I always find exactly what I'm looking for, which is saying a lot for a hardware store when you're mid-project and already annoyed. The layout makes sense, it's well stocked, and I'm rarely wandering around aimlessly. What really seals the deal here is the staff. The employees are consistently friendly and genuinely helpful. Special shout-out to Otis, who helped me resolve a dryer issue in a matter of minutes. No upselling, no confusion -- just quick problem-solving that saved me time and frustration. Been going there for over 20 years until I encountered the so called "I been here 18 years " woman manager. The worst management choice by the owners and you know how the fish stinks from the head down. She, the "I been here 18 years" fake manager was the rudest, most incompetent manager I've experienced in a minute. She failed at communication, she failed at politeness, she failed at even listening to the customer. After speaking with the owner, he didn't give a damn either. Awful! They sent me a $5 coupon for my birthday for a $5+ purchase. so I go there with a cleaner which was reduced, a bag of potting soil and garbage bags (which clearly stated could not be used for coupon). Well she tells me, sorry you can't use coupon! cleaner is on sale and apparently the potting soil bag was large! BS! and to make things worse she rounded up my account by $0.74 without asking me. So I will go in to buy a small bag of soil just to spite them and use my $5 coupon and NEVER go back. It's not the $5. I stopped in to get a tool to repair my dryer, and wanted to buy everything in the store.   Location and Parking  It's located just south of the Scott Blvd/North Decatur Rd intersection. The parking lot is small, but it feeds into the urgent care parking lot next door, which is decidedly less crowded.   Venue and Atmosphere  The store is packed full of everything you need to complete a home improvement project, and the garden center is sizeable and beautiful in the spring/summer. They also carry a large selection of tumblers from Tervis and Yeti, as well as candles, cookware, and other gifts.   Service  I was greeted immediately and a staff member led me right to where I needed to go. The process was seamless and I got in and out in less than 10 minutes.   Verdict  I'll be back to get a plant sometime soon! read more

Intown Ace is my go-to Ace even though it is further from me because it is so big and has a massive outdoor and indoor plant and planter selection. The people who work here a the friendliest and most helpful. I am an Ace member so I come here when I get my discounts as I always have something I can get here to improve my home, or get something for our puppy. Of course, that means I leave here with more than I plan on purchasing, but it's ok as everything increases my house value, aesthetics or my puppies life. They have all your needs for your outdoor space, I have purchased many things for my patio here including my outdoor rug and planters. When I need/want a plant, planter, or a saucer for my planters this is where I come first. My puppy, Kiska, loves perusing through the pet section and picking out her own treats. When it is time to fix anything or hand anything or any other of the never ending list of to-dos at our house, this is where I head first as I know if I need guidance for a project they will be here to help. I have also bought a puzzle, jewelry, and a cute summer dress here. Never thought I would say that about an Ace, but this place has some cute things. This Ace is amazing! They have so many unique items you just can't find anywhere else. Outdoor cooking, housewares, decorative items and of course hardware and gardening. It's so fun to come see what goodies I can find. Everyone who works there is so helpful. My only complaint is the odor. Especially near the outdoor cooking area. I used to go to Ace when I was a kid. My dad would get his mower sharpened and buy drill bits that he didn't need. Such is the place of these small hardware stores, especially when you don't want to visit Big Orange. Shop local, the hipsters continually remind us. IAH occupies a corner of Decatur on Scott, close to the Whole Foods/Wally World shopping universe. The vibe in Ace stores is always a little old-timey, with the key grinding and the paint mixing and the outdoor garden center. They really do make a point to stock locally meaningful goods. It's an urban location, so they're selling a lot of hand tools and things for small yards. The garden center is massive, with nice flowers even in the fall. Holiday stuff is always available in season. The store is in an extraordinarily prosperous area of Northeast Atlanta, so there are the Big Egg-Shaped Grills on sale, alongside those Sasquatch coolers that cost 200 bucks to hold a single case of beer. I get a little wistful, honestly. The working class economy of my far away hometown could probably not support a shop like this anymore. Makes one wonder if the joy of perusing a local place like this is lately kind of a luxury. I sure hope not. read more

Wow! I'm not sure, but this could be America's largest ACE Hardware! Not only do you need to go, but you need to clear your entire afternoon to explore all the ins and outs of this fabulous store! First, we'll start with parking. There's a great amount of parking despite the amount of folks there at any given time (which is a lot, this place stays busy!) Then, make your way through the front doors, where you will find anything you need, and everything you didn't know you needed. Sure, you can get a saw, or paint, basically anything you can ever ask for at a hardware store, but there's SO. MUCH. MORE. Whoever does their buying is fabulous. The home goods items, different spices, seasonings, kitchen gadgets, it's all there. I've gotten great handmade soaps and candles that I keep coming back for. Who knew ACE hardware would be the place to find a great gift at? Now for the garden section, my goodness the garden section. It's massive and beautiful! The layout is so cool, and there are even different barns that you can walk through with pots, furniture and more! Literally anything you need they have. And anything they don't have, they'll order for you. And the staff is incredible. Not to mention the gorgeous man who works in the garden section named Corey. Man is he handsome...oh and super helpful too. But he sure is easy on the eyes. Oh and sometimes if you happen to go on a weekend afternoon, they'll have a green egg fired up cooking meat and giving out samples. What a beautiful touch! I rarely need to buy home stuff, but I'm always up for a trip to this Ace Hardware. Where else can you pick up some plumbing supplies and a pair of funky socks? Yep, in addition to the standard hardware store stuff and plants, you can walk out with items such as college football paraphernalia and gourmet goodies. This store is always busy on weekends for a reason. There's no scarcity of employees working, and they are happy to help you locate something and are cheerful to boot. There are some parking spaces in front of the Ace Hardware, and there's a larger lot on the north side of the building, facing the urgent care place. Making a left onto Scott Blvd. can be a drag, but it's doable. There are restrooms in the back of the store if you need them. The selection is of course less massive than that of Home Depot or Lowe's, but at the same time, Ace feels less overwhelming and more welcoming. read more

WOW, Ace really is the place! It had been a long time since I shopped there. I went in search of bug repellent. Was I totally surprised of the variety of merchandise now available. Not just the hardware store I remembered but a variety hardware store, plants, paint, lawn care, insect repellents, candles, and much much more. I spent over an hour browsing. Overall, I'm a really big fan of this Ace Hardware. It's got that pleasant neighborhood mom and pop shop feel to it, and as others have mentioned, the garden center is just lovely. The only reason why I've dropped a star is that, on two separate visits, the attitude of two of the employees rubbed me the wrong way: one employee spotted me and asked if I needed help. I asked generally whether an item no longer on the shelf meant they didn't have anymore in stock, and he says very sarcastically and curtly, "well, I have no idea which item you're referring to." Simply asking, "which item are you referring to?" would have come across as less rude. On another recent visit with my husband, I had a return to make while my husband had something to purchase. The lady at the register told us that the return and purchase could be made under the same transaction. My husband didn't hear her initially, so he was holding onto the item he wanted to purchase. She exasperatedly gestured to him to give her the item he was holding. I'll still return to this Ace as it's near where I live and because I love gardening, but these kinds of encounters with store employees can really stay with you and leave a pervasive sour taste in your mouth. read more

I am a senior caregiver - she has dementia and struggles to remember more and more of her life each day. But one thing she always remembers is her friend Tony, who is one of the owners I've learned. Today she wanted to stop by and say hi to her friend but I was absolutely shocked of the treatment she received from the staff when she asked several of them (probably because she forgot she had asked before) if her friend Tony was in today. Condescending tones and even eye rolls. And when I mentioned to one that she has dementia she said SHE KNEW (!) And yet this is how you treat a sweet old women with cognitive decline?!? They have an amazing selection of home and garden but frankly the treatment of my patient will give me pause to ever give them one penny of my money in the future! read more

My favorite thing is all of the cool merchandise they sell. Beyond the normal hardware store offerings they have an excellent selection of grills, outdoor furniture, team merchandise(like UGA and Braves World Series), toys, gift items, cards and right now they have a great selection of Christmas merchandise including decor, ornaments, cards, wrapping supplies, live trees and wreaths. They also have a fabulous selection of plants and shrubs, especially in the spring/summer months. You can place your order online and pick it up at your convenience. Among the neatly lined rows of the customary serious hardware supplies, you'll also find an independent line of greeting cards, retro magnets, and neat toys. Whether you have a home improvement project that's wearing on your soul or just need a new set of Decatur license plates, this little store can make your dreams come true, instead of handily crushing them like they do at some other corporate giant hardware places. This is such a unique garden and hardware store with many extra surprises. When I moved in the area, my daughter told me I had to go there, if only just to enjoy walking around the garden area. My reason for giving it just 3 stars is because no one ever greets me or ask if I need assistance when I visit the garden. Many times the workers are caught up in what they're doing or having conversations with each other. When I do finally ask for help, I get a short answer and a look like I'm disturbing them. Sometimes with my limited gardening experience, I'd love to get their ideas/expertise. I waited to post this because it can always be an off day, but this has happened several times, even when business is slow. Intown Ace (they're affiliated with the Intown Ace in VaHi) is the best hardware store in town. Sometimes I think this should be my retirement job just so I can hang out here more. The people are awesome. They might not have the huge selection of Home Depot or Lowe's but they have a much bigger selection of certain items, such as bolts, nuts, screws and washers, something I find myself needing to match quite often. Just walking down their aisles is an experience. They carry so much stuff that I absolutely must have! I even picked up a bottle of Kentucky teriyaki sauce today (over near the grills). Too much stuff to list. Parking seems like it can be a zoo when busy, but not really when you know that parking is available in the adjacent lot too. read more

We've always enjoyed visiting this location. The variety of goods is amazing. My wife was there today, and at least five employees offered their assistance. One even remarked on the quilled cards she was getting, and showed her something to wonderfully supplement that purchase. This Intown Ace is amazing! The staff is so knowledgeable. They carry so many unique items too, which is great. I love the new kids area which a ton of Melissa and Doug projects that are reasonably priced. My kids love looking at all of the seeds and picking out the ones they want to plant in our garden. Oh, they are always popping popcorn and who does not like that. The staff in the plant area is really helpful too. They were able to help me find plants that grow fruit and which ones would look nice with our other fruiting buds. I have been to a lot of Aces, but this is by far the coolest one that I have gone to and will continue to go to. Now, if you know, Walmart (blah!) is trying to open down the street from here. If for one moment, they think that they will take away business from Ace, they are mistaken. I hope that no one buys any garden stuff from Walmart. We do not need a big box in this neighborhood and we support our locally run companies who do not underpay their employees. read more

This place is amazing. It's like a cool boutique that happens to sell hardware stuff. The employees are very engaging, racing to try and help you with anything you need. The employee culture here is awesome because it looks like everyone is working together and hustling. One of the guys at the paint counter has to be one of the nicest and happy people I've ever met! They also recognize me when I'm there. They have a ton of stuff that really caters to women and I find the best presents and gifts here. The level of customer service here is unparalleled... And frankly, you just don't find that a lot of places. They keep adding things to the property and it feels kind of like an experience, rather than just running to the store. There is also a kids section which is nice. My only recommendations would be: the plants out front around the rooster are a little messy. I am at odds with myself on this statement because I sit there and look at the plants and know they've been planted with love and they represent the plants they sell, but it's messy. I think they could take out a lot of it and go for a really manicured look with different plants and flowers. The kids area is a little awkward. The layout of it maybe could be reworked. As many presents as I am able to find there, there does seem to be something missing from the ladies section. I can't put my finger on it exactly. My gifts from there mostly consist of candles.... There needs to some more options. Maybe more signs with sayings. Maybe more cool things to hang on the wall. All in all a great place though. They think about the details... even down to the wrenches on the door handles when you walk in. Amazing! read more

This time the young men work in the register just 10 minutes ago short changed me $10 and I didn't realize it until I walked outside. Luckily the cash register area is in the camera. He was so busy making sure I didn't give him fake 20s and then he rips me off 10 bucks. I'll never come back. They suck. read more

I absolutely love this place. Their staff is extremely helpful. For instance, I'm a science teacher and I frequently need random supplies for crazy projects I have dreamed up. There's an older guy in the hardware supply section that literally helps me figure out exactly what I need. We often end up brainstorming together. They've also helped me find difficult to source parts. In the garden section, some of the most beautiful and hardy plants I have ever purchased have been from here. I love that they buy from local growers and I find that my plants do much better than I would otherwise experience from some of the big stores that simply sell cheap plants. Excellent customer service. Every time. There is always a friendly face ready and willing to help. Not just to point to where something is or tell you an aisle number but to actually show you where to find what you need. On today's visit, I was buying a couple of screws. Both the lady and the guy at the side desk directed me to the back wall where Alice would meet me to help me find the right screws. When I got back there, Alice was there ready to help me. At the register, the cost was $0.24. Crazy me only has $0.05 cash. I asked the cashier if I could just run to the car and see if I had anymore coins. She said don't worry about it. We have spare change. How sweet! I definitely prefer coming here over the larger competitors because of the great service (and closer proximity) even if I pay a little bit more. read more
