Baked Lobster Tempura
Andrew N.

If you haven't been to Handroll Social yet, give this neighborhood sushi place a try. Handroll Social offers a great balance of quality sushi, welcoming warm ambiance and exceptional customer service in the greater Houston area, right here in Katy. From start to finish, everything was amazing: * Incredible Presentation & Flavor: The fish quality is very fresh. The infused truffle oil Hamachi Crudo/sashimi topped with orange citrus, sliced Serrano peppers, microgreens, and an edible flower was light, refreshing, and beautifully plated. * Creative Small Plates: The Baked Lobster Tempura was loaded with toppings, diced scallions, drizzled eel and spicy mayo sauce, and sesame seeds was the perfect balance of warm crunch, savory richness, and abundance of flavor. * Atmosphere & Service: The vibe is modern, sleek, and welcoming. The chefs and staff really pay attention to detail, making the entire dining experience feel special. Whether you're stopping in for a quick lunch or opting for a full sit-down dining experience, Handroll Social delivers. Will definitely return soon to try the other available menu items!

I've was really excited to try this place. It's rare to find a handroll spot set up like this in the Katy Area. The decor is really nice, ambience is cool, the plate set up is great, but the food is kinda pricey for the quality in my opinion. I got the 3 Handroll set for $25 which came with -Spicy Yellow Tail roll -Salmon Roll -Spicy Tuna roll For $25 I would expect to be blown away but to be honest, there was nothing really special about these rolls. Even the seaweed wasn't crisp. Maybe I came on a bad day? Regardless I don't believe the quality is worth the price I usually go to handies douzo, where I get 3 rolls for $17 and their quality is always top tier. Each roll brings their own flare but here..... nothing about these rolls stuck out to me. At Handroll Social it's almost $10 more than what I usually pay at Handies The only item that stuck out to me was the scallop and foie gras nigiri. The nigiri was a flavor explosion! The foie gras melts on your tongue at first bite. But for $14 a piece? It's too pricey to be the only item to enjoy And when I orders two pieces, both pieces came out with different amount of Foie gras. First order had two pieces of foie gras on top of the scallop and the second order only had one... I don't see myself coming back here honestly. I would rather drive out to Houston for better quality sushi if I'm paying these prices.

This is a very different approach to serving sushi, but in its novelty is an absolute pleasure. Firstly, the ambience is quite interesting. The entire restaurant is one large sushi bar in a semicircle almost like a hibachi with the exception that the shafts rather than put on showmanship actually create works of art right in front of us. And the works of art are edible and just wonderfully edible. I had only three different plates, but all three of them of sashimi something called a credo and sushi were all beyond good. They were excellent. And may I add absolutely beautiful in their presentation. The service is phenomenal rather than give directions to the sushi Chef directly there's a server who circulates takes orders and do an absolutely masterful job of serving and from what I could ascertain preparing drinks. I had a Japanese old-fashioned, which had a Japanese whiskey and redemption rye, and that was equally excellent. My criticism, of course, and I would have to add one is that there was no luxardo Sheree, which is the signature for me of an old-fashioned, but I think that a minor distraction. The balance of the old-fashioned between the Japanese whiskey and the rye was phenomenal. I can't even begin to describe adequately. What a wonderful experience it is, and I would encourage anyone who enjoys sushi to a very least try it out. It's great value for the money. It's incredibly artistic and the food is just wonderful.

Salmon Crudo

The salmon crudo and hand rolls at Hand Roll Social were the highlight. Everything tasted fresh, and the toasted seaweed was done in exactly the right style -- crisp, warm, and lightly nutty without going bitter or chewy. The crudo was clean and bright, and the hand rolls were tight and well-balanced, with the seaweed holding everything together instead of overpowering it. We'll be back.

Tried Handroll Social and got the 5 piece set with spicy yellowtail, salmon, spicy scallop, avocado, and fatty tuna. I also added the foie gras, unagi handroll, and baked lobster tempura. The 5 piece set was filling, but most of the handrolls had the stuffing falling out the other end when biting into them. Out of the set, the spicy scallop and fatty tuna were the best. The foie gras had the same issue where it fell apart, but the flavor was very good. The baked lobster tempura was a letdown. It felt too saucy and baked too long, so the meat came out dry. The unagi handroll had too much rice and not enough eel. Overall, it felt like they relied heavily on sauces, and most of the fish/meat was diced instead of standing out on its own. Some good flavors, but the texture and build of the handrolls could be better.

Hamachi Crudo

The food was pretty decent for me and the flavor was on point, everything paired pretty well together. Each dish was beautifully presented. My friend and I tried the hamachi crudo, scallop crudo, and fatty tuna crisp. The service was great, everyone was friendly, attentive and made sure we were taken care of throughout our meal. I would definitely come back to try more dishes.

Beautiful restaurant and delicious sushi. First time here and definitely coming back. Staff was friendly and helpful in recommending rolls.

The food here is elegant and delicious! The atmosphere is both intimate and communal, with either separate tables or seats up at the sushi bar where they prepare the food (kind of like a hibachi style eatery). You can have a conversation or watch the chefs at work. They place each roll in front of you as soon as it's made, so it paces your dining experience for you, if you'd like. We loved every item we selected! If we had room left, we could have ordered dessert. But that will have to wait until next time!

I want to gate-keep this place so badly, but it just wouldn't be fair for everyone else in the area. We stumbled across this spot and decided to check it out for dinner. I'll start by saying the drinks are phenomenal. Every single drink we ordered was great! Like, cocktail bar high quality. Service was great too. We had our baby with us and all the waiters would smile and play with her in between serving rolls. The food was amazing. We will 100% be back.

Great vibes!! The atmosphere, service, and drinks were top tier! I'm still dreaming of the fatty tuna crudo! Perfect mix of spice, crunch, and citrus on top of a melt in your mouth tuna bite. I highly recommend! I definitely would come again, 10/10!

Wow, one of the creamiest hand rolls I've ever had! There's something about the handle that made us so creamy part of having avocado inside. The Crudo here had an interesting take since I had a more solid sauce/paste to it. Overall, I highly recommend and would come back.

So happy they finally opened a sushi handroll in Katy!! Now I do not have to drive 45min+ to satisfy my craving. The biggest surprise was the yellow tail roll. Usually yellow tail is just a filler choice for me, something I will eat if it's part of a bundle. This was the first time actually enjoying it enough that I would order it al la carte. The fish tastes incredibly fresh, and the staff are wonderful. My only gripe is that some of the rolls could have a much better rice-to-fish ratio.

Wow how lucky are we to finally get a hand roll place in Katy. The whole experience was a vibe. Thank you to the friendly staff for a delicious meal and drinks! Can't wait to come back for their social hour!!

He asked if we had dined there before, to which we responded that we hadn't. He then told us to pick where we wanted to sit, and he would follow. My kiddo picked out our spot, and Holloway handed me my menu and then opened up my husband's menu and gave us an explanation of the menu. He then gave us a few suggestions for our meal as first-timers. He informed us that we could get the sauces at a counter in the back, and we were free to bring all of them to our table to try. He then let us know if we needed anything to let him know. My husband and I decided to go with Holloway's suggestion of the Family Platter. The sides we chose were Portuguese rice, red-skin mashed potatoes, and garlic bread. My husband also got an additional side of Peri Honey Sweet Potatoes. For our beverages, we got a pineapple lemonade and Rubro Peach Iced Tea. My husband ordered through the app, and our drinks got there first, and then our food was brought to us within 10ish minutes. At that point, my husband had already brought all the sauces available to our table, and we started eating. There are 8 sauces available (I should note we ordered our chicken plain-ish), so we could figure out which sauce we liked for the future. Like I mentioned, we got the chicken plain-ish for our first time. I tried it as is and it was great on its own. The meat on the inside was moist, I personally wouldn't mind eating it plain-ish. My kiddo who is picky loved his portion and was asking for seconds. So that to me was a good sign. The skewers were just as good, obviously with the skewers being dark meat, they were more moist and tender pieces of chicken. 9/10 Garlic bread was excellent; it was crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. The flavor wasn't overwhelming nor was the bread too oily or greasy. 9/10 Red-skin mashed potatoes were also a great side. The potato skin also added some nice texture. 8/10 The Portuguese rice was good, but it reminded me of Mexican rice at a Tex-Mex restaurant. It tasted like it was a tomato paste base, which isn't my favorite. 6/10. The Peri Honey Sweet Potato was savory, salty, and sweet. At first glance, I noticed a red powder sprinkled on the top, and the sweet potatoes were cut into small cubes. Of course, the seeds were sprinkled on top with the feta cheese. It had a nice texture/ crunch from the pumpkin and sesame seeds. The feta was very flavorful; it was soft and had a more acidic taste than store-bought feta. The red powder on the top added a salty and subtle spice flavor. 8/10. Peach tea was very good; the peach flavor was strong and lingered at the end. 9/10. Pineapple lemonade was great, not too sweet, very pineapple-forward taste. 9/10. Naughty Nata was like a fusion between churro and egg tart. I got the smell of cinnamon at first, and it reminded me of a churro. The crust was very flaky and buttery. The custard inside was nice. 10/10. Nando's was a very nice restaurant to dine at; it was definitely a different experience from most restaurants as you're able to choose your seating, and you are able to get your plates and sauces and whatever else you need on your own without needing to wait for your server. The vibe is very much chill and laid back. I also noticed that everyone on the shift for last night was working as a team. There was Holloway and two other people working the front ( a young lady and an older gentleman). The young lady brought us our drinks, and then the older gentleman brought us our food as Holloway was busy with other customers outside. I loved how the menus were unique, and the artists are credited. I also liked the decoration and how there were so many bright and vibrant colors on the chairs and just all around. I will be back in the future to try more of what Nando's has to offer. Sauce reviews: -favorite out of them all Medium Peri Peri with Garlic: good, mild heat, and tangy Peri peri Medium wild herb: vinegar-forward good flavor Lemon herb peri peri mild: can taste lemon but flavor doesn't linger. Saka medium: sweet comparable to BBQ sauce reminded me of a more subtle Rudy's sissy sauce Peri peri medium: lots of vinegar, not too strong spice kinda like Cholula Peri peri hot: more vinegar-based, tolerable spice, reminds me of salsa roja taqueria Peri peri extra hot: tolerable spice just a notch up from hot, lemony and herby aftertaste Extra extra hot peri: good spicy, maybe different chilies? Most bottles had little excerpts on the back, and some even said what chilies were used to make the sauce. Also I noticed all the sauces were acidic either from lemon or vinegar. Which pairs well with the chicken.

Great place. Great food quality and flavor on baked chicken peri / peri style…read more Peri-peri chicken is chicken marinated or coated in a spicy, tangy chili sauce, then usually grilled or roasted. These folks have multiple flavor profile and sides. Very clean attentive staff. Will be back!

We were in Fulshear and wanted to try something different that we don't have near us, so we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant itself is beautiful on the outside with an inside that has a modern, open design. You come in and seat yourself, and while there were several tables available, the restaurant definitely wasn't empty. There were people dining in the back room and out on the porch. It was a gorgeous day, but we opted for the AC. Service wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't especially attentive. It took a while for someone to come by with menus, and throughout the meal things just seemed to move slowly despite the restaurant not appearing understaffed. I don't mind a relaxed pace, but I also don't want to spend my entire afternoon sitting indoors at some random restaurant waiting around. We started with chips and queso. The chips were decent, but the queso was extremely thin and soupy--more like cheese soup than queso--thus definitely not worth the $10 price tag. Unless you love soupy queso. Then maybe it's definitely worth the $10 to you. For lunch, my brother and mom ordered The Local Burger with Fries and added avocado, my friend ordered the Beef Tenderloin Steak Wrap with Chips, and I tried the Spicy Buffalo Pizza because honestly, every menu starts looking the same after a while, and I wanted something different. Unfortunately, there were several issues with our order. Everyone's food arrived but my brother's because our server somehow assumed mom and he were sharing one burger since they ordered the same thing. They also forgot the avocado add-on for both burgers. Mom gave my brother her basket, and they shared the burger until his came, which was about 10 to 15 minutes later. Mom liked the fries because they came out hot and weren't overly salted, but neither she nor my brother really raved about the burgers. I think by then they forgot they asked for avocado, and we weren't charged for it, but that's kind of annoying to ask for something and nothing is said...they just quietly make sure not to charge you for it. The Spicy Buffalo Pizza was probably the biggest disappointment for me. I expected a more traditional buffalo chicken pizza, but instead it was kind of a layered, heavily drizzled mess that didn't really work together. The crust also appeared to be some sort of cornmeal-style crust that wasn't my favorite and didn't hold up well under the weight of the toppings. It was the kind of slice you knew would end up on you rather than in you, so I was really careful to make sure it hit the pizza board and not me. I ended up boxing most of it for my housemate. Mark wanted dessert, and they have something called "The Spot Ice Cream Sandwich," which is a brownie or assorted cookie with vanilla ice cream and toppings. Mom asked whether he could simply order the brownie by itself, and our server Victor said he would ask, but we never actually got an answer. One thing that really annoys me at restaurants is charging $4 for fountain drinks and then not keeping them refilled. Victor did eventually ask about refills, but by then the meal was basically over. Overall, this place wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. The atmosphere and design are probably the strongest part of the experience. I wouldn't necessarily avoid it, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to come back. What made lunch even funnier is that next door at Cross Creek Ranch, there's a hanging sign advertising an "observation deck." We had debated going before lunch but decided to eat first and then check it out afterward. Much like the restaurant itself, the concept sounded far more impressive than the actual experience. There really wasn't much to observe. I just found it amusing that both experiences ended up being equally mediocre.

She took our drink orders, food orders and then everything seemed to fall apart. She returned several times, but mentioned that she was tied up handling several large drink orders and that was the last we saw of her. The food was delivered by other servers. As you can see, the fried catfish fillets were burnt on the outside, but the fish was undercooked inside and had raw (uncooked) portions inside. Not a pleasant surprise. We later learned that Lexus had left for the day and we were left on our own, so to speak. No drink refills for the nearly three hours we were there. Finally, we had to get up and find someone to help us and get our checks. When I was able to pay I requested a receipt, which I never received. Lastly, when we were leaving, someone was mopping the walkway and left puddles of water in the walk, which posed a slip hazard for our group of elderly individuals. When we told a server about the water in the walkway, she told us that she knew it was wet, because she just mopped it. Not an answer you want to hear. All in all, a very unimpressive experience.
