl didn't say anything either. There have been times in my life when that $10 would have meant eating or not so I am very grateful that this is not one of them. With God's blessing of a job, I am able to be quite piqued about the whole situation but not go to bed hungry because of it. Folks, if you shop at Handy, don't pay with cash unless you can give exact change and don't expect anyone to thank you for your business. If you need help, good luck. We no longer have a friendly Ace hardware in Tucker. As for me, I will drive the extra distance to Home Depot or Walmart, both of whom are dirty words to me, rather than shop at Handy Hardware. read more

Well, well, well. It seems the children didn't get enough milk this week. Not much but whining here. Please let me explain and I'll type slowly so the less informed will be able to keep up. It is a hardware store. I don't think the babies said anything about Tommy or Dawn or Harold because they had their heads up their butts. If you don't have personal relations with the staff then you wont understand the culture. But then, that doesn't matter to you, only your narrow viewpoint. I get tired of people like you who write reviews like this. You can't work on your own home but you expect a company to perfect for you. Grow up. I do about $250,000 worth of handyman work a year. When I need something special I can call my friends there and they will have it waiting on the counter for me. I guess you only buy about $50 per year but you want the store to kiss your butt because you are so special. If you want special, get a life. Find something you are good at, like the family at Handy Ace Hardware and do it. Otherwise why not keep your thoughts to yourself. And about the guy who dissed the woman he thought looked odd, try looking at your family tree sometime. I guess this about says it all for me. I hope your feelings are stung but then I doubt you have many. All the best, Better than I deserve. read more

This place has a lot of very hard to find stuff. Too bad they are extremely rude. One guy was practically yelling at my mom for asking about a faucet. I ordered a filter and instead of calling me to tell me they couldn't get it, they kept telling me that it was on backorder. Finally found it at a different place for almost half the money. They also wont answer their phone after they put you on hold. I want to support local business, and I hate to leave a bad review. I just hope they get it together in the customer service area. read more

RUDE RUDE RUDE. On 1/6/14, I purchased 5 styrofoam faucet covers, since the temp was predicted to go down to zero that night. I used three of them on my house, and in a few days went back to return the other 2 (which my daughter didn't need for her house). I had my receipt and the covers still had the labels on them. The "manager" informed me very curtly, "Sorry, that's a storm-reated item, we can't take it back." WHAT??? I replied that I didn't buy them for a storm, I bought them for a hard freeze. He repeated his statement again -- that was a storm, so we can't take it back. SINCE WHEN IS A HARD FREEZE CONSIDERED A STORM? Are you telling me that there won't be anymore freezing weather this winter?? No m'am. After trying unsuccessfully to make this BULLY see reason, I gave up, left the covers on the counter, and walked out. It wasn't the money -- they were only $3.50 apiece. But to have the gall to tell me (IN A VERY RUDE AND DISMISSIVE MANNER) that he can't take back an unused item which they can easily resell is just plain BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. I honestly don't see how this awful store stays in business. ***** IF YOU EVER WANT TO RETURN ANYTHING, YOU BETTER MAKE SURE IT WASN'T PURCHASED FOR A "STORM". THEIR DEFINITION OF STORM SEEMS TO BE VERY BROAD. ***** Trust me, I'll NEVER go back to this junky store -- give me the helpful guys at Home Depot anytime. read more

This place is the best. I was having trouble with my craftsman belt sander and I took it to the Sears Craftsman Repair shop. The man there barely looked at it and told me it would be best just to buy a new one. Then I took it to Ace, where the gentleman figured out the problem and showed me how to use it. Then he asked what project I was working on and I told him I was refinishing my first big piece of furniture. I then got some great tips and advice that I didn't get on YouTube! Great experience! Far surpasses anything I've experienced at Home Depot or Lowes for sure. I didn't feel intimidated at all at Ace and was very pleased! read more

I wouldn't go here for everything but on occasions where i need something out of the ordinary they usually have it. First rule of advice here: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO NAVIGATE THE AISLES YOURSELF! The person who said it looked like a tornado went through was dead on and in fact may have been putting it nicely. It is easily one of the most cluttered and messy stores you'll ever encounter and since they seem to stock about 14 billion different things (half of which are in the floor) you probably won't find what you need without asking. I always go straight for some help and avoid wading through their hoard any more than possible. I give this place 3 stars because I've been able to find some really oddball parts here and it has saved me some money on repairs. My experiences with the employees have been mixed..some are friendly some are jerks. Their saving grace is their stock...if you can actually find what you need out of it. Other than that if it is something simple save yourself some money (their prices are high) and go to one of the big boxes where at least you can be frustrated without tripping on things. read more

Poor customer service. Walked in needing to get a wooden shelf cut down. Gary in the back was speaking to a lady ahead of me... minutes passed on discussions from ladies clothing store to tomatoes and not once did he acknowledge me or say one moment please or I'll be with you in a moment. I don't mind paying a little extra to get a job done or help support smaller stores but poor customer service...no thank you, I walked out. read more

I've been reading through the reviews, and I find myself puzzled by the negative reviews. Handy Ace wasn't one of those yuppie Ace Hardware stores, with bright lights and wide aisles where you have as many cutesy (aka expensive) household things as you do tools. I love Intown Ace for their garden area and their dog-friendly policy, but half the store is gift and cutesy things! When I first stepped into Handy Ace, at the old location, I breathed a sigh of relief --- THIS was the kind of store I was used to from rural Texas and Washington State, the kind of falling down place where you could find ANYTHING, and if you couldn't, they could make it for you. Handy Ace had tools and parts going back to the sixties, and staff that knew what they were doing (AND they were dog-friendly!). Yes, it was cluttered, but who the hell cared? The staff was wonderful -- if you bothered to speak to them, and you were marginally polite--and they went out of their way to help find what I needed, or help me fabricate what I needed that didn't exist. I've had employees make cuts and thread steel for me for free just because they were so interested in something off-the-wall. And every time I went in someone said hello, asked after my foster dogs (I always bring my Great Pyrenees fosters in for socialization), asked me what weird stuff I needed today ..... the only people I have ever seen these folks be rude to are people with attitude, who expect gloss and shiny over plain common sense and real substance. Yes, sometimes you have to wait for help, but in my experience that is because the staff gave everyone the same focused level of persistent help they gave me. (I came in once to get material for my glass torch ventilation, and Ken spent 45 minutes on the phone tracking down a fabrication place to subcontract the job ... and then arguing with them when they tried to go back on their price after I had already paid. Finally he came over to me, fire in his eyes, and helped me jury-rig a system because "I gave you a price and they just made a big liar out of me." Got a full refund, too, AND a good working system.) I am so glad they will rebuild! Unfortunately, I think all of the back stock that made this Ace so special perished in the fire; I am afraid that when it reopens it will just have what every other Ace has -- the people who want clear aisles and the same stuff as everywhere else will be happy, I suppose. In ten years, though, it will begin to be the wonderful treasure trove that so many of us rely on. To those who think the place is cluttered and dingy and the staff rude ... the dingy, cluttered, old places are the best! Go back to your shiny stores that have exactly the same goods as every other store, and leave the real hardware stores to those of us who appreciate them. read more

I love this place!! I came here to get my Axehandle fixed and their customer service was above and beyond. I have now left my axe there to get the work that it needs. Not only was John extremely helpful but I brought my dog with me and I was able to bring her in store.I didn't have a leash or collar but I was able to purchase one there. Upon retrieving my dog from the car I locked my keys in my car and a very helpful employee was able to help me to retrieve them, this saved me a lot of money! This is the place I go when I have a hard time finding that one item I need to fix something around the house. Not sure what others are talking about regarding service. I have gone here for years and have always had great service. Also, it is a testament to how the management treats the employees that the store has survived with almost all of the staff through the first move, then the burning, and then having to operate so long out of a cubbyhole. Now that has paid off and they are in a huge store that they are still improving daily. Don't be afraid to step up and ask for anything you need. They will know right where it is on the shelf. Like others, I use the big box stores for generic things (for price and convenience due to my location), but, I try to use Handy Ace whenever I can because I *don't* want them to go away. And whenever big orange or big blue *doesn't* have what I want? Guess where they recommend? I have had associates from multiple big box stores direct me to Handy Ace in Tucker many times. read more
